I've only ever seen one woman wear one in public, so are they a stupid idea? Somebody once mentioned on this board that their niece wore one to a waterpark because it stopped your boobs from falling out and wedgies from happening! My wife wouldn't wear one because - being eminently practical - she would say that a minimal bikini is for tanning and a "normal" one piece for serious swimming. She thinks they look silly! So has anybody seen any being worn or does anybody here wear one in public e.g. swimming pool, etc and what is the reaction, or are they an early 90s fashion that's had its day? Curious

I have only seen them worn in public a couple of times - both about 10 years or more ago -once was at an outdoor pool in Cambridge, UK and the other occasion was on a beach in Paros, Greece where a girl was wearing one.  Since thongs/nudity are quite common on Paros, it did not really raise any eyebrows. I have not seen them since then, although at our local public indoor pool a few years back, I did see a couple of girls who were wearing one piece suits with very high cut leg openings, so there was a fairly narrow strip of material covering the front and the bum - not far off a thong swimsuit - most of the rear was exposed. I think these one piece suits with high leg openings look very sexy.

Your answer sort of bears out my suspicions so far.

They seem to crop up more in films and on the internet than in reality, but I could be wrong.

I've been a lifeguard/swimming instructor and been to plenty of beaches over the years (even lived in a seaside resort for 12 years) and I've still only seen 1 - which made me "double-take" because it was the first.

I agree about the high leg suits though. They're less popular now which is a shame because women and girls seem to like them because they can be so flattering to the figure. In the late 80s some were very high and narrow at the front, but you never see those anymore. I've seen lots of girls wearing ones that cover little at the front and back in public pools and elsewhere. Some seem quite happy for them to ride up and give them a wedgie. There are 2 types of girls in these: ones who are constantly fiddling to pull the costumes back in place and those who carry on regardless. It is very sexy though.

Oh, I do remember now once seeing a girl with her mother and brother who had deliberately put her costume into her crease to improve her tan I presume, but that wasn't a thong one piece originally.

I've never seen anyone on the beach wearing a one piece thong swimsuit. The only times I have seen them have been on the TV, music videos and films that date from the 80's. I'm not sure what it was like on beaches in the 80's as I was too young to notice. I suppose the main reason you don't see them is because women just wear a thong and go topless these days if they want a decent tan. The only times you might see them these days is at a gym were women wear them over leggings and a sports top when doing aerobics. But I believe that style of gym dress is going out of fashion if indeed it hasn't gone already.

Last time we were in Miami there was a lady wearing one on South Beach, looking mighty fine too.  Seems like I've seen more than that but can't recall with certainty.

IF anyone hasn't yet watched the Eric Prydz video "Call on Me," do yourself a favor and watch it.  One piece thong at it's finest!

I saw a lady wearing a one-piece thong two weeks ago at Madeira Beach, Florida. I'd guess she was in her late 40's or 50's. She was just laying out in the sun on a chair beside her husband. She didn't walk around at all. Just sunning her buns.

Over all, I'd agree that they're rare.

The daughter of my wife wore a one-piece thong when she was in her late teens, about 15 years ago. She had a perfect figure and was doing it also as a form of protest against the older generation.

They are rare...which makes them even sexier.  I think women don't wear them currently because the trends are to show off your midriff, and a one piece does not do that.  Late 80's early 90's, the trends showed the hips off more, and a one pice thong was perfect for that

My favourite thong one piece sighting was when I was in the Dominican Republic.  There was a lady that woudl do laps in the pool at about 6:30 a.m.  When I first saw her before she jumped in, from the front it just looked like a plain high cut black speedo one piece.  But then a little later I caught a glimpse of the rear and it was a thong that came up to the lower part of her back.  I asked her about it and she told me that preferred the thong one piece for swimming.  She used to swim competitively (this was before those full bodysuits) and regular speedos had more drag.  And they usually wedged up into a thong on her anyway.  But she was not allowed to wear a thong one piece to compete.  So, now for swimming on her own, she wears them.  She found them more comfortable and better performing.   I told her that I fully agreed with her decision!!  What I was surprised at was how tight it was.  The thong part was pulled up very tight on her on her suit, but she said that's how she liked it best.  Who was I to question??

I've seen one-piece thongs on beaches about four times.  I saw several in the late eighties, and my wifes best friend bought one for her holidays (so my wife says)...I'd love to have seen her in it!  Curiously I saw three during one week's stay at Nerja (Costa Del Sol - Spain) only 3 years ago!  Could they have been friends? I didn't see them together. Very sexy look!

