Is there a thread on Clearwater Florida? I did not see one.  A friend of mine wants to goto Clearwater, but I do not know about the thong scene there.  Ive been trying to talk her into south beach...but might try Clearwater if people know some info on it...

Thong style suits remain against the law in the municipality of Clearwater - including Clearwater Beach. If you go you may see another thonger or two, but probably not many and they probably won't be walking about much. I received a warning ticket several years ago because I was walking down the beach. Why not drive across the bridge to Sand Key Park? Others have posted positive reports lately.Sarasotajt

tback-  You will get those stupid comments from the college kids like this is not europe. These comments come from boys with those dorky surf shorts. I did wear a thong at the last lifeguard station on the south of pier , but wore speedo when walking. The lifeguard did not say anything, and was cool with some vacationers from the midwest, so I guess try it, until someone complains.

Clearwater Beach is illegal for t-backs or G's, they banned them several years ago when the ladies use to sell hots dogs on the street corners is thongs.  Do not attempt to wear them as the Police will ticket you.  Sand Key park is cool or Ft. DeSoto Park in St Pete, only 35 min drive.Ski

Do not come to Clearwater Beach to wear minimal swimwear. In fact I would not consider Clearwater Beach to be a good destionation at this time. I live in Clearwater and I can tell you that the beach is undergoing massive amounts of construction. Hotels and other businesses are going under left and right. I was out there Sunday 2/29/08 and I could not believe the mess. My favorite resturant, which was the main reason for going out there has closed  shop. There is a strong bible belt mentality in  Clearwater and they have done  all they can  to make Clearwater a  "family destionation". They have put ordinances in place to ban thongs and other fun things on the beach. If you really want to visit this area I would try Indian Rocks Beach area or further south. I wear thongs there all the time.

no. The law has not been changed within the municipality (city) of Clearwater.
That doesn't mean that the law is enforced on the beach.
Also, the law does not apply outside city limits, so thongs are legal throughout the other Pinellas County beaches including St Pete.

Well i was just there for labor day and i saw ladies in thongs at the beach. I guess if they really dont want thongs at the beach they can always post signs where you enter, like Myrtle Beach does. you definitely couldnt miss it there and if u had anything CLOSE to a thong (like a small brazilian cut) it became an issue. I dont know, if thongs are illegal at clearwater beach then maybe they purposely do not post signs so that people can wear them, get caught, and pay a fine. (their strategy of making more money off beachgoers). well next time i go, just to be on the safe side im wearing a curtain bikini (the ones u can slide the back into a thong, like a curtain, or widen it up to wear it brazilian cut style) whatever.

Oh and by the way I did see a Beach Rules sign, and it said nothing about thongs. It only said no dogs, no this and that.... but nothing about thongs.

Morena   It is like at Sand Key   A few years ago, they had signs reading that appropriate swimwear must be worn. What does that mean. I wish they were defined, and yes you will find a few thongs on Clearwater Beach, but probably people who do not no rules, and a few of the lifeguards dont care.

Re:Clearwater Beach

It is the local Chambers of Commerce and Tourist Development Councils that do not want "anti-thong" signs posted at beaches. This was the case on Anna Maria Island/Bradenton Beach. Signs were posted and then within a few months they were all taken down. The laws were not revoked. The tourism folks feel those signs are in themselves displaying an anti-family message.
Ten or more years ago the City of Clearwater passed their anti-thong ordinance in response to the female hot dog vendors who were standing along the sides of busy streets (near the beach) wearing only thong bikinis. It was a distraction to drivers and the bulk of the population felt it was inappropriate. If the thong wearing had remained only on the beach, there probably wouldn't have been an ordinance.
Also, if you look at a map, you will see that the city limits of Clearwater include the Sand Key beach and park area. That is why thongs are illegal there. Still, you may see people wearing them and it is not the lifeguard's job to enforce beach attire laws. But, if another tourist gets offended and calls the local police on their cell phone the thong wearer might be arrested.
Of course the other issue is the expense to the court system of prosecuting people for wearing thongs. Arguably one reason the ordinances seem to be rarely enforced is that the municipality has decided that they do not want to burden their courts with these cases.
Just my 2 cents.

i spent last month in tampa and Clearwater and thongs are not welcomed any more. as we approached the water park in tampa, adventure Island, they had a sign saying no thong bikini allowed. I never say a sign in clearwater stating no thongs, but i never saw anybody on the beach in a thong. However, i did see a few Russians at the hotel pool in thongs, Shepered hotel, and boy did they look good.If you want to thong, do not waste your time and money in clearwater, go to South Beach.

