Date Posted:07/13/2014 07:58:15Copy HTML I didn't see this posted anywhere else, so here goes.
http://www.dailylife.com.au/news-and-views/news-features/in-defence-of-skimpy-swimwear-for-men-20140623-3anil.html It's nice to see an item written from a mature view and not infantile or like a giggling teen. ----- In defence of skimpy swimwear for men If you use any form of social media, you’ve probably already seen those photographs of two young men wearing some seriously skimpy swimwear on a beach in southern Spain. The pictures have spent the past couple of weeks being circulated to raucous laughter. Men! In half-thongs! On the beach! [...] When I first saw the images, I balked along with everyone else. Where did it all go? How did it stay up? Why is this on my computer screen? But as the days passed and person after person reposted, I started to feel a little differently about them. Skimpy slings (or ‘schlong thongs’ as Norris jokingly refers to them) leave very little to the imagination, which is an unusual position for most men to be in. Cast so wholly and unabashedly under the gaze typically reserved for women, I started to think that the look was - dare I say it - kind of sexy. The mankini as demonstrated by members of the cast of Towie. It’s an unpopular view. Most people I’ve spoken to casually about the images reject them on sight. While individual explanations vary, they all seem to boil down to one essential idea - that the contraptions are ridiculous, effete and somehow altogether too feminine to be considered attractive. ‘Real men’ are apparently above engaging in such silly vanity exercises. |

Re:Fashion piece on men's swimwear Date Posted:07/13/2014 08:41:24Copy HTML Good post and article. Seen those guys in one sided thongs before and the negative remarks.
Think the article hit it bang on and the troubles i terribly tried to explain on this forum. I can relate to the to guys in one sided thongs. Feel people have the same response towards my fashion sense as well. Be it wearing my poser thong or yoga tights. People believe no man should look like that only left to some select woman. Never ever will woman accept or desire a male wearing what the article explains so accurately. While we all try to justify as long we like wearing our attire that's all that matters. In reality we shut out society negativity in hope to one day welcome us to the fold. In reality we are on island alone at our making or ocean hoping to keep our heads above water. Still going to wear what i want but being very careful of my location or people i surround myself with. True that guys like the pictures shown including myself have major vanity issues. We believe we look amazing while others believe it's not the case only a delusion on our part. They feel pity or just laugh at the absurdly of our appearance. While i enjoy what i wear feeling good others reactions are confused exactly reasons stated in the article. What thoughts cross peoples minds when seeing the likes of the picture of the one sided thongs or myself in various clothing. "Dude! you shouldn't be wearing dat!". Then inevitable happens is laughter or chuckles follow. We all know when someone looks upon someone with a fit body they pause before making a judgement. Once people address what is center of attention or subject matter such as a thong, then they then make their bias view heard. Same judgements are made of me being seen nude or in a thong and tights. Analyse my body symmetry then judge if my clothing is appropiate to wear or how my body is groomed. Often walking along the beach in my thong i see how better i look then some woman her rio cut bikini bottom or thong. Watching females adjusting their bikini bottoms seeing their bum rash or untoned legs. Yes woman feel self consious once seeing my perfectly tanned bronzed buns and flawless smooth skin. So when i see full cut bikini bottoms worn by woman who find me exactly like the article states. Often i believe they should envy my attire or appearance and body. Calms me down knowing the joke is their jello like bodies having fear to put on a thong themselves because of ridicule they can't handle. |

Re:Fashion piece on men's swimwear Date Posted:07/17/2014 12:59:36Copy HTML I saw that article earlier today. It's nice to see that Speedo acceptance is up to almost 3/4 of the people polled. That is indeed progress.

