I just joined the short shorts club. I bought a Male Power gold lame short shorts, and a  Hustler Fundies plain black short shorts. They fit really nice, but they seem more like underwear than shorts to me. I'll try wearing them in my backyard where neighbors can see me. Maybe I'll work up the courage to wash my car while wearing them one day. Not sure I could ever wear them in the general public like walking in public.

I've uploaded pictures of them to my profile.

They're not really that short, but they ARE shiny (especially the gold pair). You should be fine wearing them out in public when the weather warms up.

Dorefan's comment, ".... seem more like underwear than shorts to me" got me thinking.

Once had a friend who lived near the beach. I often cycled there. Once when meeting her on the beach I forgot my swimmers (g-string), so she ducked home and brought back a pair of her plain black thong undies. Surprisingly, when worn back to front they fitted really well. I ended up riding back to my place in them. On other occasions I was caught in the rain riding to her place. The first time, rather than putting on my wet shorts to ride home, she offered to loan me a pair of her shorts. Couldn't find a pair that fitted, so she said, "You once wore my thong home, you may as well try some of my other undies." Fortunately she preferred plain (no lace!) single colour styles. We then had an interesting time seeing which ones fitted best. As I had to do a bit of shopping on the way home thongs were out. Eventually we chose a pair that she told me were rather ironically called 'boylegs', though on me they actually didn't quite come to the bottom of my bum. No back to front needed with these. They felt really good cycling, and if anyone in the shops had a problem, they didn't mention it to me.

Anyway, I'm suggesting that if you're after revealing shorts, perhaps consider women's undies. Unlike most guys' underwear, some of the women's styles look just like brief spandex shorts - I'm sure I've seen women jogging in just their undies. They come in a range of 'briefness', sizes and a variety of plain colours to suit your mood. And best of all, they cost next to nothing; my wife tells me you can often get a three pack for less than ten dollars.

@Grabeach: You said you wore her thong undies back to front. Wouldn't the narrow thong back expose your equipment when worn that way up front?
Sounds like a fun time trying on her undies ;)

Re:Short Shorts

I get what you're saying. Worn correctly, they were what I guess would be called a full thong, with the cheeks exposed, but a fair bit of material higher up. There was actually more material in the back than the narrow front. When reversed this material sat lower and covered the goods, while the narrow front made for a briefer rear. Hope this makes sense.

It certainly was a fun time. And she was the one who made the obvious joke about getting into her pants!

I have couple of Joe Snyder Bulge Full Shorts, they expose a little bit of cheeks but its ok. They are very comfortable and they are convenient for any beach or swimming pool occasion when thongs aren't allowed.

I've got a few pairs of short shorts, like upper mid-thigh, that I'll wear during the summer. Then I have some super short ones that show a little bit of ass cheek. Those are reserved for wearing over a g-string to the beach.

As a runner, I enjoy wearing short shorts. The shorter and tighter, the better. I've been intrigued by the Joe Snyder and Cover Male brands short 'running' shorts so I ordered 2 pairs of the CM. I like their thongs so hoping I will like these skimpy shorts. A lot of my running is done on wooded trails or uncrowded greenway. During the summer, I'm practically nude compared to other runners so I think these shorts will just take my undress to another level. They seem like they'll be fun to wear to the beach too.

Bodyaware mesh shorts are great as running shorts.  They are also very much booty shorts.  I've posted a few more pics from last summer in my "Dallas Again!" section in my pics files.  I'll mix in the neon orange mesh shorts this summer. :)

I just got these Eros Sport Core Vibe Shorts from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Eros-Sport-Core-Short-Charcoal/dp/B00GUY5WW6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1396549103&sr=8-1&keywords=eros+sport+vibe

They are pretty much the male equivalent of those hot women's spandex running or yoga shorts, like these: http://shop.lululemon.com/products/clothes-accessories/shorts-yoga/Boogie-Short-32820?cc=13445&skuId=3542824&catId=shorts-yoga

They're very short, but slightly longer than a skimpy squarecut swimsuit (maybe by an inch). They feel like they're very high quality, and they are designed to leave ample room for a man's package, which is obviously what makes wearing women's spandex shorts a no-go. While I like the thought of running outside in these new shorts, I think I'll need to work on toning up my body a bit and find somewhere far away from crowds before I feel comfortable enough to run around in these outdoors.