You can go to Treasure Island Beach, but the wind tents are far away from the parking lot, and bathrooms, so you have to bring a cooler and things, and when you want to walk the beach, your belongings are not the safest. It will cost you 5 dollars to park, rent a cabana 15-20.

Are you saying that Tampa has passed an anti-thong law now?  We all knew about Clearwater.  What about St. Pete Beach and all the other small beach towns in this area?  Those areas on the Tampa bay?

I will say that you can thong anywhere from Sand Key to the Fort, but you are going to be in the minority, and if you get a angry police officer, then they can come up with excuses. I wish the rules would be consistent.

"if you get a angry police officer, then they can come up with excuses." That's right! They will say you are causing a "disturbance" and when you tell them thongs are legal they will tell you that they will arrest you and let a judge decide. All it takes is one person to complain.

Just cross the bridge to Sand Key (Pinellas) park- It's a Pinellas park and while technically in Clearwater, the Clearwater police don't patrol it. The rangers are OK with thongs and Gstrings. Usually not many thongs so you may need to be brave but we go there occasionally when DeSoto has mosquitos or other bugs. Nice beach.

Well i was at clearwater beach last year for labor day weekend... (it was that sunday i think? or monday) and I saw 2 ladies with thongs, one lady was just walking down the beach while chatting with a friend, and later on another lady came, but she had on more of a rio style bottom, but the back of it was so small that you could basically classify it as a thong. SHe did not sit around either, she got in the water. And even changed as if she didn't care who was watching.Beach patrol did drive past us but she wa already in the water by then. It made me mad because i wear thongs, and because of what is being said about CWB on this site, I did not wear mine. Well, i wanted to go to clearwater this weekend, but I guess I will be going to Cocoa instead. There is absolutely nothing wrong with thongs!!!! Even girls with "regular" bikinis on have their arises hanging out a little.

Morena123, I have learned to take information on here with a grain of salt. Many times I have received erroneous information myself. I have decided to just give things a try and hope for the best. Hopefully you will return to the beaches on the west coast and give them another try.

Headed to Clearwater beach next month. Knowing wearing a thong will be out of the question. Do think bikini speedo swimwear will be looked upon as weird? Bought some tan thru shorts feel it maybe less then anyone will be wearing. Have no choice but to stay at Clearwater beach.  Feel will have miserable time surrounded with dork shorts and entolerant  folks. Anyone can update on weather or vibe of the beach in April? Thanks.

We are having 80º weather now so it should be the same when you get here. There will likely be plenty of tourist here so it is hard to predict what kind of reactions you will get regarding you swim wear. You can always take a 20 minute drive or bus ride down to Indian Rocks and wear your thong.

I wear my speedo all the time, however I will only stay there for one day, to check out the scenery. It is spring break, the women are hot, but they would be better in thongs. Yes all beaches from Sand Key to the Fort are much better.

Scenery today was not that great as I expected. As I was walking north of pier 60 after the lifeguard tower #4 there was beauty. Near the jet ski rentals as I checked out the prices I almost ran into nice young tanned woman wearing denim blue thong which most people would say. She had very narrow rio bikini which was the smallest I seen on Clearwater. She was carrying two gas cans to fuel up the jet skis'. Almost wanted to help her seeing dozen gas cans on the trailer ready to be unloaded, thought better not bother. Just she was pretty hot lady and her swimsuit bikini rio was refreshing to see, made my day from feeling discouraged looking at all these tourist.
Had few stares and smirking smiles at a pool condo building wearing my izod seamless bikini, what terrible tan lines I got today. Think I still had on bit larger suit then some woman I shared the pool with. Doubt that will happen tommorow with my skinz skinny side rio.

