I remember seeing Stand-Up Paddleboarding (SUP) for the first time about ten years ago in Hawaii.  Nowadays, you can find SUP just about anywhere you can find a body of water.

As I am motivating myself to get in shape for the spring/summer, I came across SUP-ing as a way to be in a thong out on the water.  I think it would be a great way to steer out of beaches/rivers/lakes that are a little too crowded.  Has anyone had any experience SUP-ing in a thong?

NO but I did it while wearing a rio while on vacation in Fiji.It is a great work out for the core and legs as balancing is a lot more difficult than it seems.

Agree with pkthong, the balance needed to successfully SUP does enhance the core. I like it as an alternative to sea kayaking. I did read that someone had combined SUP with Yoga, which would really be amazing. When I do SUP it's with a rash vest and thong one piece.

I've not done it yet but I have thought about it. And I would bank on it being absolutely terrific.  Anytime you can combine a great water activity with thonging you get synergistic enjoyment!

Coming from a life of surfing (30 years plus) I can see how SUP would be a great all-body work-out, with core strength a focus.
I could also see how it could benefit an all-body tan...!

Had an amazing thonging experience at range pond in Maine today. I rented a SUP board and hit the water. It was  great way to get some sun and a workout at same time. It felt amazing to feel so free. Lots of kayakers that just pass you buy along the edge of the water and no hassles from anyone. I am definitely hooked on combining these two past times.

I have thonged on a Stand Up Paddle Board.

Like running, or any other active activity, the reactions to a man in a thong seem far more positive than if just standing around or laying out in a thong.

Probably the most positive reactions were at Columbus Day Regatta in Miami, where thongs, topless and drinking are common.  Well rewarded with strings of beads, a bit like Mardi Gras, free drinks and offers of food.

Spent an hour on Sebago Lake in Maine this morning on my SUP. I was in my muscleskins poser in pink. Beautiful morning paddling into the sun then returning. The water was like glass and temps in high sixties for the lake water. This is a terrific way to combine exercise and thonging.

Spent another morning on the waters of Sebago Lake on my board in a thong. Beautiful day up here and the marine patrol was out early checking for pfd's. I think that they just let it go because they did not know how to deal with me in a thong. I got the sense that they saw me through binoc's then approached slowly. They were about 75' away when they asked if I had a vest. I was surprised that I needed one, and will probably consider one to at least strap to the board. Anyway it was exciting to have an interaction and a positive one at that. I was wearing an ultimate exposure thong. Purple with polka dots and a yellow tail. I was surprised at the value of this brand. Lycra is comfy and stretches nicely. Fabric in front is not see through when wet.

Yes, we have the same problem here when in a kayak, they come by to make sure we have a life jacked on board, even though most rotor molded kayaks are, in an of themselves, and unsinkable life raft.
Off the beach they don't ask for PDF's on paddleboards, but during the Columbus Day regatta we take an elastic bungy and strap one to the board just so we don't get hassled by the swarms of cops in boats trying to ogle thongs and tittles.

I've seen a number of YouTube videos showing folks riding SUPs and several of the ladies are wearing thongs. Many of these are staged fashion or board manufacturer videos, but some seem to be truly average folks paddling as a group. This one is interesting.

It looks like something I'd like to do. I used to kayak in my thong...

I've done SUP in Negril Jamaica.  (photo in my profile).  I started out thong clad, but went nude once I got about a hundred yards or so off the beach.

I own two SUP's and live in east TN.  I do plenty of workouts with them on the local lakes in minimal speedos with no problem.  I generally stay on the main channel and avoid small coves whenever venturing into them would put me uncomfortably close to the fishermen in small boats.  One of my favorite workouts on the SUP's is to start out by swimming upstream, towing the SUP with both standup and kayak paddles behind me.  After I get tired of swimming, I then get on board and alternately paddle with the SUP and kayak paddles.

Standing up with the kayak paddle?  Is it long enough?  Kneeling sounds great, good core exercise.  Plan to buy a SUP soon here in south FL, and I like the idea of using a kayak paddle, too.  Thanks for the idea.

