Urban Beach Week, my not be best for kids.

Depending on what weekend you hit, Fort Lauderdale may be a better bet than Miami.  No normal camping, it is a city, except for (a) RV parks (b) County Parks.  Some county parks have tent only camping, or rental tents like in Quiet Waters Park in Broward County (Near Fort Lauderdale).

Some parks have camping, ALL will require a car ride to the beach. Busy weekend so book ahead.

There are some State Parks that have camping all the way down in the Florida keys. If you want sleep you want a site well away from highway.
If you want to camp within walking distance of the beach you need to look further north in Florida.

Has anyone here ever had any problems wearing mesh swimwear on South Beach?
I have a black, fine mesh Joe Snyder bikini cut that I've worn there without incident. It is pretty see through within I'd say 10 feet, but probably not when at a distance of more than 20 feet. However I haven't done much walking around in it.
I'm usually just there early weekday mornings to sun tan. Usually aren't very many around and aside for the occasional quick dip in the water I'm usually laying down.
This trip I'm thinking of walking a bit more along the water and probably to and from the bathrooms, showers etc. Just wondering if I can leave my coverup shorts off for these walks or not.

Depends on how big the holes are in the mesh. I've worn tiny Skinz roman g-strings unlined mesh on South Beach with zero issues. However the size of the mesh holes are tiny so it's not really see-thru when dry but can be quite sheer when wet. Taking walks shouldn't be a problem, especially in the mornings. On South Beach as long as you're wearing something it's generally fine.

Anyone know of any good swimwear shops to buy some nice suits for the wife and I in the SoBe area.  Tried googling it, and only found a couple of gay/lez specialty shops, not that i am opposed to shopping there also..

@Lindos these are a very fine mesh. Think like a window screen. They are excellent for avoiding tan lines as they tan through. Up close you can see everything but at a distance they would just look black. I'm figuring worst case I'll be asked to cover up. I'll have something with me in case but it would be nice not to worry about putting something else on when I have to get up to go to the restroom or cool off in the showers.

You are correct, worst case you would be politely asked to cover up. I have worn both mesh and Dubio big hole fabric suits on SoBe frequently without any problems.

I was on South Beach yesterday. I lost count at 18 of the number of female thongs. I didn’t see any male thongs. I saw 4 topless women. I was between 15th and18th street.

I was out again today in front of the Loews hotel near the Boucher Brothers chairs. I think it is 16th street. I counted 8 thongs, 0 g-strings, and 0 topless. There were no others male thongers besides myself. I wore a semi-sheer when wet missle g-string.
This was my first time thonging on SB so I picked a spot not too close to anyone. Also, being Monday morning the beach wasn’t very crowded despite the nice weather (until the rain at 3).
I definitely heard some giggles and got some looks but no one said or did anything negative. I did go to the water a few times and threw some trash away before finally getting up the nerve to walk to the showers and rinse off. It was as an amazing feeling walking in nothing but a very thin torpedo G-string. There were 6 or 7 girls at the shower area who definitely got a kick out of it.
Also once the drizzle started I took off my g-string and laid out nude for about 10 minutes but by then there were only about 4-5 people on the beach around me.

On SouthBeach because thongs are so numerous a few years ago I started doing my counts as a TIV factor- that's Thongs In View while in one place.  I've been up to 60 and down to 2, usually 8-15.

Re:South Beach, Beach Miami, Florida FL. ( SoBe )

I was out today around 16th street. I was wearing my semi sheer when wet missle/torpedo thong. Not sure the proper name for it. Anyway I was out from 10 am to 2 pm today. Great weather. I can tell you the black girls love me. I had so many black girls talk to me. They were so interested in what I was wearing. One girl probably 23 sat right next to me and asked me where I got my swimsuit. I peeled it down to reveal the tag saying Koala. She loved it and said she loved my assets lol.

Another black girl came upon me (yesterday evening) while I was momentarily tanning nude. All I heard was “ What”. She asked if I was comfortable lol and said I need to take a picture of this. I need my friends to do this.

