Slimsuit, all I really felt the need to report on was my experience - if you want a fun, care-free time on a beautiful beach, come over to San Francisco sometime. Things have gotten a lot more thong friendly here over the last year or so.
I could give a long defense of the existence of the trend, but really just look and see for yourself wherever people under 30 are talking about and showing off their swimwear, particularly on Instagram. Just search #swimwear and you'll get a pretty good sense of what young people are wearing these days! and I guarantee there will be a lot more cheek than if you were to do the search 2 years ago.

I was on the sand at Panama City Beach on Sunday and Monday. It is the beginning of spring break time for students. From what I saw the semi thong and thong trend has caught on with the college women. In a one hour span I saw no less than 18 young women in these bikinis while only about 5 women in the more traditional bikinis. This held true for all the time I was on the beach for two days, many more women in thongs and semi thongs than I could have ever expected. This gives me hope for the summer.

Its definitely happening. It will be interesting to see if guys start to move away from the long board shorts, but then again most guys are shy about showing their "Package". If women were the same about their breasts or the shape of their "bits" imagine what the beach would look like!?  I'm not at all shy about what I've got and I think most men are ridiculously conservative and self conscious but I'm clearly in the minority, as are probably most of the other guys on this forum. But that's not going to stop me! lol... A thoning I will go! ;-)

Right now it's the beginning of spring break in Fort Lauderdale. This last week we had quite a lot of students on the beach, in this next two weeks we expect the numbers to be much higher.

The girls and boys are not locals, so the swimsuit styles tend to reflect what they had from last summer, in whatever northern city they come from.
Even so, the big trend seems to be for small bikini bottoms, scrunchie backs, and some thongs.  They are tourists from the North, so you don't see very many of them with what we consider to be a classic thong, but a lot of them come close.

It is still true that the guys are almost universally in board shorts. However I've noticed an interesting trend:  When I run through the dense crowds a spring break kids I get a lot of hoops and hollers, but not just from the girls.  A lot of the guys, who in years past might've responded negatively, are some of the most vocal in cheering me on.

In the same way that there has been a massive inversion in US public opinion about gay marriage, especially among younger Americans, there seems to be a rapidly growing acceptance of thong swimsuits on guys.  It's very common for girls to come up and ask if they can have a picture with me, but lately young guys coming up and ask too. Not gay guys, but regular college kid 'bros'. The sort of lads who in years past would have ignored me, or made some rude comment either directly to me or to their friends.

While spring break is still a venue for young women to be very girly, and young men to be very manly, I find it delightful that I'm not getting negative comments and do get lot of positive feedback.  I now feel comfortable in taking my after run coffee and wandering into the midst of the spring break crowd. I am often asked if people can have their picture taken with me, but also asked to join in with activities. Last Tuesday I was playing volleyball with an energetic group of young women.

The other trend in bikinis for this year is the neon structural bikini with the black outline.  Something like this:
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/74520568810299326/
or
http://wheretoget.it/link/1239364
but with multiple different colors of neon panels in one suit, more like the on the left of this picture:
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/534098837034237638/
or
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/91549804901499845/

The attraction seems to be the structured bikini top, which has a corset like features,
lifting up the tits and projecting them forward, making them seem fuller, rounder, and more prominent.

The other noticeable new bikinis this year are ladder-back bikini tops.
Like this one from Target that they STUPIDLY no longer stock:

https://thehunt.insnw.net/app/public/system/note_images/1681751/note_preview/598915de797e332ee36035e02349eb87.jpg

Victoria secret is making a ladder-back top, but with what they call a "flounce", which is a skirt around the tits.
Most awful thing, commonly worn by fat girls. Nice back, stupid front.
I think of it as a mini mumu dress for the tits.

