The last couple of hot weeks I visited Sheaperds Chine beach on the west of the island there were approx 12 people, consisting two nudest couples and six thong wearing males., I hope this sets a trend.

It is not a bad beach with fairly easy access and parking on the Military road. When you get toto the beach from the path most people turn left backtowards Chale, this side is sandy, and better for a dip.  Also Yaverland/Culver beach at Sandown has more than the occasional thong wearer most just before the nudist section, by the brown rocks. This is proberly the sunnyest beach on the Isle of Wight, but , gets a bit busy with dogy walkers.

I've been thonging on Portsmouth beach the last couple of summers. There's a nudist section up at Eastney, which has the most sand, and is slightly less crowded. I've recently worn a G-string there without any hassle, but probably would stick to a more conventional thong elsewhere on the beach. Anyone know anything about the Witterings/Bracklesham Bay?

I'm working on contract on the IOW, and sometimes use the spa at The Heights weekday evenings. I usually wear my Joe Snyder Capri or similar, and get no negative reaction at all, but I have thought about a thong. Anyone else been to this spa in a thong?

Me again!! I'm suggesting that we try and form a thong evening at the Heigths Spa one weekday evening. If it's successful, maybe we could venture to the swimming pool eventually. And ideally, we need some ladies to join, I always fee that thongs are more acceptable with a mixed group.

I have worn my JS Capri on the beach at Shanklin & just got on with swimming & sunning.

I have stripped off at Luccombe Chine beach (quite a scraamble to get down there but worth it) and also g-stringed at Rocken End, SW end of Blackgang - park at Windy  Gap car park - which is National Trust property.

I think you might just get away with a thong at the Hights but a G string might be pushing your luck, are you still on the Island ? perhaps we could meet up, strength in numbers ?
Interested on the comments about Luccombe, I would like more details, this year I also thonged near Shanklyn at Lake,  buy the sailing club at Yaverland and G stringed on the beach at Brightstone with no problems.
All comments appreciated.

No, not on the island - just a visitor. Footpath to Luccombe Chine "officially" closed for repairs but I - & others - had no difficulty in getting down to the beach. Not a lot of beach at HW spring tides! My favourite site at Shanklin is down the Appley steps & turn right - less crowded. Apart from capri also worn a minimal intersparta string there.

I got a variety of thong styles, so I think for the first time at the Heights I'd be a bit conservative. The evenings I can go depend a bit on my work time leaving the office. It'll be Tues, Wed or Thurs. From about 6pm.

The path to Luccumbe chine is that from Luccombe village or the far end of Shanklyn beach? What Intersparta have you got?
As for the Hights Thursday is a possible of if not any day next week

Re:Isle of Wight and nearby beaches - UK.

The path I take to Luccombe Chine is the Coastal Path - past a house called CLIFFTOP, keep going, then a left hand turn, clearly marked.

Re Intersparta everything from Trident to Bandol. Rodas is the most "covering" slip I own. Regularly wear Zacros at local pool.

Only a holiday visitor so cannot make Heights

Re:Isle of Wight and nearby beaches - UK.

Thanks for the information on the Cliff path access, I will have a walk down and have a look, I am told you can walk along from Shanklyn at low tide, but obviously cant get back till low tide again.
I have also worn the Rodas, Tridant, Naturiste and Zacros but not the Bandol, I personally find they do not wear very well with regular beach use, stiching comes undone etc, but I have often thought about buying the Menton swim G .

Re:Isle of Wight and nearby beaches - UK.

Date Posted:10/18/2009 09:51:16Copy HTML

Yes, I agree walking to Luccombe from Shanklin at LW should be ok. Probably a good idea to leave Shanklin say an hour or two before LW. Portsmouth tide times should suffice. Lowest LW is at spring tides - new & full moon - at approx 0600 & 1800 so not too convenient!

Re Intersparta I had a Menton string before which I wore in Cyprus quite a bit. I also have a well worn Naturiste which I wore at Rocken End back in August.

Looks like there maybe more of us wearing less!

Went to the heights on Thurs at 6:30. Wore my white thong with Arena swimming goggles side straps (my own design). Other then a teenage girl (who specialised in screamming at 10 second intervals the entire time she was in the jacuzzi), who let out a 'oh' when I went in, no reaction at all. Two ladies in the sauna thought it they looked cool, and quite sensible for a sauna. Stayed till about 9pm, when I got hungry, and went off to buy some chips. 3 attendants came at varying times, no reaction at all. Will be back next week, either Tues or Thurs, maybe both. Might try my yellow thong with blue rope sides this time, my own design again. Pity the staff don't do something about the poor steam volume in the steamroom, it takes a dose of cold water over the thermostat to kick it into life. They obviously know it don't work correctly, 'cos they've put a sign up asking you not to do that, rather than fixing it!!!!

Went to the heights again on Thurs evening. Again, no problems at all. During a chat with other users in the Sauna, it come up a lady recently complained that she could 'see up a mans' shorts. I suppose she should've got off the floor !!!!!! When I suggested I might be the subject of a complaint then, wearing a thong, everyone they couldn't see anything wrong with them, just an alternative style, and eminantly sutable for the sauna and steamroom. The ladies wearing bikinis (3 off them), thought that baggy shorts that most guys wear must be very uncomfortable. It's as I've always expected, the 'ban' on thongs is always impossed by 'weak' management, and users don't give a dam.