I went to the shower to cool off and a really cute Latina probably 28 kept looking me up and down. I smiled at her and she said “Nice”. I said thanks. As I was leaving she happened to be sitting on one of the Boucher Brotger chairs and she stopped me. She complimented me on my swimwear and we chatted for a few minutes. Turns out she is local here in SB. I asked her if she had seen others wearing anything similar before. She said “ Like that, no”. She said there is one guy who is “72 who wears a tiny thong and wears wings”.  She said she has only seen older guys wearing thongs. She continued by saying I was good since I had a good body. It look ones good on me. She acknowledged that she could see everything when I got out the water but it looked good.

Right after I got stopped by two more black ladies sitting right behind the hot Latina. These ladies were like “ You know your the talk of the beach right?” I was like No, but it’s South Beach so it’s all good. They agreed. They did not take there eyes off my junk the whole time we chatted, lol. Turned out they were from very close to where I was from. Overall it was a great time.

Oh one other time when I was walking around a younger hot Latina asked “is that a bikini?”  I said yes and she was smiling ear to ear. She said I’m speechless. Lol.

Another thing worth mentioning. I was approached by the beach patrol at one point. He said try not to have the bikini too low. He said someone complained and “ we have kids here”. He was really cool about it. He said “We didn’t even know you were here but if someone complains we have to do something”. He came across like the complainer was a nuisance.
I’m thinking that the one time I pulled the bikini down exposing maybe an inch of the root for literally 1-2 minutes was what they complained about. It was a couple and their 3-4 yo sitting in the Boucher Brothers chairs about 30 feet behind me.

I experienced no other issues before or after from beach patrol. A couple of negative comments from vagrants though. I just ignored them. One vagrant was like “Sir, sir...” “Telling policia” I’m thinking go right ahead my friend lol. Another vagrant by the showers I heard say something like “that ain’t decent “ or something to that effect. Just ignored him.

Just moments later I had a hot twenty something Latina smiling at me saying “Nice”. I’m headed back in August with the wife. We will will both be in thongs. I’m curious how that dynamic will be.

Your experience mirrors mine over many years, but I rarely have so many folks say something to me or stare so overtly in one outing. Guess that you are younger and in better shape than I. The beach patrol has told me the same thing, that they don't even notice until they have a complaint. While wearing a stocking baggie one day they asked me to wear something so that I wouldn't look nude from the rear when walking on the beach. I now wear a waist strap of string or chain every time I wear a baggie. The vagrants don't bother me on the beach, but when I walk on the beachwalk or go up to take a shower, they are the only source of negative comments.Glad that you had such a wonderful time!

@bmicro yes it was a blast. I can’t wait to go back in early August again.
Same thing for me with the vagrants. Always near the shower or beach walk making comments. One other time a female vagrant started yelling about “seeing [my] junk” when I was rinsing off at the shower wearing a pair of white JS squarecut trunks. Yes they were momentarily slightly see thru when wet but again it was the vagrant making a scene. The only other incident I recall was getting propositioned by one on a bicycle. Wouldn’t stop following me until I headed back to the beach.
I’ve never worn a baggie before. I wonder if that would garner more or less attention than what I was wearing? I call it a missle or torpedo but it doesn’t stick straight out unless of course I was hard. It is form fitting and really just hangs. The girl I was chatting with said it kind of looked like I wearing just a condom.

I have found that the amount of attention does not have much of a relationship to what you are wearing once you get into the small g-string or less arena. The one exception that I have found is that a one-sided thong seems to attract more comments about being "fashion forward", "bold" or similar comments.

I went to SoBe a few years ago and saw what looked like models jumping out of cars near the beach in g-strings. Was that common? I did not see many thongs on the beach though even if the weather demanded it. This is South Beach I thought? The nude beach at Bal Harbor was better.

