When polls get silly someone needs to put up a private sign on one of the poles. If a sign looks official in some way it is left alone. Something like a yellow triangle with no writing on it and some cryptic number on the back should work. County and park rangers will just assume some other agency put it up.
Near me there is a black telephone pole that someone has three bright green stripes pained around the poll. I am sure it is a private mark to tell people where to turn. The key is to maintain the mark by repainting it every other year.

Rickl, the numbered poles are new this year, due to the disappearance of the dunes and the rear of the beach being much further back.  When erected, their numbering was reversed!  Thus the confusion.  And I would agree, about 15 minutes east from the parking lot/lifeguard towers gets you into solid thonging territory.

In July I noted in my report on my time on Block Island dated 7/28/13 that I met a young woman boogie-boarding nude who is a medical school student at the same university where I did my graduate work.  We kept in touch and said that we would go to the beach some time in the fall if the weather and our schedules cooperated.  Things fell into place yesterday (Wednesday) and we took a trip to East Beach.  It was a beautiful, sunny day with a gentle breeze when we arrived around 11:30 AM.  There was hardly anyone on the beach.

We walked about 15 minutes down to pole 71 and got nude up near the dunes.  We tried to keep a low profile whenever anyone walked by near the water or drove by in an off-road vehicle.  After about an hour, the wind picked up and began blowing the sand, so we moved back to a cut-out in the dunes where trees and shrubbery were blocking the wind.  Somewhat later a gentleman who had been sunbathing nude a bit farther down the beach stopped by on his way back to his car.  We invited him to sit with us and we all had a nice time sharing information about the scene at the beach.

Our idyllic interlude was interrupted by the approach of an Environmental Police vehicle.  At first it looked as though the vehicle were going to pass by, but the driver did a u-turn and got out of his vehicle and approached us.  We had covered up as soon as we saw the vehicle, but the officer said that it was obvious that we had been naked.  He took names and addresses and went back to his vehicle.  After about 10 minutes he returned to say that we would be given warnings and that the next time there would be a $100 fine.  The encounter was courteous and it didn’t ruin our day.  We managed to have a few hours of fun and interesting conversation, so we have a fond memory of an unexpected day at the beach in October.

I’m definitely going to buy a windscreen before next summer for use if I go back here.  It will not only do its intended job but also provide a visual screen.

Getting tired of the cold winter up here in the northeast, so I thought of ordering some new g-strings for my outings to East Beach.  Anyone know if mesh baggies or micro see through g-strings would be a problem?  I saw some nice pale blue transparent g-strings on the bikini-beach site and would like to know if they are ok for East Beach.  Also, Dore's mesh baggies look intriguing.

outdoorguy - I know how you feel!  I've worn extremely small G-strings, solid colors, mesh and sheer (see through when wet) at East Beach for years with no problem.  I've also worn a Dore Triple Dip which covers virtually nothing and a C-String.  I know that SlidingG wears a baggie routinely.  I think that you are wearing something (as opposed to nothing)  is what is important.  If it looks like you are wearing something from a reasonable distance you should be OK.  My Dore Triple Dip is dark blue just for this purpose (I also have a yellow lycra Triple Dip for later in the season when the tan is there).  Personally I would recommend that you stick with something that is very small, ties around the hips and stands out color-wise.  I have found that to be the most practical.

Thanks for the feedback, rick.  Based on what you said, I should have no problem with a Dore cage suit. They are similar to the tripple dip, but are only 1/4" strings, no fabric.  Maybe I'll see you at the beach if the weather ever warms.

Suggest you wear your cage down in the 'thonging area', where others may appreciate it, and well back on the beach so passersby note its splash of color, but none of the detail you're displaying.  I've worn both my cage and my triple-dip there without incident (unless other thongers' acclaim counts as 'incident'), but I make sure 'regular folk' never get too close.  Not fair to them, and why risk trouble.

I've often worn my baggies back among the regular folk, but only where we're well spread out (though if others arrive later and set up close, that's their business, and I pay them no heed).  To and from the water I turn one way and another enough to make sure anyone looking can see my 'splash of color', thereby assuring them I'm not naked.  Again, no incidents.  And some appreciative looks!

Most of the time now, though, I set up well back among the regular folk and wear my regular tan-thru sliding g-strings, which I think are attractive and very decent.  Same as I wear everyday here on the beach in Naples, FL, with regular folks all around.  My interest in pushing the envelope is waning, I just want to work on my overall tan, and be accepted as a regular, decent guy, part of the community, who just happens to prefer very brief swimwear, and has the self-confidence to do so despite what others choose to wear.  Again, my old adage comes into play:  'freedom of choice, with mutual respect'.  Seems to work -- never a harsh word, despite all the looks.  Then they're back to their own business.  After all, I'm just one more beach goer enjoying his day in the sun and surf, like themselves.  Hey, I think that sounds like one of JM's thong ambassadors!  I love the role.

I've been reading these posts about this beach, sounds like a great place to go. I'm going to make the trip down sometime this year during a weekday and check it out.   I just got a cage thong and doesn't sound like one would run into a problem wearing it.   I'm going to make a trip to Crane beach on the 23rd of this month and will be in the thong area there. May try East beach in July or August for a day.  East beach will be about a little under a 2 hour drive for me but I do want to visit it.Has anyone been there yet this year?