PS. I've seen the 'body coverage' issue resolved neatly by a very sexy girl in Lloret (again Spain) circa 1990:  She simply rolled the top half down to sunbathe topless achieving the coverage of a fairly conservative thong.  Anyhow I tend to believe that most momen (and men) are more concerned about how they look, rather than how much they tan - many use tanning salons before they go near the beach!

I think a 1 piece thong swimsuit defeats the object of actually wearing a thong in the first place. I wear minimal thongs on the beach/in the pool to get the maximum possible tan, my thongs also stay on good enough while swimming or at water parks too, and as for a 1 piece keeping the boobs in? why is there a reason to keep them in? after all if you go topless on a beach then what difference does a water park make? Although I have small boobs and they don't bounce about so am I making a mistake in saying this and generalising?

That seems to be my wife's opinion: a thong bikini is for best tanning. A one piece seems stupid to her. They do look quite sexy on a good body though.

My neice in Orlando disagrees.  But then again she is only 15 years old.  Her main reason for a one piece thong is she plays alot of water beach sports and she never has to worry about accidently exposing herself.  When she visits us in South Beach however, when she sunbathes, she wears a thong bikini and she is presently pleading with my sister to go topless.  This is for Kathryn or Lauren or any other female on this board.  At what age did you go topless for the first time on a public beach?

I don't know what to think!!
I imagine Kathryn and Lauren will probably say they were about 1 or 2 years old when they first went topless! Can't see what the big deal is, but I suppose you have to be sensitive to the culture and as breasts are more sexualised in the States the attitude of others and how they view a teenage girls breasts on a beach could affect things. If it was Europe it would be no probelm

I can't recall ever seeing one in public before but I still find them highly attractive.  Maybe it has to do with how most one piece thongs give the appearance of long legs.  First one I remember seeing was in Crocodile Dundee, and being an impressionable young male at the time, it made an impression.

Ujena has a nice looking one that I'll be getting for my gf for our next vacation.  http://ujena.com/bikini-details.php?cid=23&pid=1005

Like every other red-blooded thong-loving male, I have to say that I love one-piece thongs (on women) but, like others, the only time I've seen them is in films, music videos and on the web... but I'd sure love to see them being used more!

matchingthongs originally asked "are they a stupid idea?" I don't think so. I actually think they're quite practical.

Sure, thong swimsuits are used for tanning and, if you want to maximise the tan, a small thong bikini is far more logical than a one-piece but thong swimsuits aren't just for tanning, even if that is their widest application. Swimsuits are also for swimming and diving.

If I had the choice and the opportunity, I'd prefer to swim in a thong rather than a full-back suit because they're more comfortable. I wear thong underwear because I find full back briefs uncomfortable. The same should apply to swimwear... but I don't have that same freedom of choice at a public pool so I wear full back suits.

I wonder whether the same is true for women? The swimmer that pierre_da_man met in the DR thought a thong-back suit was better for swimming. A Spanish swimmer in the 2000 Olympics must have thought the same - she wore a thong for her first (and only) competitive swim. [Unfortunately I don't remember her name but I remember seeing the news at the time!] Competitive swimmers use high-cut suits (in fact, if you look around the web, 'practice suits' tend to be medium leg and 'competitive suits' tend to be high leg) and the same is true for high board divers (I read somewhere that this is to emphasise the line of the body).

Besides looking great, high-leg suits make sense because they don't restrict leg movement. One-piece thongs make sense because the full body keeps the body-line smooth in the water, the high cut legs give free leg movement whatever the stroke, and the thong prevents the back of the suit riding up, bunching and causing additional resistance and drag.

Are one-piece thongs a stupid idea? Not at all. Not in concept, at least. I'd say they probably make the most sense for swimming. But the reality is that most one-piece thongs aren't designed for competitive swimming; they're designed for showing off the body and, let's face it, a thong bikini is better at that! Personally, though, I'd love to see thong-backed competitive swimwear... who knows, perhaps the pros would start using it (male and female) and then maybe they might become more common - or at least more acceptable - for us amateur swimmers. Or maybe I'm dreaming!

I've got to agree with nicthong that one piece thong swimsuits would be ideal for both men and women if your swimming.

I also think that they would be great to wear if your lifting weights in the gym. I've seen quite a few guys wearing something similar, the design which incorporates shorts rather than a thong. And to be honest with all that material bunching up a thong one piece would be far more comfortable and supportive.

