Tuesday, I looked out the window to see what seemed like a perfect beach day. Were were leaving later in the day, but a quick bike ride might have been fun.  I then checked the weather apps on my phone and saw the forecast wind directions.   All from primarily the north, from over the sound. I said not only no, but HELL NO!  You cant even out run the flies riding your bike.   They are the only thing that will drive me off the beach.  And that includes severe thunderstorm warnings and imminent tropical storms (think ANA a few years ago)!

I got out there after ten o'clock this morning and yes the flies were pretty bad. Fortunately the wind changed around to the s/w around noon and the flies retreated making for a fantastic afternoon.

It was nice at Bird Island yesterday. Saw but did not talk to Painter, spoke to CK& spouse and chatted with Bird Island Guy.  As a birthday present to my wife, I did not wear my HIS briefs, she prefers me in boxer type swim shorts.  The loose leg openings do gave one advantage though.

Can anyone describe the situation here for me? I haven't been in a few years and have a chance to return this Spring. During the week, not a crowded holiday or anything. I used to park on a side street off Sunst Beach, fairly close to Bird Island. Walk with some minimal cover shorts over a thong to the beach and walk down to Bird Island. When I got near the mail box, the shorts came off. Then after sizing up the few people on Bird Island, the thong would come off and I would go for a swim.

I was out sunning today. (February ?)  I ran into a friend had brought out his boat , so we sat and chatted for awhile.  There was a guy up the inlet in a thong.  Had to cover when a couple of boats settled nearby.    On the beach side only my wife and I were settled down for the afternoon.  Amazing for February.

I’m counting the days to get out for the first time for the year.  I hope in the next two weeks I’ll be able to get out to the lake for a few hours in the sun and my thong. But the first week of April I’m down at Bird Island for several days I hope in the sun.!
I’m not down at Bird Island every weekend or month but each time I went last year it was like an oasis as soon as you get out on the beach. I know for me the vibe was always open and I walked up and down the beach the whole time in my thong or G.  I’m planning on the same this year.

tbck, my experience has been similar to yours, though I was warned by a local not to leave my swimsuit on the beach lest I be caught naked in the water and unable to return to shore. There are often a good number of runners, walkers, and bikers of all types. You'll be fine in any kind of swimwear but nude, while indulged by a certain number of those in the know, is not technically allowed. Also check the wind before you go because on some days the flies are atrocious. If it's blowing off the dunes (north-northeast) you're probably going to want to skip.

I agree with Mr Falcon , if the wind from the north (sound side) plan on doing something else that day. Rain, lightning, high winds, even impending tropical storms can get me off that beach. Those flies, I’m outta there

I was out there the last two afternoons. Sunny 70F or just above.   Very nice for the first time out in the sun this year.  Today was socked in fog until about 1:30.  It was quite surreal as I got there about 1:20.   I set up at my normal place and also took a walk down to the rock jetty.  I was the only one thonging today. Wore my raspberry Muscleskins Poser thong.   A grand day, in a thong...
Has anyone seen a guy peering over the dunes at the very end of the beach within 150 yards of the jetty?  Saw a guy today in a white ball cap peering over a dune as I, or anyone else, was approaching.   Being me, I made sure to give a big wave.  As I walked on I saw he was just standing back there not doing much else wearing shorts and shirt.   I just thought it was a little strange.

Wasn't me.  I was only out Sunday, and I was in my favorite new spot when my wife isn't with me.  I was in a HIS bikini on top of a dune on the far west part of the island.  It is protected from winds, and has stunning views.   I was interacting with people all afternoon, and not one comment about my suit.  When people did climb the dune, and looked around they did see the attraction, and commented about that.  At one point an Horry County Fire/Rescue boat came snooping along the shore and got about as close to my location as they could, which seemed unusual.  So I just stood up in my skimpy suit and walked around a bit, (making sure they could see the full coverage back) and the took off a minute or two later.   My guess is that they got a complaint and came to investigate.   Yes I am egocentric and it is all about me :)  My only problem was that I'm still not used to the time change and stayed out there too long and pissed off my wife.