Make sure you visit on a day the wind is blowing off the water, else you'll get eaten alive!  Not the big greenheads of Crane's, but plenty pesky just the same, small black biters.  I always check the wind direction before going, it makes all the difference.

Well, lucky me!  This Monday the 30th I have off and according to the weather Charlestown will be about 74, partly cloudy with a sw wind.  Sounds pretty much like Crane beach last Monday when I was up there.  So I'm ready for the nearly 2 hour drive to check this place out and hope to get to see some other thongers.   From reading this board over and over again, seems to be poles 31 to 41 are the place to go.  Plans are to be on the road by 7am, spend the day and enjoy it.If any of you go and happen to come across me, feel free to come over and hang out, company is always welcome and there is always room for one more.  I'll be in a blue cage thong, more than likely near the dune lines.

John -  I chatted with someone who was at East Beach a week ago (Saturday, June 21st).  He said that the DEM Cops were on patrol so be sure to wear something.  Also that the plover areas were still up - sections of the beach roped off so that it was necessary to lie out close to the water's edge.  Past experience has been that the roped areas have started to shrink in time for the 4th of July weekend.  If you end up going please let the rest of us know how it turned out.

Re:East Beach Charlestown Rhode Island RI

Date Posted:06/28/2014 01:30:50Copy HTML

Rickl - Thanks for the info.   If I need to be close to the waters edge I'll keep it low key and just sunbathe in a speedo. Depending on foot traffic and DEM, I can always switch to the thong and just keep an eye out for people heading my way. The speedo slips over the thong quickly so I don't think I'll have a problem.  I did this last week on Crane beach with no issues.  Hopefully I can find a quite secluded area at East Beach and enjoy the day.  I'll definitely post something when I get back if I make it there.  Late in the day at Crane there were only about 6 or so thongers and no foot traffic which allowed me to stay in the thong I was wearing and was able to walk the beach and shoreline.  Sugarbutt - I'll let you know if it's safe for nude tanning or if I see others sunning nude.

John - I don't think a thong is all that big a deal on Rhode Island beaches but nudity is - a $100 fine and (maybe) a court appearance.  The dunes were pretty much washed away during hurricane Sandy so it makes it that much easier for DEM to patrol.  Remember that they start charging at 8 a.m. so if you can get there before that it will be a freebie.  And don't forget bug repellant, hopefully you won't need it but if you do you will be glad you have it.  Good luck and have a terrific day.

Wish I could be there before 8 but I'm going out to breakfast with g/f and then driving her to work.   I won't be nude, last thing I want to do is end up with a court appearance or be classified as a level 1 sex offender.  The thong is as close as I can get to it but I do need the speedo as the thong is a cage style that can get me close to a full body tan and not wanting to offend anyone, I can cover up with the speedo should someone approach me. I got the bug spray 2 weeks ago, all set there.  Will try to write an informative review like yours.

John, doesn't the cage suit give you strange tan lines?  I've worn mine occasionally at East Beach, but just for kicks, not for tanning.  For that, I wear tan-thru sliding g-strings, with meshes in print patterns that aren't see-thru.  They're fine around regular folks, never a hassle, even walking all the way to the breachway and back.  Wish I could join you Monday -- in a cage or sliding g -- but life is too crazy busy just now, we're in the throes of moving to Florida.  That's not so bad, come to think of it!

Hi SlidingG,  I didn't notice any strange tanlines but again I made sure I was protected with a lot of spf 50 sunblock last Monday, my 1st day at a beach.   I did get some good color but nothing odd where the cage sits, pretty uniform all over except my back which got a slight sunburn.Good luck with your move to FL, lucky you, now you get to enjoy better weather in winter!

Hi everyone, I visit east beach all the time and nudity is definitely NOT allowed. Anyone who implies it is ok there is giving you bad information. Plus most of the beach has piping plover ropes up this year.. Which usually come down by august 1st.. Not July 4th. I think some bad information about how thong friendly the beach here is.. With the restricted access and families crowded around.. More caution should be used.. Enjoy your thronging like I do.. But please be more cautious than what is being said here

I haven't been this year but it's always been around Pole#39 or so.  About a 20 minute walk down the beach.  Another way would be to walk until you can see the parking area - when it's about 200 yards away that's the spot.  I wish I could go, Rio but it doesn't look like it.  Please let us know how your day goes.

I've heard they're not allowed, though I've never asked anyone in authority there.  Of course, they're not allowed on CT state beaches either, though I've thonged on them on several occasions without a problem.  Just kept a low profile and didn't get in peoples' faces.

So maybe you could thong at Misquamicutt, but why bother?  East Beach is so close, and so thong-friendly.

Re:East Beach Charlestown Rhode Island RI

Yesterday I had the opportunity to spend a few hours on East Beach.  There are ropes about 25 feet from the dunes extending all along the beach to protect nesting birds.  However, the beach is so wide that there's plenty of space between the rope line and the water.

