Date Posted:11/10/2014 09:54:44Copy HTML I'm happy I'm no longer one of the only women wearing thongs at beaches and parks. This article seems to complain about it, but there wouldn't be an article if there weren't a growing trend towards women ditching the diaper butt bikinis and putting on something a little more flattering. Take a look:

Re:Rapidly growing thong and semi-thong trend in women Date Posted:11/10/2014 11:36:59Copy HTML I agree with you. I'm often not the only female wearing a thong at a beach or even in the parks. I always see at least one more and I like to go talk with them if I can. I've made some good friends with other males and females that are wearing a thong when I am too. It does seem to help start the conversation, especially with guys, when I am in my thong - or topless too.

Re:Rapidly growing thong and semi-thong trend in women Date Posted:11/11/2014 03:36:36Copy HTML The trend toward smaller bottoms has been happening for a few years now. Just this last summer I was at an water park inside an amusement park. There were so many "cheeky" bottoms, a lot more than in previous years. Also, there were 1/4 coverage to thongs too. Not many, but more than before and no one seemed to care or even take notice. I'd have to say that around 90% of the smaller bikini wearers were in the 18 - 25 age group. Does this bode well for this trend moving forward and staying with the younger crowd as they get older or is it a fad will fade once they have given them a try? I'd like to think that when the younger ladies see the older 18 - 25 yr olds wearing the smaller bottoms that as the grow older and want to experiment with them too and decide to wear them too, that it will help keep the trend alive.
BTW, the water park was Boomerang Bay at Carrowwinds just outside Charlotte, NC.! |

Re:Rapidly growing thong and semi-thong trend in women Date Posted:11/11/2014 11:33:13Copy HTML Seen it all before; on Sydney beaches anyway.
Traditional two piece / bikinis became smaller and smaller through the 60s, 70s and 80s, culminating in a majority of late teen through thirties women sunning topless and a not insignificant number in g-strings. Then for reasons I never really understood, sometime around the mid 90s the tops went back on and the bottoms became more conservative. A couple of years ago the bottoms started to get briefer again. I expect history will repeat itself and many will end up in thongs. However, from what I've observed so far, I suspect topless in this fashion cycle will remain on the fringe |

Re:Rapidly growing thong and semi-thong trend in women Date Posted:11/11/2014 11:49:46Copy HTML This cheeky trend is great! So glad girls are 'ditching the diaper' and trending towards cheeky. Girls wear those multi-strapped sided near-thongs in droves at Electronic Dance Music Festivals. If you havea decent set of earplugs and a couple extra hundred dollars to spend, I recommend attending one. So amazing!

Re:Rapidly growing thong and semi-thong trend in women Date Posted:11/12/2014 10:03:38Copy HTML If you look at Instagram, especially here in Sweden, fitness and the image that you workout is getting more and more visible.
I´ve got the impression that many girls emphasize on their butt when working out (google "Jen Selter") and with that comes the pride and joy to show it of: In clothing (google "Freddy Wr,up"), pictures (instagram) and on the beach in a "thong". I agree that we will see an increase in smaller swimwear. If we will see thongs on the beach? Yeah, sure but not on all. But when the norm is smaller swimwear more will follow. You´ve probably heared "Strong is the new skinny", with that comes mostly a bigger and firmer butt :) I think we have a bright future before us, when it comes to smaller swimwear! |

Re:Rapidly growing thong and semi-thong trend in women Date Posted:11/12/2014 09:53:07Copy HTML I'm still hoping that victoria's secret will come out with an even smaller bikini bottom than the Itsy that they first introduced in 2013. If they can offer an actual thong cut I think you'll see women wearing them in public a lot more. Lots of women like myself enjoy wearing scandalous stuff, but it helps when its reinforced by major brands. Also, I have lots of friends that wouldn't buy a bikini unless they could try it on in person. If its available at a major retailer, then I think you'd see them at public pools and beaches all over the place.

Re:Rapidly growing thong and semi-thong trend in women Date Posted:11/14/2014 03:29:39Copy HTML I certainly have noticed the increasing popularity of cheeky, almost thong bikinis foe ladies this past year. Normally, the only buns I saw at the beach were when on vacation to Miami Beach. Or when my wife wears thongs to the beach. However this past summer, I saw many, many girls and ladies wearing cheeky, scrunchy bottoms at our local beaches and neighborhood pool. Regardless of their figure, the style just looks sexier and makes a female ass look so nice. The best thing is that I notice girls who wear the cheeky bottoms often 'allow' them to creep up into a thong so even though they aren't wearing a thong, they're playfully exposing as much as they would in a thong. I certainly hope the style trend continues in 2015 because seeing all these buns at the beach and pool is wonderful.