Ugh I friggin HATE the flounce.  They did come out with a high leg itsy.  It looked really good on Candice Swanpoel in the VS swimsuit special from a week or two ago. I'm considering emailing or writing in to them requesting that they make a legitimate thong back bikini called the "Itsy Ipamena".  I would suggest it looks something like this:
http://www.nvrstrings.com/vamp_thong_bikinis.html

If they release an actual thong, there will be some women that will turn up their noses, but there will be MANY that will take it as a signal that it's finally ok to wear one on the beach.  Plus, the fact that their bathing suits are available in stores means that women can try them on.  That's huge.  I had having to re-order thong bikinis in different sizes because there was no way for me to try it on the first time.  This is especially true with V.S. suits.  A lot of the tops have irregular cup sizing and the bottoms are sometimes made of a heavier material that can really dig into your hips if you don't get exactly the right size.  I love the colors and styles they come out with, I just wish the cuts of the bottoms were available in thongs.  Especially the triangle top with the string bottom.  If they could make that in a side tie thong, that would sell off the shelves.

I think those pattern hot colored black outline bikinis are from the late 80's remembered my sis owning some. Think styles and trends are definitely changing to brighter bolder colors like the 80's spandex leotard thong craze at the gyms.

Whenever department discount stores start stocking thongs or tiny rio/tanga bikinis woman will be forced to buy and wear them. Just browse through a Marshalls store in your city notice the swimwear section and see if any rio back bottoms are in stock or thongs. Woman always shop for their vacation during before March break and stores are beginning to feel out stock levels of new swimwear. Moving different style merchandise seeing what sells or stays on the rack later to be discounted for late mid spring orders for younger beach summer honey's with less income.

Hope it's all true because beach attire is universal around the world seeing in South beach FLA will be seen in Timbuktu sooner or later. We here on this forum communicate what's trending at our beach we frequent giving a great projection of styles we will be seeing.

Being a pessimist i really doubt majority of woman will be wearing a thong in public. Reason being woman don't tan like they use to, applying chemical toxic sunscreen on their bodies to absorb, all while keeping a pale complexion. Minimal swimwear cut or styles getting little tan lines doesn't need to exist today as many did in the past.

It maybe a fluke but I noticed a younger female at my gym pool wore a rio cheeky bikini bottom that might as well been called a thong.  I need to up my game getting cheekier swim bottoms for me to swim in.

JM_Runs, its GREAT to hear that that was your reaction at spring break! Good on you for flying the flag for all of us less confident MALE thongers. :)  Awesome to hear you had such a positive experience and invoked such nice reactions from the young guys and gals. Take note Thongbikingirl ;-) It just reinforces my own experience and thoughts at the beach today (see my post in beaches of Australia). I hope all the guys on this forum who want to thong at the beach take note and take heart from what you have shared. Bravo - thank you.

Talked to some more of the girls on the beach today about bikini styles.
These are not the bikinis in question, but it is a picture of me with the young women from Spring Break:

The bikinis with the black outline and neon panels come from a few sources:

The first of which is "Triangl". http://international.triangl.com/

Of which I think the most striking colors on a well tanned body is the Pink Lemonade
http://international.triangl.com/collections/swimwear/products/poppy-pink-lemonade
or the Poppy Blue Crush

The tops are striking. It seems to be the Neoprene in the fabric that gives the suits structure.

The bottoms are not as special and Triangl NEEDS to introduce some good thong options.
Similar bikini available from Victoria Secret, with a much better bottom.  This top

when paired with the Color Block Itsy bottom is, I think, better than the Triangl gear.  The bottom is briefer in the back and a lot sexier.
https://www.victoriassecret.com/swimwear/bandeau/the-colorblock-itsy-beach-sexy?ProductID=226502&CatalogueType=OLS

Victoria Serect's style naming system leaves a lot to be desired. They call any Brazil backed bottom an 'Itsy', even though they share noting about color, fabric, cut or style.

And here is a much cheaper version from China:
The other trend seems to be in multiple spaghetti strap sides, something a bit like this:

Although Jezebel had something to say about the resulting tan lines:
http://jezebel.com/the-strappy-swimsuit-trend-creates-the-worlds-worst-tan-1585463004

I am not saying thongers should go buy these swimsuits.
These are just some observations on, and sources for, one of the more striking bikini styles for the Spring Break crowed.

That link has some good examples of the smaller scrunchy back bikinis I see all the time on the beach.
I have long ago given up trying to make a distinction between thongs and g-strings on men. I call all of mine thongs, and consider myself a thonger, even though a lot of you would consider many of the thongs I wear to be g-strings.

In the same way there is no clear dividing line between the smaller scrunchy back suits and the more traditional thongs.  They are ALL good !!

