We just returned from a cruise where one day was spent in St. Martin.  The wife and I headed immediately to Orient beach.  There were 4 ships in port that day so we knew things were going to be crowded.  The cruise ship tours all seem to concentrate in the center of the beach.  The beach is very long and seems to have room for just about everything...jet skis, sailboats, etc.   We ended up a bit left from the center of the beach but not too far from the center.  I had a black thong on under a pair of small speedos and my wife had a small rio bikini on just to be safe to start. There was no need for safety.
The sheer quantity of the people mixing was an interesting dynamic.  The men and women in gstrings or topless that had no problem walking thru the VERY crowded cruise ship people was pretty wild.  Lots of sideways glances but NO foul comments or language.  I was very happy that people seem to be much more tolerant than even a few years ago.  But, this was definitely a beach where people were comfortable in what they had on (or off.).
I would say that the average age of the people walking the beach though had to be close to 50.  I was hoping to see a younger crowd of thongs/topless but this seems to NOT be the place.  This was NOT Miami or Hawaii.  This definitely was a retiree -- care free -- place to hang out.  Lots of great older couples in matching thongs too which we found funny (in a good way).
The beach had a bunch of good waves (3-6 foot) but they were too quick to crest so bogey-boarding was just average.  The beach has a decent current and so the kids did not venture too far from shore.  The sand was just average.  Overall, the beach did have a lot to do and I'm sure there is a fun bar scene in the evenings.  Personally, I thought the beach was very overcrowded and the visitors were MUCH older than my wife and I.   We will plan to check out the other "more secluded" beaches on the French side the next trip.

Just wanted to share, there are some great deals this year for the off season to St Martin.  I just booked 5 nights for a studio right on orient bay for first week in June.  Plane tickets were $405 each from Boston and the place we found was only $90/night on AirBnB.  Total trip cost is about $1300 for two people.  I was there off season last year too - it's great, you get the Island to yourself.

Spark2100, if you go thonging on the textile part of Orient Beach, I'd be really interested to know how the public reacts.  The public was very annoying on my recent trip to Tulum, and Orient Beach is even more plagued with, er, heavily used by American cruise ship tourists who come to gawk and are all armed with cameras.

Re: St. Martin annoying cruise ship passengers. I have to agree with Spark. From our (cruise) stopover a year ago, it's the same people who get excited if a thong shows up at the local community pool. Of some hope is the surprising number of fellow-passengers who grab a cab and head straight to the yellow umbrellas of Club O. A cruise line with a "European" tanninig deck would have a unique competitive advantage with no additional expense except signage.

We were in St Maarten last year for 5 weeks and every time we went to Orient beach I was nude on the CO side and wore a tiny g string on the textile side. The reactions were surprise, smiles, laughter, positive comments, pictures taken- with them or not but no derogatory remarks. The way I look at it is I'm there doing what I want to and they can do whatever they want to do. It doesn't bother me in the least. Can't wait to go again this August for 5 more weeks!!

I was at Orient Beach a while back and just visiting but decided to walk into the local store on site. I walked thru the grounds totally nude right into the store on the resort. I walked around a bit, grabbed a six pack of beer and went to the check out counter. I had a semi boner at this time but gave the lady my money and checked out. I got my change and beer and walked out . That was a totally Kool experience. I wish you could do in the USA..

I've walked the entire length of Orient beach in a g-string - that's completely acceptable.  Sexy Fruits, Adam & Eve and the small one farther down - I think its in front of Kon Tiki - are all thong/g-string friendly shops.  As are any of the  shops behind Andy & Cheryl's (Baywatch).  As far as restaurants go Pedro's, Andy & Cheryl's, Chez Leandra's, Ethnic (formerly the Pirate), TexMex are all good for thongs or g-strings.  The Perch and Papagayos on the nude beach side are fully nude as is the Club Orient store.  Remember if you go into a restaurant wearing a g-string or naked take a towel to sit on (we carry hand towels - small and easy to carry but they do the job).  Of course if you visit Luis' bikini hut behind Andy & Cheryl's you can't help but be nude while trying stuff on - that's no problem.  Hey, lots of stuff is "no problem, mon" on St. Martin, especially at Orient Beach.

Just got back last week from St Martin and visited a few beaches there.

