I was just in Sydney for a week & stripped down to a thong on Coogee Beach one morning, South Maroubra and the bay to the north of Coogee - best time thonging there!

Hey all. I'm heading to Byron Bay early next year on holiday. Does anyone have any experiences thonging at the beaches there? I've never been there before so any recommendations of beaches or other spots to go thonging would be great. Thanks!

Hi gstringman01 If you go back through this thread, I have written quite a bit about my experiences at Byron Bay. I would be surprised if anything has changed too much. Maybe there's even more females in thongs, as it's a huge trend in Australia over the past few years. Men not so much, but definitely more speedo-style swimwear. I would still have no hesitation wearing a thong on any Byron Bay beach. Enjoy your time there - the people watching is second to none.

Planning a trip December2024/January2025 to Australia. Looking to visit Sydney, Brisbane and will be spending a longer time up near Hervey Bay and Fraser Island. Any suggestions for nude (preferred) and/or thong/gstring beaches that I can visit. All suggestions welcomed. I Will probably have a rental car but not a 4x4 so won’t be able to go off-road or too far on dirt roads nor drive along the beach to get to a secluded spot. Planning to take a selection of speedo, rio, thongs and gstrings to wear along the way depending on the vibe of the hotels i stay at or beaches I go to. Would be great to meet some of you Aussie thongers along the way too.

Hey everyone. Are there any Adelaide/S.A thongers here? I'll be thonging for the next 3 days along the beaches south of Adelaide, including Port Noarlunga, Southport, Seaford and Maslin Beach area.
I'm just wondering if there's anyone else interested in catching some sun? Thanks :)

Just got back from a beach holiday in South Australia (not the first I've had there). I thonged at Glenelg Beach for an afternoon. I was the only male in a thong. Got the usual curious looks and a couple of "Whoah!" comments and a few laughs from the blokes drinking together at the Moseley Beach Club (bar on the beach). Nothing out of the ordinary. It was a nice sunny day but not super warm and it wasn't too busy on the beach.

I also spent an afternoon snorkeling (at the reef) and thonging at Southport Beach in Port Noarlunga (south of the jetty), all in a new Skinz bulge wear thong I bought recently. Lovely spot, not many people around and beautiful white sand for days! Very relaxing. Again, the usual looks from passers-by out walking, no negative comments. Quite a few looks from ladies out walking. I later spent one afternoon and one full day at Maslin Beach (both the clothed and clothing optional stretches). Both great experiences. I walked to and from my car in the carpark in just my Skinz thong without any issues at all. I did get one lady very shocked to see me in a thong on the clothed section of Maslin. I was in a micro pouch thong at the time (not my usual beach wear!), but I was a good 40 meters away from her and her partner. She was smiling and there was clearly some discussion going on between them after. After my swim I walked back up the beach, before collecting my gear and heading to the clothing optional end of Maslin, walking there just wearing my micro 'stuffit' pouch thong. Overall, a great holiday. No male thongers sighted, a few females in thongs tanning, which seems to be becoming more and more popular at beaches I've visited in recent years. Great to see.

Nice to hear gstringman01. I try to get to Maslin Beach once or twice every summer with the family but it's on the complete opposite side of town to me so a decent 90 minute drive or so for me. Didn't manage to get there in the recent summer due to time and the weird unseasonal weather we had. Interesting to hear that the lady was shocked. You're a brave guy to thong at Glenelg! Well done!

What's everyone's thoughts on the best thonging place in the Australia? Are there any dress up events like Fantasy Fest in the US? Trying to think of my next holiday with the wife after a decent thonging experience on Virgin Voyages, but they've left the country now. Or am I best just to go back to Thailand?

Hi chickenleg. Thanks for the reply and the encouragement, much appreciated! I've actually thonged at Glenelg Beach a number of times over the years. There was one summer a few years back when I thonged on Glenelg Beach for two full days in a row (was staying right on the beach, only a minutes walk away) and met an older guy thonging there too, had a great chat and discussion about men wearing thongs while we were both there in thongs on the beach. Can't remember his name, but he was very friendly and a regular, from what he was saying.

I do enjoy Maslin Beach for both thonging and tanning, there's plenty of space, but it can be a little quiet at times and it's a fair way from anywhere. One of the days there I walked to and from the carpark on the south-end of the beach, in just my Skinz stuffit pouch thong, down the stairs. Lots of camera all over that carpark. It didn't dissuade me.

Regarding the best places to go thonging in Australia, I was recently on holidays in Byron Bay. It was hands-down the best thonging experience and location I've ever experienced! I will be posting a detailed write-up in the 'Personal Experiences' thread when I have time. I have perfect weather, gorgeous beaches amazing company on the sand and and all-around awesome, relaxed vibe! I even got some nice comments from a few people. I would highly recommend Byron Bay for male thonging, the best spots were The Wreck Beach, Byron Beach, Main Beach and South Belongil Beach.

I have plans for a thonging holiday to The Gold Coast. Still doing research, but Burleigh Heads is looking really good. If anyone has any experiences travelling and thonging in that area, please let me know.

Wow, not that i've ever been, but i would have never thought Byron Bay would be the top thonging destination in the country. Looking forward to the write-up gstringman01!