That used to be common back in the day when South Beach was the preferred photo shoot location for most photographers and a very large number of models lived in the area. With the increased popularity and cost of the area this has, sadly, decreased significantly.

This review compares late summer of 2017 (pre-Irma) with this summer 2018. Both times I wore teardrop g-strings (from Rubbertreelatex and from Skinz). My very small suits are visible from a distance, opaque, and cover the essentials. Even a small suit you can wear anyplace on the beach makes thongs more acceptable. I was totally ignored by beach patrol and lifeguards.

Beach 2017: very clean and minimal seaweed.

Beach 2018: lots of seaweed, but the maintenance crews were trying to deal with it, so it was a minor problem. The beach wasn’t as clean.

Hotel 2017 and 2018: At the TheHotel the pool staff and other people there didn’t care about my g-string. I got a couple of compliments.

Beach reactions 2017: Overall, I had a very positive experience, with some compliments. There were just a couple of negative reactions, near 4th and 16th streets in 4 days while walking multiple times between the pier and 20th street, but that’s out of many hundreds of beachgoers. I ignored them and didn’t react in response. The beach is well patrolled and I never saw anyone act even close to bothering another person. Only a few people walked the beach like me for exercise. There were lots of families having a good time. They always ignored me.

Beach reactions 2018: Positive experience. No negative reactions. I was mostly ignored. Very few stares. I got several great compliments. No groups of adolescent boys, or adults acting like adolescents.  No big groups at all. Families came and set up next to me. More people were walking along the beach this year.

Photographs 2017: It seemed like half of people were taking cell phone pictures or videos, mostly selfies. Some directed at me, from a distance. I got a couple of polite requests for photos.

Photographs 2018: A lot fewer pictures being taken. No requests for photos. As I was passing by some women absorbed in their cell phone, I heard their partner yell, hey look up.

Swimwear 2017: Over 4 days, for women there were maybe 5% thongs. Another 20% had small bikinis/cheekies. I saw just four women with g-strings and the only suits on the beach coming close to as small as mine. On men there were maybe a dozen bikinis, one cheeky bikini. But 10% of men had trunks at mid-thigh. No thongs on guys.

Swimwear 2018: Over 5 days up to 5% of women had thongs. One afternoon while sitting in my beach chair there were 10 women in thongs nearby. Up to 30% had some cheekiness. Three g-strings, but not as small as mine. One was posing for pictures but otherwise covered up. I did see one woman with a g-string as small as mine, but she was a block away from the beach and surrounded by motorcyclists, so it doesn’t count for the beach. Overall, though bottoms are smaller, tops are larger. On men, one afternoon I saw 10 bikinis in a half hour, and 30 total. Bikinis outnumbered square cuts, maybe 20 in all. But swimming trunks (like decades ago) appeared on 20 to 30% of guys. Few board shorts below the knees. Definite trend away from board shorts. No thongs on guys.

Topless 2017: There were a few women topless, like the 5 near me one day in rented beach chairs, but they always covered up to go in the water. Only once did I see a topless woman at the water’s edge, and she looked great.

Topless 2018: None. Even when laying out prone almost no women unfastened their top.

Trend 2018: More swimsuits and minimal coverups being worn on Ocean Dr. and Collins Ave. Plenty of skimpy clothing. I joined in, wearing a revealing tank top with thong bottom covered by a 12 inch mini pareo that barely covered by butt. I got no reactions and not even a stare. Can’t compete.

Marketing trend: more people using spray on sunscreen. At least half of it goes into the atmosphere. Seems like a scam to sell more sunscreen.

Continuing trend: people are getting larger. Maybe 5% could be called trim and fit.

The compliments I get are motivators to stay in shape. So thong wearing for me has provided health benefits.

So I’m carrying the flag for thong wearers and keeping up a presence for others to follow. I’ll continue wearing my small suits, even if no one else is.

String_Theory -

Regarding spray on sunscreen - the directions on the can say to spray fro six to eight inches away, and rub it aroud with your hand te evenly spread it around. I don't think I've ever seen anyone actually do this.