Orient beach - is really good beach for nudism and thonging. All beaches in Orient Bay are thong friendly, nudism is accepted on all beaches before 9 A.M. and in front of Orient beach hotel. Have seen men in speedos, but have not seen any in thongs. Nudist beach is mostly in 45+ age group. Rating 4.5

Cupecoy beach - we were there on a rainy day, so not many people at all.. There are a few caves that are perfect for nudism or thonging. There are stairs to those caves so quite easy to access them. But we have seen a few people who like to watch you from the top :)
Rating 4.5

Anse Marsel beach - on the far north of the island, very calm clear water.  It had some families but it was topless and thong friendly (we've seen women topless and in thongs). We enjoyed it a lot. Rating 5.0

Plum Bay beach - this beach had almost no people.. It was in a private territory among villas. Great for thonging, but very bad for swimming - bit waves and rocky. Rating 3.5

Maho Bay beach - famous beach, lots of Americans. Not thong friendly, but nice water and lots of planes above you. Rating 4.0

Happy Bay beach - great beach for thonging and nudism, but choose a weekday. We were there twice - once on weekday and once on weekend. On weekday there were some naturists and we found it  secluded, peaceful and beatiful beach with calm water and nice views. On weekend it was totally different experience - lots of family groups that came for BBQ, all clothed and lots of children and dogs. Overall 4.5 (on weekday)

Tintamarre island beach - most of people come here by boat to snorkel. So thonging is fine and even nudism is fine, but this place is not very secluded. You can walk to some other rocky beach and there will be complete privacy but not good for swimming. Rating 4.0

I haven't had a chance to be on here since we got back. Here is what I observed this trip. First, My wife and I walked from the Alamanda to Club O and back everyday at least once. Leaving the hotel, I would wear a narrow  Joe Snyder thong and My wife would have a sheer Malibu string tiny g string on.

We never noticed and adverse reaction on the textile side. There were a lot of clothed people this time it seemed, even though there were only two days that cruise ships were in. There were a few other men in thongs and a few topless women, some in thongs as well. Two years ago there seemed to be more of that.

As the week went on there seemed to be more thongs. I think the numbers change by the day. Again there were no shocked looks or bad comments.

Everyone seems to have a camera in there hand all the time, not necessarily taking pictures of me or you. I just turn my head toward the ocean as I walk by. I'm confident even my mother couldn't positively identify me form a picture 30 yards away not facing the camera.

St Martin is the most comfortable place we have ever been. As we get to the rocks that separate the nude/textile side, we stop and remove our bottoms and continue to our chairs, then put them back on there for the return walk.

I wish the rest of the world could talk a lesson form St martin about live and let live. We will be back again next year.

Re:St Martin (St.Maarten) & Orient Beach

Here is my trip report:  I was in St. Martin on New Year's Eve.  I was on a cruise ship so I only had one day, and my wife decided to stay on the ship because she wasn't feeling well.  There were seven (7) cruise ships in port, so that gives you a lot of background for my report.  If you are on a cruise ship, it's very easy to get to Orient Beach -- exit and follow the sign to the taxi that takes you there, $7 if part of a group or $20 if alone.  The taxi dumps you at "Bikini Beach," from which you walk a short distance south to Club Orient. At Club O, you can rent a lounge and umbrella for $12 (?) I think, and you can buy drinks pretty reasonably there.  Obviously, Club O is the nude area.  On this trip, it was fairly popular but there were many lounges still available.  Gawkers do pass by, but surprisingly, there weren't too many.  Okay, now the "thong" part of my report.  Being by myself, it was boring just sitting there and tanning and reading, and there's only so much nude area to stroll without looking like a perv, so I tried out a thong walk on the textile side.  I wore my MS Poser 3/8" narrow with no apologies, it covers everything and is very comfortable.  I made two trips a couple of hours apart just to get a good sense of the thong acceptance factor and to see if I was missing something.  I don't know distances, but I did time myself and the farthest I went was 15 minutes "out" with a similar return.  That's pretty far.  I certainly could have gone farther but there really was no point.  The beach was jam packed with fat tourists and kids, and not a thong in sight except my own, and not really anything more to see, either.  No, wait, there was one chick in a pink g-string but she was spending the day at the nude side, so she doesn't really count.  Anyway, nobody hassled me but I got a lot of looks, and there was some laughter but it might not have been me, and it wasn't that much or annoying.  Another possible factor was the weather -- it was very windy and the tide was high, so there wasn't a very wide beach to walk on, leaving you very close to all the textile lawn chairs.  This might have affected things, or maybe the wind covered up all the annoying comments.  So be it.  Anyway, my conclusion is:  Feel free to wear a thong on Orient Beach, but be prepared to be the only one.  In fact, I really can't recommend Orient Beach for anyone, nude, thonged, or in bored shorts.  About the best I could say is that it's convenient.  It is just too crowded to be comfortable.  It would be much better just to thong at South Beach or go nude at one of the numerous nude beaches in Florida, all of which are preferable to Orient Beach IMHO.