I wore a white cheeky/scrunchy suit I got from TeenyBikini to our townhouse pool party this summer and three girls came up to me and asked where I got the suit as they had been looking for something like this but hadn't been able to find something like it. I also got some dirty looks from some older women but I think they were pissed their husbands were checking me out. My husband thought I looked very hot.

Re:Rapidly growing thong and semi-thong trend in women Date Posted:12/02/2014 05:05:19Copy HTML While I readily admint that I enjoy seeing skimpier swimsuits on women, I don't think this will necessarily translate over to the men's styles. This past summer I still saw 99% mostly big baggy swimsuits on men wherever I went. Also, over the past decade or two it's become increasingly ok for women to display their "form" in more clingy, tighter styles. It's not uncommon in the U.S. to see women all over in public wearing tights as pants, and the jeans and pants that women wear are so stretchy and tight that they are practically indistinguishable from tights even when wearing more "formal" pants. And their shorts have gotten shorter and shorter and the waistline lower and lower. It seems to me that body-conscious wear has, once again, gotten the approval of society, but men still have to cover up in big and bulky. One more example. Probably 10-15 years ago I got a couple tank tops to run in that had a "racer back" or narrow y-shaped back. I really liked them because they let a lot of air flow around my upper body on extended runs, and, darn it, I think I looked pretty good in them. (and yes, they were bought in the men's department) Now the only place you will find them is in the women's section and I never see any guys wearing them. All the exercise tops for men are t-shirts with sleeves (usually big and bulky) and if its a sleeveless t-shirt it has a neck line right up to your neck. You can't even find them in a v-neck. You might find the occasional outdoor basketball game where a guy will wear an oversize tank top--usually with big, baggy shorts--but even then many times I've seen a tank top worn over a sleeved t-shirt, even on a hot summer day. What's up with that? Pardon my cynicism, but for men I'll beleive more "body conscious" styles are accepted for men when I see it. If anything, I fear it may widen the gap. That is tight and revealing=feminine, big bulky and sloppy=masculine.

"If anything, I fear it may widen the gap. That is tight and revealing=feminine, big bulky and sloppy=masculine".
Is this really a problem? Like most guys, I find women in brief swimwear aesthetically pleasing, though what I most admire is the confidence of those women who wear less than what society expects, whether it be a thong at an Olympic pool or an older or more fuller figure unconcernably wearing a brief conventional bikini at the beach. In Australia anyone can legally wear a g-string at virtually any beach and sunning in same at a majority of public pools does not cause the sky to fall. If guys wears huge shorts because that what fashion dictates, good luck to them. I don’t mind standing out in the crowd. Reasonable people of both sexes don’t really care what I wear and the occasional woman who really appreciates my attitude just makes my day. At age 17 if I'd decided to wait for thongs to become even borderline fashionable for guys before wearing them, then 40 years on I'd still be waiting! |

Re:Rapidly growing thong and semi-thong trend in women Date Posted:12/03/2014 07:06:36Copy HTML They are definitely a trend on Australian beaches this summer ;)
More so the wider wedgie look, but as summer gets warmer, there are certainly more sightings of very cheeky styles, and some proper thong styles (I think they realise after wearing a wide wedgie, they might as well have a thong on...makes more sense) While checking the surf yesterday, two 18-20 yo girls got out of their car on bikinis, carrying their towels, and covered only in loose tops that came to about half way down their backsides. On one I could see all skin, no bikini bottom from the back. They walked down the steps in front of me to the sand, dropped their towels, and took off the tops to go swimming. One had a nice smallish bikini, and the one I could see bare cheeks on was wearing a proper thong, tie-sides and triangle string top. Absolutely beautiful ;) This was on Newcastle Beach, which is very crowded. I see them nearly every single time I go to the beach now, and not just mine! Only a couple of guys unfortunately, but I'm sure I can help change that... |

Re:Rapidly growing thong and semi-thong trend in women Date Posted:12/04/2014 04:01:58Copy HTML Grabeach: Yes, this really is a problem for those of us males who would like to enjoy minimal swimwear at the beach or pool without getting hassled or outright told to cover up or leave. Indeed I also like to see women in minimal swimwear, but much of the posts on this site involves mutual support between us men to wear small swimwear. Indeed it takes a certain amount of an "I don't care what people think" attitude to wear minimal swimwear that is out of the conventional, but, as you can read all throughout this board, the struggle can get tiring. I'm glad that attitudes seem to be more accomodating in Australia and I hope that spreads throughout the world. But many places are not as fortunate.

