Welcome to the Sun Coast! I typically visit Caspersen once or twice during the weekdays and set up usually about 100 yards south of the entrance ramps. Feel free to say hello if you pass by. Even if it looks like I'm sleeping I'm usually awake!

FYI, wearing a thong at Lido beach is technically not legal because of a city ordinance; however, it seemingly isn't enforced very well. So proceed with caution there.

I know the city beaches are much more strict than the county ones. We try to be discreet wherever we are. Weekends are our getaway days. Caspersen and DeSoto are just too far a drive after work on the weekdays, which is when we'll hit Lido or Siesta.

We were out for a little while Sunday between the rain cells that have been passing through. We arrived about 3:30 and left around 6:00, the Gulf was rough and a stiff onshore breeze. The water temp is hovering right around 90 degrees, cant wait for another calm day to snorkel off the beach.  We saw another couple out who are regulars, they also had a beach day planned and went out rain or not, several single males and a young textile couple that were out for an hour or so. It was National Naked Day on Sunday but it was only being observed by a few of us:) I think the weather scared most people away.

We had a beach day scheduled for today (Thurs) and against better judgment, weather wise, we went out:) Expecting to be the only people on the beach we were surprised to find 5-6 single males and a few textile couples. Arrived just after noon and stayed till 3:00, all but a few people left by 1:30. The Gulf was calm and a very light breeze out of the south. We had to set up by the waters edge to avoid the bugs, because of the light breeze. Water temp is way down from it's recent peak over 90 and now at 85. We didn't see the sun at all, but the good news is that we only got a few drops of rain on the way home. Tide was going out and it was a good toothing day, Candy found a bunch of sharks teeth and some interesting shells, and it wasn't too hot walking. We have been out in worse weather and still find it so relaxing on the beach:)

What a gorgeous day yesterday! We never expected to see so many other people out on a Monday and the weather was beautiful, The Gulf had a light chop and the wind was SSW about 10-12 mph, water temp is still 85-86 degrees. We arrived about 12:15 and by 1:30 all of the clouds had gone and it was a beautiful sunny day. Five other couples were out and 4-5 single males, we met a cute young couple who are new to the beach and we were able to answer some of their questions about the beach. We had such a great day, we stayed late and left about 7:00, there were 2 couples that were still on the beach when we left. Some textile walkers came down late in the afternoon and with so many other people out we didn't feel the need to return to our chairs when we saw them coming. Candy was a little worried that our minimal wear might have offended one textile couple and then they turned around and walked back by again :) It made her feel better that they obviously had no issues and wonder if we will see them out in thongs someday. We love the beach and can't wait for our next day out:)

What a beautiful day yesterday (Sat), nice breeze out of the north, sunny no clouds, the only downside is that something is spawning again, looks like the shellfish from last year. They dry out on you and feel like sand, very happy that we now bring out a sunshower and set it up. We arrived late and once a young couple with a child that were set up near us left, we had the beach to ourselves. Stayed out till sunset, what a wonderful beach day!

I made it out for just a couple hours today, starting at noon.  Wife was busy at work and then I got calls too so had to leave early.  About 3 single guys, 3 couples, and 1 or 2 bushwackers. The sun out and in which felt great, not overwhelming. Hopefully next time we can both go and enjoy the entire day.

Happy to see the site back up:) We were out both Friday and Sunday, very different days on the beach. Friday was overcast and the Gulf was flat calm and almost no breeze. We set up away from the dunes to try to avoid the bugs and it helped somewhat. Not very many people out, 5 or 6 single males to the south and no other couples, we left around 5:30. Because of the cloud cover it wasn't too hot of a day, water quality was low and there were jelly fish out. Sunday was completely different day, we arrived a little before 1:00 and when we first saw the beach we couldn't believe how many umbrellas were out. There were 8 or 9 couples out to the north and a dozen single males to the south of us. We did some socializing with beach friends and met a lovely young couple who have posted here before. The Gulf was a little choppy 1.5' or so, water temp is over 90 degrees and there was a nice onshore breeze, 10-12mph. Water quality was better than Friday and once the rains stop inland it will just get better and better. Gorgeous day, lots of people out and we ended up staying till after 7:00. We are very much looking forward to our next beach day:)

Wife and I were at Casperson today, 8/11. Arrived about noon and left about 6pm. It was a beautiful day. I walked south past the ferry landing and did not see as many thongs as in the past. I would like to socialize but have not had more than a passing hello as I pass by others. I hate to invade peoples spaces if they are not open to conversation. Just don't know how to get a break. Any suggestions?

