I have seen several people on this board talking about there age but when you go to their profile it does not agree with their info. Why would people do that ? Just be honest. We wont tell.

I've mentioned my age here, so I already know i'm one of the people you're talking about.
And I really am the age that I say in the posts (not the profile) - I didn't even realize I put 1980 when I signed up.. just now realized that after reading this and checking mine. And  I don't log i here much either, so of course I wouldn't fiddle with my profile to update any status.

But really, people lie about their age because they know you are going to made judgements based on how old they are. Some message boards / chat communities don't have the option to hide age in the profile, therefore u will see people changing their birth year, to show that they're 99 years old, example, and we all know they're not really 99 (I see that alot on myspace). Or on facebook, many people will include their birth month/day but not the year. Same reason.

When signing up with websites I do not use my correct month of birth or if the choice is only in years, I offset my age by a year or two.  This is to prevent too much of my personal information being stored on insecure sites.
Most web sites are much less secure than banks, and even banks have a problem keeping your information safe.

I know that many people lie about their age on dating websites but that's a diffrent issue.

When you realize that the a website already has your email, your name and often your birth date they have half the information that is needed to build your identity and misuse your information. Not that it is there intention, but many websites fail to fully secure their customer data and often leak data like a sieve.

Personally I think it is good that people use their real age, in years but I advise them not to use their real day and month of birth. On the other hand maybe websites should stop asking for your full birth date. They relay don't need to know that.

If you want to cut and paste from your word processor do not do it directly.
First paste it into notepad or other basic ascii editor so that the formatting codes are removed, then cut again. This will give you clean posts.