Just returned from two fantastic days on the "island". Great weather, no flies, no patrols, and fairly light foot traffic. A few others were there in thongs or less enjoying the beach. I wore my g-string when walking and while fishing. The few people I encountered seemed to care less as to my skimpy attire and more concerned with what species of fish I was hoping to catch. Hope to get back in a couple of weeks.

So today was a good day and my first time fully just wearing my thong. I went to BI a few weeks back but only wore my thong while hiding in the dunes. Well today I decided I would only pack my thong and speedo (no board shorts). I was a bit nervous just wearing my speedo but after awhile I noticed no one cared. So about mid day through I just took off my speedo and only wore my thong while playing with my spouse and our dog. It was a lot of fun and very liberating,  ant wait to return again!

There is a new sign (went up 5/24/18 as best as I can tell) at the 40th cross over that gives the distances to various points of interest on Bird Island. I tried to upload a picture to my profile, but I am not succeeding.   The distance to the reserve is listed as .4 miles and the mailbox as 1.4 miles.  My usual haunt is about 1.55 miles.

I was out there later Wednesday afternoon and walked out on the 40th street path and saw the new sign too. I thought it was interesting to post the sign but so many people ask about what is down there.  I hobbled about.5 miles before I set up for a few hours of partly cloudy sun.  I didn’t do my normal walk as my ankle is injured.  I will try to do the same today.

Tuesday was again, near perfect.   Rode out to BI as the tide was coming in and stayed until it had fell enough to ride out.   It definitely reduces the amount of beach so the few walkers who still make it down are much closer to you as they pass, but it was all good.  Unfortunately there were no other thongers.  A couple of guys went nude, but would cover up with foot traffic.   I don’t understand why more thongers don’t take advantage of this little piece of paradise.

Nice day today out on Bird Island.  I think I saw Painter out there today. I also saw one other guy in a G.  There was one other couple out past the mailbox.  I thought they were textile until late in the afternoon when I noticed he dropped his bored shorts and went for a swim.  Yea, now I could relax a bit. After a an hour or so, she must have felt more comfortable because they started a nude photo shoot. Very soon after that they got dressed and left.  The morning did have lots of walkers.

today was a nice day at BI.I think that was MartyLouie out there, plus another couple witb on and off nude for the guy and a black thong and nice figure for the lady.
Then there was another couple who set up 3 small beach tents/ canopies. He was abit braver than I to walk the beach naked with nothing to cover up anywhere near him. Although,  at some point I happened to look over and he was getting your very nice knob job from his woman. LOL lucky guy!
so today was a so today was a fairly decent day for a good bit of nudity. I will probably make another trip up there in the coming weeks.
the only thing it wasn't getting on my nerves was the people taking their good old-time Meandering down the beach instead of vacating the area so we can walk back down to the water. I also I also ended up moving down closer to the mailbox because I really wasn't comfortable being naked near the people further down on my right

Southern charm, yes my wife and I were there under the white canopy. You must have been the guy in black. I know what you mean about the couple at the end. Always both dressed.  Though today she may have sunned a bit  topless  I  too saw the folks under three tents get a little frisky.  I talked with them and today was their first visit. The lady in the black g definitely is quite fit. I have seen them out there over the last couple of years.  It was a beautiful day and I’m sorry I had to leave so early. I may be out next weekend

yes. I was stared at by the Mrs. Of the couple to my right. Maybe she was teying to confirm i had a thong on, or wasnt cool with it. I dont know. I always prefer nude but dont wanna stir up anyone else. What ever happened to BirdIslandGuy? He kinda dropped outta sight.
But yeah, naked and alittle play is always fun at the beach with an audiance without being caught.