I think this trend will stick around. Young women don't want to dress like their mothers, even on the beach. The scrunchy back is most assuredly an under 30 trend. It says "This is not your mothers backside."  Hopefully it is hear to stay for a few years.

As young women gain confidence in these suits they will probably migrate to true thongs and g-strings, but if they don't who cares.

The only thing that might derail the trend is if TMZ or one of these paparatzi websites starts to mock a star in a scrunchy back swimsuits as a 'wardrobe malfunction' or fashion faux pas.

I think that will not happen because trend is very visible on my beach, and it tends to be the cute confident young women wearing them, not so much the over 30's.

Movies take a few years from shooting to release. Movies run in cycles. Right now we seem to be burning through improbable comic book superheros.
We seem overdue for a new cycle of 'beach blanket' movies.  Hopefully if they do appear it will establish the scrunchy back bikini for the girls and something other than knee length board shorts for the boys.

 @Thongbikinigirl:

Isn't this what's known as a tanga? When I was in Brazil in 1979/1980 lots of the women, and quite a few men, wore the, on the beach, and that's the name they called them by. I have a couple in that style from Skinzwear, and they even call it the "Rio" style.

I like the concept- it's a nice compromise between the "in your face" nature of a thong, and the more conservative arse covering offered by the standard bikini or trunk. I imagine the tanga would be good for someone just trying to summon up the confidence to go down the thong route - be a little daring and cheeky to begin with, see what the reaction is and how well you handle it.

I live in a fairly conservative area. When I see women in g-strings out at the beach, I know times are a changin! Last year I went to a beach that I will call "Redneck Beach," where people from a trailer court go, and a lady was walking around with no care in the world in a g-string. Progress happens!

My observations about women in thongs so far this summer are minimal because I have been working a lot of OT and the weather has been not all that good in the midwest so far this year. It seems that location is a big factor on what percentage of women wear thongs. At the beaches, thongs seem quite common on women compared to past years. At first I thought most of these women were alone or with friends about thier age, but even those with family members seem to be comfortable showing their rear ends. Another place where thong wearing has gone up is places with high volumes of young people, like some private pools and swim lakes. It seems that "no thong" rules are generally being ignored, probably because after a year with little or no income from the admitance and other sales, these places must accomodate things they don't care for. It could also be because of the general acceptance of women's thongs and so they are going with the trend. While these places seem to be a good indication that thongs are "up", I also have noticed that in some situations like some public parks, nature trails, and other spots where swimwear was often worn in the past, that thongs have not increased or even slipped to a lower percentage of women. However, it seems that cheeky swimwear, some exposing half a women's butt have gone up in almost all locations.

While I’ve noticed an increase of thongs on social media, I’m yet to see it in person. I was at the beach yesterday and, while the beach was very busy, I saw only one thong and one or two cheeky bikinis. There was possibly another thong on a very athletic girl that walked past but her backpack was riding low and it was hard to tell the exact coverage of her suit. Most of the guys were in board shorts so it feels like there’s some way to go before I start seeing the thong and semi-thong trend here.

Thong wearing has seem to pick up at our local Reservoir in the last few years. Spring time is the most popular before it gets stupid hot is the best time. I’ve seen lots of thongs cheekies on boats but along the road in a few areas, girls are laying out in the grass in thongs. As far as beaches, it all depends on the beach you go to. For sure have seen a increase of thongs walking around Pensacola and at the beaches.

Never believe i could observe a trend of growing thong wearing amongst females. Often it's all about timing, location places i frequent. Riding my bicycle to  a c/o beach taking the shoreline passing many parks, pools textile beaches. This gives me an idea what fashion styles females wear as swimwear or any other type of casual activewear. From the shoes, tops or shorts i can gather understanding what is trending in particular time.

Beachwear is very subjective to many females but one thing is for sure if your body is overweight more fabric is used to cover up. Years of observation i believed more fabric on females was result of threat of ozone depletion in atmosphere and UV rays fear of getting skin moles or freckling. Then i believed it was the pandemic of obesity among the population feeling self conscious about their bodies.

Remembered in early 1980's to the  90's beach goers had darker skin tone then today's population not black vs white but people who tan deeply. This had no result in seeing less clothing worn to gain better overall tan at least what i've seen.
Slowly the skin tone became paler and since many used sunblock not having any tan lines in fact many leaving the beach whiter than they arrived if that is possible on sunny summer day.