Re:Fashion piece on men's swimwear Date Posted:08/10/2014 11:38:50Copy HTML Thongdude: I was surprised by the result from Norway, but one must ask if they are inclined to keep their opinions to themselve, or else act like a drunken redneck from the USA and share their every trivial thought loudly with the world? Remember that not all who disapprove or disagree with our choices are a problem, only those who demand that everyone conform to their lifestyle.
Several years back, I stayed in a hotel in south Daytona that was filled with conservative pentacostal christians who did believe in shirtless men or women and wore nothing shorter than knee length. I mostly wore the 2" side speedo brief, but had no trouble from any of them. Even engaged in friendly conversation with some. They don't believe in speedos or bikinis, but they also don't believe in alcohol, drugs, foul language, brawling, etc., so they were able to control their thoughts and impulses. |

Re:Fashion piece on men's swimwear Date Posted:06/30/2025 02:09:19Copy HTML Well the New York Times has an article about mens swimwear fashions and featuring briefs or bikinis! Just movement toward briefs will later pull even the most fashion resistant Dads toward "speedos"!
https://www.nytimes.com/2025/06/25/style/men-swimming-briefs-speedo.html Moderator Note: Behind a paywall so here is the Text: Skimpy Men’s Swimsuits Are Making a Splash This season, after years of fielding requests for a particular swimsuit online and at his retail stores, the men’s wear designer Todd Snyder gave those who had been asking what they wanted: a swim brief. Mr. Snyder, who is known for making modern versions of classic items in the American man’s wardrobe, said that even though he had a sense of customers’ appetite for swim briefs, he was surprised by his version’s reception. “It’s been doing killer,” he said of the brief, a new addition to his namesake brand’s swimwear offerings — competing “neck and neck” with the trunks his brand sells. The Todd Snyder Mykonos brief, which is sold in three solid colors and has an inside pocket for small items like keys, is among the latest iterations of a swimsuit being revisited by some luxury brands (most are European) and by men bold enough to wear it. They do not include Mr. Snyder. “I think I’m past that,” the 57-year-old designer said, laughing. “Those days are gone.” Bode expanded its line of nostalgic and embroidered clothing to include solid-color swim briefs last year, and other rarefied styles currently for sale include asymmetrically cut briefs by Rick Owens, a rococo pair by Versace, a leopard pair by Dolce & Gabbana, a checked pair by Burberry and logo-stamped styles by Louis Vuitton and Gucci. But no luxury brand has leaned in quite like Miu Miu, the women’s wear label beloved by many men, which was ahead of the pack when it showed swim briefs styled with T-shirts, polos and low-slung shorts in its spring 2024 collection. Now the brand offers a pair in seven colors and 14 sizes. Its three-figure price, like those of some other styles, is just as likely to cause a double take as the briefs themselves are. |

Re:Fashion piece on men's swimwear Date Posted:07/07/2025 09:39:50Copy HTML Same Story/Different Year: Annually we get at least least one fashion writer touting the revival of “Speedo-style” swimwear as the “revival” remains buried under the always-present sea of tent-like Dork shorts. It’s almost like the video feature run EVERY 4th of July with a poorly dressed mannequin getting a hand blown off by illegal fireworks. Some stories return like the swallows to Capistrano.

Re:Fashion piece on men's swimwear Date Posted:07/08/2025 07:59:58Copy HTML I've noticed more briefs on men at the beach. One dude was running down the beach in a speedo. 4 people setup near me, one guy in a speedo and the other in shorts. The 2 ladies were on thongs. They all waved at me when I walked by in my thong. I hope this trend really takes off. Imagine as a guy being able to wear briefs or thongs anywhere? |

Re:Fashion piece on men's swimwear Date Posted:10/14/2025 01:41:22Copy HTML "The thong is not just swimwear. It’s a call to arms. To drop the fabric and raise the flag. To let your glutes do the talking. To remind the world that real masculinity doesn’t hide in cargo pockets—it struts. And maybe… just maybe, jiggles a little."
Excellent piece on why guys should wear thongs on the beach!

Re:Fashion piece on men's swimwear Date Posted:10/14/2025 05:36:07Copy HTML The cowboy hat and the thong is a solid look. Idk if this dude is wearing a push out style suit or if he's just gifted because my guy is out there. He looks cool AF though. |

Re:Fashion piece on men's swimwear Date Posted:10/14/2025 09:09:02Copy HTML That is a fabulous article!
“So next time you hit the beach, ask yourself—am I wearing a garment of freedom or a curtain of shame?
Because on this beach, under this sun, in this decade—we don’t cover up. We show up.”
We here wear a garment of freedom. We show up. We are strong, confident and proud. I like that thought. I do have to chuckle a little. I think he stole my style. For many years my beach wear has been a thong and a cowboy hat as my signature style. The big difference is I wish I was as cut as he is in the photos. The photos are beautiful. |