Spray sunscreen is great if you are alone and can't reach your back. Prefer lotion, but hate to cary both.

Spray is also good for balding heads. Those with too much hair for lotion to work, but too thin for protection.

Reading these latest replies I can say I´m disappointed to know that SoBe is not the same as in the past for thongs mainly on men. I recall wear it around 1999-2000 there and saw several other men in thongs near me. I´m planning to go back to SoBe early next year with my wife (she wears thong too), but I really don´t want to feel out of place. Any suggestions of hotel/part of the beach where we can wear it without being too noticed? We are not on g-strings, just regular thongs. Or better avoid it? Thanks

There are really not any particular men in thong hot spots. You can find a few men in thongs scattered along the beach (the operative word is few). If you want a place where there will be many men around you in thongs, I do not of any such place in the US, at least. If you want to wear a thong (or anything else for that matter) with no fear of being disturbed or catching the interest of any authorities, south beach is your place. Your wife will, however, be surrounded by other women in thongs.

Thanks bmicro, that´s the answer I was looking for. For me is not so important to be surrounded by other men in thong, is more to not attract too much attention to my swinwear. Just want to be one more in the crowd.

I was at 16th street today and saw Bmicro. He is the ambassador of micro swimwear on Sobe. He was wearing a sheer sling shot. I was wearing a skinz m55 which is my go to suit for the beach, pool, and gym. Went for a walk down to 10th street and saw one other guy wearing a thong. I'll be back on Thursday and Friday. I'm staying at timeshare in Hollywood and the red tide is worst than SoBe.

Recently got to Southbeach for a day in the sun. I went to 8th street and rented a sunlounger. I thought I'd wear a barely legal suit and stay in one location instead of walking around since the beach wasn't too busy that week. I got a lounger on the front row without an umbrella. I stripped off my shirt and shorts to a baggie sling suit which I call a "choker sling" because the single string up the front, single string up the back loops around my neck to tension properly. There's a missile pouch swinging around suspended by the tension. So I'm there less than a half an hour with people all over the chair rows and out front I was on my stomach head facing away from the water and I roll over and see these two girls about 10 feet from my feet on their blanket also on their stomachs staring at me as I turned over and smiling, whispering to one another. I pretended not to notice and they proceeded to snap away with their phones. Now this suit is a little fussy because I can partially pop out a ball because there's no backward tension on the pouch. I tried to keep my legs together and did have to use my fingers to adjust a bit. Wow--- I know what girls feel like when someone's on "crotch watch" on the beach! They stayed maybe an hour- both wearing thong bikinis. The TIV (thongs in view) factor was 7-10 at all times. Each time a hot girl or girls would arrive--- wow more thongs! That said no one was topless in sight. The suit got a few comments but really didn't seem like anyone was shocked to see me without a waist band. This hot tall girl walking down the beach after putting on her shorts over a thong bikini and leaving walked up to me while I was on my back, said "wow- amazing", thumbed her phone screen and took two pictures smiled nodded and walked away. So I'd say Southbeach still gives the freedom to wear very tiny suits and they're well accepted.

I will be staying in Fort Lauderdale near the beach in February, and always feel comfortable thonging there, thanks to all the info on the thread for FLL.  I always hit Haulover, I love skinnydipping.  But I think I'd like to go down to SoBe just to see what it's like.  I recognize some of the screennames here from another board where guys post their thong-or-less experiences at SoBe.  I wouldn't mind trying a little of that myself.  I have a couple of g'strings and a one-sided thong.  I'm more inclined to set up where there aren't a lot of other people, so is 14-16th street a good spot for that?  Anybody got a suggestion for the most-likely-not-to-be-bothered areas for the barest swimwear (BTW, I like the water, I don't want to just hide  under an umbrella).    Thanks, maybe I'll run into some of you.   Al

Most all along Southbeach on a nice day there are people, but south of 5th st where there are condos against the beach there are fewer people. Thongwearers won't be "bothered" at all anywhere! If visiting for the day park at city garage at 7th off Collins and walk over a couple of blocks - it's cheap! I've seen people walk over to the beach in thongs from there before too. G strings are no problem, one sided shouldn't be either, I've walked down the beach in a "semikini" a few years ago and got positive attention, no problems. The lifeguards seem to not pay any mind if you're wearing something!

