Thonged a few times in Repulse Bay Hong Kong last summer, no problem at all on usual weekday afternoons.  The lifeguards are used to the views of men in thong. They just walk by and every hour when they change shift, act nothing to disturb anybody.
Never seen any local woman in thong but a Russian-model-like blonde girl in leopard print thong bikini one time 3 years ago, but nearly every time I go, I see men in thong.
Please avoid the central part of the beach as there will be a lot of tourists coming by, yelling and shouting and destroying quietness.
Find a spot in the far right end or left end and you can enjoy yourself.

Where can I buy thongs from Hong Kong ?

Re:Hong Kong Thongs?

Now it's quite difficult to find men's thong in Hong Kong. Big international brands are fading out from thong production.
What you can get are small brands like groovin' or iSwim, you can only find them in local smaller department stores.
Therefore the best way to buy is still from the web.

 I agree, better buy online.

Not sure about iSwim, but groovin' thongs are mesh ones

mategear.com has some interesting designs. Thanks for sharing. I like how some of their suits are so low cut that the top of your crack is exposed. I'd buy some of their stuff, but at $28 each, it's kinda pricey!

I love HK even though the last visit was when I was a kid. One of the places I want to relocate to. I am surprised to know there are lot's of people who wear thong/g-strings at the beach there. Are these foreigners? or both locals and non-locals?

From what I have seen so far, only locals wear thong on Hong Kong beaches. Actually most locals and foreigners wear speedos and dork shorts. But there is no problem wearing thong on the beaches, no matter who you are.

Hi will be travelling to Hong Kong. I will be visiting the gym (either California Fitness or Fitness First) and I understand that some of their outlets have swimming pools. Any experience wearing thongs at those pools?

Re:Hong Kong Thongs?

Date Posted:05/01/2014 02:25:44

I've never tried the pools at California Fitness or Fitness First - not even sure where the pool locations for those fitness centres may be.  However, I've swam in hotel pools in Hong Kong as well as the government operated Leisure and Cultural Services Department pools in a gstring or a thong with no problems.  The lifeguards don't mind at all and almost without exception, I've never had a bad experience with other pool patrons.  Having said that, it's not like the pools are teeming with people in gstrings and thongs.  It's definitely a less common sight.

Will be staying one of the hotels at Taikoo. Possible to do thonging?
Thanks

Never been to any hotel pools in Taikoo but I would have thought hotel staff would not care.  Just do it if you are so minded. .  Don't even ask.

Will be on Lantau Island end of this year. Not sure if the weather will be conducive for tanning. Anyway what are the nice beaches on Lantau for nude or gstring tanning?
AVBW21 #118

Re:Hong Kong Thongs?

Date Posted:08/02/2014 07:47:13

Cheung Sha beach on Lantau Island will be nice and quiet for tanning in thong, but it would be illegal to go nude, but I heard someone did it anyway. However, you won't want to be tanning in December, the temperature will be below 20 degrees, wind is cold. Go no later than September.

Was recently in HK for a couple of days and spent some time at the hotel pool at the Sheraton at TST - no problems. One day there was a group of middle-age Americans and they were probably making jokes but they were out of earshot. A couple of German girls in skimpy bikinis asked to set up next to me as the place was pretty busy. Got a nice tan!

I went swimming at the Kowloon park pool where it was mostly family's and teens on a hot day in July. Only suit I had was a thong so I tried it and no problems at all. I wasn't there to show off or anything, just cool off and have a nice swim. Everyone was quite friendly and didn't seem to mind my bare foreign butt

Re:Hong Kong Thongs?

Date Posted:04/05/2015 03:12:04

Been lurking for a long time, first post.  Never wore a thong in public before, just the backyard.  In Hong Kong for the weekend and since it was sunny and warm, I decided to hit the beach.  Based on some of the suggestions here I went out to Repulse Bay on Saturday.  It was pretty busy, so I walked towards South Bay.  On the way past Middle Bay I could see guys sunning on some of the concrete platforms down by the beach, one wearing nothing but a strategically placed corner of a towel.  I got to South Bay and it was pretty busy with families.  I wasn't ready for that and I didn't think they were ready for me either, so I walked back toward Middle Bay. Between South Bay and Middle Bay there was a stairway going down the hill, it had a locked gate but the fence next to it had been broken open so I decided to check it out.  At the bottom was a little platform built just above the water with a couple of conrete tables, there were several guys there - some in thongs, some in nothing at all.  Everyone was pretty chill, but I didn't stay - no shade and I wanted a beach.  At Middle Bay it was all single men and a couple of male pairs, except for one family.  All the guys were lying out in Speedos just baking in the sun.  I found some shade, laid out my towel, and went for it.  After that first "reveal" it felt perfectly natural.  Nobody bothered me, a few guys walked past but that was it.  I spent a few hours there sunning, swimming to cool off  from time to time, and reading.  When it was time to leave I just walked down the length of the beach to the showers to get the salt and sand off before dressing and leaving.  A great day.
Sunday I went out to Lamma Island.  I wore my smallest thong - more of a G string, and didn't bring anything else so I couldn't chicken out.  I took the ferry to Sok Kwu Wan, it was very crowded.  From the ferry I walked the trail up and over the hill to Tung O to check out the beach there.  It was about a 40 minute hike, very hot, I was glad I had brought a couple of water bottles.  The beach at Tung O was disappointing - not particularly attractive, no shade, and lots of garbage in the water.  Another 10 minutes walking brought me to Sham Wan, which is a beautiful spot. Unfortunately there was no shade, and a lot of trash washed up on the beach - mostly plastic.  So sad. So I walked back up over the hill to Sok Kwu Wan, and then over to Lo Shing beach.  Lo Shing is pristine, with changing rooms, showers, life guards, etc.  I refilled my water bottles at the cooler and walked to the right where there are some trees shading the beach.  It wasn't crowded, but there were a lot of people there, no surprise on such a beautiful day.  Mostly non-Chinese people, a lot of Europeans judging by the accents and languages I heard.  I found a spot under the trees, hung my shirt on a branch, took off my shorts, and laid out my towel. After two hours of walking up and down the hills I was pretty hot so I just sat in the shade for a while drinking cold water.  Then I moved into the sun, got hot again, and went swimming.  To get from where I was to the enclosed swimming area I had to walk toward the center of the beach so I was pretty much showing off to everyone, but I decided that I wasn't going to be self conscious about what I was (or rather wasn't) wearing and just did it.  I stayed most of the day there, reading, sunning, swimming, and girl watching.  No reaction from anyone, except the two young British women who had set up right in front of my towel while I was in the water, they did a bit of a double take when I came walking back to my towel.  I just smiled and lay down on my front.
I really enjoyed the whole experience, not a single negative reaction.  Hong Kong people seem pretty relaxed about minimal swimwear.