Slim, I sometimes forget that even though Australians
slavishly follow overseas (these days mostly US) fashion and entertainment
trends, we fortunately do seem to have a large disconnect between what we do and what we tolerate.
Thong swimwear is a classic case. Although the trend for women is again
increasing, it’s still not that popular, but appears to be appreciated by most.
Men wearing thongs number close to zero, but when one does, very few care. Fewer
than even I expected. I need to remember that in other places
popularity and tolerance can be much more closely related.

Re:Rapidly growing thong and semi-thong trend in women Date Posted:12/27/2014 04:54:23Copy HTML TeenyB is very expensive but the bottoms fit great if you want to show off your cheeks. You could just buy the bottoms and mix it with a less expensive top from another store. Take a look at the half pucker bottoms if you don't want to go the extreme of the whaletail bottom which exposes a lot of cheek.

Re:Rapidly growing thong and semi-thong trend in women Date Posted:12/28/2014 04:11:06Copy HTML Haha, yeah there's nothing extreme about whaletail for me. If I bought them, they would be some of my least revealing bikinis aside of the ones I have from V.S. for use around my family. Most of my bikinis are string thongs with either triangle backs or g-strings. I like companies where I have a little more authority to customize the colors like dirtybird bikinis, dubiobikinis, skinzwear, and microkitten. I also found a really good tailor who has made 4 of my bikinis from V.S. into thongs, which I love.

Re:Rapidly growing thong and semi-thong trend in women Date Posted:01/11/2015 08:33:31Copy HTML Cheeky swimsuits are a big trend also in France. Many young women wear them because cheeky swimsuits are more acceptable than thongs, even if the cheeky swimsuits are rapidly converted into thong.
What is new is before the sexy swimwear were limited to summer, and only in the beach. The cheeky swimsuits are also seen in the winter, in the indoor public swimming pool. Some famous swimwear brands sell now cheeky swimwear for women. There are more and more teen who wear cheeky swimwear for training. I hope that some swimwear brands will offer also cheeky swimwear for men. It is certain that it will never become a trend for men, but if you can already find a few men cheeky swimwear, it will be enough for me. |

Re:Rapidly growing thong and semi-thong trend in women Date Posted:01/27/2015 07:55:51Copy HTML I was flipping through the tv channels this weekend. I came upon a women's gymnastics competition. So I watched it for a while. I thought I was looking at ladies on the beach wearing the cheekiest of cheeky one-piece bathing suits. I saw more of these ladies bottoms than you usually see at any pool during the summer. I couldn't believe it. You would expect the bottoms of their uniforms to ride in a bit during their performance. So, I expected them to pull out the suit to put it back to where it belonged, and most did. But, when they did, their suits didn't look any wider or offer any more coverage.
I think that it's an overall and everywhere shrinking of the bottom coverage that is going on. Every where you look, it seems like the suit bottoms are getting smaller. Not just on the beach or at the pool. Men's competition swim briefs are getting smaller too. I saw a Speedo swim brief on ebay last night that was about as small as I've seen. Hopefully, it's a trend that keeps going and getting smaller. One thing that might be driving the push for smaller bottom coverage are tights. You see them on 95% of the ladies out there these days. Okay, that percentage might be a bit high, but it's pretty high. If you think about tights, they show off the body more than a thong does or anything else for that matter. They look painted on. Don't they? If a lady can go out wearing a pair of tight that shows everything from their waste down, then wearing a smaller bikini bottom shouldn't be a be deal either. Am I making since? |

Re:Rapidly growing thong and semi-thong trend in women Date Posted:01/28/2015 05:00:29Copy HTML For North America, I believe the trend was started by the celebrities who were motivated by financial return. More skin/cheek usually equals more money in advertising. Combine that with the fact that more people are into fitness than ever before and want to show off their hard work, the awesome trend is the result. In addtion, we all know that fashion trends are cyclical every 20-25 years. It tends to happen right as a generation that was too young to know the trend comes of age. So, thongs on the beach again....right on time !!!
I'm just happy that thongs and g-strings this time around are cut better than the last time, there are more choices for men and I'm still in good enough shape to partake. I seriously doubt that I will be able to wear thongs 20-25 years from now when I'm 70. Hopefully, we can make it last forever this time !!!!! |

