I drove all the way from Baltimore today and the park was closed!
Apparently it was filled to capacity.
Park Police had all the entrances blocked and were directing traffic away.
Does this happen a lot, or is this just a special memorial day thing?

Certainly it can happen on holidays.  It can happen on a nice sunny regular Saturday, but you are usually fine if you get there before noon or 1:00.  But it is not common, since there is a ton of parking.

Wondering if a Body Aware J-String would be accepted at SPSP.  These suits are a variant of the g-string without any side straps or back.  It is held in place by a springy nylon frame.  The problem is from the side or back it looks as though the wearer is nude; from the front, it is about the same as a g-string.

Anybody had any experiences?

I was at SP on 5/31 from about 11:30-1:30 on east (or maybe north) beach (was the furthest one over).  It was almost empty but for one other thonger.  I didn't talk to him until he talked to me as I was leaving.  Too bad for me, as he was really cute too, mustache, goatee, little black string thong, blue mirror shades & hat.  But he did say he goes there a lot since he's only about 15 minutes away.  Anyone there know who that might be, and if he's a member of this board?

Tandt, I think you can get away with just about anything on SP beaches, as long as you are not advertising or parading around. Just use common sense. If you think you may offend someone, bring an extra suit, maybe something a little more conservative. We have to stand our ground. If you are covered then you are within the law and have a right to wear what you want. See ya there...

I agree with string guy...almost anything goes so long as you're careful...and the genitals are covered, I suppose. I usually wear something fairly conservative at first...shorts shorts (no underwear)--very cool and refreshing, gstring style thong. Then if conditions warrant (no family groups, kids around and no rangers lurking) I change into something more daring (using towel wraparound for changing). This year (tomorrow??) I hope to try a mesh-style thong which is a bit see-thru up close but, I think, just looks like a regular thong from a distance.

Funny thing is, last year I did that...slipped out of my very nice gstring thong (HE Swimwear) and into a Koala semi-see thru thong. I put the gstring on the top of my backpack and laid face down on a towel..fell asleep...when I woke up I noticed that a guy who had been about 30 yards down the beach had walked up to where I was laying (saw his footprints in the sand). Then I noticed that the gstring was gone! What a bummer.

So, 4th of July weekend is coming up. That's a 3 day weekend.
I learned my lesson on Memorial day and will leave Baltimore earlier in the morning
before the park fills up. Anybody else going?
I'll probably look at the weather and drive down on the day that looks
to be the least likely to rain...

Maybe I'll start with this
http://bodyaware.com/product/view/S236
and transition to this
http://cgi.ebay.com/MANS-VERY-LOW-SLIDE-STRING-GREEN-JUMBO-MESH-/190259331291?pt=US_CSA_MC_Swimwear&hash=item2c4c5700db
if things are looking relaxed (not overrun with children and families, etc).

Is this acceptable?

I would wear the body aware suit to my moms house without problem.  As far as the jumbo mesh it all depends on what the situation is.  Myself, thats about all I wear or less but then again I am in a place where thongs
and nude are acceptable.

Re:Maryland - Sandy Point

Now that I'm close to Maryland, I have been to Sandy Point a couple times.  I would recommend against any sheer bikinis at the beach area.  They are okay with G-strings, but they have to be solid.  I was there a month ago or so, and was setup past the crowds in my blue Skinz M1 G-string.  I was up walking around towards the bridge and back on my cell phone.  When I returned, there was a family of kids that had migrated down the beach to the area I was at, 5 kids ages 4-6 or so.  I laid out for a few minutes, but was uncomfortable with all the noise they were creating and so I got up and moved about 100 ft down the beach closer to the bridge.  On the way I passed a gentleman in normal shorts and he said "thank you, I'm a park ranger and I was just about to ask you if you would move further down."  He didn't say it like he wanted me to leave, just to move away from the families.  Another time I was setup near the middle of a crowded beach in my JS Rio thong, next to two women, one of which was in a thong (the only female thong I've seen on Sandy Point).  I was fine as long as she was there, however she left after about an hour or so leaving me as the sole thonger in the middle of the beach.  Not 10 minutes after she left, a lady came over (who was there after me) and requested I cover up since her family was there.  I told her I wouldn't stand up to show off, but I could still lay here.  Another 10 minutes went by and a ranger car pulled up and two rangers got out.  They said I wasn't doing anything wrong, but requested I cover up or move further down the beach.  It was already late in the day for me, so I just left.  Long story short, thongs and G-strings are tolerated, but not especially so (definitely not near the family areas) so please do not push the limits.  Sandy Point is not Halouver Beach, there are under cover rangers and and it sounds like they are not unwilling to confront as necessary.  It's not to hard to think they won't give you a citation either if you wear a shear suit like the Dore one you indicated.