I walked about 10 minutes down the beach to get far away from most people because I wanted to sunbathe nude.  I put on a c-string whenever anyone walked by (very infrequently) and when walking back and forth further down the beach.

There were about 50 people on the beach near the entrance. There were two individual men in thongs between the entrance and where I set up.  There were another two single men nude further down the beach.

Around 1 PM a young woman came walking in the restricted area apparently checking on the bird nests.  She didn't seem to have any interest in my attire.  There were no ranger patrols.  I chatted briefly with one of the other men who said that he's been coming there regularly and has not seen any patrols.  He mentioned seeing the woman who does the environmental checks on several days.

The water was chilly, but warmer than what I experienced on Cape Cod last week.  I left around 3 PM after the breeze stiffened and the clouds got the better of the sun.

Take Route 95 South to Route 4 (East Greenwich) that turns into Route 1.  Keep on Route 1 all the way past Wakefield and into Charlestown.  It's about 13 miles from Wakefield to the East Beach turnoff.  Actually there are two East Beach Road turnoffs, if you miss the first one take the second one they both lead to the same light.  If you see Michael's garage on the left you have passed it.   By Rhode Island standards it's a long haul but worth it.  The present daily beach parking fee for RI residents is $10 on weekdays and $14 on weekends and holidays.  For non-residents, $20 on weekdays and $28 on weekends and holidays.  However these may be cut in half, if the 2016 State Budget is passed as presented in the General Assembly.   That would happen on July 1st.

GW or anybody else thinking of visiting East Beach - I'd recommend  a windbreak, sometimes there can be a very brisk breeze coming off of Block Island Sound and privacy the privacy is always a good idea.  Second, get a bottle off Deep  Woods Off with Deet - that will  work against most of the bugs that you might run into - especially greenheads.  Third,  water.  The walk down the beach in the morning  us usually pretty easy but walking back in mid-afternoon not so much.  A stop halfway for a waterbreak can be very welcome.  Fourth, wearing a white t-shirt for the walk back is a good thing,  taking a quick dip wearing the t-shirt before the return walk will keep you cool as the water evaporates.  Finally,  let us know how it goes.  Have a good day at East Beach.

Re:East Beach Charlestown Rhode Island RI

Date Posted:06/10/2016 07:27:33Copy HTML

I had a small free spot in my day today (waiting for feedback from clients) and the cool morning seemed like it was going to develop into something that would just barely be a beach "window". So I took a chance on East Beach today. I was only going to be able to be there for a few hours but I just bought the season's pass so that was no big deal. The weather is windy and in the very low 70's today but mostly sunny - that and it being an early June weekday meant that there weren't many people on the beach. Super easy to get going on this beach: park, short walk on the path, and presto! on the beach. I just walked in an easterly direction (to the left as you face the water) for maybe 10 minutes, passing a few couples, and one or two solo folk. The beach isn't terribly deep, maybe about 50 yards from the very back at the small dunes to the water's edge, the tide was going out so it was helping that. I just went back from the water about halfway, so I was politely back from any walkers, put down my towel and stripped down. I decided to go all the way and wore only a super brief Jovana 4D g-string (mesh). The nearest people were at least a few hundred yards away. I was there for two hours, the sun was hot for most of that time, and I went in for a chilly did twice. Delightful to have something so very brief on on such a lovely day and beach. Really almost naked, to be honest. But I was respectful and didn't parade in front of people walking or make much of a show. I felt that I was far enough back that I was not "in your face" but not hidden either. After a short time a woman (maybe middle aged) came fairly close to my spot and up into a small depression at the edge of the dunes and lay out topless. Very nice body, deeply tanned with a nice white bikini bottom. Just before I left an older gentlemen came and set up back in the dune edge, on the other side of me, and lay out in a brief thong. I caught his eye at one point and waved - helps to be friendly!Next time I may go back a little further like those two - the edge of the small dunes has sparse dine grass that provides a moderate visual screen and that's probably a good idea. I don't think I attracted much attention, although one woman walked closer than she needed to twice and one guy definitely went back and forth and came very close - obvious "checking out". I have no problem with that as I'm fit and look pretty good. :-)When I was ready to go, I took a quick dip, walked back and rinsed with some water I brought, quickly stripped naked (checking to be sure that regular people were faaaar away) to dry off and put on shorts. The guy in the dunes seemed pretty interested in that, LOL, even though it was pretty quick. If you are on the board, sorry I couldn't do more of a show. ;-)Absolutely coming back to East Beach with my wife - this is going to be a nice Summer!

In Connecticut for a couple days, I'm hoping to spend July 29th at East Beach, too, weather permitting, and would like the same info, i.e., the current best spot for minimal strings.  Now based in Florida, I haven't been there in 2-3 years.  My Dore cage worked fine all day at SoBe recently, so I'd like to try it here, too.  Perhaps also my crochet suit, which holds things in place, but doesn't cover much.  East Beach was always a place I could push the envelope, and folks were very accepting.

If you want to cut and paste from your word processor do not do it directly.
First paste it into notepad or other basic ascii editor so that the formatting codes are removed, then cut again. This will give you clean posts.