SouthernCharm,  Bird Island Guy  has been busy dealing with some family issues, but he will be out more as the summer progresses.   A little naked play can be fun, but too much, or in front of the wrong audience can ruin things for everybody!

That was me out there yesterday (Tuesday) in a g-string. First trip to the Bird since moving back to the area. Last time out there must have been about 7 years ago before I moved out.

Got there around 9:30am and stayed in the g-string until about 2pm, then after the foot traffic died I spent about 30 minutes nude in the water and walking to the mailbox to leave a message for the Kindred Spirit before leaving for the day. Beach patrol drove by around 1pm in the white pick-up, think it was Sunset Beach rescue not the police, they didn't care about what I was wearing whoever it was. Nice place, but the finer sand is tougher to wash off the body than the more course sand in Florida.

I was out on B.I. for the day and couldn't believe no one else was there enjoying a fantastic day for sunning and thonging. Most of the day was spent in my g-string  (or less) while walking the beach and fishing. Foot traffic was fairly light and most of the walkers seemed to care less about what I had on. The ATV beach patrol made 3 trips down the beach in the afternoon but didn't stop. Might have to try it again tomorrow, weather permitting.

I’ve been out there on all major holidays and weekends and days. If you’re out there earlier in the day (up to 11:00)  you can always find a spot within 5 to 6 blocks of the last crossover walking towards bird Island.   I’ve never let the holidays determined from getting out there if I’m in the area. The next time I’ll be out there will be starting the week of July 22.

Spent day out at BI today, parking was definitely limited and felt fortunate to grab a spot 4-5 blocks down from last crossover.  Arrived around 11 am, stayed until 3pm.  High tide was around 12, foot traffic after 1 pm decipated significantly.  Windy and hot, but pleasant.  Only one other thonger out, who was completely inspiring.  He took a long walk to the jetty without worrying about those around him.  Inspired me to do the same!  Great to have other confident thongers out there!

Re:Bird Island, NC (near Sunset Beach)

Date Posted:07/04/2018 11:44:36Copy HTML

When at the beach or lake I go to be part of the norm. I just happen to be in a thong or G.  Bird Island is special though as you have to work a little bit to get there and when you do there is wide open beach for almost 2 miles.  Sure there are people walking up and down the beach the whole way but if you are sitting out there you can set up and have nobody else for a 1/4 mile or more.   So taking a long walk up and down the beach is just blending in with everyone else while getting even sun on both sides of your body.  Walking up and down the beach in my thong or super small G  is what feels so great and invigorating.  I don’t feel like I am more confident to do it, rather I’m doing what others are doing and doing so With confidence.
If anyone sees me on one of my walks stop me and would be happy to chat. I usually set up about 1/2 -3/4 mile from the Sunset Beach side and do my meandering walk down to jetty.

Re:Bird Island, NC (near Sunset Beach)

Date Posted:07/04/2018 07:11:15Copy HTML

Yeah, that was me taking the long walk in my thong yesterday. Most of the other walkers & bikers I encountered showed no reaction and waved back when I waved. When I passed close enough to passers-by they'd return my "hello". I did notice however some people deviated their path so the wouldn't have to pass near me? I'd say that's their problem.
The young female beach patrol gave me a big smile and a wave when she passed my spot when laid out on the beach, so no problem with the beach patrol.
That remote end of Bird Island is like my favorite type of beach. Quiet, no crowds, nice sand & water. I've been thonging for a long time, but won't always wear one because of the vibe of the beach. It's not because I necessarily feel uncomfortable, but that the crowd around me would feel uncomfortable, and I can respect that. Also, if wearing my thong with the wrong crowd around, there could be the negative reinforcement effect, where one person exclaims to their friend "people in thongs are disgusting" (their own hangups) to which the other will respond "yeah, you're right" to support their friend and reinforce the negativity and aversion to thong wearing.
The more us thongers can act like normal people on the beach, the better it will be for everyone.
