Was at Playalinda Friday for several hours, picture perfect day.  Very nice crowd at Lot 13, mostly nude, but also some thongs.  People can wear whatever they want and will fit in.  One topless girl and her boyfriend walked from Lot 13 all the way down to Lot 12 and back, without any apparent problem.  Ranger came by mid-morning on his four wheeler as part of his regular patrol, and didn't even slow down.  Crowd was a mix of hetero couples, gay couples, single men, and a few single women.  No gawkers.  It's a great place.
Regarding back country permits referenced earlier in this thread, they only cost $2.00, you pick it up at the check-in gate, and you can literally walk for miles and not see anyone after you get a few hundred yards north of the demarcation sign.

Does anyone know whether there are places near Apollo Beach to rent umbrellas and maybe chairs to use at Apollo?  I want to go there tomorrow but unfortunately my skin is not a fan of extensive sun worshipping and I'd love to stay for a long time but be in some shade.  Any info is much appreciated!!

I made it to Apollo today.  The answer to my previous question about umbrella rents was no.  But, after getting a lot of rain near my hotel I noticed on radar that there appeared to be an opening towards New Smyrna so I rolled the dice and drove down there.  Amazingly with all of the rain surrounding the area, I thankfully did not get a drop.  It was overcast (I still somehow managed to get burned) but no rain.  After surviving the physical assault of the mosquitos in the parking lot (it was amazing!  one of the worst mosquito experiences of my life and I've been to the jungles of Belize twice!) I made it to the beach and quickly stripped down to my Joe Snyder bulge thong.  I walked the beach for a bit and then set up.  I laid down and spent about 2 hours both nude and in my thong.  I loved both!  It was a great feeling to be so free!  The rain and clouds kept the crowd pretty low.  There were about 5 couples there along with 2 single guys and myself.  All were nude.  Very laid back and fun.  Ranger cruised down and back on his quad without a second glance to anyone.  All in all an enjoyable day except for the sunburn....the dermatologist will not be happy!

I'm planning a trip to Florida at the end of this month.  Can anyone tell me when is the most and least crowded time to visit Apollo Beach at Canaveral?  Probably going to be there on Wednesday, March 28 and Saturday March 31.  As an out of towner, I'd love to have some company.

At Apollo, parking is so limited you will never encounter an actual crowd.

Wednesday will certainly be fewer people and parking shouldn't be a problem except at lot 5, the traditional nude area, where you just have to be early enough.  Saturday, parking will fill up quicker but I've never had a problem parking on weekends at lots 1-4.

Thongs will be okay anywhere on the beach, not just lot 5.

What about Appolo Beach?  I have been reading up a bit and found that the Supt for the Canaveral Sea Shore had proposed a 2mile by 1/2 mile stretch south of parking lot #5 to be nude.  Its also not in Brevard County.  That means that its not as risky to be nude there.

Any updates or recommendations for either Playalinda or Apollo Beaches?

Was at Playalinda beach today 10/24/12 and wore a thong between lots #11 and #12. I had no issues with anyone that was near by. This being a week day the beach was fairly empty so I didn't have much to worry about.

2013/01/02 beach report:  Beautiful day.  High about 77.  Water temp was 64.  (Didn't stop me from getting in some body surfing ... caught 4 great waves, they were breaking rather shallow, so it was a challenge to NOT eat sand at the end of the ride.)  Didn't see a single thong.  When I got there a little before noon, I had to park in lot 12.  (Lot 13 was 100% full.)  Crossed over at 12 and walked the beach.  ZERO nude people south of the main 13 crossover.  An hour or so later, I walked from 13 to the "beyond this sign you need a back country pass" sign, counted 84 people, 23 females.  That's about 27%.  Like I said, no thongs.  I brought a pink crochet g-string, but left it off and sunned nude for 4 hours.

Playalinda is my favorite, I go there all the time, but never to the nude section. Its mostly old naked people that just stare, very awkward. I usually hang out around 10 or 11. I'm always up for making new friends, hard to find guys my age that like skimpy swimsuits too. :(

What's the atmosphere like south of 13?  I hear no thongs spotted but can you wear tiny G's without being bothered?  If deserted will expose-your suits fly?  Many beach patrols to make sure nudes stay above 13?

Have been there many times and you will fine wearing whatever you want to wear past 13.  I try to get over there more in the summer and in fact was at Apollo last week in my Dore gstring and had no problem wearing it and walking the beach.  Playalinda past 13 is the same.  Would love to join you sometime.

I think I was misunderstood- I mean has anyone worn thongs outside the nude area, at the parking lots before 13?  I ask because some nudist beaches are bordered by some of the "prudist" beaches...there are redneck regulars that seem to want to make sure the nudes don't "spread like a cancer" and therefore thongs are worn by troublemakers- and the rangers are harrassing!

Not that I wouldn't want to go to the nude part but if I need to park at the other lots can I hike in in a thong?