We were out yesterday, Sunday 8/11, arrived about 2:00 and left around 5:30. Willbtan next time you see us out please stop and say hi, we don't consider it an invasion of our space:-) Well only if you want to set up your gear next to us, lol. When we arrived, there were 4 couples to the north of us and 2 to the south, quite a few single males in both direction. It was a beautiful sunny day with a nice onshore breeze, the Gulf was a little choppy still around 90 degrees, it was a hot day with very little cloud cover. Water quality has improved somewhat but still less than a foot of visibility. When our beautiful turquoise green Gulf water finally returns I will lead our post off with a big banner:-)  There was more textile traffic than we have seen in quite a while and when we left there was still a textile couple in the water who had set their stuff on the beach right in front of us. Last Sunday was all thongers and no textiles and our beach day was a lot more enjoyable, we try to be very discreet when there are textiles out and even though minimal swimwear is legal we don't like to flaunt it in anyone's face. It is a public beach open to all and we don't make the assumption that just because they walked all the way down to where we are, that they want to see people in minimal swimwear.

The wife and I are planning to hit Caspersen tomorrow so if anyone is around we'll give you a thumbs up. We usually walk south looking for shark teeth and try to get beyond the textiles and single males - we don't mind the single males unless they're up to bad behavior - the kind that give gay people a bad name. Anyway - willbtan you mentioned a ferry landing - I don't believe I've seen that - it must be much further down than we go. Hope we have a nice day - it's my birthday - so I try to find one shark tooth for every year. How ever many shark teeth I find is how old I am for the next year. Hey, works for me.

We were at Caspersen Beach yesterday from about 11 - 3. It was a beautiful day - albeit very hot - and the surf was just right for getting in the water. We walked south from the parking lot until we were away from the main beach area - a half mile or so. We saw a couple under twin umbrellas that gave us a wave, which we returned and spoke briefly.  We set up about 100 yards beyond them and did our first dig for shark teeth. We were surprised the spot we choose was quite full of shark teeth and we had 3-5 in every scoop with the Florida snow shovel. After a few hours we walked south down the beach to see who else was around - it seemed there were a lot of umbrellas on the beach for a Tuesday. My wife was surprised that there were no other couples to be seen - only single men. She said they all looked like me - older white guys in skimpy thongs. She thought the lack of women seemed really odd. This verified our previous practice of hanging near or with other couples when we see them. I had a great day at the beach - I think the wife did too - maybe next time we'll find more couples around. Note to couples - it's good to welcome and be friendly to/with other couples. I think the men will be fine - but the women do need to see and connect with each other for support. The beach can be a bit to 'male' much of the time.

After a great day we made our usual stop at Sharky's for a few Yeunglings and a grouper sandwich. BTW, I had a great birthday . We found over 75 shark teeth in a few hours.

We have not had any beach days of late due to the severity of the afternoon storms, normally this time of year they are just brief showers but this year they are real thunderstorms with big rain and lightning:-( Unfortunately  Caspersen Beach has been in the news lately in a bad way, two arrests of individuals flashing and jerking in front of unsuspecting people have been attributed to the beach. But the fact is that these incidents took place not on Caspersen Beach but nearby at Sharkey's parking lot and the beach near the restaurant. Of the two, one was a local resident and the other was here temporarily working on the new expansion of the local High School. A third "flasher" is being sought that was seen no where near the beach but the incident is being combined by the news media onto the same story. The bad reputation of the beach that is being reported on by the news media stems from activities in the parking lots and the trails adjacent to them, NOT the beach itself. Media spin being what it is these days that is really beside the point and I would urge extra caution and discretion when visiting the thong portion of Caspersen Beach, even though you may think you are miles away from the "problem areas" and in fact you are, Law Enforcement is aware of the location of the thonging area. Being topfree and wearing thongs are not against the law, lewd and lascivious behavior are, regardless of your choice of swimwear. Unfortunately single males visiting the beach have historically been targeted by LE more than MF couples, the most that would happen for a couple is that they will be asked to cover up, single males on the other had run the risk of being harrased by Law Enforcement. It is a sad and unfair fact for those single males who frequent the beach. We will continue to go and enjoy the beach as weather permits and hopefully our next post will be good news:)

