Re:Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore - Northwest Indiana, 50m SE of Chicago

Date Posted:09/01/2014 02:42:41

My wife and I spent yesterday afternoon on Kemil Beach.  We anchored offshore and waded in to the beach.  She wore nothing but a TangaLand G-string and a tank top.  As we waded into shore the water got deeper, so her top got wet...  By the time we got to shore, she was definitely sporting a completely transparent white T-shirt!

I left her on the beach laying out on her towel with the wet and transparent fabric clinging to her body.  I returned to the boat to get her a dry top, but I got an idea.  I gathered up a few of her thongs and some different sexy tops and did a photo shoot with her out on the beach. She changed bottoms under a towel, but pretty much would just sit up and discretely pull off one top and change into another.

We had anchored a ways past the populated area of the beach Southwest of the main entrance, so there were some people who walked past us, but the nearest people who were laying out were probably 25 to 30 yards away.  We saw no other thongers (I was in an aussieBum bikini).  She wore nothing but G-strings and several different sheer and open-armholed tank tops or a sheer white underwire Wicked Weasel bikini top.  She walked down to cool off in the lake multiple times in a G-string and the sheer bikini top while multiple people walked past.

When we were done with the photo shoot, she just left the top off altogether and laid out topless as multiple people walked back and forth down the beach 25 feet from her as she lounged in only her tiny G-string. She got a few looks, but no one said anything or made a big deal of either her thong or her bare chest.

In our experience, we know of a few friends who wear thongs on this beach, but we've never seen others thonging there.  Regardless, We've never had any problems wearing minimal swimwear there or with her being openly topless.  Granted, we are sensitive to others by laying our towels down away from the populated areas, but when people pass by her thonged butt or bare breasts, she's never received anything but a few stares or some guys making multiple passes back and forth up and down the beach to get a view.  ;)

Unfortunately, the other couple wasn't able to join us at all over Memorial Day weekend.  Apparently, his grandfather passed, so they were understandably not able to make it out for any fun.

Regardless, we got one decent day out of our Memorial Day weekend.  We cruised down to Kemil Beach, but the water was cold and she wouldn't wade into shore.  I got in a couple times to test the depth, but I couldn't blame her for not wanting to brave it yet.

So we spent all afternoon on the boat anchored about 15 yards offshore.  She was in a Wicked Weasel Reef thong bikini and she ditched the top for most of the time we were there.  I wore a Mategear bikini.  We were completely visible from the beach and there was a fair amount of traffic walking past, so her bare buns and my exposed crack were definitely on display.

Went to Central Beach yesterday (Friday) It was closed due to high water so we decided to go to Kimel.  Haven''t been there in ages and fortunately we found a parking space.  The beach was pretty packed (compared to how central usually is) so we walked west past the crowd.  I wore my Skinzwear m55 stuffit but brought a sunseeker rio along as a plan-b, just in case the beach was too crowded. My wife wore a regular bikini.

Saw one woman wearing rio bottoms and a tiny top (and a huge hat), but no one else in small swimwear.
Overall a nice day although the sand flies came out about two and chased us home.

@ JayByrd I hear central could be permitly closed for good which is making Kimel so crowded. We usually park in the Dunbar parking lot and then ride the bikes pretty much to the end and set up our spot. Can pretty much wear anything

@krampop1 thanks for the heads up on Central. That's too bad because I really liked that beach. We'll have to consider the Dunbar parking. I don't mind a little walking to escape the crowds, but the missus is less enthusiastic about it.

Is Central Beach at Mount Baldy?  That's the only beach I've heard of that may be closed permanently due to the hazardous conditions.I still need to figure out where you and HotRachel go, Krampop.  The way I understand it, you go to the opposite side of Kemil from where we go.  We always go to the southwest side of the main Kemil Beach.  Do you go northeast?  Where is the Dunbar parking?  Is that the first public parking area if you keep driving past the Kemil Beach parking about a mile on the lake side of the road?

Central beach is next to Mt Baldy and closed because the water is so high there is almost no beach left. We either park at Dunbar or further north by the pavilion parking then we get on our bikes and ride 2-3 miles to the very end and you will see a bunch of signs that say GOV property no trespassing etc etc .. We ignore all that walk our bikes thru the trees and sand and come out to a huge dune and no one around. It's actually the very end of central but no one goes down there and we usually get some nude sun bathing in. Hope this helps :)

Recently I've been visiting the Miller area of Gary.  Referred to as Miller Beach, it is comprised of Lake Street beach  (west part) and Marquette Park beach  (east part). On Lake Street side I've worn some brief swimsuits but haven't seen any thongs. You have to walk west of parking lot about 3/4 mile away from young families.