As twenty years from 90's- 10's the thonging was rare find on a beach only exhibitionist or some gal with lots of confidence wore it sticking out from the crowd.
Some females did wedge their full bikini bottoms while laying on the towels on the beach only to return to normal full coverage when walking or in the water. This gave me the sense woman liked the idea and freedom to wear a thong but didn't feel safe or wanted attention from others with regards to their backsides.
When social media posts of females have become more prevalent as influencers and  gaining lots of followers in the accounts. One predominant trend was the booty shot often in thongs underwear, bikinis. This catapulted that whatever your size big or small their is popularity observing tolerated applauding female in a thong not to be shamed. In fact it is normal selfie females do to gain followers or attention.  This gained momentum that thongs are piece of clothing every young  female should take to.

As i look at my first weekend beach outdoor summer adventure observing the population. Could be the long lockdowns or pandemic that gave females pause they should do things differently, despite their growing waistline.. As i drove on trail by the shoreline around a park seen two gals separately in the middle of the baseball field laying out in bikini one wearing conservative thong other in string bikini on her back unknown if it was a thong. Passing a outdoor pool seen not one thong wearer lining up to enter the pool all shapes and sizes. On the best day i might see one gal in a thong in a pool full of 200 hundred people. While maybe two or three guys in speedo bikini.

When i finally arrived on clothing optional beach at 12;40 pm i camped out nearby two obese females in string triangle back thongs laying together.  As the beach goers kept arriving about hour i began to observe the trend of thongers as i was laying in tiniest string y-back from boy strings. Found few groups surrounding me as i laid on my side eating lunch gave me opportunity to look on both ends of the beach. The regular cast of characters i've seen for years as well new groups in packs of five females. In these younger  packs seen at least two gals in v-thongs not one scrunched wedgies from their bikinis from those in full bottom coverage.  Seen first ladies  one piece thong from female another with cheekier side. One male in a one piece thong which looked odd confused me if it was  male one piece or female swimsuit thong as he got lots of stares walking along the shoreline.

My take is females that want to thong can now easily choose to wear one without any care someone is staring. There is at least one young gal wearing a thong in a group which is far cry from years ago of less than 5% to 10% of ladies on a c/o  beach which was the ratio of nude people. As for noticing male in a thong well that's still unusual.  Don't include myself as thong wearer since i was trying to gain sun attaining tan lines on my lighter skin which i didn't focus on gaining attention. Those thonger regular gals noticed me caught their attention since  they expect to observe me nude different view with the thong. Lot of females either recognized me from previous years or were checking me out longer unlike when i stand nude. Someone told me the intrigue from the ladies gauging male size in thong they need to stare longer. When nude glance upon me will suffice and not bring upon attention to them, clearly notice i'm exhibitionist wanting attentions.

I think body positivity has played a role in this trend. A few years ago, you  would only see thongs on models and strippers. Nowadays, you see thongs on a variety of women, and thanks to body positivity, curvy women have the courage to wear thongs in public.

I am also seeing thongs at regular textile beaches. A few years ago, thong wearing was exclusive to certain beaches. Nowadays, thongs can be seen at any textile beach.

Amen, Brother! Body positive attitudes have changed what people wear tot he beach. I’ve seen many more “curvy” women women wear thongs recently. They look great too. I think they should have been wearing cheeky or thong cuts all along. To often in the past women that looked wonderful but had more curves would wear swimwear that covered to much, in my opinion, making them not look as great as they could in a skimpier cut. I’m happy to see this trend. Now if only men would discover the same thing.

I think for some women thong wearing is all about an ego trip. Everyone knows those beaches where only the beautiful people go. I remember biking around a lake in Minneapolis and coming upon a young woman in a g-string lying buns up in the grassy area by Thomas Beach. She had a nearly fully clothed friend sitting next to her telling her who was looking. Apparently someone rich and/or famous was nearby and headed in her direction. She must have been in a rush as she had a little ring around you know what. I rode up to make some small talk and they both ignored me completely so I rode off. This was back in the '90s and g-strings/thongs were still pretty rare.