Re:Rapidly growing thong and semi-thong trend in women Date Posted:01/31/2015 09:47:52Copy HTML Here in Norway this is also a growing trend. Especially if you look at all the thousands of young women who are into fitness and have profiles on Instagram, I see that a great many of these sport some sort of thong or g-string on their beach pictures and so on. They also proudly show off their butts and legs in only underwear, which are mostly thongs, as progress pictures from their hours spent in the gym. Now that all these women have started lifting weights, shaping their body's, growing muscular butts, many of whom enter fitness contests, which has become immensely popular in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and so on, they are proudly showing off their body's and it seems as a result they have started wearing smaller and smaller bikinis to show off. I saw lots of women wearing thongs to the beach here in Norway last summer, and I'm looking forward to next summer to see even more of this growing trend. I have also observed that the amount of underwear/bikini companies who design thong style beach wear for the lady's have started popping up everywhere. A few examples are Boutinela and Chooksla which can be followed on Instagram. I really welcome this and hope to see even more of it in the years to come. Another nice thing is that more and more women have started lifting weights and started taking proper care of their body's, so the Nordic women are just getting hotter and hotter!

Re:Rapidly growing thong and semi-thong trend in women Date Posted:02/16/2015 12:54:14Copy HTML It looks like 2015 is going to be a really great year for thongs and more reasonable swimwear in general.
At the beach I normally go to, the whole summer last year I saw maybe 1 woman in a thong, 1 topless, and maybe 1 or 2 guys in box-cut swim trunks. But on the first decent beach day in 2015, it's like a light switch came on. Just in one day there was easily more than 20 thongs, just about as many topless, and a large portion of the guys were either in box-cut swim trunks or speedos.I was still the only guy that I noticed in a thong, but people seemed to notice far less than last year. There was even one guy who came in knee length board shorts ended up removing them in favor of his trunk cut boxer briefs, seemingly so he'd fit in with his friends better. |

Re:Rapidly growing thong and semi-thong trend in women Date Posted:02/16/2015 05:55:16Copy HTML Baker Beach in San Francisco. It's part clothing optional, which is the part I go to. But since it's pretty urban and crowded it's not really a thoroughly nude beach, beach goers just sort of divide themselves into if they are liberal or conservative regarding nudity. Comparing the crowd this year to last has been night and day though. Last year was easily 95% male and 80% over age 40. This year it looks like wayyyy more people my age (20s) are partaking in the more liberal side of the beach.

Re:Rapidly growing thong and semi-thong trend in women Date Posted:02/17/2015 04:16:22Copy HTML It absolutely is a trend. Semi-thongs are popping up everywhere since victoria's secret started selling out of them online, the Miami Beach Week fashion show has been heavily featuring thongs and semi-thongs for the last three years, about 50 different female celebrities have shown off thongs in public, Sports Illustrated has featured a ton of thongs for the past two years including on last year's cover, and anyone who goes on instagram will see women posting thong selfies on the beach and at pools. One-piece thong bathing suits have come back in style, and thongs and semi-thongs are starting to show up as far north as the Maryland beaches I go to on the weekends. When I go to South Beach, the number of thongs has increased from just a handful on the beach when I first went in 2009 to about 30-40 percent of women when I went last fall. I no longer feel daring and singled out when I wear a micro bikini in most places. I wore a thong bikini in Delaware in September and I wasn't the only one....and thongs are illegal in Delaware.
The thong trend hasn't become an overwhelming trend yet to the point where you see a MAJORITY of young women wearing them on any given beach American, but it's definitely a trend, and celebrities are absolutely leading the charge with it. It has a lot to do with the fact that the number of women lifting weights and growing muscular butts through squats and similar exercises has skyrocketed in the last few years due to fitness crazes such as crossfit. I love the trend because I started training heavy in 2008, and has gone from 36 inches all the way to a muscular 42-43 inches right now. This also goes along with the huge booty trend in the media. 10 years ago, women weren't getting butt implants or brazilian butt lifts. Now, having a big butt is so in style that women are spending thousands of dollars or thousands of hours in the gym just to try to keep up with female celebrities with extremely large butts such as Nikki Minaj, Kim Kardashian, Iggy Azalea, Coco etc. They may look gross or unhealthy to some, but the fact that they're popular and being copied demonstrates the shift in American physical ideals in the last 5 years. |