Sailor, there are lots of rednecks, fishermen, and families just before lot 13. Im sure the fishermen and hicks are well aware of the nudist area, but I guarantee you most of the families have no clue what they're getting into.  They're most likely tourists or just unaware that there are a gazillion naked men just over yonder. There is a cop car that patrols the back end of Playalinda and the parking lots, always gets me nervous.

Spent Sunday morning at Apollo lot 4 (5 was full before 9:00, of course).  My wife was with me so I was wearing a Skinz rio for swimming and walking, less for sunning.  Among the couple dozen people we could see were one thong and one more rio, both female, two nude couples, and one couple where the guy was doing like me, but more conservative - board shorts for walking and a speedo for sunning.  Nobody was having a problem with anybody.

Sailor250, I just read your post from January.

Late last year I called the guard shack at the entrance to Canaveral Seashore, aka Playalinda Beach.  I called to ask a few questions about beach attire.    The lady said that there are tons of people that go nude on the beach at the last lot.  It's not legal, but no one ever gets in trouble for it.  I asked about wearing a thong or a g-string.  She said that as long as you are covered then it didn't matter what you wear.  I specifically asked about thongs and g-strings and that I, a guy, would be wearing them.  She said it was fine to wear them anywhere on their beaches.

If you want to wear a thong or g, just do it.  If you want to ask first, call the desk at the entrance to the park.  You can look up their number at NPS.gov

I've worn thongs at several lots at Apollo, the first lot past the gate my favorite as it has a shower at the parking lot.  Even showered in my thong with others watching from the lot--no troubles.  As for Playalinda, it is in Brevard County where things are illegal, so I confine wearing to the last lot where nude is OK.  I think there is actually a legal agreement with Brevard to allow nude north of that last beach. Go early, the parking lot is small and fills quickly on a nice day.

Was able to go recently.  If you go to lot 13 and north ( well half way between 12 and 13) then you'll see everyone's nude.  I saw a couple of people in thongs but everyone's naked.  The 12 lot fills quickly after 13 fills so arrive early in the day.  I didn't attempt to thong at the lower number lots.  Was able to walk to and from the car in 13 in a thong with no problem. The park rangers seem to expect nudity north of 13. There were at least 200 people naked out there.  I saw them ride through on an ATV a few times, stop and talk etc, nude was accepted. If you walk more than about 1/4 mi north of 13 you're supposed to have a "back country permit" which you purchase at the entrance gate for I think $4.  They just note your vehicle info in case you get lost and they see your car isn't leaving after closing time.  If the rangers drive through and ask they and you don't have one they claim they can fine you hundreds of dollars.  They say they want to limit the number of people wandering out there.I understand you can walk all the way to Apollo Beach nude without a worry. From what I've seen most anything goes in the back country, when you walk a while there will be no one else in sight. The beach can get very hot, so bring lots of water with you.

The "No Nudity" sighs are down at Playalinda beach. Someone fought a ticket from the sheriff earlier this year (?) . As we entered the park today, I asked the Ranger who replied that "the sighs are down and you may find nudity at #13, enjoy your day".
We did and didn't see a ranger until 5:00pm as they started to close down the beach for the day.

I saw on a google earth picture near lot 13 that nude is not permited. I am assuming that is an old picture then? In case lot 13 is full can you park at any lot at playalinda and get away with wearing just a thong? I am headed to Central FL, Miami for 10 days on Friday and would like to know what I can do ahead of time. Do the lots mainly fill up on just the weekends?

I don't know what that picture is about?  A sign in the parking lot?  (of course nudity's not allowed in the parking lot- I don't remember a sign saying that when I was there a few months ago- a sign at the front gate warns nudity not permitted- of course elsewhere in the park)See the post above- on the beach at 12  1/2 nudity was all over and ranger's driving around- it's accepted.  I think thongs are accepted elsewhere but didn't try anything south of 12.  Yes 13 fills by 11 am on weekdays, and 12 by 11am on weekends- then it's a hike from 11 or 10, so arrive early.

I don't know about Playalinda, but it's been a couple of years since the sign disappeared at Apollo Beach.  You can certainly thong anywhere and may even find that the couple next to you isn't wearing anything, even if you're not at lot 5.  Happened to my wife and me not long ago.  My impression is that current park management just doesn't want to make a big fuss about it one way or the other as long as everyone behaves.  Good attitude.

Hey. Been a long time since I've been on here, or posted anything, but I do have a question re: playalinda. Has the nude bathing stretched further south than lot 12/13? Is just lot 5 now a more conservative space? I hope so, so parking and hiking's sake. My Gf and I love to head out there whenever we get the time to do so and the weather permits.

