My wife and I go to Martinique regularly.  Les Saline beach is great, many topless women, many in thongs.  As usual, there a few men in thongs.  That said, I have never been hasseled and the beach vendors say "tres bon".

We are off to Les Saline again soon and will appreciate reports from anyone who has been down in the Carib.  In spite of the tension between the French and US governments, we still find the French people friendly to non-French.  Topless and thongs are common in Martinique.

Deltaplage- You are right about the US and French governments not getting along, and government is really the limit of it. Europeans have so much diverse government, they mostly do not take the government actions pesonally.

We have been visiting Cap D'Agde (nude) every spring for many years and have not encountered any problem with unfriendly French local people. Most are very accomodating, probably a higher percentage than in the USA. One has to take into account their culture which is a bit different. Some also say that the nude people just get along better together.

We do not often discuss politics, but on occasion, after several wines in the evening, we have had to explain the actions of our president Bush to French or German or Brit friends, but the question was inquiry and not often asked in a nasty manner. A good answer usually receives the reply-"Oh we wondered why Bush did that". Keep in mind there is no balance to the news in Europe, the British and European press are so liberal and openly anti-Bush, a lot of mis-information or just "half-truth" about the US is spread all through Europe.

The wife and I are contemplating a trip to Martinique and wanted to know what the swimwear situation is like currently. Is it still thong and topless friendly? What are some of the best places to stay and beaches to visit?

I received this from Diamond Resorts

"September marked one year since Hurricane Irma impacted St. Maarten, devastating much of the island and our resorts.

Since then, we’ve made good progress on the reconstruction of both Royal Palm Beach Resort and Flamingo Beach Resort, and are pleased to share an update on where we’re at now.

Construction crews fully gutted every unit at both properties and have completed the demolition phase of the reconstruction process.

They also have been busy replacing roofing at both resorts and are about 90 percent complete, with a scheduled goal of finishing the roofs by December 2018.

Photos of the roof replacement progress are below.

We are also excited to share some initial renderings of potential accommodation layouts.

We are in the process of building model units, which are expected to be available in February 2019, to test the layouts.

It’s important to note that design changes are still likely after we view the model accommodation, and continue to balance the project scope and budget.