Further to my last contribution to this thread (see two/three posts above), I just came across an interview with Amanda Beard - one of the 2004 Olympic swimmers for Team USA - and she's reported as saying "I wear a two-piece a lot to train in, and I wedge it right up my butt. We swim like we're Brazilian swimmers: We have it up our asses." I can only assume she does this to avoid the wedgie swimmers are prone to (click here to see what I mean!) so my earlier thought seems to make even more sense: a one piece thong would be a great solution. Could it be that standards/rules/expectations/peer pressure is what is stopping the use of thong suits? After all, asses get bared anyway. I've even come across this photo (click here)of Japan's synchronised swimmers who might as well be wearing one piece thongs too!

I maintain my stance: one piece thongs aren't "a stupid idea" - they make a whole lot of sense! Any other thoughts as to why we don't see more of them (especially on professional athletes)?

I saw a lady in a one piece thong a couple of years ago in Minneapolis at Thomas Beach (formerly St. Thomas Beach) on Lake Calhoun. It was not a solid one piece but ran together. Funny how she laid out buns down however, with 5 cop cars directly behind her in the parking lot arresting an illegal alien. A couple of the cops looked at her but continued with what they were doing while she turned around to watch the arrest.

I saw a woman wearing a one piece thong in a boat next to us at the boat drags in Illinois. It was late in the day and she had on a nice high cut yellow one-piece thong. Aside from the high-cut sides it was pretty conservative from the front. I thought it looked great and so did most anyone else who saw it.

Too bad more women can't loosen up like this.

In reply to matching thongs:

I have mostly always gone topless on beaches and anywhere where I want to tan but there was a stage where I did wear a bikini top and that was mainly due to the "growing up" thing during puberty. I felt that I was becoming a woman and by wearing a bikini top people would look at me as a woman as the bikini top suggests that I had boobs and was older than I was. I eventually gave up with this as short while after I realised that I was being silly and also hated the silly white marks they were leaving on my boobs.

P.S. my boobs are still very small and I still have very little to cover lol

My wife has and wears both a thong bikini and a one-piece thong (this one-piece right here but only in red). She actually prefers to wear the one-piece in public as having 2 children has left her with some stretch marks on her belly that the one-piece covers up. She's just self-concience about the stretch marks and feels more comfortable covering them up.

I think the one piece thong swimsuit has both its good and bad points. I own 3 of them and use them mainly for surfing as I can get my wetsuit on over it with no problem as when I wear a bikini underneath it ends up all over the place and if I go naked underneath then I get a rash on my nipples. I also have one for wearing over my pair of shorts at the gym as I think that it shows off the figure very well.

Also if you get a high enough leg cut then when you're wearing low cut jeans you have no choice but to show the thong part of the one piece sticking right up your back.

Sarah - is the thong you use at the gym actually a swimsuit or is it a thong leotard? Are there many others you see wearing thongs? I thought they were going out of fashion but this could be good news...

Also, back to the topic at hand, is there a reason you wear a one-piece thong under the wetsuit rather than a regular one-piece? Others in this thread have suggested thongs are for tanning but if you're wearing a wetsuit that can't be the reason. And you said you wear a one-piece to stop bunching and stuff... I'm curious as to why you choose the thong rather than the regular back. Is it a comfort thing?

Thanks for all the interesting replies so far. Looking back at the original post I'm beginning to think that the way to look at it is why have a one piece that isn't a thong if it can ride up etc. I suppose it really is a question of what you are used to and what you will use it for.

As for Sarah's post, I'm surprised that a girl of her age would wear one. I thought they were an 80s thing. Perhaps there are signs that they are coming back into fashion, hopefully in a more "mainstream" way?
Sarah_Thomas #27

Re:Do women actually like or even really wear one piece thong swimsuits?

Date Posted:01/17/2005 10:16:21Copy HTML

I wouldn't say that they are coming back into fashion because If I'm sunbathing and trying to get a tan then wearing a one piece suit is the last thing on my mind as I think they are a terrible idea for sunbathing.

The reason I wear mine is that when I wear a wetsuit with nothing underneath I get a rash on my nipples and even more so now I have both of them pierced. I've tried wearing a bikini top underneath but I'm sure you can appreciate that the wetsuit is tight and when the bikini top gets pushed about while lying on the board to go out to sea then that starts to get a bit uncomfortable, also wearing a normal back one piece is uncomfortable again because when it gets bunched up your butt and youre in a tight wetsuit then it feels awful, so therefore the one piece thong is perfect for me to wear under my wetsuit as the thong is out of the way and can't get bunched anywhere and the rest is tight enough to stay in one place not for my nipples to get sore.