Re:Playalinda / Apollo beaches, Canaveral National Seashore in Volusia and Brevard County FL

fitanman:  first off, south of lot 5 is the "traditionally nude" area of apollo beach.  the parking is still rather limited (about 20 spaces) AND there is a sign not far south of the crossover requiring a "back country permit."  those permits can be had at the ranger station (where you pay your parking fee or show your annual pass) for $2.00 a person.

NORTH of lot 13 at playalinda is still the "traditional nude" area.  (Ie: not legal nude!)  you will see lots of nude users north of lot 12.  once again, as you go north there is a sign requiring a "back country permit." they also sell those for $2.00 a person at the playalinda ranger's station at the entrance to the park.

you may or may not see nude people at lots 10 and 11.

when i can't park at lot 13, i kind of enjoy parking at 11 and walking north in just a tiny g-string.  (not legal in brevard county, but fuck them!)  once i plant myself north of lot 13, i strip down and enjoy the nude beach.

 Shaved,
I'm a bit confused with your response. Did you mean to say that south of lot 5 and north of say, 12 are "traditionally nude?" Meaning lots 6-10ish are not but the others are? I've always been driving all the way down to lot 11 or so, then walking...

> Did you mean to say that south of lot 5 and north of say, 12 are "traditionally nude?"

yes and no.  south of lot 5 at Apollo Beach is nude.  This is in Volusia County.  To get there, take A1A south from New Smyrna Beach.  After quite a drive, and a toll booth / ranger station, you will be in the national park.  Canaveral National Seashore.    As you drive south, you will come to lots 1 through 5 in order.  The road dead-ends after 5.  When you park at lot 5 and walk south from the crossover, you will be in the traditionally nude area of Apollo Beach.  After a short walk, you will encounter a sign warning you not to enter the area without a "back country" permit.  Those are available back at the ranger station for $2.00 per person.

> Meaning lots 6-10ish are not but the others are? I've always been driving all the way down to lot 11 or so, then walking...

nope.  that's Playalinda Beach.  Also part of the Canaveral National Seashore, but in Brevard county.  Lot 1 is the first parking lot as you drive north towards lot 13 where the road dead ends.  (More of a cul du sac, or a loop, actually.)  If you get to the park before 9 am, you can almost certainly park in lot 13.  Or just park as far north as you can and walk.  Once you get to the crossover(s) at lot 13, you're in traditional nudist territory.  If you walked on the beach, you probably will pass a LOT of naked people at lots 11 and 12.  Once again, keep walking north and you'll get to another sign telling you that you must be in possession of a "back country permit" to enter.  Those are also $2.00 per person and available at the ranger station at the entrance.  If you're willing to hike roughly 12 miles north, you'll get to Apollo beach.  Then hike 12 miles back or pay for a VERY expensive cab ride!

technically, thongs are illegal in all of Brevard county.  even on the beach.  I don't think that there has been any enforcement of that for a long time.

I went to Playalinda today. Beautiful weather. Unfortunately, the ocean was full of huge jellyfish.  Spent some time nude, then put on a tiny pink crochet getting. Woke up from a nap to find the couple laying about ten yards from me in a sixty nine.  Haven't seen actual sex at Playalinda in years. No one tried to stop them.

Re:Playalinda / Apollo beaches, Canaveral National Seashore in Volusia and Brevard County FL

I'm going to be in Daytona for work, and thought I'd extend my trip a few days to check out Apollo, Playalinda, and the space center. It looks like for Playalinda and the space center, I'd want to get a hotel room in Titusville. Is that the best place for a home base to visit these locations? what about Apollo- New Smyrna Beach or Edgewater? Can I get to all these places reasonably from one location, or would you recommend I stay in two places?

I'd second lcp84047's question, since we're planning to visit Florida sometime soon.  Would like to know best place to stay for an out-of-towner.  I also wonder whether it would be easier/faster/safer/better to go nude on Playalinda or Apollo?  Judging from sailor250's pictures and my own scan of Apollo using Google Maps, it looks like Playalinda gets a lot more use.  Both look like exceptionally beautiful beaches, a lot better than Haulover or even South Beach.

For Playlinda there are a few motels in Titusville along I  95 to stay, about a 30 drive away- well everything is over 15 min from the beach.  Cocoa Beach is another possibility but farther away.  Don't know of any confirmed thong friendly pools or hotels but you'll be naked or almost naked all day anyway. On Playalinda there can be dozens to hundreds of naked people each day.If you want to get out in the wild on the beach get a back country pass and bring lots of protection!  Oh and bring sunscreen too!

I stayed at the Ramada Inn Kennedy Space Center at 3500 Cheney Highway in Titusville last Fall enroute to south Florida, expressly to try Apollo Beach.  That was a good experience early the next morning before heading on my way, but I found their pool and spa the evening before to be thong friendly.  Few around, but no issues at all.  Enjoyed my red wine by the pool, then had pleasant conversation with others in the spa.  My thong never mentioned, just as it ought to be.  Made my reservation thru AAA.com -- we're members, always use their site.
