I've just spent the late afternoon and evening at Palm Spring in Parakai, New Zealand.  I was in a micro teardrop gstring, metallic red with 2mm wide strings, it doesn't cover much at the best of times but the hot water seemed to shrink it a bit more.  It must have been the smallest bit of swimwear people had ever seen on a guy.

The owners didn't bat an eyelid, they run monthly nude nights, I'll have to attend one of those.  The place was quiet, very few people there and the atmosphere was relaxed.  Nobody commented on my attire, even when I walked up to the counter to order a cold beer and a hamburger.

The best experience I've had wearing the same gstring was having a break from kayaking at a little bay on the Coromandel.  While enjoying a cold beer and the hot sun a woman had walked the trail to the beach to do the tourist thing.  She sat on the rocks at the end of the beach for a while then came over towards me.  At this point, she still hadn't seen the front of the suit and she must have assumed it was a reasonably modest gstring.

She approached and said "Excuse me, hello", I turned and returned the greeting.  She lost her voice for a second then said "Wow!, that doesn't cover hardly anything!" but didn't seem offended.  She then asked me to take her photo, I took several, she never asked for a photo of me.  We chatted on the beach for about 10 minutes.  Nothing else happened, it was simply a pleasant chat with a Canadian backpacker of the opposite sex.  I hope I left her with a pleasant memory of NZ whenever she looks at the photos I took.

Cheers

Has anyone been to Palm Springs Parakai hot pools lately? It looks like they're under new management since @nz_thong last posted in 2010. I plan on going next week. It will be my first time publicly thonging. I will take a pair of speedos just in case I decide not to thong.

How did you get on thonging in public for the first time?
I would love to venture up there at some point if the locals are thong friendly.

I chickened out. There were 5-6 older Korean people around and some younger parents with their kids. I decided to wear my swim briefs instead. I went to the rock pool first where I had some stares from the older Korean people. Can’t imagine what they would have done if I was wearing my green swim thong haha. Nice enough facilities though.