Re:Isle of Wight and nearby beaches - UK.

Went again on Thurs. Again, no problems, nobody takes any notice. There were about 6 girls in the sauna in bikinis, the only comment I got when I went in was, 'oh, cool swimwear'! Further proof that pool/spa usesrs don't seem to care or be bothered what you wear, it's just 'weak' management of theses places who are scared when someone dares to be a bit different.

Yup, no point otherwise. Pity I'm on my own in the Spa though, the more that thong, the more it becomes acceptable, which is what were all trying to acheive. And some ladies would be nice, to show support.

Went on Thurs, very quiet.Well, it was until 3 guys came in straight from the gym with their sweaty clothes on, T shirts of, ditto shoes, and then they went straight into the Sauna!!! I went in, and came out after a few minutes,'cos it stank. Talk about ignorant, dirty slobs!! Now I know why in France and Begium, they've baned shorts in the pools, it's Speedos, or you don't come in. I complained to recepion on my way out, it's an e-mail to the management next. I might wear a thong, but at least I'm thoughtful, I have a shower in the changing room before I go in.

Thurs visit again, no problems at all as normal. I might try the pool next, although the evening schedule isn't very flexible, it seems as if only wednesday evenings has a general swimming session. I've noticed that +300 have looked at this posting, yet it hasn't resulted in anyone else thonging here. Why ?

Re:Isle of Wight and nearby beaches - UK.

Nice to see that you are having  problem free sessions. The reason no one else has thonged there is probably because they dont live near enough to the pool. I live in the Midlands (some 150 miles away). Its nice to read about others experiences and acceptances in public pools. It is unfortunate that we all live so far apart.

I go to beaches in Devon near Brixham. Scabbacombe Sands unofficial naturist beach wear I have worn thongs fromn Intersparta., mainly Scorpio or Inferno.I have actually walked the coast footpath from the beach to Mansands wearing my thong .

I have worn my thong on this beach to without any problems also you can do discreet nude sunbathing to,but do cover up when someone approaches.
ukessexbob #33

Re:Isle of Wight and nearby beaches - UK.

There is no need to cover up when nude sunbathing, as it's not illegal at all. There's nothing wrong with sunning nude, so just enjoy. Due to the weather, I've not made it to the heights up to now.

Managed my first visit of the year. Very quiet actually, no problems at all, which is the norm really. Wish the management were on the ball, and didn't manage to have COLD showers in the changing rooms during one of the coldest days of the year !!!!! the question is, am I destined to be a loner ? Time will tell.

Re:Isle of Wight and nearby beaches - UK.

Visited on Thurs. Quiet busy, no problems at all, seems to be basicaly a non event, which supports my view, that it's only the 'mamagement' of swimming pools who veto thongs, users don't care. Anyway, it now seems pretty pointless of me reporting anymore, unless something out of the ordinary occurs. This posting seems pretty dead anyway.

Just the spa, I find the evening use of the pool a bit restricted, it seems as if only Weds evenings is for general swimming, and I can't usually get away from the office in time to do a swim and spa on Weds. I'm trying to get in the pool, just have to see if I can get along on a Wed.

Re:Isle of Wight and nearby beaches - UK.

Managed a visit on Thurs evening, very quiet, because, as is becoming normal, the Jacuzzi was (for 10 days so far ) out of action, heater kaput. And as is typical of the Heights, it takes for ever and a day to obtain the required spare. Anyone would think it's a nuclear power station that's broke, rather than a Jacuzzi. Anyway, I'm going to try and make Tues and Wed eveings a regular spa session, and maybe a swim on Thurs, as I think there is a lane open between  5:30 to 6:30.

Re:Isle of Wight and nearby beaches - UK.

Another Spa issue. The Steamroom stank on Tues & Wed evening. On wed, we managed to get an attendant to fush the floor and drain with a few buckets of water, which seemed to  make it better. An e-mail to the manager assured me that a drain flushing routnine would be instigated. lets see. Had a chat to guy there who's also into thong, but always just wears speedos as he's not so confident thay's be accepted. I think I've convereted him now, let's see. Also had to deal with a typical an idiot on wed. Alone in the sauna, he came in, and immediately said 'are they legal?' I asked him what law did he know of that legislated swimwear, which made him look stupid. Anyway, the resulting comversation revealed him to be a complete idiot, and I told him he looked a complete dork in his two legged sack, in an outstanding shade of yuck grey!! He got his come uppence when a couple of girls, in bikinis, I often chat to, came in, and, during the conversation, said they though they looked rear cool, better than dork shorts. Thong 1, Dork shorts 0.

Its off the Militery Rd, a few miles past Chale Chine heading towards Freshwater,  dont go too fast and look for the signs, you will have to park on the grass verge and follow the footpath signs to the beach, only about 3mins walk but a bit of a climbe in places, once onto the beach, the left hand side is sandy and better for a swim.
Last year I started useing Brightstone Beach a few miles further on , useing a small car park next to the IOW Pearl Centre, then a short foot path down to the beach, getting popular with a few nudeists,  proberly due to the difficult access at Blackgang, hope this is helpful.

Thanks Seaswimmer,

That's very helpful.

I'll probably be travelling by bike from the ferry in Yarmouth, so parking won't be a problem. So coming from Freshwater I just need to look out for signs to Shepard's Chine on the right then? I wish I was there today with the weather that we have now!