Wow, so some of you think "some women's thong wearing is all about an ego trip"? Because they were not interested in talking to you? People have suggested that I wear thongs because I get a kick out of people looking at me. That's not why I were thongs. I was wearing thongs privately before I ever wore them publicly. However I do get a kick out of the complements: "Nice buns", "Cute Suit", "Good Legs", "Sexy", "Nice package", etc. I do enjoy the smiles, thumbs up, cheers and interaction with people who would otherwise just ignore another old man. Having lived in America for many years I have seen a marked change in the attitudes of people to men in thongs. Yesterday while paddle boarding around and hanging out at the sand bar I got given a good rum-punch, a Hawaiian flower lei, and lots of offers of beers. I was cheered by about 50 people from a party on a pontoon, who were wading on the sandbar, and then some lady insisted in putting money in my thong and giving me a friendly spank, which she managed as I paddled by. (Your millage may vary). Does this boost my ego? Yes. Yes it does. Over the years I have become far more relaxed about accepting complements, from both men and women. I grew up wearing speedos in the English summer, in a generation that believed in equality for women, and when teens dressed definition of androgynously: We all wore flared jeans, polo-neck sweaters in the winter and had long hair, girls and guys. What was good for one was good for the other. Yes there were differences, but we all wore tight underwear, both boys and girls, and all wore short tight swimwear. There were no board shorts. While being seen and complemented was not my original goal, which was more of being as naked as allowed and getting an overall tan, I have come to enjoy the complements. Do women also enjoy the looks, smiles and joy they bring to others? Probably so. Does that boost our egos? Yes. (Again your millage may vary.) I am occasionally irritated by ultra-conservitives, but aren't we all. So not only do I enjoy the smiles and complements, I also get the occasional kick from irritating some self-righteous prick who want's to tell me he or she does not approve of men in thongs, while they ogle the women in thongs. If they see enough men in thongs often enough maybe they will get over it. But this is not my problem but their problem, in their head. Equality means equal pay, equal voting rights, equal access to housing, equal respect for all, male, female, gay, straight, black, brown or white. This in turn means equal access to thong swimwear. And we are going to keep putting thongs in front of you until you accept the equality. It is the racists, sexists, homophobes and unfortunately many religions, who think they are better than others. The people who have opinions on what others should do and wear. One rule for themselves and one for others. These people need to be reminded that the artificial divisions in their brain may not apply to others who don't subscribe to their world view. When ever possible we should 'tweak the nose' by exposing them to other points of views and bodies. Men and women in thongs. Women who go topless, with partly transparent tops, or suits that go transparent when wet. (Not such a good idea for because of US laws and the external nature of the male sex organs.) The growing trend towards cheekier and cheekier bottoms on women's swimsuits, both bikinis and one piece, means more thongs too. The other trend towards bikini tops with cutouts, transparent panels and other ways of minimizing the tops to match the bottoms is wonderful. While outright top-free is extraordinarily rare in the USA, (except for a few established locations), the proliferation of exotic and micro tops is heading that way. Women are leading the way and I am quietly cheering from the sideline. It is about time we got over telling young women how to dress "appropriately". Let them be free.

I think by "Semi-Thong" you mean cheeky Brazil/Rio cuts. See those more and more. Saw one on a lady by the lake before some Church group came down and Baptized people....

Regarding ego wearing a thong.  I wear a skimpy bikini at a public beach because I enjoy being an exhibitionist.  It's exciting for me.  I have worked out all my adult life and I am proud of my body and like to show off.  But it has to be someplace like Miami Beach where it is common.  If I don't feel comfortable at a beach I will cover up if I get up and walk some where - I'll just tan in the skimpy bikini.

If I am alone at the beach I still like to wear a skimpy bikini.  It's still fun.

