I'm str8 and I wear everything, but mostly nothing during spring, summer and fall.
Everything means... Strings, thongs, bikinis, briefs, speedos, boxers briefs and yes, even the hated boxers

One benefit of  this direct question is to document what we all have been saying, that wearing thongs is not related to sexual orientation.
Personally, I am heterosexual in that I am exclusively attracted in a sexual manner to women (sorry guys). I am confident enough to be able to be friends with folks with other orientations (heck, I can even talk calmly with Republicans from time to time). The human body is a wonderful thing and I can appreciate an outstanding specimen of either sex.  My clothing  preference is driven by my "wear the least that is appropriate" philosophy.

Would you have preferred (heck, I can even talk calmly with Democrats from time to time)? If so, feel free to substitute in your mind.
This was not a political jab, but an attempt at a commentary on our times when some folks cannot communicate with those with other sexual, religious, political, or even swimwear choices than theirs. If that insinuation was not clear, my apologies.

Ahem . . . . Bmicro, as a staunch Republican, I'll gladly oblige and substitute Democrat for all you say above.  Heck, I probably chat amiably with some of them while thonging at the beach without even knowing it!  Hmmm . . . . I'll don an elephant-head g-string if you don a jackass one.  Then we can show folks that we even talk to each other!

I am straighter than straight and married.   Where thongs on the beach when I can, and don't typically wear underwear.  Wife wears G-strings on the bach and goes topless when she can, and wears G-string underwear every day.

My wife and I both agree that trying to label sexual preferences into just 3 choices is at best a silly idea and at worst, completely ludicrous. We have come to prefer the term "heteroflexible" and much prefer it over "bi-situational".  As to the idea that sexual preferences somehow affect swimwear choices, who's idea was this anyway:) We both like to oogle and be oogled and sexual preferences have nothing to do with either, just an appreciation of the visual nature of life as well as an appreciation of minimal swimwear and or nudity. If you want to label us, we would prefer "perverted hubby" and "sweetheart wife" who indulges him:)
Happy Thonging!

I'm bi, although haven't been able to enjoy it for the last couple of years since we stopped swinging.    My wife and I found the quality and quantity of bi guys  here in Ottawa to be very lacking.    Maybe it was just our bad luck or we were looking in the wrong places, I don't know.    Two years ago we were enjoying a nude beach in Cuba where I was checking out the younger couple next to us.   I still remember what he looks like, but can't remember her very much.     My wife said to go for it, so I started chatting with him by the shoreline.    That in itself was incredibly exciting, talking with another nude guy.   I told him that he looked much better without clothes, hoping for some sort of response, but he seemed not to know what to say.   The next day I was checking him out again and got hard thinking about what fun I could have with him.   I didn't hide my hardon and they both noticed.    He soon became hard too, so I thought maybe there's a chance.    I got to chatting with him again, unfortunately nothing came of it again.    Anyways, sorry about the little story here, I just think it would be a blast to meet up with a guy and really explore what fun two guys can have.    I guess I just miss our wild and crazy days.

Sexuality is complicated, in modern society we use labels because it makes us feel more comfortable to identify something for what it is. Over time we have put ourselves into boxes that tick a certain criteria to conform with what society wants, and in a sense we have desensitised a part of our natural sexual senses over many years. You can't help who you find attractive and fall in love with, whether it's the opposite or same sex. You can go through life being so sure of who you are and then one day it can all change. Anyway enough of the deep thought, wearing thongs doesn't really prescribe your sexuality it's just who you are.

Although many here are upset by the question, and I *do* understand why, there are some very insightful and terrifically honest answers here.  I mean, where else would you find perhaps half of respondents say they were bisexual?  With even balances of full straight and full gay and everything in between?  Way to go!

Anyway I liked especially the responses below, I see myself in all of them.  A common thread is that thongs and/or nudity are a part of the sex lives of some and not others.  I think the respect and tolerance of this coexistence is very important to maintain.  I believe all freedom incurs responsibility, while maximizing freedom with careful agreements is something we should all attempt.