Less people is a relative term on South Beach. Accept the fact that you will be a lot of people around. That said, as long as you do not look totally nude from any angle (e.g. wear a string around your waist if wearing a baggie) go for what you want to wear. Enjoy!

Alfresco, there isn't a place on South Beach that is secluded. That said I think there's areas which are more favorable for a man in a g-string. I think anywhere between 14th and 23rd works well and between 1st and 3rd is good. I've had no issues wearing sheer-when-wet g-strings in those locations. I think between 5th and 10th is more urban so is not as great for a guy. And as long as you have something on you'll have no problems from authorities.

Can anyone offer some advice on the Hotel Richmond near 18th St.?  I'll be staying there this month and am hoping to be able to wear a thong or g string around the pool and hot tub. It doesn't sound like there is a problem with g strings on the beach around there.

I don't know about this specific hotel, however there are some that are common to most hotels at this time of year. This is the height of Spring Break season, so there will be an excess of young college students from northern collages who can afford to take a Spring Break vacation and stay in hotels. The kids who can fly in and stay in hotels are children of rich parents, and so tend to come from more conservative families. Miami Beach thong friendly and allows women to go topless. It tends to be the locals who have developed the self confidence to go topless in public. The same is generally true about thongers, the ones you see are the ones who have developed the self confidence, AND live locally so they are out on the beach more than just the sunny days in one week of the year. Hotels are the reverse of that... In that locals don't need to stay in a hotel, so the hotel pools tend to be populated by tourists, with less self confidence, and in South Florida the tourists mostly come from more conservative northern states. So you are less likely to see people in thongs, UNLESS the hotel has an open pool policy allowing locals to use their pool and bar. You see this with some beach hotels who have pools and bars open to the public. However, because Miami Beach is thong and topless friendly so are most of the hotels, even if most of the guests don't exercise the option. Your ability to wear a thong at a hotel pool is going to depend on your self-confidence: To wear a thong when other tourists are more reluctant and to wear a thong when other tourists might be disapproving. People who can't, or don't want to wear thongs near home, often ask about thoning on vacation, at hotel pools. Your comfort with thonging at a hotel pool will be shaped by WHY you don't feel comfortable thoning at home: If you are worried that family or co-workers will disapprove, then vacationing in another state will help. If you feel uncomfortable when the church-lady disapproves, then seeking a judgement free place will help. If you are a guy and want complements, then the pool at a gay resort will help, if you are comfortable with compliments from gay men. If you are in reasonably good shape, then wearing a thong on the beach will get you compliments from both men and women. The other advantage of hotel pools, most of the other guest are also 'out of water', so to speak. I don't think the staff will give you a problem when thonging at South Florida hotel pools, unless the pool deck is a defacto extension of a restaurant with a snooty attitude. However so long as you are not phased by the ignorant comments of young men you don't know, who are visiting from another State, thoing at both the pool and beach will be fine. When it is winter time, and there is a cold wind from the North, hanging out in a sunny corner of a wind protected pool deck makes sense. But if the weather is warm, and you have flown all the way to Miami Beach, the place with the thong and topless friendly BEACH, why hang out at the hotel pool surrounded by tourists? At pools it helps to be first, and make friends with the staff. At the beach or pool you are self-confidence and friendliness helps to set the tone of your experience. At a pool asking the staff where you can get a good cup of coffee or sandwich for lunch is a good way to start a quick conversation. Remember to smile a lot. The person you are talking too will instinctively smile back. Other people will see you talking and smiling with the staff, and will tend to take their cues from that. Another tip for friendly conversation, that appears genuinely friendly to a distant observer, is try to have a non-transactional discussion. An example of a transitional discussion is with a waitress about food or drink, or car salesman about cars. People tend to wear their serious profesional game faces when having transactional discussions, so the fake smiles are obvious to an observer.

