The only thing cool about Miami is SOBE and only the upscale money areas. Sorry but the city is
really dirty homeless people lots of illigial aliens.  We would rather thong in a low key beach and and not a big city.

So Funny, I have lived here my entire life. Yes its changed a lot. But what in the world hasn't changed?I have been lucky enough to travel to many different countries. They all have there charm, and disgust.For the most part we have some of the best weather in the world, a multi ethnic, population.And the best of all???? One of the only true NUDE BEACHES in the United States.How bad can it be???  J 

I notice that people often confuse the cities of Miami and Miami Beach.

The "City of Miami" on the main land. It is a diverse and interesting city with a vibrant art and new music scene but like many big cities the  downtown is bit grubby.  As the poster points out there are quite a lot of homless who have fled the bone chilling cold and hostile attitude in the north of the USA.

The "City of Miami Beach" is a diffrent city.  You have to travel over one of the causeways that span Biscayne bay to get there.  This is where the beach is.  The south end of the City of Miami Beach is what people call SOBE. This is a throbbing city of night clubs, topless beaches and shops that range from tacky t-shirt through to truly exotically expensive.  Not everyone's cup of tea. More suited for the young or young at hart.

If tbacksmon wants to stay in a cleaner city, then try Hollwood or Fort Lauderdale a little to the north, although you are unlikely to see as many thongs and topless women are scarse.  Or stay in the 'City of Adventura', which is very new and clean, and right by Haulover Beach where a thong maybe over dressing.

I realize my remarks about miami were pointed and manybe to judgemental. We are not big city concrete jungle types thats just us. We will try some of your recomendations if were on the atlantic coast.

FYI, Aventura is also on the mainland and "over the bridge" from the beach and, of course, Haulover. I think that you are referring to Sunny Isles Beach. Aventura is the home of a very large mall, a vast expanse of high rise condos, and unbelievable traffic.

 Like everything you always try it at least once and if you don't like it try it again just to make sure. Either way you will not regret it.
 
As said above Miami should not be confused with Miami Beach. South Beach is historic with its rich Art Deco Architecture and contemporary style, Topless beaches, thongs and just up the road Haulover, the best nude beach.

Miami has its charming places as well , south of downtown is Coconut Grove and Vizcaya, Brickell Avenue and many other places that have their own unique qualities.

Don't forget the great fishing and only about an hour away from the Florida Keys.

Oh, by the way its 80 degrees plus today, sunny and beautiful. I think I will grab a thong or less and head on out.

I've lived just north of Miami all my life. It is what it is. And I've never been to Haulover, but I intend to go soon, very soon. Anyone else go there?