I wear Skinzwear shorts in the gym every day. I like the older style better than the new style, fortunately I have a supply of the older style shorts. I can not stand the shorts that go past the knee. What is the point, might as well as wear long pants. For me the perfect length is between a 3 and 5 inch inseam. I'd rather wear something shorter than longer.

I've been wearing my BOA split shorts with 1" inseam at the gym over and over (different colors) for several weeks now.  These are just like any other pair of split running shorts, only shorter.  Very short in fact, especially relative to other shorts in the gym, but by the same token, they are NOT like the Skinz or other ones that are practically like bikinis.  They also have a spandex liner so you really don't need a supporter underneath unless you want one.  Doesn't matter, nothing shows whether you wear a supporter or not.  These fit great and if anybody has even noticed their relative shortness, it would be news to me.  I think they aren't noticed because they just look like regular shorts.  Comfortable, not showy. Just the way I like it.

I had not tried the Soffe "Tiny Tiny" mesh shorts until recently. Quite good, but maybe a little rough on the skin because they are all polyester.

I echo the posters above who say these shorts are cute. Added a couple to my stock of short shorts.

While marketed by some as Juniors, as noted by the prior posters the sizing is in women's sizing, so going up by one size seems to work well, at least for me.  Be a little careful because unlike most athletic shorts these do not have a free floating inner liner.

I bought 6 pair of short jersey cotton Russell Athletic shorts labeled for women today at my local Walgreens when I was picking up a prescriptions. They are the same type of cotton shorts I wore in high school for PE.  I think they are marked women's because of the current trend in men's wear. But they are the exact same that they used to make for men. The kicker, they were marked 3 for $10, but were on closeout for 75 cents each. I bought every pair left that wasn't extra large. Small, medium and large all seemed to fit almost the same. In fact the ones marked small were larger than the mediums. These all have less than a 3 inch inseem. Perfect cover up if away from lake or beach and need to run into a store. Don't know if it was only my local store, or if they are in other stores. worth looking for if in a nearby Walgreens

I'm sure that most of us who regularly wear thongs don't hesitate to wear a tiny pair of shorts in public.  Lord knows that its hard enough to find a decent pair of mens short shorts (that aren't running shorts) so I generally wear women's.  In fact, the only pair of mens shorts that I have anymore are a few of my dad's old shorts from the 70's.  I like the tight knee length cut offs that some young guys have been wearing lately, but Im not convinced they would really suit me- Im not the waif I used to be, Im all shoulders and muscles now (being a carpenter will do that for you).

I got a pair of the Soffe teeny tiny shorts too. I use them for biking and they are wonderful. I wear a matching sport thong underneath, but they are not see through(white maybe). I had no idea what size to get, so I went according to hip size and for 34 inch hips, the medium fits perfectly like running shorts. I have more ordered, directly from a place that lists on Amazon for them(EssentialApparel) , so $7.90 a piece, free shipping(+$49 order), and 5% cashback with a cash back site. For me they keep me cool and they don't have me playing slip and slide on the seat.
Someone said they remove the outside tag, on the back of the band, I wonder why..