You would not have these problems if you were over on East beach... It is known to be the thong area. Set up on the point at the end of the access road away from the pavillions. Never worn anything sheer there, mostly skimpy g strings. I have never been approached by a ranger.

Re:Maryland - Sandy Point

Date Posted:06/30/2011 03:15:13Copy HTML

I'd be extremely cautious about wearing those two swimsuits posted in the previous link in general public areas.  The problem is that the design screams "everybody look at my package!"  For this reason, I'd strongly recommend the basic non-sheer thong or g-string, not because it's less skimpy, but because it's still a basic, functional swimsuit that just covers a little less than most.  For men, the toughest issue to deal with when finding thongs or g-strings is getting one that fits well and provides adequate support in the front.  Women almost never have this problem.  For men, a "wardrobe malfunction" in this area could easily become an indecent exposure citation, so get one that thoroughly covers the genitals even if the sides and back are almost nothing.

 Thanks everybody for the advice.
I won't wear that dore VERY-LOW-SLIDE-STRING-GREEN-JUMBO-MESH
to the beach. I'll bring something that is not see-through.
And if I wear the BodyAware Hot & Tight Micro Short,
I'll be sure to cover up until I am set up away from families, etc on the east beach.

I'll probably go on Saturday, Sunday, or Monday morning.
Although Sunday looks like it might be rainy and overcast.
Anybody else gonna be there on those days?

I have heard there are bad biting flies at this beach.
Is there a good insect spray for use with these type of pests?

Sorry, I work all weekend. I will be there tomorrow (Friday). Gonna be a hot one this weekend!! If there is a breeze you may not need a repellant.. If you do, I use deep woods off. They still buzz you, it can be very annoying. I actually got bit throught my suit on my sack, 2 weeks ago. It woke me up. They also do not like tanning oils. Have a good weekend there. Wish I could join you.

You heard right.  They are so bad, no repellant in the world would be effective.  I always check Weather.com detailed hourly forecast.  It gives the wind directions.  If the winds are from the land (out of the west) look out.  If they are out of the east (from the water) you should  be OK.

Whitebull, Where do you come from? I use College Pkwy. No traffic!!!! If you are using Rt 50, call 1 800 bayspan for more bridge info. It is updated often and very accurate. Rt 50 seldom backs up past Rt 2 so you could get on College Pkwy and avoid thge back ups. You missed a gem of a day.
Killa, I can't go on weekends, I hear it gets crazy. Brush up on your spanish (lol). Either one of those suits are fine there. I often wear my Shaved fury there and untie it. (no lines). I was wearing a see thru g string on Friday. My chrome c-ring was clearly visable when the sun shined on it. You should take several suits to adjust your look according to the folks around you. If you go to East Beach, you are almost free to wear what you want during the week. Never been on a weekend... I hate my job sometimes!!!

Re:Maryland - Sandy Point

Date Posted:07/02/2011 09:58:22Copy HTML

Well, I was worried I would not get into the park today.
The traffic down 301/50 was really stop and go.
Luckily it seemed most people were crossing the bay bridge
rather than going into the park.

Parked the car in the parking lot.
There were lots of families and groups of people barbequing
and hanging out on patches of grass all over the place.
Most everybody was dressed conservatively.

I walked around the perimeter of the south beach,
since the lady who took my money (at the toll booth to get into sandy point)
said that the east beach was closed.
There were a lot of people there. Lots of families and little kids.
The smallest swimsuit I saw was a women's string bikini.
I decided to steer clear.

I looped all the way down to the bridge in my search, then back up the beach going east.
I got to a place where there were a bunch of people fishing and noticed a trail
going north, so I followed it, hoping it might lead me to the east beach.