Sorry to hear you had a lackluster experience at Orient Bay.  Your experience is definitely because of the cruise ships, all the would be thongers know to find a different beach when they are in town.  The textile side of the beach was mostly the same crowd that is on the ship you were on.  This is why I hate cruises - all the easy to get places on excursions get overrun with your shipmates so you don't get to experience the local culture - at all.

These stories only confirm my impression about cruise ships.Never been into one, but common sense tells me that i wouldn't enjoy it.
Thongers are definitely discerning people who don't fit pack mentalities.  The kind of tourists who go in cruises remind me of the kind of beachgoers who come to the beach late on a Sunday.  Loud cheap drunk yobbo tattoed  board short bogans...  the ones who would love to pick on a solitary thonger no matter how fit he or she is in a demeaning way.
My wife keeps pushing on the idea of going in a South Pacific cruise, she doesn't even like the beach and the sun for God's sake....i keep deflecting until she forgets but i know i will eventually have to comply.  Just have it done, i will stay with my teenagers kids wearing my tiniest speedos in the pool and find an adults only pool if there's any to sunbake in a thong....
Any negative perception of other passengers about my choice of swimwear will politely be addressed to the why don't you just go and fu***k yourself department.

Re:St Martin (St.Maarten) & Orient Beach

Date Posted:01/08/2016 02:31:34

Well, John, honestly it wasn't as bad as all that.  My main issues were simply that (a) it was too crowded on the beach, and (b) I was the only thonger.  However, nobody hassled me.  I simply don't like crowds, especially in tight quarters and where I'm the only thonger.  And I'm not exactly recommending against Orient Beach, I'm merely suggesting that it's not all it's cracked up to be for thongers, and that there are better places to thong.  As for the ship, I wore my Speedo with no issues, and saw a couple of others.  I don't regret the cruise, it was fun -- it's just "different" from my preferred beach experience.  The shipboard entertainment and food are great, and my family loved it.  Sometimes you have to compromise to make everyone happy.

John, if your wife does not like the sun or the beach, how about a European River cruse.  The boats are a lot smaller, and because the focus is on the old towns and cities, fine dining and good wine, with no beach to distract you, the two of you won't be in contention.  Being much smaller boats they are a bit more exclusive, which she might like.

facelessdrone2005 ,John Howard  , I as a thonger know the feeling to well. It's always when you kick off your shorts and expose your semi naked body to prude people around. What I tell myself is that I'm there to have fun in the sun and to enjoy myself. As far as people go they do laugh, they do point, they do go running to get their buddy to show us off. They may even be jealous of us for wearing those tiny sexy bikinis.  Follow your gut/instinct on what to wear be it a thong, g string , a sexy bikini or nothing. Be yourself and express yourself.

I wouldn't go so far as calling names of cruise ship people, they just enjoy different things than we do.  My comment was more that if you want to experience culture (the culture we are referring to in this case being locals that don't hassle people wearing skimpy attire), then packing onto a boat with a few thousand people from your home country probably isn't the way to do it.
If anyone wants to chat further lets move this to a cruise ship thread instead of hijacking this st martin experiences thread.

John, following on JM's suggestion, how about a first-class clipper ship sailing cruise?  Check out StarClippers.com for good rates, great destinations, fine international shipmates, interesting excursions, etc.  My wife and I have taken four, two in the Caribbean and two in the Mediterranean.  They also offer Asia sailings, closer to your bailiwick.  I've thonged/stringed on board by their tiny pools, as well as on the numerous beaches they set up their aquatic equipment when in exotic ports.  Some European women tanned topless.  Simply a very pleasant, tolerant environment, a super vacation.

