IL Beach State Pk. was nearly made virtually inaccessible only just last wk- (bikes & foot traffic only) only a VERY small pkg lot for just a few cars- but the state senator who lives nearby flexed the political muscle to keep it open to everybody (has a 1000+ car lot which is brand new)

So to all & sundry in WI & IL- we better use it or possibly lose it! Not too many spots like it in the immediate area... Now if only the northeast wind would just die down a little! Cooler by the lake can be an understatement at times Check it out when it warms up!

Hi, okeemm
The Illinois Beach State Park is my most favourite place for thonging in Illinois, after Hollywood Beach in Chicago. Unfortunately being only off from school and work on Sundays, this year I haven't had a chance to bask in the sun over there because of the bad weather on weekends. And getting there is also a problem for me.
Anyway, I'd like to submit a link with the map of that state park so that the others interested could get there with ease. Here it is (PDF format though - you have to have Acrobate Reader installed):

http://dnr.state.il.us/lands/Landmgt/PDF%27s/illinoisbeach.pdf

The thong friendly beach is in the South Unit of the park, at the mouth of Dead River. We usually park a car at the parking lot next to Illinois Beach Resort & Conference Center and walk down along the beach towards Dead River's mouth. The closer to it you are the more people in thongs you can spot. I didn't explore the beach south of Dead River though as we spread our towels couple of hundreds meters north of it.

All in all this is my recommended place for tanning in thongs.

Abadon

PS
General info about that state park you can find at:

http://dnr.state.il.us/lands/Landmgt/PARKS/R2/ILBEACH.HTM

Hi to Abadon & all,
Good thing you got a pic of the lookout tower when you did as it has since been taken down as it actually was not maintained for many yrs. & I am sure the state feared a lawsuit at some point; such are the times...
As for the Dead River, anything but that due to all the rain lately as you might expect, wow- lotsa water here!
Thonging still good at this spot, weather permitting as is Hollywood in the city- was at several other beaches last wknd. in Chgo. proper & was not just the only guy, but the only one in a thong- m or f- gay or straight- it is not at all good within city limits at present, even at Oak St! (This is the big tourist beach here & in the past, thongs were not at all uncommon on visitors)
Alright, at some point the rain will subside & then off to the beach for us- Good summer to everyone!

I thought some time ago I read a post about Illinois Beach State Park in Zion saying you could find a spot there and go nude.  Does anyone know about this or is a thong the least you can wear.  I plan on visiting this beach this coming Saturday, July 16 and haven't decided which thong to wear on the beach area around the Dead River.  Has anyone been there lately and are the thongs mostly moderate or very skimpy that you've seen there?  Thanks

Also, is there any beach around Milwaukee you can wear a thong?

Happy summer to all.,

& it has been a great one so far this yr. w/more 2 come- well alright! Sorry to say there are no nude spots at all- many yrs. ago I hear this was not verboten as the state did not own all of it.

Latest buzz here are the rangers trying to keep all & sundry at Lk. Mich. shore itself instead of the Dead River banks- by & large they are cool about it & as long as you are not nude will not give anyone a hard time. So you can wear whatever you want, but do have to wear something.

If you are coming down here from Milwaukee, check the wind directions in Waukegan IL for latest info as the variations can be surprising sometimes- any westerly wind at this location will make for a miserable day here as the insects will have a feast! If this is the case go down to Hollywood Beach in Chicago (I know, 50 more miles!) where it is not at all affected by the wind.

In all my yrs. at Bradford in Milwaukee, I only saw 1 guy in a thong, the midwest is a little conservative, no? Besides Zion & H'wood in Chgo, I know of no others. Wanna get out to one or the other myself on Sat, so I'll be checking the weather as well!

   Happy thonging!

Has anyone been here lately?  I haven't be to the beach (south end) in some time (years) and was wondering if thongs, g-strings, toplessness is still OK.  What are the beach conditions like?  I'm planning on driving down from Wisconsin this Saturday.

Was there this past weekend.  Nothing's changed.  The rangers just drive by if you're wearing thongs, g-strings, etc.  Toplessness is OK with most beach-goers as long as you're not in a crowd of kids, but the rangers still don't accept it, so you have to exercise some discretion.

Thongs seem to be OK everywhere on the beach, but the "regulars" tend to stay south of the resort section

(this post is repetitive because it was moved here by JM Runs from another newly started tread. Unfortunately, I can't remove it)

I wore thongs on this beach several times and saw others (also couples) wearing very skimpy swimsuits (thongs, g-strings) too. There are actually two sections of the park. I visited the one in the south. Didn't hang out near the parking lot and the resort/park office building (this area is more family oriented and more crowded) but always headed more south, close to the mouth of Dead River.

