Re:Maryland - Sandy Point

I have been to many beaches where there are women wearing thong bikinis or very small bikinis. I have seen how several men have harrassed them, called them unkind names and otherwise made beach time miserable. I have seen lifeguards and park rangers tell women to cover up when thongs are legal and almost no one is at the beach. I have seen women yell at those other women who wear thong bikinis. I have had similar treatment off and on over the years. I've had every negative name called at me related to homosexuality and being a horrible person for my choice of swimwear. I've been asked/told to leave when I am wearing legal and appropriate swimwear (including a few time in a Speedo/bikini and square cut). I've been told what I am wearing has been offensive to children when there are no (I repeat NO) children on the entire beach. It is no fun. I have been to a few beaches where there are signs about nudity, and no one complains about those. I would be happy to see a sign saying permitted, or allowed. It may help with some of the poor behavior by others. It seems to me that when others are knowledgable about the sand they step on they are more accepting of what and who is there. There are many beaches where there is a gay friendly area and it is well marked. No one seems to be bothered by it. There are many beaches where smoking and alcohol is not permitted, and those areas still attract people. Over all Thongbikinigirl is not talking about restriction. Rather she is talking about informing and creating knowledge. GO Girl. This is about inclusion.

I don't like the idea of a thong area at SP because that implies thongs are only tolerated in that area.  I have thonged at SP many times at everywhere from East beach, to the connector, to the main beach and to the rocks by the highway.  If you've been there you know that covers an area over a mile in length.  I have seen women in thongs in all those areas as well.
Also, the public generally restricts these areas to the trashy part of the beach, because they save the best parts for families, etc.  Look at nude beaches, with few exceptions they are in the rocky or trashy section of the beach and also far away from any convienent beach access.  For instance, while playalinda beach is beautiful, it takes over 30 minutes to drive all the way to the last lot, and on a weekend the parking is usually full meaning you have to park a few lots prior and wallk another 10-15 minutes.  It's an hour before you can even strip down.

I would be happy with any improvement at SPSP. Although I have not been bothered by anyone it still creates an uneasy feeling. I have pitched the idea for a flag before. It would be cool to have a meeting place for like minded people to hang with and chat. We did have a small impromptu gathering a few years ago. there were six of us together and a couple not far away. It was awesome and liberating. One of my best days at SP. The park or the State are not going to make special arrangements for one type of beach user. so we have to do it ourselves. I would bet you they would figure out a way to charge us for a large group.I will support any effort to make it better.

What was the logo on the flag?

Would be a thongboard logo so everyone would recognize it. it would make it easier for members to meet each other. just a thought.

Re:Maryland - Sandy Point

If you do one try to make one that is:

  • Easily recognizable from a distance
  • Is not directionally dependent - So that if it is on a limp flag, one that is not blowing straight out in the wind, you can still recognize it.
  • Simple so people can make their own
  • Not easily confused with existing symbols or logos
  • Is not confused with existing national or regional flags so it can be used world wide
  • Works when reduced to a small size, like a bumper sticker (see first line above)

You may want it easy to sew or print on to a flag or pennant.

Probably starting with a triangular pennant is a good idea.
Maybe with a long tail, or swallow tails so it flutters in the breeze.

Not purple or pink, or easily confused with a Landa symbol, and not ISIS black and white.

Maybe something that has a unique and recognizable shape.  For example this flag .

Or some form of easy to identify feather flag.

Or adopt a flag that is easy to buy, like one of the international code flags, like this for Number 7.

You're on it Thongbikinigirl. Maybe try to use the colors of thongboard logo up top and simple like. TB or AIMOO. Gotta keep it legal and all. Don't want to offend anyone either.....jeeze....just tie a beach towel to a pole!

Well I posted a couple of logo ideas in my pictures.  One is a TB for thongboard, and the other one is just a thong logo with side ties.  I could make some kind of banner with one of those on it.

My drawing skills are minimal, but here's an idea.
Start with your typical round smiley-face. Replace the eyes and nose with a thong (like the one in your photos). Put a smile under it.
Result: Thong Friendly!

I've been away from the board for a bit, but spent some time tonight catching up on this thread (mostly because I'm longing for the warm weather to return! Screw this BS single digit temperature sh*t)!

Anyway, I'd be perfectly fine with some type of flag/sign or whatever, especially on the connector beach, since that's almost invariably where I set up when I go. Not necessarily one that "designates" it as an area where thongs are allowed, but some kind of sign that lets others know they are allowed.

Anyway, I am wondering where TBG gets the idea that swimming isn't allowed on the connector beach. There is a small area between the parking lot and part of the connector where swimming isn't allowed (largely because of rocks that you can't see right under the surface of the water, I believe). But on most of the connector beach swimming is not only allowed, they even have a lifeguard stand there (I am usually set up right next to it, in fact). It's typically not staffed, but if there are a lot of people in the water once the entire lifeguard crew is on duty, they will put it up and put someone on it until the number of people in the water diminishes.

Anyway, I am looking forward to getting back out there as soon as possible.

So, I didn't go to Sandy Point at all last summer, but the two summers before that, swimming was not allowed on the connector beach, and the rangers would ride by on their carts and jump out to tell everyone in the water to get out.  It appears a though it has become such a popular area that they have now put up lifeguard chairs based on your description, but it was not that way when I used to go before last summer.