This promo fits here because many of their Caribbean cruises originate out of St. Maarten!  Which when we were there meant fantastic stays at Orient Beach and other nearby, walkable c/o beaches.

All good points being raised above.  Here's my two cents... I used to work for the cruise lines and I've also vacationed several times on St Maarten and actually rented a condo at Orient Bay.  Orient Bay is a wonderful beach, probably one of the best on the island, but it does get overrun with cruise ship passengers mid-week when most of the Eastern Caribbean cruises are in port.  The cruise ship passengers are there for part of the day but quickly return to the ship (usually about 3-4pm) to reboard and move on.  The ships usually mention that Orient Bay has a nude beach area which I feel is appropriate to warn families, but it also creates curiosity amongst the adults.
When staying in the Orient Bay area, the experience is wonderful; relaxed, cordial and carefree.  Mornings see plenty of people strolling/running along the entire beach (clothed, thongs and naked).  After a certain hour (usually 9am), nudity is kept to the extreme south end.  Mid/Late-Afternoon when the cruise ship passengers leave, there's also a nice vibe along the beach and many of the beach bars.  I've enjoyed thonging along the entire beach and even enjoyed a few beers during Happy Hour at a few of the beach bars along the textile section without any looks or comments.  On days when there are no ships in Phillipsburg, the beach is pure heaven... busy, but no crowds and completely relaxed.
No matter how you get to Orient Bay (land stay or cruise ship), enjoy the beauty of the beach!

Re:St Martin (St.Maarten) & Orient Beach

Date Posted:03/02/2016 03:31:37

My wife and I recently spent 10 days at a small hotel called the Palm Court in Orient Bay on St. Martin.  It takes about 2 minutes to walk from the hotel to Orient Beach.  The beach is about 1.5 miles long with the southern one-quarter mile or so being a nude beach.  All but about 100 feet of the nude beach is in front of the Club Orient nudist resort. An independent vendor rents umbrellas and lounge chairs on the 100-foot section:  $10/day for an umbrella and one lounge chair, $15/day for an umbrella and 2 lounge chairs.

There are 6 main beach areas named after the restaurants/bars that front them and rent umbrellas and lounge chairs. Going from north to south, they are Coco, Waikiki, La Playa, Bikini, Kakao, and Kontiki. North of Coco Beach there is some undeveloped land, and further north are some condos that have a beachfront presence.  There is also a small beach in front of a public parking area just south of Bikini Beach that is free of vendors renting umbrellas and lounge chairs, and the beach in front of the shops just north of the nude beach is also free of beach vendors.

Guests of the Palm Court Hotel have free use of umbrellas/lounge chairs at Waikiki and Kakao.  Kakao seemed to have more children and uptight people than Waikiki, so I spent most of my time at Waikiki – when I was not at the nude beach.

The entire beach is topless, and nudity is allowed all along the beach before 9:00 AM and after 6:00 PM.  However, there are no lifeguards and there is no beach patrol, so the dress code is a guideline, and it is enforced unevenly by the folks who run the various beach concessions.  I was able to be nude at Waikiki Beach as late as noon on one day before someone from the business asked me to put something on.  10:30 AM was the earliest when I was asked to cover up there.

The only swimsuit I wore was a teardrop, net g-string.  This was perfectly acceptable everywhere along the beach and at the hotel’s pool.  I walked up and down the full length of the beach at least once a day in it.  I also wore it without any cover-up when walking between the hotel and the beach.

In general I would characterize the vast majority of beachgoers – on the main beach as well as on the nude beach – as over fifty and overweight.  The majority appeared to be Americans, and the swimsuit styles were the usual board shorts, one-pieces, and bikinis that would be seen on US beaches including some very cheeky styles on the younger women.  There were also a fair number of fit people, topless women, women wearing thongs or g-strings, and men wearing speedos.  There were not many men in thongs or g-strings, but there were some. There were also several couples who were both wearing thongs (usually with the woman topless).