Beachguy: I stay at the Richmond hotel all the time and have worn g-strings at the pool & hot tub without any problems. Very rarely will there be any kids here and it's not one that hosts spring breakers either. Consider it more like a boutique hotel for mostly adults. Usually there will be one or two women wearing thongs around the pool but no topless in the daytime. Last year they hosted a fashion show around the pool and there was plenty of exposed butt and nip slips.

At nighttime the pool gets very little to no use to the point where I'll often skinny dip in 10-15 minute increments. On a couple of occasions one of the workers did their hourly check to straighten the lounge chairs while I was in the pool nude. However since I stay there so often I've got a good repoir with the workers so they'd be less likely to say something to me unless there was a serious complaint, which is a great point that JM made in the last post.

Sometimes I'll get an oceanfront room with view of the pool and have seen others skinny dip and also have literally seen a straight couple, gay couple and lesbian couple have discreet sex on separate occasions. Of course the hotel won't condone such activity and it's the rare exception rather than the norm, but what happens is at midnight they close off the back of the hotel at midnight so guests in the hotel (and the employees) cant get to the pool area through the hotel, but you can get there from the beach, so it's after midnight-1am where almost anything goes, including homeless people stopping by to sleep for the night.

Just be careful at night not to take anything valuable to the pool area. Last month I had my phone & ipad stolen when I left my lounge chair for 30 seconds to use the poolside bathroom. That's how I also know that their security cameras are not looked at in real time.

Thanks much JM and lindros for the great perspective on Miami Beach and its hotels and for the all of the information on the Hotel Richmond.  I booked the Richmond because it was available and had a reasonable rate. I am very comfortable in a thong or g string in my home state so it sounds like the Richmond and was a good hotel choice.  Thanks again!

One thing I will add, just to emphasize what JM said, is that it's much more fun to lay out on the beach than hang around the pool during the day. You'll have more space and certainly will have better views in terms of people watching. I'll hang out at the Richmond pool in the daytime only if it's too windy or cold to stay on the beach (Richmond heats their pool in winter) or if I got too much sun too early at the beach and am looking for some shade. Probably 95% of my pool time is hanging out there at night.

If you do opt for the pool over the beach be sure to grab one of the loungers on the left side of the pool by 9-10am as they stay in the sun all day and fill up quick where the loungers on the right remain shaded. The bar serves great strawberry/banana smoothies with real fruit, not the pre-made smoothie juice at other places, but they shut down around 6pm or so. If you want to crash the pool next door at South Seas hotel at night (their pool is open 24 hours) their back gate code is 5-2-1. Their pool is open 24 hours. They do have a security guard that does a pass by every hour but as long as you look like you belong he will not be an issue. South Seas is g-string friendly.

Just got back from a long Florida trip. Spent some time a few days on South Beach. Seems like thongs are the majority on women ....cheeky to real small thongs! Lots of OPT's too. I saw a few more topless women than last year. Each day I'd see one or two other guys in thongs. Wore some of my smallest suits. One day walked around amongst the crowds at SoBe Food and Wine festival on the hard sand and boardwalk in a thin mesh thong that doesn't weigh an ounce. Swinging and flopping around didn't seem to cause any reactions- everyone was cool! Now I know how Bmicro feels since one day I walked about 10 blocks down the beach in a G string suit which is worn balllz out. I think only one or two people even noticed. I noticed when I'd sit down and set up I'd often attract some girls in the smallest thongs. One day I was in a small G string on my stomach on my towel near a line of the rental chairs. A young couple walked by and he said to her "Oh you'll like it here" then they grabbed a sun bed right next to me. She was all dressed in high end jewelry and cover up, he stripped to a square cut. She to a bikini then a few minutes later off comes the bikini--- yess a tiny V string- and off comes the top! She was smiling at everyone- we were enjoying the view- she had no tan lines to begin with!! If you go by car the garage at 7th and Collins or 13 th and Collins are city garages- max $20 per day- even overnight! Some other places are $20 per four hours.