Took a long lunch break today and headed out, just a group a guys at the very end like normal.  I was shocked to see an empty beach, from the ramp all the way down.  No couples either.  It was beautiful out today, where was everyone?  Did see two Law Enforcements riding on horses down the beach, came out from the woods then down the shoreline.

Be safe everyone and shame on you all for not soaking up some rays today.

Happy Labor Day! We went out yesterday expecting a ton of people on the beach, and there were:) We arrived just before 1:00 and there were 10-12 couples out and a dozen single males. It was a beautiful day, very, very hot! Light breeze out of the SW, the Gulf was flat, less than 1', water quality is still poor, a scattering of jellyfish and looked to be mating season for the small rays (skates). Light textile traffic until about 4:00, quite a few boats anchored to the north of us and the south. We spent most of our day socializing, we haven't been out much lately and saw a lot of people we know. No issues with LE at all and the beach seemed like it was back to normal. We left around 5:45 and there were still a few other couples out. We arrived home thoroughly cooked and ready for some air conditioning:) If our heavy rains stop we should see the water quality improve and that will help with the heat, not much fun staying in the water when you are spoiled with how nice it can be.

I was at Caspersen today from 8:30am to about 1:30pm. Weather was nice but the lack of breeze allowed the flies to bite. Water had a greenish hue but I could see my feet at the bottom. Saw a couple stingrays go by, they were pretty cool knowing to swim around my legs, LOL. No issues in my g-string set up about 100 yards south of the entry ramps. Crowd was very light. No issues showering off in my suit when I went to leave.

Did see a police chopper hover around the south end of the beach over the trails there around 11am and stayed there for about 20 minutes. Then when I was in the water later I saw the helicopter circling to the north just inland from Venice beach. After I left the beach there must have been a big manhunt for someone. I saw 4 or 5 police cars parked at strategic points with their lights on between Venice Beach and Venice Avenue along Harbour Road. I also saw a few officers on foot with a hound dog walking along the front yards of some of the homeowners on Harbour Drive. So evidently they were in hot pursuit of someone.

Re:Caspersen Beach - Venice, FL

Hello everyone:) Just wanted to add to the info about the LE situation at the beach. The "trails" where the arrests have been made are not the trails on or behind the beach, but the ones up by the parking lots. Of the recent 7 arrests there was only one of them  who actually does frequent the beach, the rest are all parking lot cruisers. It is just such a shame that the parking lots are giving the actual beach a bad rep in the press. The area that Lindros frequents, is the family area just south of the ramps, and if you read his posts, he has never encountered anything untoward until returning to the parking lots and showers. And the press sure is spinning it, like quotes from a woman who wants to know where to buy mace so that she can take it to the beach.  Is that so that she could walk over a mile and a half on the sand to go up to thonging couples and spray them? Because that is the only "beach" activity she would find. We haven't seen this kind of media spin since 2006 when the lady who caused all the fuss would walk 2 miles on the sand to be offended by and confront the guys in the gay area, and low and behold after harassing them for weeks, a couple of them "flashed" her their private parts while they were in the water and everything escalated out of control. There really is a serious problem up at the parking lots with the "cruisers", but that is an area that LE can, and do, easily patrol in addition to the occasional sting operations. All of the beach regulars, ourselves included, would be happy to see all of the low-lifes at the parking lots arrested and hauled off to jail. And as far as the news media telling people that Caspersen is a place to go and find people having sex on the beach, that is just sensationalism and is only going to attract the wrong kind of people and attention. What I find odd is that no one from the Suncoast Naturist Society has been quoted as saying one word in the press, and it may be that they no longer exist as a group. One solution to the problems could be designating a section of the remote portion of Caspersen as a minimal swimwear area and thereby empowering the beach regulars to a point where they will feel comfortable both self-policing and as well as calling 911 to report illicit activities. As it stands now most of the regulars, some of whom have been regular thongers on the beach for over 30 years, just keep quiet thinking that "staying under the radar" is the way to be able to continue to enjoy the beach.
Happy Thonging!

