I just returned from Uruguay. Spent a couple of days in Punta Del Este. I did see a few men in speedos. Many women in small rio cut type bottoms. I wore a Tulio with a rio style back and string sides.  On the last day there I wore a suit that I had purchased in Mexico, it was smaller than the Tulio. I had no comments from anyone. It did seem that the hotel pools were more accepting of minimal swimwear as we stayed at the Conrad where most of the women were wearing thongs  and the men including my self were wearing speedos or less.

Keep in mind that this is just now the beginning of the summer season for that region. School has not let out as of yet and the tourists have really not started coming into town . There is supposed to be a topless beach  around beach locations 21-23 on the main street.  But we did not go there as time did not permit.

I am sure that there is enough beach between the Atlantic and the Rio De Plata that one could wear what ever type of suit.  In Montevideo, we went to the beaches along the Rambla. Mostly young men in board shorts, but again they did not say any thing. We went to a beach on the Rio between MVD and PDE near Piraopollis and laid out for about two hours. Not one person came by. I could have been wearing anything and it would not have mattered.

Returned from Uruguay a few weeks ago. There is a nude beach between Montevideo and Punta Del Este. It is about 3-4 Km. before the airport.  It is an official nude beach with signs  warning of "Playa Naturista" . I saw mostly couples and a few singles, both female and male. I wore a thong at first and took it off to get the all over tan. We were there for about 4 hours. It is a great beach, probably one of the best I have ever been too. Blue water, deep white sand and no gwakers.

I highly recommend this for anyone in Uruguay that is looking for a nice uncrowed beach.  Although, it is now fall and I will have to wait until next "summer" before returning.