SlidingG:  what I meant is that I actually sit down on the paddle board, effectively using it as a kayak whenever I use the kayak paddle.  The advantage it has over the SUP paddle is that I can paddle at a much higher rate.  Each individual stroke is less powerful, but you are always pulling, so it generally goes faster, particularly if you are paddling into a headwind.  However, it is no longer a whole body exercise as it is standing up.

Tracks better, too, I'll bet.  Though as an old white-water canoer, I don't have to switch sides with the SUP paddle as most folks do, so that tracks well, too.  Wish I still had that old kayak paddle, though, would be fun to try your technique, and kneeling with it, as well.  One of these days I'll probably break down and wear a thong out on the SUP, too, though as a sworn non-exhibitionist, I'm still a little hesitant.  Long, open-water swims is one thing, always in a Speedo thong, but flaunting your bare ass so publicly on an SUP is bound to attract attention!  At least more than I like.

Yeah, as much as I'd like to wear a thong when getting out on a SUP, on Lake Austin the yahoo powerboat crowd would be a problem. Wakes are enough of a challenge, but I wouldn't put it beyond some of these people to get way too close at speed.Right now Lake Travis is so low that SUP would be great, and in a thong as well since so few boats can launch and the open water areas are reduced. There are small sailboats but that's a whole nicer mentality and certainly no collision hazard.

Had my first go on an SUP at Easter here in Aus on the protected waters of Shoal Bay. Wore only an Aussie Bum Classic Brief 1.5" in Azzure (mid-blue).
Great work-out, and got a few waves (from a group of girls on the beach, not the surf kind of wave). Good fun which I will do again next year, but hopefully in a thong ;)

Read my recently posted "Thong with friends- experiences?"

I had my first go on an SUP on this same holiday (as mentioned above) with these guys. One of the others, who regularly wears the speedo, owns the SUP. I went out on it in my Aussie Bum.
I figure if I do the pier jump in my thong as I outlined, I'll be able (an probably dared/encouraged) to paddle the SUP in my thong also. They won't let me NOT do it I think!
I do everything else in front of them in my 1.5" Aussie Bums, so they will be at me to wear the thongs just to see if I will. And I will ;).
I will absolutely love it too!

My daughter and I took a SUP yoga class from a husband and wife team. We both wore thongs. The husband instructor wore a speedo brief and the wife was wearing a cheeky bikini. I was a little worried about how revealing my daughter and my suits were, but with all of the twisting, turning, and falling into the water, most women ended up with their suits pulled up and bottoms exposed.

My wife and I love SUP'ing.  I have been reading up on the local authorities' views of thongs, as I will likely wear one publicly for the first time on my paddle board.   The combination of core strength and balance required make it a favorite pursuit of ours; like swimming, there is no impact, but the resistance is there.  I have a 12' 6" ATX Maverick (an older race board) and frequently go 5-7 miles with our dog or one of the kids.   Consider trying out a "planing hull" AND a "displacement" hull for comparison before buying one.  My wife has the simpler planing type and prefers the maneuverability; mine is the displacement type and turns slower, but keeps up with most similarly proportioned kayaks.   I would post pictures, but cannot figure out how....

I bought an inflatable paddle board specifically to get some exercise while wearing a thong.  It has been great getting out and exploring the local area, getting some exercise, and some sun.  Other than the 1st time taking it out when I wore briefs, I’ve worn a thong every time without issue.  There are a number of parks in the area with water access.  I have to inflate the SUP each time before taking it out and I do all the prep work in my short shorts then strip down once I’ve gotten a little ways away from the park.  I haven’t been bold enough yet to depart & return to shore or inflate & deflate in just a thong.  I don’t want to get any complaints since the parks have attendants, and although thongs are legal I don’t want issues.  Definitely looking forward to warmer weather when I get start getting out again!

I go out to the lake close to me and the beach is very small and there is no room to go for a stroll.  I go for and swim a couple “laps” but it’s not much.  I have really been thinking of exploring the SUP option and thonging on the lake to get some excersize, sun on both sides (and buns).  I don’t have any expeerience in SUP but was wondering if more of you have been thinking of doing this too?