We were at Kemil Beach on Thursday.  She was in a sheer Wicked Weasel thong.  I wore thin running shorts with the liner cut out to walk from the parking lot to the beach.  We walked Southwest until we were well beyond anyone else.  I changed into an N2N swim thong on the beach, but ditched it after a while.  I laid out nude for about an hour and a half.  Had to put the thong back on a few times for people walking past, but each time I laid on my stomach with my thonged ass up.  I think it was pretty obvious that I had had to dress as I saw them coming, but no one seemed to care.  No one seemed to mind my wife and I laying out in full view on the beach in thongs.  I got the feeling that no one would have even minded if I had remained nude as they walked by.

Went to Kemil today.  Wore a koala suit with a rio back, was there in the morning. Literally had the beach to ourselves for a solid hour. Even after a while, only a few others were there. Got good sun, played catch, enjoyed warm water. Virtually no insects to speak of. Great spot to go minimal!

I walked the Southwestern side of Kemil Beach last Friday afternoon wearing a Mategear mini bikini.  (It's extremely low cut in both the front and the back.  The front barely covers the top of my shaft, and sometimes it rides down to actually reveal the base of my shaft.  The back cups the bottom of my cheeks, but only covers about the bottom half of my ass.  https://mategear.com/collections/swimwear-mini-without-lining-designer-mini-bikinis/products/extremely-sexy-mini-bikini-in-sik?variant=16903204870)  I walked about 2 to 3 miles down the beach in nothing but this minimal style suit.  The beach isn't crowded in this area, but I passed probably 15 people without comment or issue.
On my return walk, I saw a guy exiting the water in a thong, but everyone else I saw had been wearing standard swimwear.

The wife and I were at Kemil Beach last weekend.  The weather was great, but the Japanese beetles were swarming.  They don't bite, but my wife was completely obsessed with not allowing them to land on her.
We were there for probably about 3 hours, during which she wore a Wicked Weasel Sailor Stripe thong bottom with no top.  She had worn only a short, sheer coverup over her thong bikini for the walk from the parking area. I wore sheer mesh N2N running shorts for the walk, and a MateGear mini bikini once we found our spot.  I went fully nude for about an hour.  While we were there, only 3 people walked past us.  She remained fully topless on her back.  (I still had the bikini on when the people walked past.)  The walkers absolutely saw her bare breasts, but they all just kept walking.  No one gawked or stared.
At one point, I needed to rinse the sand off, so I walked nude down to the water and waded into the lake.  The water was a reported 67 degrees, and I was almost comfortable completely submerging to rinse well.  I had carried my mini bikini into the water with me just in case I needed it.  Wouldn't you know it that at the time I was about to leave the water, a jogger came by, so I did put my suit on to exit the water in front of him.
The beach afternoon was perfect except for the Japanese beetles.  We've never had this problem before.  Usually, the problem is the awful biting flies, but they can be deterred with bug spray.  The beetles didn't seem to mind the bug spray at all.  I was able to essentially ignore them, but my wife was in a constant beetle battle!  I'm guessing that it may have just been a seasonal thing and that the beetles are active like this for only a short time since we've never experienced the Japanese beetle swarms before.

Went there last week on Wednesday.  I was the only thong, but another guy about 30 yards away was in a tiny bikini. The lake was calm, flies weren't too bad. The kids and I had a great time. A bit busier given it was the day after July 4th. As I laid out in my thong, a few folks walked by, glances, but no stares or comments. A real nice day!

We went to Kemil today.  Not too crowded, but definitely not weekday empty. I wore my Skinz Sunseeker Rio in goldenrod.  That's a mesh type fabric but we were back from the water so no one got close enough to see. My wife doesn't walk too easily on sand so we didn't venture too far west of the entrance point.

Like nautirogue mentioned, the Japanese beetles were swarming which kinda freaked the wife out.  Thankfully they don't bite.

I've been there a dozen times and I have never seen even a normal small bikini... just giant, granny panty bottoms on women and dork shorts on men...    It's hard to see anyone from all the trash on the beaches...

I saw the people who were supposed to be collecting trash, and they might have been volunteers, but they were sitting around talking for hours... part of the time in the pickup truck they were to use for collecting trash....  while all of the trash cans looked like they had been overfilled weeks in the past.

BTW, I saw a comment on here about topless sunning at Central Beach.  Is it common there?  Where in the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore is topless sunning and minimal swimwear most common?

Re:Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore - Northwest Indiana, 50m SE of Chicago

We go to Central, I have seen other minimal swimwear on occasion, never frequently.  Central works well for us mostly just because it's closer really!  Recent erosion has left the beach narrow in places.  That works as a benefit as its unlikely rangers will patrol and it tends to weed out the people likely to complain.  Kemil is also nice, just happens to be a few minutes further down the road.  Kemil is basically our backup if Central parking is full

Thanks for the info, Cingularity!  We'll keep Central as the same kind of backup if Kemil's parking lot is full.  That's a really good idea, since the parking lots do tend to fill up on the weekends.