Hey tremendimouse, All Australian beaches are thong friendly in my experience. I regular beaches all over QLD as I travel for work and now only ever thong. I also thong at hotel pools and never get a negative reception. Nude is a little more tricky- if you are after a tan and not showing off- find a quiet corner and be respectful and you will probably be fine, I have done this several times, but formal nude beaches where others will be also are rare and not very legal in QLD

Well I had a nice little 3 day trip to the Gold Coast last week. I spent most of my time at Burleigh at Miami beaches, but also spent a day at Main Beach and Surfers Paradise, with a drive up to The Spit as well. Everywhere I went was great. Beautiful beaches and sunshine. I wore only my N2N Maverick thongs and my Grand Axis thong. The northern end of Burleigh was fantastic on Monday. There were no kids around (school holidays haven't started yet). Quite a few ladies in thongs and g-strings. One other guy tanning in a thong, and a couple of guys in very small Speedos. I swam between the flags with everyone else with no problems at all. Everywhere I went for the three days I didn't encounter any nasty comments, although I did catch a few people looking. Headed up to the Sunny Coast over the weekend and next week.

CKWonder with the run of very hot weather this summer, you can be sure a few of us will come out of the woodwork. I for one have not been on here for quite some time. I haven't had my annual holiday over Christmas this year, but have still managed some beach time, and getting out in my own backyard pool and around my yard. I also have been out on my paddle board thonging quite a bit. The reflection off the water definitely speeds up the tanning effect. It's been up to 45degC (115 F) plus, so we have had plenty of sunshine. Needless to say I have a very good thong tan line. Just commenting on a few of the above - I have been to many Northern NSW and Southern Queensland beaches, and always thonged at them while tanning, swimming, surfing, walking the beach and to & from the car park. I have never had any issues greater than a comment or two and some staring. Quite the norm for anywhere really. Currently it is a huge trend for young females to wear thong/G-string bikinis. They are everywhere, including walking around the beachfront areas. Men are gradually wearing briefs far more often, most notably Budgy Smugglers (these guys have created their own cult). Thongs are still uncommon on men. I still do wear thongs as much as possible whenever and wherever I feel it's not an issue. I still swim my laps each morning in Budgy Smugglers, but occasionally do it in a thong when visiting quieter pools, usually outside my area. I wear thongs around all of my friends and most family. Surfing is about 50/50, depending on the crowd and location. With age comes the wisdom that life is too short to miss out on what makes you happy. It really doesn't affect or concern anyone else. So while Australia isn't Rio, it's certainly no problem. Byron Bay would be one of the best places, probably followed by the Gold Coast. As always, act normally and respectfully, and enjoy your time in the sun!

Some feedback on my trip to Australia: I have been in Australia for about 6 weeks now and have been travelling around from Airlie Beach all the way down to Sydney. The largest suit I have worn was a JS rio suit, but for the most part I have worn Skinzwear Sunseeker Rio or Skinz M1R2 adjustable gstrings. I’ve been able to wear gstring on some great beaches including ones at Noosa, Peregian beach, Hervey Bay, Lady Bay, and Dee Why. Rest of time I’ve been at a house with a pool and almost exclusively worn rio or g there. Weather has been mixed with lots of rain and cloudy days mixed with days of half sun, so not really had the opportunity to explore more. Also with driving, travel and family visiting taking up a lot of time some good beach days have been missed. Did a barrier reef snorkeling day trip on a catamaran from Airlie and wore a gstring to tan and swim in on that trip. It was the smallest suit on the boat that day. I’ve had no comments from anyone except for another guy wearing a thong who wanted to know what brand suit I was wearing. It’s been a very relaxed holiday but, unfortunately, it will soon be over. I will be back again though. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

Great to hear tremendimouse! Unfortunately many places north of here (Mid-east coast area around Sydney) got plenty of wet weather recently. We have a wet/cool spell for the next few days, but back to summer by the weekend! And for all the other Aussies around my area, which is Newcastle (so anything from Forster down to the Central Coast) I now have a job that allows some mid-week beach time, and a few free weekends. If anyone wants company, or just to know there will be another thonger at the same location as you, let me know! I will be checking this site regularly again, so let's do it :)

I returned early Feb. from a two week trip to Australia. Visited Sydney then Byron Bay. Many ladies wearing thongs on Manly Beach, but only saw one other man . He was with a lady in a thong. Main Beach in Byron Bay was similar. Many women of all ages, but only three other men the week I was there. I noticed more men wearing Speedo type suits than on my previous trip last year. Glad to report no hassels, and the atmosphere was very accepting, whatever you wanted to wear. Did see about 7-8 women topless in Byron, none in Manly.

Saturday and Sunday are looking like high 20's - low 30's and fine all day. I have a free day on Sunday :) Looks like a great beach day, or even a good time to launch the paddle board. Do we 'crowd' a certain spot..? Could do anywhere from North of Port Stephens to the Central Coast.

Coincidentally I was just at Maslin Beach this past weekend and stayed in the area for the weekend. Had been a long couple of years since visiting due to living a decent drive away. As my bad luck would have it, we had a warm and blistering hot week and then the weather pretty much turned when we got there so the plan to be at the beach all weekend went out the door. On the plus side though, after visiting on and off for the past 2 decades or so, I finally witnessed a couple having some "fun" action which was nice. I get that the hardcore naturists hate that kind of activity, but hey, it made me smile!