Problems solved ;-)

As for the one I wear at the gym its a normal leotard one piece

I think from reading your earlier post that your niece is a young girl?

I think that one piece thong swimsuits are exactly what you said..."Practical" and I think this is the main reason that most women wont wear them, like I said I only wear mine for my sport and also it sounds like your niece only wears her's when she's doing some sort of physical activity. If I were to go to the beach to sunbathe like most other women then I wouldn't dream of wearing a one piece as I think it defeats the object of sunbathing so I tend to wear as little as is allowed.

They are practical for the right reasons I agree though.

Hi Sarah - Thanks for taking such an active involvement in the board - it's great to have your opinion! There's a bit of discussion about your one-piece thongs in another thread but I figured I'd ask my questions here to keep it all on topic. You wrote...

"I bought my one piece swimsuits off the internet a while back ... I thought the onepiece would stop that and the thong back would not ride up my butt inside the wetsuit like bikini bottoms do or a full one piece."

Makes perfect sense. And sexy too! Anyway, that said, my question is what style one-piece do you wear? Do you know which online store you got it from? Do you have a link?

"I don't use the local swimming pool as we have a pool at our college. And you're right, I don't wear my 'WW's to the pool as I don't they would be quite appropriate lol so yeah I do wear the one piece."

Does that mean you wear your one piece thong to the swimming pool or just a regular one piece? If you wear the thong, what kind of reaction do you get? Do others wear thongs at the pool too? What about your guy friends that wear thongs? Do they swim at the pool in thongs too?

Thanks - Nic

Hey nic hows life? My style of one piece thong are (you being british) similar to the ones in the eric pryds video call me that look something like this

http://brigite.com/St.Tropez%20One%20Piece.htm

Although I hope I look a bit better than the lady in the photo (no offence)

I did buy some of the sexier suits but they aren't as good and just fall about like bikinis so they went out.

The answer to your other question is that yes I do wear the one piece thong to the swimming pool, but this isn't so much of a big deal as you might think. Due to the  pool being at the collage there might only be 6 or 7 people in there at a time so when me and my friends go there we probably double or even treble the population of the pool. As for my friends some of the girls wear thong bikinis (modest thongs though what you would compare with the speedo thongs, as they are the same as me and keep the skimpy stuff for abroad) and the guys wear a range of things, they don't particularly make an effort to wear anything its just what they tend to bring on the day whether its a thong, speedo style or shorts.

Hope this helps nic and I'm always glad to help with any subject,

Luv

No offense to you Sarah, but as a 40 something myself, I thing Brigite looks damn fine in her suits and admire her pluck for wearing them at an age when the vast majority of her contemporaries are hardly willing to be seen wearing a thong in public whether they have the body or not to carry it off. Besides, as has been discussed on this board previously, older women (ie 35+) can have sexualities much less tortured and inhibited that women in their 20's as witnessed by their more positive viewpoints to men in thong or g-string swimwear.

Don't get your thong in a twist.

Like I said there was no offence meant and if you read my post properly at no point did I say that I thought the woman in the photo looked bad or anything even remotely like that and I do respect her for wearing that style of suit.

All I was trying to get across is that due to my age (19) and have what I hope to be a decent fit body then I would hope to look better than she does. It's a matter of opinion whether I do or not but again I wasn't having a pop at that woman (whoever she may be) and certainly not having a pop at people older than me. If I were to look like that when I was her age then I would be more than happy.

My ex-wife owned a white one piece thong. It was the sexiest article of clothing she owned and I think the reason for this was it didn't have any practical purpose except to show skin. She wasn't a fitness swimmer. She didn't tan well, besides the tanlines would be stupid. So the only reason she owned it was to show off her hips and butt. Being white it was that much more daring.

I don't recall her wearing anywhere that people would see her in it though. Just out and away.

OK so I can't provide a woman's point of view....  but I do think that a thong cozzie or leotard is really great over lycra shorts (or for that matter without shorts!) used as gymwear.

While I would always prefer to see g-string or thong swimwear on a fit female, undoubtedly there is something appealing about a high-waisted thong-backed one-piece suit worn as beachwear.  Some of these sides are far higher than most thongs or gs, almost up to a girl's ribcage.  (for example the black St Tropez).  So while we all prefer something far smaller, I'm sure that all of us would choose a thong one-piece to a full-back one-piece anyday!

.....at least it's a step in the right direction.!

