Re:Fort De Soto Beach

Date Posted:11/22/2009 12:57:48Copy HTML

Went to Ft. De Soto Beach for the first time on Friday 11/20/2009.  I now understand why thongers like this place.  Everyone should. The beach is absolutley stunning.  Even crossing the dunes was no problem.  The water was clear and the surf was mild.  I was at the area that was north of the fort (great directions from the members of this board.) from about 11:30 until 2:30.  Although the weather wasn't great (low 70's and high clouds), I felt very comfortable there.  I wore my red skinz roman thong with "Y" back.  I saw a very nice couple (she in a very  skimpythong. he was in his dork shorts) and one other male thonger.  The couple greeted me was very nicely.  There was also one other couple and one male wearing conventional swimwear .  The only drawback of the entire time was that there was a steady stream of beach walkers (fully clothed) walking to the far north end of the beach which surprised me. They walkers were  unfazed by the thonging.  There was no nudity in display and there were no park rangers checking out the scene all day.

Overall, it was a great day to just hang out a get a little sun.  I will definitely be back.

JC Glad you had a great time, however try to walk the dunes after a week of heavy rain, that is a hassle, and yes there are walkers clothed to the end, and most do not care, but there are some regulars that stare, they are the ones that should walk to the signed area , and then walk back to the concession area.

It is December and there has been a long spell of slightly too cool, slightly too cloudy weather for thonging.  I guess that is normal weather for this time of year, but I am having serious withdrawal symptoms.  I miss thonging a lot!  But lo and behold, the weather has been perfect the last few days.  It must be good at the Fort, but I haven't been able to get away.

Can anybody that has been there lately report?

Replying to a question from Abadon-
At Fort DeSoto park, thongs and gstring swimsuits are fully allowable, and usually a few thongers are found on all the beaches most days. Many thongers park along the road just north of the Fort and proceed to the beach. As you walk further north, there are fewer beachwalkers so you will see beachgoers in smaller coverage swimsuits, thongs, gstrings.

Looks like maybe a fee on the horizon to get into Ft. Desoto.  Almost bet you will see a further reduction in staff. Not sure what is in store for the future of the Park. Would almost bet we have seen it the cleanest we will ever see it.  That happened about 2 years ago.  I expect to see picnic areas starting to get over grown and trees unkept. Maybe it will go back to being a lower traffic beach Park before all is said and done.  Gurantee you there will be no thong ordinance issue over the next few years.

I must say that this weather is not for me when it comes to being on the beach in my suit. I would love to get out and get some sun as my feet are looking pretty white but not going to venture out until the weather returns to my liking. I am looking forward to some great days at the Fort this year, I have been working the gym pretty hard this winter and I will be in great shape come thong season. For all those brave souls hitting the beach this time of year I say hats off but not for me!  See ya when 80+ returns.

I wonder if when it does finally warm up if the crowds are going to be big for a while. Would be cool to see the beach area full of thonged sunbathers. Would be a good time to get a PR shot for future support if they try and eliminate thongs.  I really think charging to get in the Park will help the thongers cause and provide some additional amunition for us.

Until it warms up my thongs are staying in the drawer. But whne it warms up stay out of my way cause I am headed to the beach for some much needed sun.

All this talk of walks on the beach, WHEN is it gonna get hot? Here it if Feb. and not 60 outside. Part of time on the beach in my G-String is the long walks I talk at Fort De Soto. I like the days during the week around early June 88 degrees out and water is perfect temp and tourist are gone home and kids are in school and the beach is quiet my kinda time at the Beach, then suddenly a long leg tan blonde female in a G-String walking towards me with her two other female friends approaches from the south, oh with a beer in hand, now that is a perfect walk on the beach!

Ski,  This is winter wonderland, in the cool evenings I get to wear my jeans and long sleeved shirt. I am not sure how cold it is up on the west coast of Florida, where you are, but but down here in the real South Florida it is currently overcast and windy so only 65 degrees today, I think the forecast is for 67 tomorrow.
For this time of year that's about normal, somewhere between 60 and 80 depending on what weather manages to blow all the way down from the center of the US.
Right now we have some weather, so lows in the night will get down to the 40's, which means Floridians will have their heating on. But day time temps this week should be high 60's to mid 70's.

In the summer, (next month) you want to get to the beach early so as to beet the heat, but in February on days when it's a bit chilly, it is normally better to hit the beach in the afternoon.

Walking at a brisk pace should warm you up. If that don't work do what I do, RUN.  This normally cures any chill within minutes unless there is a particularly mean cold wind from the north. The key is to get out of the wind and into the sunshine, (when there is some) as soon as you finish so you don't get the chills afterward.

By the weakened and early next week it will be back to being very high 70's to low 80's.

I love to walk the beach at Ft Desoto also. It is a beautiful beach and what better way to encourage thonging than by getting out there and doing normal activities in your thong. I truely beleive that we as thongers need to be out there doing the normal things that other people do at the beach.  If you want to swim, then swim. If you want to walk, then walk. You shouldnt just sit on your towel of chair and hide by the dunes. The more we act like it is normal what we are doing the more mainstream it will become. Just my 2 cents.

Tiny  That is very true, but would it be nice if there was some kind of shower facility bathroom, on the posted sign area on north beach, and a little more acceptance near the concessions.

To me a normal day at the beach would be in my G-string. I would not go to the beach and wear board shorts, to much fabric and when you get wet you bring half the gulf water back with you.  I have been going to Fort for so long now that I can remember all the trees that use to line beach. I am looking forward to some great days this summer!