Good reports, sailor. Interested in that lightweight mesh thong. Do you have an example?

This is the suit--it's not see thru in blue or green or black!  It's very light weight.  The mesh is super fine- I have to take care to put it in a small plastic bag when not on so I don't snag it- hasn't happened yet.  It must not weigh an ounce though haven't put it on a scale!  It's supportive but with lots of "action"https://www.ebay.com/itm/K4030-K403-String-Thong-Contoured-Pouch-Grape-Smugglers-Mesh-Stretchy-C-thru/181665824763?hash=item2a4c207ffb:m:m1M4cTseeowGIm_OUTnRwAw&var=480623529743

I got to wear all mesh suits on the trip and have nooo tan lines--- everything is tan!!!  Make sure you lotion your C and B and under the suit when in private, because you can't do that in public!   I have a collection of mesh bikinis , thongs, shorts and G strings so I'm never having a tanline! The mesh suits also let thru alllll the breeze so it's as close to nude as possible.  Many are print patterns and not at all see thru.

sailor250 - The overtness of wearing a "ballz out" suit is a very poor decision. Not only is it illegal but in very poor taste. On Haulover or non-public area it might be acceptable. Creating an opportunity for lawmen to arrest or cite you might prove to be embarrassing , costly, and lead to a judicial declaration that you are a sexy devient and placed on a sex offender watchlist. You may get your "Kicks" by pulling off such stunts but in fact you are playing against the odds and soon enough you will be caught and have to deal (in court) with the consequences for such misguided exhibitions. It seems to be fine and dandy away from streets or crowds, but in very public venues you only invite the ire of more conventionally law abiding people who do not share your sense of humor and openness. Should you be apprehended this will draw unnecessary media attention and pressure on law abiding thong wearers who do not wish a confrontation with law officials. Your over the top exhibitionist displays in very public places leads other board members/visitors to think you a sexual devient. If you are so compelled to flaunt your creative swim attire please do so on a nude beach where wearing or non wearing off such extraordinary attire will not adversely affect others who come to FL to wear minimalist swimwear. Stirring up wasp nests only to take off before the swarm retaliates (response by law officers) leave you and others who likewise behave far outside of acceptable guidelines as poor examples of mature and considerate decision making.

@sailor250: I'm with OS777. Going balls-out is simply going to get you in trouble AND probably screw it up for everyone else (particularly guys). Enjoy being able to wear a thong (even a skimpy one) on a popular, public beach. Leave the crazy exhibitionist suits for the CO beach (like Haulover which is just up the street from SoBe, for god's sake). I'm a fan of "pushing the envelope" but balls out is just going too far, IMO.

I agree. There are so many good thongs that properly cover the goods, that using suits to flash is a problem.  If the suit is balls out or shaft exposing you can't claim it was accidental. Better off to just go naked, and not give male thongers a bad name.

You might be able to get away with it when visiting for a few days, but the results can ripple on long after you leave. People complain or grumble about men in thongs. Someone at a meeting suggests something has to be done. You also put the lifeguards and police in a difficult position, having to act as judge and inspect your suit.

There are MANY micro thongs made for men that cover just the goods and no more, but which still keep everything legally covered. There are even more thongs which are not see through when dry, which become partly see through when wet, but for which you have plausible diniability.

We have very liberal beach policies in South Florida, but they have limits. We also have Haulover beach, where your balls out suit is just fine. Please don't use thoning as a method for covert flashing, because the backdraft plays into the large, conservative, religious groups who wish to change our communities.