Agree with ego wearing a thong. Some rich posh gals get upset or in shock when male can wear a thong like them or better they can. I mentioned experiences with gals being jealous of me even being ignored ruthlessly rooted their dislike of male in a thong. Nothing you can say or do to make others accept your thonging lifestyle only continuing living the way you are not apologizing for your style. Lesson I learn go to more accepting beaches finding less resistance or criticism being left alone without to much of a fuss. Even when I sense I may have crossed the line in situations. People sense that want to put me in my place. Takes tough mindset to believe in yourself regardless of the pointing fingers. Remember a bad experience at the beach when young couple paused to comment when I was leaving the beach miserable and sad from the obvious critics commentary as I walked the shoreline all afternoon. They told me as they overheard negativity from others knowing how it affected me deeply. Saying, don’t listen to all these people today on the beach they are just jealous, envious of your beautiful body. Keep doing what you are wear it eventually tide will turn. While thanking them I suppose people found the harsh criticisms unfair or unjust. Although did overhear arguments with people about some voicing their negative opinions. Just didn’t know who were the people fighting for my freedom to wear or not wear on c\o beach. Difficult for anyone to enjoy a great sunny day. When bored couples are bored and feel I’m easy pickings to tear down. Others may find it difficult to listen and need to say something. I know I will never defend myself to others in direct opposition to their views or beliefs. My best medicine is keep strutting doing what I’m doing and let them chatter among themselves..

Well there is such a thing as a "beautiful people's" area. I have heard Hunnington Beach in L.A. is like that. Funny how I went to Santa Monica and there were few white people there besides the lifeguards. Just some woman in a thong and topless getting her picture taken in and out of the waves. She had no chest. Somehow I think she was on a bus back to Omaha a couple weeks after that....no boobs, no work in Hollywood!

MNluvthongs: thankfully, there is rising backlash against this pervasive idea that a woman must have large breasts to be beautiful, employable, etc. There have been articles published showing that implants cause massive problems, not only because they leak or move, but because they add completely useless mass to the human body. The large breast obsession seemed to begin in the 70's, resulting in many women having silicone implants. Then they started leak, etc. causing all kinds of health problems. There was an initial backlash against them for that, but it didn't change anything in Hollywood. The industry shifted to alternatives, like saline implants, which are less risky, but again still add foreign objects to the body without increasing its function in any way. Hopefully, more people are waking up to how revolting the very idea of going under the knife to satisfy a fetish is, thus will reject augmentation entirely and outright. Even transgender females don't require surgical implants because the hormones they use cause breast growth.

In the movie It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad world, Terry Thomas, an actor in the movie spends several minutes discussing the American obsession with women's breasts. This film came out in 1963 so the lines probably were written in 1962 or even earlier. (Good movie, often on Turner Classic Movies without commericals. It has virtually every comedian from the era taking part in the film.) But even before that movie, just look at the Marilyn Monroe, Jane Russell, and all the pin-up girls from WWII and from later movies, magazines, and Tv shows. It seems it was almost mandatory form women at that time to have at least above average breasts. nospam_TN1 is right about implants and their early problems, and obviously the women who got them did so in the belief that it made them more attractive. Today, "Boob Jobs" are with us more than ever before. They seem to be safer than in the past, cost less when inflation is inclused and are not considered quite normal and not a big deal. Women talk not only with each other, but also at times with others, including strangers and men they don't really know about having had their "boobs fixed". An extremely well done boob job may not be all that noticable most of the time. A bad job can ruin a woman's life. This procedure serves only one purpose but has become so frequenly done that even poorly done work is accepted. It is sort of like tattoos. Some are real works of art, well, done and real attention getters. Others are poorly done, perhaps even obscene, and yet most people accept people with them no matter how well or poorly they are done.

Women wearing cheeky bikinis or semi-thongs are quite common at the beaches I frequent. The material doesn't disappear into their butt cracks but about 80% of their butt is exposed. I was at a Tiki Bar at a resort yesterday afternoon. It was right beside the beach plus there were two pools. I saw at least two young women in very cheeky bikinis. They seems totally uninhibited about what they were wearing (or not wearing). I like the cheeky look more than a thong. All the men were in boxers, of course.

Sadly, for men, this is seen as weird/gay. Which would be why I'd prefer a desolate beach, to avoid mockery.