I was at Kemil Beach on Friday.  Lots of board shorts on the guys, but a lot of cheeky bikinis on the women.  I wore a Mategear ultra swim pouch bikini with a V-front.  This style is unusual for Mategear, in that the back covers almost everything.  Only the top of my crack was showing, but the V-front leaves little to the imagination.  It rides as low as you can go without showing shaft.  My landing strip was on full display for everyone walking by.

I'll be out again today.

Re:Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore - Northwest Indiana, 50m SE of Chicago

Date Posted:07/13/2018 12:55:22

My first negative experience at Kemil Beach:
Two weeks ago, I had boated to Kemil Beach, anchored offshore, and waded in to the beach.  I started out in a Koala swimsuit that was kind of half bikini/half thong.  The back is a large triangle with a string that connects to the front causing the rear triangle to look like a wedgied bikini.  After a while, I changed into a Mategear G-string.  I was laying out buns-up when I heard an engine.  I looked up and saw an ATV coming down the beach and I figured it's obviously a CO.  He kept on going past me, but about half an hour later another ATV headed towards me.  (After the previous encounter, I had gotten less brave in the G-string and changed back into the skimpy-back Koala bikini.)  This time the ATV rider was a lifeguard, and he was your stereotypical image of what you imagine when you think lifeguard.  He was probably 28, deeply bronzed skin, and exceptionally fit... but in board shorts.  This guy was hot!

Regardless, he stopped in front of me and was polite, but he told me that this is a park area and it's not permitted for me to anchor my boat here.  He gave me 5 minutes to pack up and leave.

Well, I was pretty sure that his statement of the rules was not accurate as we have been anchoring off Kemil Beach for years, we have seen many others do the same, and this was probably at least a mile from the formal public swimming area of Kemil Beach.  It didn't matter.  I wasn't in the mood to argue with the hottie.

A few days later, though, I did send an email through the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore Web site's "Contact Us" link asking if it is permissible to anchor off Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore beaches.  The reply was that yes, we can anchor off the beach as long as we stay away from the lifeguarded beach areas at West Beach and the Indiana Dunes State Park.

So, the hot lifeguard told a little white lie to get my thonged ass off his beach.  It's not going to keep my wife and I from continuing to do the same in the future.  And now, I have an email from nps.gov stating that we are permitted to anchor off the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore beaches in non-lifeguarded areas.  Likely, the issue had been a single guy laying out in a G-string.  We tend to get ignored when it's my wife and I laying out in minimal swimwear together.

Re:Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore - Northwest Indiana, 50m SE of Chicago

This is almost exactly why we prefer Central Beach a bit east of Kemil.  The beach(due to recent erosion) has gotten narrow enough in places and has downed trees that completely prevent ATV traffic.  We've seen the occasional ranger walking but its very seldom given the very out of the way area of the beach.  And of course, walking rangers can be seen from very far off given they are the only folks on the beach wearing boots!  We've never gotten grief in any case.

Re:Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore - Northwest Indiana, 50m SE of Chicago

Date Posted:07/13/2018 01:48:38

You are making an assumption that he knew the rules and was lying to you because you were wearing a thong. It is quite possible he had been incorrectly instructed or trained.

However you are correct, there is less grief when it is a couple in thongs rather than a single man.  Also, single men who are avoiding the more public areas and trying to be discrete, or hidden, are often suspected of being up to no good.  Unfortunately not an unreasonable assumption because some are just using parks for hookups.

Keep a copy of the email reply in a ziplock bag on the boat. If you have the same problem in future you can tell the lifeguard you have checked with park management and you are allowed to bring your boat in anywhere that is not a designated lifeguarded swimming area. Know you know, you can boat more confidently.

And you're right, JM.  single guys avoiding public areas are usually looking to be nude or be nude and hook up.  However, I wasn't avoiding any public area.  I was a long ways down the beach from the main Kemil entrance, but I was right out on the beach in full view of anyone passing by at the shoreline.  I was just avoiding the majority of the public so I could lay out in peace and relax while minding my own business.

I'd say somewhere there abouts usually, between the 2 parks (Mt Baldy and Central) Far enough from either park entrance so that you have reasonable privacy.  We often see boats as well so it's not an uncommon place to park.

That is a very good map of the area!
So far as I know, Kemil beach is VERY SMALL, probably a max of about 1/3 mile long..  About 20 yards west of the main Kemil road (East State Park Boundary Rd) is a fence that you can see from the parking lot and from the "walking zone" but not from the lake shore.. A ranger once told me that west of that fence is Indiana Dunes State Park.  So any boating west of the main entrance of Kemil beach is Indiana Dunes State Park territory and that extends almost 3 miles west..  The next beach east of Kemil is Dunbar beach and is about 1/3 mile east of Kemil at a parking lot..