It just occurred to me that I, at least, need some clarification on this subject. When we talking about one piece thongs are we mainly taking about tank style one pieces or are we included slingshot style thongs as well? I think we can all agree the two styles have almost nothing in common.

Re:Do women actually like or even really wear one piece thong swimsuits?

When I first posted this question I never considered sling-shots. To my mind they are very much a niche product designed for the beauty pageant; no doubt I will be put right on that. I've only ever seen them on the internet and I can't help feeling they look, well, very silly really and bound to give an odd tan without the support of the usual one piece thong which probably provides great support for water sports.

What do others think?

Thanks to everyone for getting really good responses down so far on this question!!

I agree totally, they are silly looking. Or at the very least, impractical for anything else but beauty pagents. I think body surfing in a slingshot would create some embarassing and illegal circumstances. I would love to catch it on video.

I have not contributed to this board in quite a while, had a bad experience, which I suppose was my fault for being a bit too critical, and I appologize. I'll stick to subjects I know well. One piece thongs.

Strangely enough, I bought my first at the same time I bought my first G-string bikini. I was at a shop called California Sunshine in the King Of Prussia Mall (about 15 mi W of Phila.) I was buyining bikinis for vacation, had a Pan Dulce G String in hand and one of the sales girls asked me, or showed me suits from the same line. It included a onepiece g-string tyank suit that came with a very little pair of shorts. Very cool! Bought it all and had more fun wearing the one piecce and shorts because it was way more sugestive in public areas than I would wear just the g-string bikini. As far as slings are concerned, I wear them on the beach in Wildwood NJ, and have seen several other girls wearing them too. Bodysurfing , no, but thats when you get out the sling bottoms and a bikini top, or a one piece thong, which is what I suppose this thread is all about.

As far as tan lines go, most girls I know, myself included, don,t have any. Tan lines are a distant memory when I put my strings and slings on.

I keep thinking about posting a Wildwood beach thonging report the way JM did Lauderdale. For what its worth , saw him tightening his laces in front of the Doubletree last April on th or Fr before the air show, and again in mid Sept. He's the real deal. JM- I'll  be back down in Sept and will let you know where to look for me.

I have not seen anyone wearing a one piece thong in years.  The last time was about 10 years ago.  A girl in her 20s was actually in a thong leotard working out.  She had a cropped top over it and a pair of athletic shoes on.  She looked really cute and sexy.  As she ran by to the next work out station, I could see that her leotard was more of a sling which explains the cropped top.

Wildwood girl,
We would love to have you post a thonging report for any beaches you have visited lately! Thongs, slings, whatever. Doesn't seem like they are too popular in the east. What have your experiences been, good or bad?

My lady friend and I think one piece thong swimsuits are really sexy. She's got two, a blue one and a white one that goes transparent when wet. She wears them in the garden and is planning to wear them at breakfast when we go to Hedonism later this month. Our understanding is that females have to have their nipples covered in the restaurants but can wear thongs. Me? I'll be wearing a different Dore or Hom thong everyday to breakfast and then spending the rest of the day nude before putting my thong back on in evening.

I have no idea why you don't see them more, I find them REALLY sexy. In fact I bought a black one piece thong form Victoria's Secret for my girl friend and a matching black SPEEDO thong for me. In the near  future we are planning to run off to Hawaii and get married on the Hawaiian sand. We are planning to have a traditional Hawaiian wedding were you jump into the ocean after the ceremony, wearing our matching black thong suits under our sarongs.

My gf wears one piece g strings... well if you can call them one piece... they are sling shot type suits that only cover her nipples and vcagina and then are a string for the rest.  she bought them from sexybathingsuits.com  she has about five and wears them all the time, she is 25

johnbar5251,

I believe the girls name to be Laura Roca. I've tried to find the Sydney 2000 pics of her on the internet, but so far no luck. Does anyone have pics or footage of the 2000 olympics swimming event featuring Laura wearing a thong one piece?

I only remember seeing one girl in a one piece thong swimsuit.  It was in Corfu at the end of the season in October on a deserted beach apart from the girl and me and my wife.  At first I thought she was nude, because the colour of the suit was skin colour, but my wife, who has better sight than me told me she was wearing a thong one-piece.
I went for a swim towards where she was in the water, but by the time I got near her, she was leaving the water, so I had a magnificent view of her behind.

I've been looking to buy a slingshot type one piece bikini. I've always liked the them ever since I saw one in a magazine but  never seen anyone wear one at the beach. The two slingshot's I like is the one from the-bikini.com and the Roma slingshot bottom. Either one of those would be cool!