Sybok said: "Sadly, for men, this is seen as weird/gay. Which would be why I'd prefer a desolate beach, to avoid mockery." Indeed, sadly true. It's too bad, with all the lip service about accepting diversity, LGBTQ et al, that men are harassed/shunned/shamed/stereotyped because the like wearing minimal swimwear, or even just a bikini, while women obviously have far more options acceptable. JM_Runs said: "I am occasionally irritated by ultra-conservitives, but aren't we all. So not only do I enjoy the smiles and complements, I also get the occasional kick from irritating some self-righteous prick who want's to tell me he or she does not approve of men in thongs, while they ogle the women in thongs. If they see enough men in thongs often enough maybe they will get over it. But this is not my problem but their problem, in their head." Wow, stereotype much? In the Chicago area beaches the acceptance of men in just bikinis, let alone thongs, is glacial if not non-existent, except for one beach: Osterman. This is in Chicago, which is probably one of the more "liberal", and supposedly open-minded Midwest cities. About as "blue" as you can get in these parts. Yet, when wearing a thong at the area beaches (with the exception of Osterman) I've had the cops called on me twice, not to mention the typical snickers, pointing, staring, the "eeeews", etc. I've experienced very few hassles in downstate Illinois, Indiana, Texas and Arizona. In these areas (supposedly "conservative") I've experienced far more of a live and let live attitude. I am glad your thong wearing is working well for you where you live. However, with all due respect, shall we not brand this as only a "conservative" "self-righteous prick" issue, and more appropriately more of a "societal" issue? This is the sort of thing that is dividing this country. We need to get past the left/right, liberal/conservative labels and see this as an ongoing societal issue of body shaming men. Let's all broaden our view, get past the labels, and get to the root cause of the lack of acceptance of men wearing minimal swimwear.

Wait a minute- if we knowingly get rid of this confirmational bias some of us will be out of work-- this is what's making the world go round now!! It's in politics, business, religion- and some people who would not otherwise get ahead are using it to get their agenda / business/ politics ahead. The idea of bias underlying everyone's being is being brought out- and it's sometimes right-- sometimes wrong but in both cases is being exploited! If we label everyone who doesn't like our thongwearing as a Churchlady then we're as foolish as Dana Carvey's character! Believe me there are female strippers who see a guy in a thong and say EWWW! Much of the "liberal" mindset slimsuit is talking about is the self esteem growing from righteousness of some-- saying they're live and let live but if anyone says anything they don't agree with then that thought as "hate" (because I love everyone). Some conservatives now build self esteem on we'renot putting up with that anymore and see that as "being strong". The complete lack of empathy keeps this growing in everything. How many of us would like to hear someone say "I'd like to feel how it would be to wear a thong" Well some may say that-- then if someone says "I wouldn't like to feel that" then some thongers view them as haters-- can't be in between.

I just came back from 3 weeks vacation. I was in France due to COVID.

I saw more thongs on women than I had never seen before.
Long story short, the main facts :
- between 16 y.o. to 25 y.o, it is 1/3,1/3, 1/3 on the beaches. 1/3 thongs, 1/3 cheeky bikini, 1/3 classic bikini.
-  mature women wore thongs too, but they were less numerous in proportion (may be 10% ?)
- for the first year, I saw one piece thongs. It was only mature women (>30 y.o.). They were all fabulous with their OPT.
- girls with thongs act like they have a classic bikini. They go to the bar, they play in the water with male friends, etc.
- I noticed a young lifeguard with a thong bikini. The thong was totally visible.
- a few teenagers (about 14 y.o may-be, obviously under the legal age) were tanning with a thong with their parents.
- when I trekked in the mountain, I saw a lot of girls taking selfies (photo of theirselves) with a thong bikini (in front of a lake, in front of the mountain, etc.). Instagram influence ? Obviously...
- in the campsite, girls walk with their thong between their pitch and the facilities without wearing a cover-up. They washed their dishes wearing only a thong.

Thongs are now totally considered like a normal swimwear.

However, i didn't see any man with a thong swimwear even if I wore my thongs with no issue.

I noticed also that most of the thongs for women came from china seller (aliexpress, etc...).
We asked often why the thong trend grow so quickly. I am convinced that the possibility to buy cheap thongs swimwears, with a lot of choice and options, with a total anonymity, and very easily with online shop encourage some women to buy thong swimwear. It is cheap and easy, so they buy them even if they are not sure to wear them.
And later, they have the nerves to try to wear their thong swimwear when they saw other women with thongs on the beaches.