I will get some deck time before the beach. Being on the water keeps it cool until late April and into May. SPSP is very nice early in the season. You will have the beach to yourself.

Sun's out - buns out.
Made my first trip to SP today. A cool breeze was coming off the water, the sky was cloudless and the sun was warm. No flies. A perfect early spring day. Surprisingly large crowd, a lot of fishermen along South Beach and scattering of families with small children everywhere. The end parking lot was full. I settled in on the connector segment and laid out for about 70 minutes. A couple of young mothers with small children in tow passed by without a second glace - just the way I like it. Got some color and came away with faint tan lines, although my thong is too small for them to be noticeable. As far as I could tell, I was the only thonger present.
Here's looking forward to a good season at SP.

I managed to make it out to SPSP yesterday, an absolutely perfect day for laying out. I was out on the connector for about two hours and was literally the only person out there with the exception of one woman who walked her dog down the beach.

I spent Tuesday and yesterday at SP, and generally had the beach to myself (though on Tuesday a gorgeous darker skinned woman laid out in a bikini not too far from me). An interesting thing happened yesterday, though. One of the little...explorer groups(?) of 12-13 year olds with their chaperones came walking by on the path between south and east beaches as I was lying buns up. This group was all girls, and about half the group slowed down and looked over at me, most with grins on their faces. The chaperones either didn't notice or pretended not to notice. The girls didn't giggle or make any snide comments or anything, just big old grins! lol Kind of awkward, but I thought it was cute.

Just went to Sandy Point yesterday, 5/12.  As I was going, at about 1:30, I saw another guy in a blue thong, and I was just wondering if he's in this forum?  I'd like to meet back there some time.

Actually, when I go there and see guys in thongs, they're usually alone, and I think they'd prefer to be left to their sunning and not talk to people who they don't know.  Does anyone else on this board have an opinion on this?

Re:Maryland - Sandy Point

Jrb, there are a few who like solace. I find, if you speak to them they will speak back. I like to be the one who says hello and ask if they are on the board. Somewhat of an ice breaker. Most of them have been laughed at, threatened and all sorts of junk. That's how people are in this closed minded area. You can't blame them for being cautious.

Ok, and if you've seen women wearing thongs at the park, what area did you see them in?  Is there a place that's most common?  I've only been there a couple of times and it was crawling with families.

Re:Maryland - Sandy Point

I've seen women in a thong and topless all over the park. mostly away from the crowds in the middle. several south closer to the bridge. some on the connector beach and lots on East beach. I have seen a number of photo shoots for web sites and other media. More goes on there then most people think. I try to enjoy myself in lieu of what others may think or say. its my choice and its legal.

Oh my... Is that the impression you get by wearing a thong? I think it exudes confidence and comfort. Most women would die for thong-able body. Girl, be proud and show it!

Uh, whether or not it exudes confidence, Maryland isn't exactly SoBe.  I'm just trying to figure out whether or not people are thonging much there before I go, I'd prefer not to be the only one, and I'd prefer not to be the only girl.  Have you been there recently?

Re:Maryland - Sandy Point

Date Posted:07/14/2015 11:28:18Copy HTML

I've made it out there three times so far this year, and on all three occasions I did see at least one other thonger.  These were all on weekdays.  The odd thing is that only once was there another thonger near me over on East Beach (near the jetty), which has typically been the most common place for thongers.  That time, there were two other men near me.  The other two times, I only saw another thonger after I finished and was heading back to the main beach. One of those was on the next section over -- the strip of beach between the fishing jetty and the other smaller jetty to the south.  The other was on the main beach.  On a separate visit, I saw a guy thonging on the far side of the main beach, not too far from the Bay Bridge end.  Overall, I would say that thong attendance has increased, but it has also spread out a bit.  Anyone who wants the company of another thonger stands a higher chance of having it, but maybe a lower chance of actually finding that person.  I should add that all of my visits were on sunny days with the temp in the low 80s (not too hot).

Spent the day on the north beach. I saw three other guys in thongs and for the first time this year two ladies in thongs. They were laying well north of me near the far jetty. The day was perfect with full sun, a light breeze, no flies, and just a few couples spread throughout the beach. Actually the connector beach appeared more crowded. The water was warm and clear without jellyfish. Will return next week!

>talk about jelly fish, is this something to be concerned wit with small children.

Well, I have been stung many times.  It's about like being stung by a bee.  It lasts a few minutes, then dissipates.  If they are present my GF won't go in the water.  I met one guy who got one plastered to his face and won't go in the water at all.

With kids, I would be concerned, they aren't going to be happy about being stung.  You can't always see the nettles.  Sometimes they will go by and you get stung, other times, I can feel them go by and nothing happens.

I was out last Sunday.  Jetski'd out of Sandy Point, across the bay, up the Chester river.  Went in the water multiple places, didn't see any jellyfish.
It just depends on water temp and salinity.

Wore only my Muscleskins the whole way back.  Very few people on the water in the afternoon.  Only had one boat come up behind me and pass as I got close to the bridge.  They didn't even slow down.  I was standing at the time, so nothing left to the imagination for them!

Jellies should be a concern for everyone until you know how you react to the sting. They are a pain in the a** for anyone who swims. I find that the East beach area is slightly shielded from them. One day its good the next, jellies everywhere! I will still go for the beach time. Maybe going today.