Comments have already been given to the local paper. An update from some of our fellow beachgoers, LE was all over the place today, horseback and in all the parking lots. Of the 10 recent arrests, 3 are known to frequent the beach itself, all bushwhackers, and none of their arrests occurred on the beach as far as any information is known. Most of the regulars are going to an alternate beach to thong for a while, till things settle down. What a mess:-(

"Most of the regulars are going to an alternate beach to thong for a while, till things settle down. What a mess:-("

My impression is the cruisers have been there all along.  What is changed is that LE is trying to get rid of them.  If these statements are true then the thongers should not abandon Casperson.  Abandonment makes it looke like they believe they're the cause of the problem when in fact they're victims of the problem.

Re:Caspersen Beach - Venice, FL

To supplement what Brian said in the last post, I also agree that this is not a time to switch thong venues until things cool down. Reason being is the LEA could care less about the thongers on the beach. Last year (I think it was last year anyway) I was in my usual spot and an officer on a buggy drove right past me stopped about 100 yards south of me and then turned around and passed me again while I was on my stomach. Side note:  I'm guessing they got a call from someone who thought I was nude. Moreover, the police know about the thongers and have never actively pursued them, rather they're going after the pervs on the trails. So yeah I don't see the recent sting ops as a reason to avoid Caspersen for a responsible thonger.

Today I took a late trip to Caspersen after work to get in a couple hours of sun after work and arrived around 4:30pm to a basically empty beach. There was literally nobody south of the last entry ramp so I just set up about 50 yards south of the ramps rather than my usual 100. While the weather was great the flies wouldn't leave me alone. I don't know what was going on, usually with the wind blowing in from the water flies aren't an issue. Anyway, water was fairly calm but still kind of cloudy. No jellyfish stings. After about an hour some shark tooth hunters showed up but no issues. No problem showering off in the thong either upon leaving.

Now the one interesting thing I observed is there were three guys on two dune buggies. These are the green vehicles similar to what the county uses or what the turtle preservation folks use. However, they definitely weren't county workers and they weren't doing anything with sea turtle nests. They buzzed up and down the beach two times each and I also heard them driving through the trees behind & slightly north of me. They were there for at least two hours because they first drove past me just after I laid down on the blanket and were still buzzing around just before I left. So they were either regular citizens out for a joy ride or they might have been doing undercover work.

Perfect day at Caspersen today. I set up only about 50 yards from the ramps thinking the crowd would be light like Tuesday but I was wrong there was actually a fairly healthy number of beach-goers today. However I had no issues in the g-string, just a relaxing day Weather was great, water was refreshing and the waves were active. Sighted a couple dolphins swimming slowly through the water. No jellyfish, seaweed or red tide. Showered off in a thong while a family from Europe was showering off too, they didn't bat an eye at my swimwear. If they weren't Euro's I likely would have waited until they left as a courtesy just in case, but based on experience Europeans have a great attitude toward minimal swimwear & nudity so I knew they wouldn't be offended.

We had planned to go to Caspersen today for a short recon trip and when we arrived, about 12:30 we changed our mind and decided to set up and spend as much of the day as the weather would allow. It was definitely not a "ghost town" as the report we had received from Sunday. While we were the only MF couple out, it was after all Tuesday. Probably 5 umbrellas total and a few textile walkers. We spoke to a couple of beach friends and they have had no issues at all with LE on the beach, both were single males and regularly frequent the beach. The Gulf was flat and the water quality is still poor, wind was very light out of the SW and when we arrived it was HOT and sunny. Gulf water temp is 82 and even though it wasn't clear water I snorkeled anyway for about an hour. About 2:30 was the first light shower came and then it was rain cells dodging north and south of us.  Watching radar on the phone we decided to leave about 3:30 and we were almost the last people to leave. Cant wait till all this rain stops and the Gulf clears up, and hopefully it will be before the cold fronts start dropping the water temp. Our next beach will be back at Caspersen, even though the "other" beach is nice and all it doesn't compare for us.