My observation here over the last few years is that there has been a trend called "regression toward the mean". That means that things tend to move toward the center. For women's swimsuits the center seems to be cheeky swimwear or semi-thongs. There are much fewer full back or even half back suits being worn and many more cheeky thongs. On the other side, the movement is also there. G-string bottoms which used to be seen rather frequently have almost disappeared and true thongs appear to have decreased as well. I have noticed that there are less women going topless as well.

bmicro (post #93) I agree in general with your comments, especially the first part. Many women here have moved from more traditional swimwear and bikinis to cheeky or semithongs. I also believe that the one-piece thongs back suits are also much more popular than one-piece swimwear was recently in the past. In any event, the final results are not in yet. We have a moving target and as women get more comfortable in whatever they like to wear, perhaps wanting to show more or less as time progresses and styles keep getting skimpier in general, and the public perception continues to change, the results can not be considered final. The second point is true here in Ohio as well when it applies to g-strings. It seems that "G"s are a lot less popular than they used to be. This seems to have happened with many of the skimpier thonging styles. I used to wear a "G" all the time, risking getting into issues with onlookers and management type people. Now, I can wear a cheeky suit when I enter into an unknown environment and probably be okay, even when the cheeky suit is tinier than what most other women are wearing. People who accept a woman who is showing off half her buns probably will not have an issue if she shows off 3/4 of them. They might have an issue when most women are wearing conservative full-coverage bikinis and a woman comes along with a full-exposure thong or "G". CHeeky swimwear is a safe option and probably will avoid most anti-exposure issues. Also with so many women wearing them, there is less of a chance of having someone hit on her to be a girl friend or to have sex with. Women wearing cheeky swimwear is something that can be worn without a women being perceived as being "easy", or looking for a mate. So cheeky swimwear is safer than thongs to wear in many cases. However, I do see women -- often the same women -- coming to the beach week after week in cheeky swimwear and eventually moving towards more and more bun exposure. A cheeky swimsuit that used to expose the lower quarter of a ladies butt now covers a half. The women who used to wear a half-exposed cheeky suit is now showing off three-quarters of her buns. And once they get to three-quarters, the move is towards a conservative, but full bun exposure. I agree that the norm is changing, but also see a general move towards more and more bun exposure on the women. To me, this means that the norm is still moving. With no resistance, it seems like normal transision to me. It is only the women who were really comfortable in the smaller suits to start with that are moving into even tinier swimsuits now. Generally, they seem to be with men (husbands? Boyfriends?) and I am sure some of the interest in wearing so little is being either encouraged by their male friend(s) or they are moving forward to impress these men. In any event, some of the issue I think might also be the dreaded tan lines. Few women want to go out with white bottoms when the rest of their bodies are fully tan. (Remember the Copper Tone girl?) So these women either need to spend some time alone in their yard or at a tanning place to get more even tan coverage. The women who have the skimpiest swimwear seem to always have all-over tans and so they are probably less concerned with their tan lines than other women might be. The cheeky swimwear is good for any woman who is not fully comfortable with showing off in a smaller thong, and also women who want to show more but had few choices other than a full bikini or a thong in years past. From this standpoint, there certainly is a common look that accomodates many more women than either a standard bikini or thong did in the past, and so I must agree with much if not most of what bmicro says.

Watching the Olympics last night I saw synchronized swimming for the first time in these games.   This morning I looked up on YouTube  “Olympics synchronized swimming 2021”  .   There’s a video of two American women that pretty much appear to have a OPT.  Last night it was the Russian team.   I don’t understand how the television media can clearly show buttocks on national TV during the games but any other time they would be blurred out.   Are conservative families going to not let their kids watch because they can see buttocks?

I'm not aware of any situation in which a woman in a thong bathing suit is likely to be blurred out on American tv.

I just saw an episode of BIP where a quartering rear shot of a woman in her bikini walking next to a guy had a big black square over her but, so she was obviously wearing a thong or g-string bottom. Then there was another rear shot of a couple walking along the beach. She was wearing a thin swimsuit cover--thin enough you could see she was wearing a thong, but no blurring or black square. Go figure.

Did anyone see Megan Thee Stallion's dress from the Oscars??

https://www.cosmopolitan.com/entertainment/celebs/g63919593/naked-dresses-2025-vanity-fair-oscar-party/

It seems to me that before real topfreedom becomes popular women may use pasties to cover their nipples.
In the 90's this was seen on some S Fla beaches.