You may think that the law will not change... BUT one only has to look at Fort Lauderdale, which every year made a LOT of money from Spring Break. Then in the mid 1980's there was a religiously driven movement to clean up the more excessive parts of Spring Break. The resulting fall out swung radically the other way: ALL the topless bars and strip clubs were kicked out of town. EVERY dance club and disco on the beach left town, EVERY dance club and disco in the rest of the town shut down. The thong wearing hot-dog vendors were kicked out of town.  The topless R-Donuts coffee shop closed.  The beach and town is now far more straightlaced, and just a shadow of its former self.

Most thong wearers are not sexual perverts, but it only takes one or two careless men to cause a problem.

In Florida we have both the legislator and governor's office dominated by very conservative republicans. There is no real ability for opposition. This causes two problems:

 - The first is the continuing appointment of very conservative judges, often appointed for their ideology rather than their temperament or experience.

 - The second the legislators from the State capital in Tallahassee, (South Alabama) are always pushing for more restrictive social laws. Lately they have been hammering hard on the issue of preemption: Preventing cities and counties from having local laws they don't like: For example things like overriding local minimum wage laws, right down to petty laws like preventing local bans on plastic straws.

People don't understand our right to wear thongs on some of the beaches in Florida is rather fragile.

Please thong publicly, with confidence, as if a thong is just another swimwear choice, BUT don't use thonging as a covert method of flashing. It can lead to news reports of "Thong wearing man arrested on nudity charge" which is perfectly accurate, but gives people the idea that thongs are illegal. Even if you are not arrested, the resulting blowback can, in time, cumulatively, cause huge problems.

The posters above are right, save the exposure suits for Haulover Beach, where they are legal and welcomed.

So... with all this being said I am still hoping that wearing a Joe Snyder g string around the 18th street area would not be to much.

A Joe Snyder G-String will be fine, anywhere on the beach. Any thong or g-string that covers all your tackle is fine. The problem starts when men's suits are made to deliberately display the shaft or balls.

Good discussion on the coverage on men's thongs/g-strings. What is the analogous minimal, but still legal/"appropriate", coverage for a girl's g-string on SoBe?

For women there is a variety of tolerance too. So you may go several days and several microkinis which barely cover the lips then see a bikini that doesn't quite. As you'll find above we've seen girls pull their bikinis aside. There have been lettuce style bottoms with loose ruffle fit that well leaf nothing to the imagination in some situations. Single strings have been worn but discreetly not walking around. It's about as free as you'll find any beach outside of a clo op beach anywhere. We'll hear that women have stopped walking the beach topless- then this month I'll see several. I've seen a girl walking on Collins in a wide net OPT and wow she has a pierced cl!t...it's really surprising sometimes. Don't know that I've heard of a girl getting talked to by the beach patrol about wearing too little!

I'll second what Sailor250 said about South Beach, "it is about as free a beach you'll find outside a clothing optional beach anywhere." I've seen a couple girls wear a single-string suit (just a string going down the clit). I've seen a man wearing angel wings on his back on Halloween two years in a row walking down the beach with nothing more than white body paint on his genitals. I've seen parents let their kids up to as old as 9-10 lay out naked on the lounge chairs. I've seen adults strip out of street clothes into their swimsuits without cover on the beach. Now these are the exceptions rather than the rules, but if you visit South Beach enough times you'll see just about anything. Depending where I set up and whether it's a weekday or weekend, I'll either wear a see-through-when-wet Skinz Roman g-string or will sunbath nude. Some days I'll start out nude and later put on the g-string once the crowd starts building up around me. Out of the 30+ times I've been nude on just 3 occasions did a life guard come over and politely ask me to cover. However I always arrive early and let others set up around me if they wish. That way those who are offended are free to set up farther away. Bottom line, as long as your not behaving in a lewd/sexual/drunken manner and not acting like a total creep, then as long as you have something on, anything, you will not be bothered and in the worst case scenario politely asked to cover up.