I stopped by Caspersen this afternoon, arriving at 1pm. Unfortunately my stay was brief as there was an unusually high amount of sea weed floating in the water and on the sand close to the water's edge. It also smelled. It was like this from the entry ramps south about 200 yards, so I took a walk to get some exercise and left. Not sure where all the sea weed came from, conditions were perfect last week. Guess that means I'm destined for a trip to the Fort tomorrow. Oh, when I arrived I saw two police officers on horseback going to the dirt parking lot.

We went out last Sat arrived about 1:30 left around 6:00 and had a very nice day. Almost no one out, one couple packing up to leave when we arrived and 2 single males to the south. Light onshore breeze, the Gulf was flat when we arrived and built up to about 1' by the time we left. Gulf water temp is still over 80, it was a perfect day land temp vs gulf temp. The sad news is the water quality is still bad :( no visibility, bit of seaweed and not a good color. The beach itself is in good shape and the rains have lessened so before long the water quality should improve, and hopefully while the temps are still swimmable. Didn't see any of the Sat regulars but we arrived an hour or so later than usual, the "other" beach is just too far for us and we don't enjoy our time there quite as much.

Went out Friday from about 2 until 5PM.  The place was sparsely populated.  One hetero couple, one gay couple and few single males in thongs and possibly less.  Walked the length of the beach down to the South Venice Ferry board overcrossing.  Sand conditions were perfect, almost no bugs whatsoever. I dropped the board shorts to a black thong and hung out at the very south end for a while.  Heading back north I spent most of the walk without the board shots and frankly without the thong too until almost to the parking lot.  It was a very good day.

Wow! What an awesome day yesterday (Monday), perfect conditions on the beach. We arrived just before 1:00, the tide was out and the Gulf was flat calm, beautiful sunny day. The beach was mostly ours, a few people to the south and one umbrella way to the north. Season has begun and the textile walkers were out, we left about 5:30 and probably saw 7-8 textile couples walk by. Gulf water temp is right around 80 and when we arrived the beach was very hot and the water felt just a little cooler than perfect. Water quality was super, we had waited all summer for the Gulf to clear up from the rains and now is has, it is beautiful blue/green water again:) We won't be out again until this weekend.

We went out yesterday (Sunday) and it was a gorgeous day! Sunny with a light breeze, temps in the 80s but felt hotter, moderate breeze, Gulf water temp was just over 75 but the water quality was very poor, almost no one in the water at all:( We arrived before 1:00 and left just after 4:30, 3 couples to the north and 6-8 single males both north and south and the most textile walkers we have seen in a while. Our season has started, most of the walkers smile and wave, but many just glare. On the way there we thought we might not need to put up the umbrella but we needed it badly, it was very hot while sitting down. We had expected to see more people out, and also thought the water would be clearer than it was, snorkeling time without a wet suit is coming to a close. We may get out again one day this week.

I hope to make my first trip to Caspersen tomorrow.  (Thursday 11/21/2013)  Will probably wear my sheer salmon shorts over a crochet g-string to get to a spot, then peel off the shorts for laying out.  Hope to be able to swim, but I expect it will be rather cold.  Forecast calls for 30% chance of rain and a high of 79.

I'm hoping to head out to Caspersen beach sometime this week. Visiting from out of town and never been there. Any suggestions on parking and setup locations nearer the thong area would be appreciated.

Follow Harbour Road until it ends. There will be two parking lots on the left side, the first one is a dirt lot and the second is paved. Park in either and follow one of the walkways to the beach. Once you hit the beach walk south about a mile and you'll start to see other thongers.

Happy New Year Everyone! wow, 2 months since our last trip to the beach, crazy. Today was an absolutely gorgeous day, mid 80s Gulf temp 65, calm with light wind out of the SW. We arrived late around 2:00 pm, stayed till 5:30. Textile walkers that never stopped, two umbrellas to the north and a couple to the south. Several older single male thongers that we know, and again, a bunch of textile walkers:) Gulf water quality was not great or I would have swam, Candy did well and found a couple of nice teeth. It is January 5th what an awesome day!
Happy Thonging!