However, everyone minded his/her own business.  My wife’s skin does not tolerate the sun well, so our time together was in the early morning and late afternoon.  Therefore, a certain amount of my beach time was spent by myself.  I was never felt uncomfortable, and in fact got some compliments on my swimsuit.  One day when walking the beach, two American women walking towards me stopped and asked me to pose for them.  One said that my swimsuit was the best she had seen and wanted to be able to tell everyone that she had hung out with me.  She unabashedly took close-ups of the front of my suit.

Another time when walking, I had stopped to watch a parasailer when a topless woman in a g-string came up beside me and started a conversation.  She had a cute French accent and seemed to be in her mid-thirties.  After the usual small talk, I complimented her on her sheer g-string, and she returned the compliment saying that the snug fit and the holes in my suit made it very sexy.  It turned out that she was a single mother with 10- and 12-year old daughters who were playing in the surf.  Both girls wore only bikini bottoms that were very conservative.  In response to a question from the mother, I pointed out that there was a shop down the beach called Luiz that made custom swimsuits where she could get something more stylish for the girls.  The mother said that her daughters had asked her for g-string swimsuits like hers, but she thought that they were too young to wear them – although she had absolutely no concern that the girls were topless.

I saw a number of families in which the mother was topless wearing a thong, the father was wearing a speedo, the daughters were wearing bikini bottoms only, and the sons were wearing speedos or trunks.  If I was close enough to hear them talking, I noticed that the language being spoken was invariably French.

The Palm Court Hotel has only 28 rooms, and so the pool was never crowded.  It is run by French-speaking people (who also speak English), and some of the guests were French speakers, so there were topless women at the pool.   However, none of the English-speaking women went without a top.

On the first day after coming back from the beach, I wore the same teardrop, net g-string at the pool that I wore on the beach.  On the second day, I stopped by the office, mentioned to the woman at the desk how much I enjoyed the nude beach, and asked if it would be OK to go nude at the pool.  Her reply was, “But, of course!”  She said it in a manner that suggested that there was no need to ask.

I spent several days nude when I was at the pool.  One other man did likewise.  None of the other guests seemed to care.  People who worked at the hotel saw me many times and said nothing.  Then one day as I was emerging from the pool, a different woman who worked in the office saw me and told me that nudity is not allowed at the pool.  I explained that another woman in the office had told me that it was OK and that I had been doing it all week.  However, she insisted that I put something on.  The teardrop, net g-string was sufficient.

I prefer being nude at the beach and pool.  I wear a g-string only when necessary.  Overall. I spent almost 50% of my beach and pool time nude (not considering the time I spent at the official nude beach).  People who simply wish to wear thongs or g-strings will have no issues at Orient Beach.

In general, the attitude towards nudity was very casual and laid-back.  Whenever I was told to put something on at the beach or pool I was not able to determine if it was because someone had complained or because a particular employee personally objected or was exercising power or whatever.

The nude beach was very crowded.  Umbrellas are placed so close to each other by the beach attendants that they are almost touching.  There is not much dry sand, so there are only 1 to 3 rows of umbrellas depending on how wide the beach is in the area.   If you want elbow room, this is not the right place.  I tolerated it for a few hours most days because I wanted the freedom to be nude in a relaxed atmosphere.

I suspect that you could get away with nudity on the beach in front of the undeveloped area north of Coco Beach, but I never tried it.  Because the sun is so strong, I wanted an umbrella to shade my head and shoulders at least for some of the time, but I was unable to find a store that had beach umbrellas for sale in the Orient Bay area.

I’ve posted pictures on my Images section that document my swimwear and lack thereof at the beach and pool.

Try http://www.dreambeachvacationssxm.com/S-Night_Life.shtml.  There are a number of gourmet restaurants in Grand Case.  We stay at Club Orient so usually visit their restaurant Papagayo.  Depending on the night of the week they might have island entertainment or a dance.  The nice thing about Papagayo is that you can do it all in the nude.   Although,  high heels on otherwise naked women is always a nice touch for an evening of dining, drinking and dancing.   There is a slick tourism oriented magazine, Discover St.  Martin (http://www.discover-magazines.com/images/magazines/discoversbh20/index.html#20), available everywhere for free.