Our sister Facebook site is finally up. The Hong Kong Suntanners Thongers United is finally up. Abbreviated as

Hk-STU. It is a wonderful community for the new Hong Kongers to show the region what they are made of.

Some house rules:

1. Do not send private chats to other members in the group unless you know each other personally. But you can post in the group page if you want.

2. Do not ask for any pictures from anyone in the group. It would be considered as harassing. But you can post your own pictures on the group subject to the administrator censorship.

If all the house rules are followed, then everyone will enjoy their stay here and have a great time.

Hi, I'm Chinese American, I was just on a wonderful 2 week vacation in Hong Kong during June 2015, I relaxed and enjoyed wearing my male sheer Skinzwear M57 (Micro Rio) and M55 (G-String) swimsuits at the public Kowloon Park Pool almost every day. Deliciousness tanning in the sun! I primarily stayed in the upper deep pool and lounge chairs. No issues at all. What a deal for about US$2 for each session.
Enjoy!

Went to Big Wave Bay last Wednesday and was in my orange g-string... Very hot weather. Maybe because of the summer break, the beach had surprisingly quite amount of ppl. As usual, I am the only one in thong, to be specific in g-string. Just saw one Asian girl in a brazilian back.

Been to Repulse Bay a few times this summer. Either myself being the only thonger, or just one or two more male thongers.
Came across one quite fit looking dark skinned girl (not local Chinese) in tiny thong sunning her bump quite boldly at the forward part nearer to the sea.
As usual, nothing happened while I thonged, perhaps some giggles from teenage girls enjoying their summer holidays, they are still young and I think they will enjoy it later.

It is really difficult to get thong underwear and swimwear from physical shops in Hong Kong, nearly zero. All my thongs are bought online.

Had a brief Autumn tanning session in Repulse bay again a couple of weeks ago. Saw a man wearing g string tanning tummy facing down showing almost his body to everyone, and the Filipino housemaid groups 3 feet away from him seemed don't care. Wore my narrow sided bulge thong from iSwim and enjoyed a quiet afternoon. A group of 3 British, 2 men and 1 woman in their 30s played frisbee 10 feet away and one of the men talked to that good looking blonde girl wearing bikini without the strap (and she kept pulling the tube top up as she ran around) : there's a thong man ! And he sang the lines of Thong Song : thong tho tho tho thong. The girl answered : yeah I know. And they played for another 15 minutes or so afterwards. I thought the guy would throw the frisbee to my way on purpose to teasingly make the girl come to my side to pick up the disc, but anyway he didn't.  I think this was the occasion that other people around me gave the biggest reactions so far. I just sat there and looked at the girl running around enjoyed the sight of  her body.

While I was lying in my thong (but not showing my butt), with my face covered by a small towel because of the sunlight, I heard some jumping sound across my head. It was a teenage girl that I saw her approaching me few minutes ago jumping over my head from left to right and then right to left. I felt some sand was flipped to my face and neck as she jumped across. I think she thought I was asleep. I don't know why she did that, maybe she thought I was weird to wear very skimpy outfit so she wanted to tease me, or simply make some fun out of that. Actually I think it is OK as she did not hurt anybody, but I think I should have woke up at that moment to see what she would react.

I'm off to HK and will have all day Sunday to go to the beach. Is it still acceptable in Repulse Bay or Middle Bay to wear a thong or G-string?
AVBW21 #141

Re:Hong Kong Thongs?

Yes. Surely you can wear your thong or g string on those beaches.  The weather will be quite good this Sunday, and it is a holiday for domestic helpers too, it is expected to be crowded so do arrive before noon to secure a good spot under a tree.

Thanks AVBW21. Traveling from Causeway Bay, is the best way the GMB40 bus? And then a walk? I guessing Moddle Bay might be quieter
AVBW21 #143

Re:Hong Kong Thongs?

Date Posted:06/30/2017 04:45:07

If you have to travel from causeway bay, GMB40 is one of the way but I don't like it very much as there are always long queue on holiday. Take New World First Bus service 65 outside of Hysan Place would be better. But I reckon the quickest way is to take Citybus 260 from Central Exchange Square. Enjoy thonging in Hong Kong.