Ok - So I can legally tan on Sand Key Beach in a gsting with no issues and I have done so for years. I am taking the leap across the channel and hitting Clearwater Beach. I know it is illegal to wear a thong or gsting so for fun I am going to wear my gsting and put a very skimpy Skinz M73 Mens-Stuffit-Pouch-Rio. I have a bright green one that is very sexy to wear even if it does cover the back just a bit. I figure I can walk the beach in my bright neon green suit with my dark tan and enjoy all of Clearwater Beach. The kids are back in school next week so it should be a good time to get out and walk the beach.
To bad it is over cast today or I would be out walking right now.   G

Gbod done it with a skinny side low rio on Clearwater beach before. Expect some people to stare with disbelief.. Walk towards the pier see if that beauty taking people out on rented jet skis wearing her tiny rio... My last count was one teen in a group wore a string rio and the tanned lovely rental jet ski girl.. Other then that you will be the only one wearing a rio or tiny swimsuit... The patrol starsky and hutch will slow down seeing if truly your bum has some coverage, funny seeing some grown men being paid looking out for anyone in tiny swimwear.. You will get grief from people but i doubt anyone will say anything...If you go into the water people might stare or place bets seeing if your rio will slip off from the waves.. With me i suppose i disappointed a few women.. Overall great beach and water but the surrounding company i could do without, way to uptight and prudish wearing people.. The vibe is terrible, expect some comments amongst people about your swimwear...Good luck let us know how it went..

So no legal issues wearing a small rio back bikini with about 1/4" sides. Not worried what people think or say. Just rather avoid any legal problems. Staying there for a few days before going to our normal area near madaria beach for a week. Be visiting desoto that week also.

Yesterday I had to business on Clearwater Beach. I drove from the Sand Key Bridge to North Beach and back 4 times and on each pass down the main beach drive and up through Mandalay Avenue.
I saw well over a dozen young babes in very skimpy rip back or even thong bikinis walking on the sidewalk or unloading the car to head to or from the beach. I know the laws of Clearwater Beach and these ladies were not complying which was fine with me. Wonder what the reaction would be if I was doing the same?

I was stopped by the police on Clearwater just last year. Fortunately no citation, probably because I had a cover-up pair of shorts in my hand that I put on in front of the police officer. It might've been because I was walking around in nothing but a G string though ;). Either that, or the double standard is alive and well in Clearwater because I too saw several dozen girls that were in Rios and a couple true thongs as well.

Wife wanted to go to Clear Water for a few days so no thong for me I guess. Thought no thongs allowed. Saw two women wearing thongs in a very small area. I didn't walk any of the beach. Stayed in one area. Saw no patrol either. But the biggest thing was while we was in Surf Style two girls walk through the store wearing thongs. Had back packs on their backs also. They looked and acted like they was local. The blonde looked great. I would think if enforced these local girls wouldn't be walking around the city in them. I would guess double standards for the most part

There have been considerably more cheeky and almost thong bikinis almost common place in Clearwater beach this summer. It seems these suits are becoming much more standard. I have even seen true thongs a few times at Clearwater on the public beach. Not sure if they are accepted at the hotel pools? Wonder if Clearwater is just enforcing less because they are becoming common place across the country? Although I a, sure it would be enforced if I as a male wore one and likely get me in trouble.

I vacationed in Clearwater in June 2018.  Originally, we were at a Lido Key Resort.  However, upon arrival and without previous notice, we found out about Red Tide the hard way.  We had been to Clearwater several other times in previous years and stayed at the Sand Pearl Resort; but it being at the last minute, they were full.  So, we ended up at the Springhill Suites, across the street from the Surf Style surf shop, down around 311 S Gulfview Blvd.  Anyway, the previous years were mild with the cheeky style being pretty prevelant, at the Sand Pearl area.  But this time we were closer to the Pier / Public parking area and the thongs were everywhere you looked.  At the beach, walking, laying swimming; and at the Hotel Pool, too. One lady couldn't quite keep her nips covered with her very slim one piece.  Maybe there were rules in the past, but they clearly have gone by the wayside, as of last year.  Thongs were way more common place with females of all ages, w/ or w/out kids....  singles, , couples, families, or groups of friends....no "one" group had it covered; or uncovered as the case may be.