My wife have been going to Ill Beach State park for about 15 years now, both of us have never worn anything other than a thong or g-string.  I've seen thongs on the entire beach (north and south of the resort), but it is more common south of the resort.  Rangers have not had an issue as long as "all the essentials" are covered.  I've walked the length of the beach in a g-string and had the rangers come up from behind on their ATV's - never had a problem.  Some women will even go topless; I've never seen an issue raised by a beach-goer, but the rangers may ticket if she doesn't have the sense to roll over onto her stomach while they're in the area.  Nudity will sometimes happen in the more sesserted areas, but you'll get ejected for the season if you're caught by a ranger.  Overall a nice experience as long as you use common sense

hi, we usually come to the il state beach by boat and anchor at the far far south end.  unless there is another boat the beach is deserted.  so we have the option of nude or thongs.  we walk with thongs and have been seen twice a day for years by sheriffs boat with a wave from the officers aboard.  we have never run into the rangers tho.  sunlizzard hopefully we will see you at the beach someday.  do you have a beach umbrella or other marking device?  i will post a pic of our boat for you to keep an eye out for.  bobby

Hmmm I must have been there on an off-day.  In past visits there's always been thong wearers and some women doing the top free thing near the river. However last my last trip, (June 09) the river area was empty. Not knowing what the status was, I stayed in my shorts and hung out a while.  Didn't see a soul except a ranger, so I left after an hour.  On a lark I decided to check out the north end of the park by the power plant. . Whoa! it was like a whole different beach with about 20 people (mixed gender) in thongs.

It will most likely be this upcoming Labor Day weekend, although, I'm not sure what day. We've been kicking around the idea of going to Zion or the city beaches, but SunLizzerd reminded me that Zion is a lot more laid back.

We'll keep an eye peeled for your boat. You can look for the 50 something couple with a multi-colored striped umbrella and an orange beach blanket.

We have been going up to Ill. Beach for alot of years.  Flies are bad whenever the wind is out of the west.  I use Avon Skin-so-soft bath oil to eliminate the problem.  Apparently it has citronella oil in it.  Seems to work for me.  It's been relatively quiet this year, but that's ok because the rangers patrol less.  Seems to be more folks in thongs and g-strings than in recent years, and some topless.  Hope to see you there

Started wearing a speedo to the beach this summer. When I get a tan base I plan to make it up to Zion (for the first time) and catch up on some rays wearing a thong (first time in public)

Is there a difference between a regular thong and a swim thong? From what I can tell - there isn't

I did see the rangers out and took the oppurtunity to make absolutely sure a g-string was legal cuz just cuz others do it don't make it legal right. he said "what you're wearing is fine" But i think people still complain. If i go back though i'd definitely wear at least a bikini with a lean back, and hang out nearer to the crowded beach. I get lots of compliments from th ladies and have a way better day anyway. getting the full sun w. a string or thong isnt worth sunbathing secluded and worrying about offending people

I recently had my first experience wearing a thong at IL Beach State Park. I'm a marathon runner, and am always on the lookout for unique, fun places to run, so I decided to run my miles on the park trails and cool off and recover by hanging out on the beach. I ran many of my miles wearing nothing but a speedo and my running shoes, with no onlookers to worry about, which felt nice.
Once I was done with my run and ready to go to the beach, I was too tired to walk very far south to where I had run earlier and noticed a total lack of humanity. I ended up setting up near a few other thong-wearers who were much older (I'm in my 20s). I was hoping to have a more secluded experience as my first stab at thonging, but, as I said, I was too tired to go where that would be possible. I was immediately approached by a fully-clothed man who hit on me, which felt very uncomfortable -- he was disappointed to learn that I'm straight and married. Another fully-clothed man soon sat down right next to me, and remained in the same place, doing nothing, for what seemed like 45 minutes. I eventually felt pretty uncomfortable with this and decided to walk farther south to try to find a more secluded place. I soon found myself being approached by another man in a thong and quickly packed up my stuff and left.
I tried to convey, by my location and body language, that I was hoping to be left alone, but that message didn't seem to get through to the other folks at the beach. If I go again, I'll head waaay south, where I know I'll have a spot to myself. Heck, if I'm far enough south, I'll just go nude.

Dudemanbro - I don't know this beach, but obviously the section you selected is a common gay cruising zone.
When I started thonging I stayed well away from the gay beach and thonged in a more densely populated straight beach. It takes more courage but you will feel a lot more comfortable when not being hit on by somewhat creepy gay men.

I suggest you march right up to a single women, or even better a women with very young children, and ask if she minds if you can lay out by her, because you want to wear a thong but don't want strange gay men hitting on you.  This works.

Stayed at the beach hotel Tuesday night of this week and was so looking forward to some thong time on the beach so I scheduled my appointments for the morning. Given it is past labor day the beach right by the hotel was not that busy but we walked south a little bit to get away from the families. I didnt notice as I walked but as soon as I stripped down to my thong and spread out the towel the flies were all over us.

We tried going in the water but then they were just all over our head and arms so we gave up. We ended up having a nice time at the hotel pool but without the sun on our buns.

Not chilly at all when the sun peaked out.  A  scant 2 or 3 people bundled in jackets did not venture all the way to the south end. Binocs come in handy for the distant beach goers.