Hello everyone, yesterday (Monday) was our second day out this year:) It was a gorgeous day, light breeze, very sunny and warm, temperature was perfect. We arrived about 12:30 and stayed till 4:00, not a lot of thongers out, but it was nice to see that one of the older guys who is a regular finally got his wife to come out to the beach. There were so many textiles out, we have never seen that many before, one group was set up to the south of us, 6 couples plus, some speedoes but the rest were all textile. I am sorry to report that we have lost a LOT of sand:( probably 75 yards of beach is gone and  the high tide line and "shelf" is right up by where we set up. Not much that can be done, just hope and pray.

Hello everyone! Wow! We haven't been out for over a month:( Finally made it out yesterday (Sunday) and it was a beautiful day. We arrived about 1:00pm and there was a stiff breeze 14-18mph out of the SSE, the tide should have been falling but the wind kept it high the whole time we were there. The gulf was rough, 3-4 feet, today at low tide would be a good day for sharks teeth. The beach has not come back at all:( missing 30 yards minimum of beach. Not a lot of people out, probably because of the wind. Almost no textile walkers made for a very relaxing day, we don't have our base tans up to par and both of us got a bit sunburnt:) We might get another chance to go out this week.
Happy Thonging!!

Was at Caspersen Friday 3/21. Started off cloudy, but then the Sun came out and it was beautiful. Great day for hunting sharks teeth. Not many thongers out, just 4-5 males. But we enjoyed the day, just wish we could get back more often.I find it interesting, that I have never had even a funny look from those that see me in a thong. That makes it so comfortable.

Heading to FL for a few days in a couple of weeks. Hoping to go to Caspersen for a few hours. Plan on stopping at the Skinzwear store in Clearwater and pick up a new suit. Hope the weather will be nice.

We spent the day out Thursday the 24th, gorgeous day, lite breeze out of the SW, Gulf was flat calm and just over 75 degrees, I am sure it is a degree or 2 warmer already. Quite a few umbrellas out, only one other MF couple and they were textile, tons of textile walkers out, the "parade" lasted until about 4:00 pm. We had arrived about 1:00 and stayed until after 6:00, only saw a few regulars out that we know. The beach has not returned and the dunes took a lot of damage since the last time we were out. Not much to do but hope and pray, problem is, it will just be a fluke of good luck with "bad" weather for the beach to return to its past size:( So no wishing for bad weather. All next week looks dry and hot by the weekend the Gulf should be close to 80 degrees if not above. Water quality has been very good and I am really looking forward to a day of snorkeling. Our beach reports should start to be more frequent:) Its that time of year, lol.
Happy Thonging,

Wow! What a gorgeous day yesterday! We just went out Sunday just for a walk, didn't even set up chairs. We arrived about 3:30 and were surprised to find so many people out, usually the morning is when there are the most people. At least 6 or 7 couples (non textile) and close to a dozen single males. We saw so many people we knew, it made us glad we had decided to go for a walk even though we didn't have time for a whole beach day:) The Gulf water temp is just over 79 degrees and water quality was excellent, our next beach day will include snorkeling. The last 2 times out we didn't find a single sharks tooth:( maybe that means we will hit the jackpot soon, lol. Weather was perfect, a light breeze and the Gulf was calm, hot out and very dry, it feels like summer is in full swing.

What a May Day! We went out yesterday Thursday the 1st day of May, a windy day with 10-15mph out of the SSW, gulf was a little rough 2' and better, tide was super high, tucked up against the dunes in our spot the water would come right up to us. Partly cloudy but plenty of sun out. There was almost no one out all day long, 2 textile walking groups and 4-5 single males, we had arrived before 1:00 and stayed until almost 6:00. We had such an awesome day with the beach to ourselves and no parade of textile walkers. No snorkeling and no sharks teeth :( But the Gulf water was a perfect temperature still hovering around 80. We will be out again this weekend but the weather forecast doesn't look so good, so it might just be for a walk only like last Sunday.
Happy Thonging!

Hi Brian,
We have no plans to stop bogging about the beach:) We get quite a few comments like yours from beach regulars, especially the snowbirds. No worries:)