Down the trail past some more fisher-people and I realized this must be the east beach
that was in fact, open. Fewer people and no life guards.
Lighter colored sand than the orange of the south beach,

I saw one man there who was sitting in a chair.
I think he might have been wearing a thong or speedo. But I wasn't sure.
There were also some families and couples, but not as many as on the south beach.
So I did not get up there nerve to strip down to my thong.
Instead I walked up to the shower and restroom building and changed into
the Body Aware Hot & Tight Micro Short with a pair of khaki shorts as a cover up.
Walked back down to the beach and stripped down to my skivvies.

I was a little worried that some prudish person might come up and hassle me.
Luckily no one seemed to care. Swam a little and read a book.
No problems and also no biting flies.

I am really looking forward to going back!
Maybe I'll work up the cojones to wear something skimpier next time.

Does my narrative align with others' experience at Sandy Point?

Re:Maryland - Sandy Point

If there was a shower facility and pavillions with no life guards you were on East beach. Right on the point at the end of the access road is where most thong wearers go. Close to the fishing rocks on the point. On week days you could go nearly an hour before you see someone on that beach. It is NEVER closed during the summer. The parking lot is. Park in the small lot and walk to it. hard to believe there were no other thongs on that beach. Think of it as an ice breaker for you. Next time you will know where to go and you can get there early enough to wear a thong. Thats why I like the weekdays. Maybe we will meet one day.

Re:Maryland - Sandy Point

Date Posted:07/21/2011 10:44:38Copy HTML

I went to Sandy Point today for the second time ever. The first time I didnt lay out because I was not sure if it was alright to use the beach that has sign for private functions ( east beach? ) This time I went there and there was one family set up and a couple of people fishing on the rocks. I also saw a bunch of kids over by the pavillions in the distance. I layed out a towel by the lifeguard stand and put some lotion on. I had come from a meeting so I had on shorts with a turquoise thong underneath. I hadnt stripped down to my thong when a lifeguard on a four wheeler came by. So I flag him down to be sure it was ok being I was the only one that would have on a thong. Better safe than sorry. I asked him if it was ok to wear a thong on this beach and he said sure. I told him I didnt want to offend anyone and asked where I should set up. He suggested behind the volleyball nets would be best. The ymca kids were heading down to the beach to swim and he was setting up the lifeguard stand. I told him thanks and set up and stripped down to my thong. It was sooo hot today I was drenched in no time, so I put on my sandals (sand would burn your feet to a crisp) and headed to the water. It felt great and I didnt want to get out. The woman that was there with her family was out floating on a raft. Its kind of funny because she fell asleep and floated right into me. She said she was sorry and I said no problem and we had some small talk. I layed out some more and swam some more with not even a bat of an eye from anyone. It was great. My suit was pretty conservative which I think help and I didnt parade around. All in all I couldnt have asked for more. I left about 1:30 or so. On my way out I put my clothes on and met one of the couples that were fishing on the rocks. Very nice people. We talked about where we were from and so on. She had seen me in my thong and said just make sure you get in the water to cool off! I told her I planned on coming back and she and he said they definitely were. Great day. Sorry so long.

I was there until about noon. There another lone woman and an older couple with a child when I was there. It was very hot and the older foreign couple were very ignorant. So I went to the other side near the bridge.  Late August is the best time for Sansy Pt. Kids go back to school, very peaceful! Entire beach to yourself!

Yes I saw the woman, child, and an older man (who was walking the child up and down the beach) I talked to the woman when she was floating on the raft. The kids really didnt bother me because they were in the water closer to the rocks.

 flasfire,

Last week I posted my story about thonging for the first time at Sandy Point.
I had to be brave.
The post is here, number 79
http://forum1.aimoo.com/ThongBoard/Contacts-Looking-for-some-one-to-thong-with/Contacts-in-Sandy-Point-MD-2-993877.html

I am looking for someone to meet up with sandy point. Most everyone else who goes there tends to go during the week, which is not terribly feasible for me since I work M-F.
If you are looking for someone to meet up with on the weekend, I have been looking for a friend to go with.

A little off topic but did everyone see August 21st is national go topless day. DC is one of the few places where its actually legal to go topless. After seeing some other events in DC (WNBR, etc), i've noticed lots of guys and girls wearing thongs and even less. It seems like guys can get away with just wearing a cover or sock around the front area and leave their butt exposed (search for photos on flickr, etc).