Greetings from SXM, my fellow thong lovers. I'm here until next Wednesday. Anyone else sunning their buns while I'm visiting? I'd love to meet up with any members who are in the Orient beach area. Thongs are still pretty commonplace among the women, but I've also seen a handful of other men with excellent swimwear taste.  I'm spending most of my time nude but wearing thongs for my beach walk. Cheers!

Home from SXM, so I thought I'd give you guys a more detailed thong summary.
The good news is that I did see guys other than myself in thongs. Typically, I saw 2-3 guys each day, but some days I saw one. There were two guys I saw every day for the first few days of my visit. They both had clearly picked a thong they liked and bought it in several colors, with one guy opting for neon colors and the other going for more jewel tones. I also saw a few men walking with their wives while wearing thongs. In all but one case, the wives were not wearing thongs. One of the guys wore a red N2N brand, but I'm not sure what the other brands were. I particularly liked the suit one guy wore, a wider back thong in a dark indigo. There were no guys I saw in g-strings, though I wore my white tiger striped Skinz string one day on my walk.
Several stores on the beach sold men's thongs.  Most notably was the famous shop of Luiz, a talented designer who makes swimsuits, sarongs, and jewelry himself. I stopped in my first day to see the man behind the legend. He showed me some ready made thongs he had in stock. They reminded me of Andrew Christian in terms of colors: yellow trim with pouches and thongs in turquoise, lime, fuschia, and black, all sewn with contrasting stitching done in fuschia. He also had a few similarly designed pouches without a thong, which is what he recommended for me. I wasn't fond of the floral net fabric those were made of, and while I know they were designed as such to allow a "one size fits all" option for people who wanted to make a purchase that day, I didn't like the fact that the suits had side ties, though he said he could take one home and size it to me to not have the ties. He also offered to make me anything I'd like. I was tempted, but the $40 price tag was a bit high for me, despite his wonderful craftsmanship. I stopped in again on my last day, just to say goodbye, but he was busy with another male customer, the guy was looking at some nice square cut designs that had a bun-g style front. Though he was speaking in French, I heard the man question about a g-string, but I had to move on.
In conclusion, if you want to wear a thong, you can in SXM with little to no issue. Like anywhere, you will still likely get some looks or a quiet giggle, but you're not going to get harassed.  The fact that the majority of the people are headed up the beach to get nude may have some bearing on that fact. However, I miss the way things were on my first trip there in 2001, when you truly saw at least one man in a thong in front of every hotel/restaurant/bar's seating area as you walked the beach. Sadly, board shorts reign supreme, even among the European guests. Still, it was good to be able to wear my thongs with relative ease and actually see a few other guys doing the same.

We'll be in St Martin from 9/17 until 10/15 and will be visiting Orient beach a few times during that period. If anyone will be there, email me and we'll see if we can get together.

So I am here in St Martin for the week at the Alamanda on Orient beach and it is great as always.  Have seen one older but reasonably fit man walk the beach with his wife in a gstring, I think they came the nude section so this was just his "coverup".  People would look briefly, but thats about where the reactions end.  It is apparently the slowest month of the year and likewise, many things are closed.
I had a question as to where a woman's gstring could be obtained, preferably on the cheaper end.  Maybe some one knows a reasonably priced shop in Marigot?.  My friend is visiting soon and wants one but does not want to drop 40 euros for a piece of string.

Has Adam & Eve reopened on Orient Beach?  They sold them before their store was plowed under.  Also look for Luiz (follow the sign) and get something off his rack.  Sexy Fruits might have something, too.

To report back, in September nearly everything is closed.  That said, it was a cool time to visit, and I would do it again.  I have some sad news to report, however.  I was talking to a local, and Happy Bay is going to become a club med.  Also Coupecoy is going to become a bunch of highrise hotels on the undeveloped section in front of the mall.  I would visit soon if you want to enjoy these beaches before they change for good.

I certainly hope that the report of Happy Bay becoming a Club Med is wrong.  My wife and I have visited that area of French St Martin the last 5 years. We stay at Grand Case Beach Club and love Friar's  Bay and Friar's Bay Beach Club, both next to Happy Bay.  Baie Rouge (Red Bay) and Friar's Bay are the 2 beaches I thong (or less at Baei Rouge) in addiion to our resort.  This would change Friar's Bay forever.