Well, after asking ThongBoard about IL Beach State Park a few times this year and getting no answer, I finally found the time to head up there myself this past Saturday, and had a wonderful time.
<p>When I first got there, around noon, I hiked the Dunes Trail to the southernmost entrance to the beach, near the mouth of the Dead River. Hoping to quickly strip down to my thong, I was a little thrown off to see a huge group of families all set up right there. I walked a little bit south of them and laid my towel down, and less than 15 minutes later, they were all packing up to leave -- I'd imagine such a large group is fairly rare for this part of the beach, as none came for the rest of the day, and it was a beautiful Saturday in August.
<p>I spent the next couple of hours in a secluded spot south of the Dead River in my thong, reading, napping, swimming, etc., and generally having a great, relaxing time. There was another guy about 200 feet north of me -- I think he may have been in a thong, but I wasn't close enough to see, and we left each other alone. From time to time, others would enter the beach from the trail and hang out for a bit, but they were far enough away that I didn't feel too self-conscious. At one point there was a guy walking along the dunes who appeared to either be in a thong or naked; he wandered around aimlessly for a little bit and didn't settle down anywhere.
<p>I particularly enjoy solitude, so I wanted to explore even further south, but there are signs up restricting access to the beach beyond a certain point, due to it being a protected habitat for certain species. I did, however, see two teen boys walk into that section and come back probably an hour later, so they obviously didn't run into any trouble doing so. I stayed north of the signs, so as to avoid any trouble, but I do wonder whether anyone has actually been hassled by a ranger for going past the signs... I can't imagine it's a huge priority for the park, but who knows.
<p>After a while, the biting flies started getting very bad -- I don't know why they left me alone for the first couple of hours -- and I packed up my things and walked north along the beach all of the way to the resort. On my walk, I saw a few other groups of people, but very few in all. There was one man in a thong standing up right against the dunes, as if he were a sentry patrolling the beach, a very curious sight indeed. I'm sure he made folks feel uncomfortable, and I don't know shy he chose that stance over a relaxing spot on the beach.
<p>After refilling my water bottle at the Nature Center, I still wasn't ready to head home, and returned to the Dead River trail. This time, I tested my resolve and hiked parts of the trail in my thong, and even a little bit naked, always keeping my shorts in my hand. I did run into a few hikers, but I was able to spot their heads and cover myself up before anyone saw me. I then returned back to the beach for a little longer, and found that I had the entire section south of the Dead River to myself -- no one else in sight, except for one guy who passed by twice, power-walking in what appeared to be Calvin Klein briefs. So I spent even more time laying out, walking up and down the beach, and swimming in my thong. I eventually left my thong on the sand and went skinny-dipping, which felt great. However, the biting flies were still out in full force, so I could only enjoy the beach for so long.
<p>Overall I had an amazing time at ILBSP and would recommend it to people who prefer to wear thongs in nature and solitude. The hiking trails and wide open beachfront are absolutely serene (when the flies aren't biting you, that is).

I've been going to Illinois Beach State park since the 90's.  I always wear a g-string and have had no real issues.  Rangers just drive by and wave even if I'm walking down the beach.
As far as the flies, which seem to come out if there's wind out of the east, use Avon Skin-So-Soft bath oil (Original scent).  It has citronella oil in it which repels the flies.  Simply spray or rub it on any exposed skin.  I heard about it from a friend that goes hunting alot; tried it and it works

We went to Illinois Beach State Park for a long weekend (9th-12th Aug). Thursday my wife wore a Skinzwear cheeky bathing suit and I my Skinzwear Stuffit g-string. We parked by the nature center and took that path to the beach. Once out on the beach we moved about 50 ft south of the walking path and proceeded to set-up. Of course I forgot about the wind directions and inside of 5 minutes the black biting flies found us. Since we had all weekend, we bailed. Friday the wind was NE off the lake and it was night and day difference with the flies. Again we set up just off the path and wore our Skinzwear swimwear. Nobody pointed, laughed, or threatened to call the rangers so I guess they've become fairly common there, although my wife and I were the only people I saw wearing anything brief. Saturday morning the wind was out of the east and again no flies were found. Being the weekend there were more people, but again it was an easy experience. We even swam in the lake walking past families on their blankets. No one said a word to us. We left around noon to head off to the Renaissance Faire in Wisconsin. Sunday morning when we left to go home, we decided on one last trip (unplanned) to the beach. My wife packed our bathing suits away when we left the hotel. I was wearing a Joe Synder Bulge so figured.. why not and just wore that. She stayed in her shorts and tube top. Once again we were just off the foot path and everybody that came down to the beach from the nature center parking lot had to pass us. There no one else in thongs but again several women had cheeky suits. Because I had the JS bulge I kept to the blanket and didn't wander around like I had in previous days. Finally I decided to flip to get some sun on my front. I read from my Kindle and dozed for a bit and woke to the sounds of a family setting up right about 15 feet away from us. Mom and daughters had cheeky suits and father/sons had Speedo-style briefs on. Listening to them talking I'm going to go with eastern European. Obviously my suit didn't phase them out since hey set up next to us All in all I'd say the Illinois Beach State Park is minimal suit friendly, but I wish more people would take advantage of it.