We just got to the area and it looks like the weather might start to cooperate!
Are there more patrols due to Spring Break season?
Any new problems with parking (ticketing) along the road to walk to the thong area?
bigbuzz #477

Re:Fort De Soto Beach

Date Posted:03/09/2010 01:31:19Copy HTML

wj- You can easily see the "no parking" area along the road. Just park south of them. We have not been out since Fall but patrols were scarce due to budget cut backs. They do come down and they rely a lot on the regular walkers to help police the area.  Ladies topless not so much an issue with the walkers. naked men are a big issue. There was one busted a couple of months ago before it got real cold.  A walker went by and he was laying there naked. Not long after that the ranger came down the beach. He was not paying attention and got busted. trespassed for one year.  Did not call the sheriff but took him to the office, took his picture, and got his DL information.

It was Spring last year when the freaks tried to take over and make it sex beach. I hope they go elsewhere this year. The walkers and the self policing help as you take a picture of it and report it. So just enjoy the beach and respect teh same rules as if you were at a European public swimming pool with other people around.

Hi Thonger, was out to thr Fort earlier today and by 2:00 p.m. the wind came in from the water and it was darn cold. Was also there on Saturday with simular conditions. The Park is grand and very burned off from the cold weather so no real signs of uncut grass. Both days didn't see another thonger the entire time I was there, the goof ball was in the dunes on Saturday afternoon with his hat bobbing up and down. More dork shorts walking around, had one camera/naturalist busy clicking away and climbing over the dunes by the Islet
at the end of the north beach. Sun warm but not enough to handle the afternoon winds from the water. My first trip over there and really liked it. Thanks to all that have posted their hints on what to look out for.

HI--- visiting the area this weekend.  I read thru the many posts here, but I'm still not clear if thongs are fully legal at Ft. Desoto ?  I was out at Sunset Beach Pavilion area last year and there was a guy in a thong there. He didn't seemed too concerned, was in and out of the water often throughout the day..  Is this beach truly legal?  Thanks for your help!

Thongs are fine at Ft. Desoto, but they "fit" better at certain areas of the beach than others.

Re:Fort De Soto Beach

Yes that is true. The best spots are the area passed the sign that says no nudity, that is on the north beach away from the parking lot/concession, and I have thonged on east beach, asked the college lifeguards, and there response it is ok, just do not benude, and just enjoy the water and sand. I have also, thonged near the pier concession in that little space as you walk under the pier.

Vegas- May be a bit chilly this weekend. They are talking rainy and windy on Thursday afternoon and into Friday. That means the walkways out to the beach may be under an inch or two of water. Then if it is windy Saturday and winds out of the west it will be quite cool. Water still under 60 degrees. So probably not a good thonging weekend at teh Fort unless you are here from the Artic or Alaska.

Sorry for diverging a back a few months, but this problem of "cruising" is something that has nothing to do with swimwear or beaches, or time of day.  It is a crime of opportunity, really.  I live in Tennessee and have had men leave disgusting sex notes on my while running in baggy shorts.  I sent these on to the local police, and then read several months later in the newspaper about an undercover sting that had rounded up a few of them.  These guys who do this do not refer to themselves as "gay".  Real gay people will completely disown these types who skulk in the shadows of public parks.

Most of these guys who do this have a wife and kids at home who are completely unaware.  Yet, the perps who do these things have no qualms about exposing themselves and hundreds of "partners" to the tremendous risk of STD's, AIDS, etc.  In addition, having a park full of this activity creates a great hunting ground for the Jeffrey Dahmer types -- murderous psychos who exploit their victims' isolation in order to brutalize them.  Quite frankly, I have no qualms about reporting these people.  I hope more of them get arrested and it costs them thousands of dollars.  Maybe then, they will learn a lesson that public property is not their sexual playground.  Thankfully, the few times I've been to Fort Desoto, I've not encountered any of these types.

To avoid these types, be watchful for several types of behavior, such as (1) one guy sitting in a car all by himself, backed in and facing out, (2) you enter an empty parking lot, and a car immediately pulls in right beside you.  (3) any suspicious person -- you must avoid eye contact or conversation with them, otherwise, they might interpret that as a positive signal.

nospam- What the hell are you trying to say? I do not speak tennessean. Are you trying to say that men are looking for people to have sex with by sitting in there car bacled in or leaving notes on your towel? That has nothing to do with wearing a thong on the beach.

Heard the rangers caught and escorted someone off the beach Saturday. Understand it was a male but have not found out if he was naked, wearing a see through thong, or something else related at this time. It does start about this time of year when a number of people show up and think they can do whatever they want to do out there. Rangers rode the beach 4 times on Saturday. Appears they are going to crack down on the bad behavior and maybe harass some thongers in the process.

We were closer, Don't think it had anything to do with coverage, but not sure. We were told by closer folks the ranger was called by the conservation (bird) guy. The ranger fixed a sign up where the beach is covered with brush and leads to the public beach. Likely it says do not go here.

Re:Fort De Soto Beach

mmann- Your thongs will be fine. Just drive past the fort and then park in the grass on the beach side. Walk out and enjoy the beach. You have about 1 mile of beach to select your spot. Would recommend you wear your thong under shorts untiol you get on the beach. Then it depends on where you feel comfortable. You can sit in a very busy area or a very quite area.

Well I went for a walk yesterday afternoon out to the Fort to see how the beach survived the winter waves.  The beach is in great shape at the north end of thong beach, I noticed that the rangers and bird people have closed off the shoreline upto the driftwood area.  Doing this will keep the tourist from walking down from the northside.  I am looking forward to another great summer at the Fort, just came back from Skinz in Clearwater with my new strings to begin the season!!!!

When in this park, you can wear a thong anywhere inside, not just on the beach, right?  Or is it like Daytona where you have to be covered until you actually get to the sand?