It's not wrong.  Some work near happy bay has already begun, but if you visit soon, you'll be happy to know the construction is not near the shore yet.

We are looking into visiting the French side of St. Martin between mid-October and late-November next year.  How common have thongs/G-strings and topless been recently (the past couple of years), especially during that time of year?  How do you think the new Club Med resort and high rise hotels will impact the beaches overall and impact the thong/G-string/topless environment?  Will they mostly impact Happy Bay and Coupecoy, or will they impact Orient Beach also? What ages are the men and women who wear thongs/G-strings/go topless on Orient Beach/other beaches in St. Martin?

St Martin will still be the best spot in the Caribbean for thongs, I wouldn't worry about it.  October is the low season, most things closed, very few people around so just do what you want.

Stayed on Orient Beach for a week.  Not a lot of minimal swimwear.  About 5% of women walking at the nude end of the beach were in thongs or topless, but such sightings were rare on the rest of the beach.  I saw maybe one man per day in a thong.

I wore a SWICthongs teardrop g-string, which was by far the smallest suit anyone had. I saw one other man in a g-string the whole week. I saw maybe one or two women per day in a g-string.

I got no negative comments, even when walking along the entire length of the beach when it was crowded. As advised on this board, I walked along with confidence and a smile.  There were a few stares and some pictures taken, but not many.  Most people paid no attention.  I got a few compliments.  One afternoon a couple of women were topless walking the whole beach and appeared to be really enjoying themselves, but they were the only topless women.

I went to Pinel Island one day, and there were a lot of families with children.  They paid no attention to me.  No pictures were taken of me.  The beach attire was mostly baggy pants and T-shirts for men, swimdresses and coverups for women.  Just one girl was in a thong.

The range of swimwear on Orient Beach was slightly mixed, with a few of the men wearing above the knee shorts, and a few swim briefs.  At any time, about half the people on the beach were not in any swim attire.  Orient Beach has a reputation for minimal swimwear, and it still appears to be tolerated, but few people take advantage of this option.

My wife and I stayed at the Esmeralda Resort in French SXM during July 4th week. The resort was great, each four-unit villa has it's own private pool that the staff said was clothing-optional so we took advantage, also included with the room are free chairs and an umbrella at Coco Beach Restaurant/Bar just down the sidewalk on the beach. This was our second visit to French SXM and small swimwear, topless and nude was definitely the norm everywhere on the beach...most days we just wore our thongs from our room and walked through the resort and the restaurant/bar onto the beach without a cover-up. My wife wore a g-string/topless and I wore some of my smallest micro see-through g-strings that wouldn't even be an option almost anywhere else, a week just wasn't long enough on wonderful Orient Beach and we can't wait to go back.

On another website, ttol.com, there are links to various pictures and videos of Orient Beach on St Martin, and I was awestruck by the devastation caused by Huricane Irma. ALL of the beach bars and small shops that lined the beach are gone, and for most of them there is absolutely no trace. They simply disappeared. Club Orient, the clothing-optional resort at which my wife and I stayed a number of times, is similarly devastated and of those buildings still standing, all are just shells with the interiors completely washed out.

Orient Village, which was back from the beach and behind the row of beach bars, has been transformed into waterfront property. From the videos it appears that all of the buildings in the village have significant damage and several seem to have been destroyed. Orient Beach has been our absolute favorite place to visit for both thonging and nude sunbathing, and it looks like it will be a very long time before it returns to being a viable vacation spot.

Ctmonline's previous post mentioned the Coco Beach bar, and I regret to report that this also seems to have completely disappeared.

This our favorite place as well for going nude or thonging, so sorry to see the devastation from Irma.

It's a shame there's so much destruction of the buildings and infrastructure.  It's possible some areas may be "dedeveoloped" which could help expand nude use in the future.  Knowing how "island time" runs for construction and how the logistics of rebuilding half the islands will be I think it may be 10 years before things are anywhere back to normal.

More importantly, the people of St Martin and St Maarten have been delt a serious blow to their current and future health and happiness.    Let's all wish them the best.   My wife and I have spent our St Martin vacations on the west coast of French St Martin (Grand Case area) and have seen pictures of the terrible devastation of both modern and traditional construction. The resort where we stay has started a fund raising effort not for the resort but for the employees who will be out of work for a year or more.
