Date Posted:11/02/2013 04:35:07Copy HTML Hi all,I'll be on a business trip in couple of weeks from now in Santiago de Chile. I'll have something like a day and a half off... and I'd like to catch some early summer sun before going back to gloomy winter weather in Europe. Are there any places (parks, beaches) in Santiago or some places easily reachable with public transport to lie down and rest in the sun? Preferably thong-friendly, of course, but any other hints are welcome as well.

Re:Santiago de Chile and nearby areas Date Posted:11/02/2013 06:18:12Copy HTML The swimming pools in Parque Metropolitano de Santiago seem to be nice places to go, especially Piscina Antilén on Chacarillas hill with a panoramic view over the city.
Check out some photos on flickr: http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=antilen%20santiago I know that many hotels and condo buildings have great rooftop swimming pools, but for the more detailed info you should ask the locals who are members of this board. PS Panie Tomku z Krakowa, czy naprawde tak trudno odpowiedziec na wysylane tutaj przeze mnie wiadomosci do Pana? |

Re:Santiago de Chile and nearby areas Date Posted:11/06/2013 11:30:27Copy HTML Hi. Men in thongs (or even speedos) are unpopular in Chile, but it is perfectly legal. Usually locals are more tolerant with foreigners, so just do it. I recommend you the Marriot Hotel next to Parque Arauco (I wore my thong there last year). It has a little swimming pool outdoors but you can sunbathe in the terrace.
Antilén or Tupahe parks are beautiful, but you cannot go there by bus, only by taxi.

Re:Santiago de Chile and nearby areas Date Posted:11/08/2013 11:56:21Copy HTML Viña del Mar (and Reñaca) is around 3 hours by bus (a lot of people from Santiago travel there during weekends between January and February). It is a beautiful beach for sunbathing, but not appropriated for swimming because off its chilling waters (actually all the Chilean coast is chill due to Humboldt current). If you prefer other beach not so exposed, maybe Algarrobo (Canelillo Beach) would be a good idea.

The swimming pools and surrounding areas in Parque Metropolitano are still closed now (mid-November), but Viña del Mar on Sunday was a good choice: strong sun, but quite windy, so not so hot. Some people were actually fully dressed on the beach. I've spotted quite a few thong bikinis on women, but not a single man in thongs, so I had to be the first one :-) No visible reaction or comments from other people. BTW, the Santiago - Viña del Mar bus is more like 90 minutes rather than 3 hours and, yes, on Sunday the buses were full in both directions even though they are quite frequent.

Re:Santiago de Chile and nearby areas Date Posted:11/13/2013 01:42:33Copy HTML You are right, Viña del Mar is only 90 minutes far from Santiago, not 3 hours. Sorry for the misinformation. I am glad you enjoyed the beach.

Re:Santiago de Chile and nearby areas Date Posted:12/28/2025 09:15:40Copy HTML It's been a while since anyone has posted on this thread. I wondered what the situation is for thongs and male thongers on Chile's beaches? |