Since living in Vegas I have been wearing my BOA 1" inseam shorts just about everywhere, from the gym to Wal-Mart and everywhere in between.  I must be invisible, I get no comments (which is a good thing).  Never wore anything else to the gym since last November and never one word, except one lady commented that I had nice legs while using the Stairmaster.  Then I spent 10 days in Jamaica and wore them in the (casual) resort restaurants and to climb Dunn's River Falls in front of hundreds of the most conservative tourists imaginable -- again, no comments except one of the waiters in a restaurant wanted to know if I was a runner and struck up a conversation about running.  These are real traditional split running shorts like you used to wear in the 70s and 80s and I think they just don't attract attention because of that, whether they are shorter than normal or not.  Of course if you are going to wear something really radical like short tight Spandex or the Skinz split shorts that show your waistband even when standing still, that would probably be a different matter -- but if you are wearing those, you probably are enjoying the attention anyway.

rogert6: Wow! That's like running in a bikini. I'll echo JM_Runs -- good for you!  When will manufacturers start to realize there is a sizable number of men out here that not only want to wear "body showing" athletic clothes but also don't want all of that material flapping around when we exercise or do sports?

Re:Short Shorts

Yes, thanks for posting these links and sharing rogert6! I've been considering buying a pair of running briefs to wear on long trail runs at home (and vacations to South FL). I've found the shorter and briefer my bottoms are, the better. I tried the booty baring running shorts from Cover Male but they look silly and are too loose.  So I've been running in Nike Pro Core 2.5 women's shorts which fit great front and back but I would love to go skimpier to a running brief of the same fabric. Great suggestion.

Re:Short Shorts

What i find and experienced are lululemon shorts that fit really well. Tracker shorts II  2 way stretch or hotty hot shorts. These have liners that fit just like tight briefs described in rogert6 post. Wide waistband is great you be surprised how comfortable they fit.

Lululemon do it all shorts i own 13 inches in length. Fit is revealing yet surprising comfortable. Stays in place along the legs. Makes a butt wedgie to keep everything in place. Also advertises my bulge completely. You will need to wear a thong underneath because it has no lining. If you like shorts that look modest yet when worn are much more revealing showing entire shape and form.

Remember that 2 way stretch have more tighter fit along the legs then 4 way stretch. You want a better fitted look 2 way stretch is perfect style without looking as your running a triathlon in briefs or square speedo's.

Tucking is pointing your package down between your legs so that the buldge is reduced. My wife thinks that if my package is to the front that in short shorts it is drawing attention.

Short Shorts for Men.  Some of you folks may like to try these running shorts from China available from several vendors on ebay.

They look like standard short running shorts but are built of soft cloth with a thong/jock inner instead of the normal inner liner.
Very comfortable. I own several. Sizing is rather Chinese so size up at least one size.  I am a reasonably skinny guy but wear a Large.

The inner pouch keeps your tackle in front and prevents it accidentally flopping out a leg hole.

Thanks for the tip. Bought the thong swimsuit they sell, holding up well surprisingly at the pool own three.
While finally someone heard my complaint of running short shorts with a thong liner. Halliouha! Except it's a jock strap. Maybe good maybe not. But a pure thong liner is a smart short short idea don't ya think?
Will stick with lulu short shorts with full back liner still very good comfort and style. Although if they did come with a thong it would sell out. Only way to fix the problem wearing shorts without a liner and a swimsuit thong, g-string of your choice seperately. Which i do often cycling to and from the beach. Important that the shorts fit snugly giving a bit of an ass wedgie while poser thong gives me enough lift up front for good profile. While riding a bike many ladies stare admiring what they see can't dissapoint any can i.

My friend has been in a nursing home for the last week.  The halls are populated by flocks of women in scrubs of various colors, depending on their job, and a few folks in wheel chairs.
The last few days I have enjoyed wearing some very very short shorts. I got smiles and complements from the staff, and left the pretty young speech therapist with a stammer.
I am bad at remembering names, but I have decided I need to find out her name, for I would like to ask her out on a date.

After my last post on this topic, I ordered a pair of the Asics Stride Brief in black. They fit me perfectly and have turned out to be my new favorite running bottom. They fit like a traditional Speedo with a flat front, no seam but the material feels amazing and allows my package space to reside :) I have a tiny butt so they don't ride up at all.
I wear them with a tank top for morning and evening runs on the greenways. I think the Asics logo gives the impression that I'm wearing running brief bottoms, instead of underwear. I highly recommend them.