Are there any females looking to participate in this event? Anyone else (males included) interested in getting a group together and help support the cause in our thongs or less?

Spent a couple of hours at Sandy Point this afternoon on both East and South beachres.  With the start of schools, there were few families and kids around.  Tried out my red J-string (strapless, stringless g-string) with no problems.  A couple of other rather timid male thongers present, no females.  Hurricane Irene left her mark.  The beach had not been cleaned and showed some signs of erosion at the water's edge.  There was no admission charge today (Tuesday 30th).  Wind was calm, some flies present, but not a problem.

Hey GKing, This is some of the best times for tanning on Sandy Pt. though the recent storms and rains have torn up the beaches and high bacteria my be an issue. You may want to stay out of the water until you know bacteria levels are safe. If it werent for the rains I would be there. Thong on!

Planning to start going back to Sandy Point again this year once the weather stays warmer - and hopefully often.  Made it there only twice last year and a few times the year before that.  Just read through the Sandy Point FAQ's, and came across this.  Never had a problem there before but see they kind of specify in their FAQ's - is it new or has this always been the case?
"Can I sunbathe nude at Sandy Point State Park?  Can I wear a thong bathing suit?Sandy Point State Park is a public family facility.  There are no “private” areas of beach in the Park.  Public nudity is prohibited by law.  When in the Park, we ask that you wear bathing attire that is appropriate to be viewed by adults and children alike.  If bathing attire is inappropriate, you may be asked to cover up."

Re:Maryland - Sandy Point

Date Posted:03/30/2012 01:52:04Copy HTML

Read that piece last year.  The operative point, as I read it, is that you would be asked to cover up.  Not arrested, or ticketed.  Appropriate attire, as I understand Maryland law, is a suit that covers the boys.  Bare buns are not illegal.  What's appropriate for children is another matter altogether.  They are everywhere after school lets out.

the post is dated 08/20/2011

I had a tiny g-string on that day, and some douchebags complained about me, yet the only thing the
park ranger asked me to do was to move to a different part of the beach.
I was wearing a tiny (but opaque) dore g-string that day.

We have strength in numbers! Shout at me if you are thinking of going on some weekend as it gets warmer.

Thanks to both of you!  I wasn't sure if that part of the FAQ's was new or not - I never read it until the other night.  Good to know!
I just bought my girlfriend the new Malibu Strings "Palms Place Beach" print thong bikini as a surprise; should be here in about another week or so.  Can't wait to get to the beach this year.  The weather has been just warm enough to be taunting us for the last month!
tanandtaut, you mention the kids being everywhere once school lets out...we both work together at a school district and really won't be able to get to the beach until the kids are out and we have our "summer vacation" June, July and most of August.  I don't recall ever being there on the weekends - are they pretty packed with kids?  Fridays are usually the day we do our "day trips" to Sandy Point.  I wouldn't mind staying in a hotel overnight and enjoying 2 days there (Friday and Saturday) before heading back home as it's about a little over 3 hour drive from where I live which makes for a long day.
killa, I'll be sure to post up when we decide we're heading down there to SPSP.
Thanks again to both of you.

thonginthesun,i found it.i was there last weekend but it was too chilly.later i found i was on the wrong part of the beach too...i had gone to the southern most part of the park(where the beach makes a turn)i was told by a local that the east beach was the place to go.didnt go to the east beach but i saw the road to it.i'll try sandy point again when it warms up again but i have my doubts if its the place im looking for....i usually go nude when theres no families or kids around...the beach seems too small to be able to do that

yep, i think you're right about nudity. It would draw ranger attention and perhaps make it difficult for thongers to continue enjoying the relaxed attitude about thonging. It's a nice place to thong, though.

Made it out to Sandy Point today.
Lots of white people. That means potential people who will harass me - republican jerks.
I wandered around looking for a place out of the way for quite some time and finally settled
near the western end of the south beach - out of the way of most people.
I did see two other thongs - one on an elderly gentlemen on the east beach, and another
on a cute latina lady in a short pink skirt coverup. Her cheeks were just visible below the
bottom of the short skirt - NICE!