Like upthecrack describes, I have my own mix of desires, outdoor nudity being a major turn-on.  I wish it weren’t so, but it’s part of my orientation.  The psychological community now calls this overwhelmingly predominant form of exhibitionism a “paraphilia,” not a disorder, when the person respects other people's rights.  Especially since almost *all* people have it to *some* degree.  So whenever I have freedom to be naked, I have the solemn obligation to respect everyone who doesn’t want to take part in my exhibitionism.  I find almost nothing as stimulating as being with or encountering women who enjoy my display.  And I find the purely nude or only decorated nude human body is its most attractive state.  But like almost all men, I love compliments from or visible arousal in men when they see me nude.  Hardness is like coughing, very contagious!  And while I enjoy very adrenalin-based sports, I love to wear very feminine panties like lacy and frilly g-strings, especially outdoors like at the beach.  The softness, tiny but stretchy fronts, and delicate colors are quite a thrill.  But I have no general interest in cross-dressing.  I guess that makes me mostly str8, with important extras!

It all depends on how you view Sex.  Is there a difference between sex and making love? Is sex just an act of getting off? or can it sometimes be emotional an sometimes not?

Men tend to differ from women.

Many men can have an intimate/loving relationship with women and would never think of this with a man. Many of these same men partake in homosexual activity just for the sake of getting off.  This is why Transexuals are so popular with str8 men. Female looking with the sex drive of a male.

This is why I do not partake in the labeling gay bi str8.    Everyone has a different view.

Maybe we should start saying Emotionally str8, sexually bi.  or Emotionally gay, sexually bi.  (or any other combination)

Just like I am Fiscally conservative, socially moderate, and sexually liberal.

I think it's a fair enough topic, as long as it's discussed intelligently.

Firstly, I'm bisexual and i think thong-wearing is related - but not how you might think. I think the same confidence i have in myself to deal with my sexuality gives me the courage to wear what i want where i want. That doesn't mean everyone who wears thongs is bi, it just means that for me it's about being comfortable in who i am. I go nude at nude beaches, thongs elsewhere.

Me?  I'm just a regular guy who's simply sensuous and always feeling erotic.  Always have been.  I hate labels like everyone else although I do consider myself bisexual only because I simply enjoy and admire other guys who like their bodies and I like to hang-out with those guys at the beach, on the golf course, playing baseball, and all the rest of the jock stuff.  The freedom to be a part of this brotherhood is the greatest.  At a favorite nude beach in the WA Desert most if not all the guys, girls, MF couples are bi.  Simply put, it's all about being free and really enjoing life.

Wearing women's thongs makes you bi -  (!) and (?).
I am bi, and do enjoy wearing both women's and men's underwear but am pretty sure that that choice doesn't determine my sexuality.
That being said, I do sorta agree that I do feel a bit more femme when wearing a thong, or bikini, made of a softer/more sensual material.
I have plenty of underwear from both genders and do think the women's underwear CAN be "softer" for lack of a better word, for example in comparing my boy shorts (Joe Snyder for men versus Vie for women) I find the Vie to be thinner and softer; certainly a different sensation, and both very exciting, although in different ways.

Completely straight all my life, and proudly straight. I personally hate that mini-crossdressing/thong-wearing is associated with homosexuality. It's quote the opposite. I have such a turn-on towards women (due to my heterosexuality) that their underwear and replication of the feeling it gives them is just a major spark for me. I couldn't imagine feeling the same way if I were gay. It just doesn't do it for me.
Your body was made with teeth, so you chew food. Your body was made with legs, so you walk. Your body was made with a penis/vagina (whatever gender you are), so...

Before I came onto this site, I had the impression, generally, that thongs were for gay guys. WRONG. Because of this site, I am surprised just how many straight men seem to be into thongs. But why not? I'm now 60 years old, a conservative gay guy and have always taken an interest in what men wear under their pants/shorts (observation on the beach/gym/sauna etc). I have come to the conclusion that what a man wears under his pants gives no indication to his sexual orientation. Now when I see a male wearing a thong, I accept that he may be straight, gay, bi or whatever other sexual type of orintation is out there. On the female side, sorry, can't give any comment.

I'm male. If pressed for an answer, I would have to say bi. I find women way more interesting, but do find fit men good to look at as well. As for porn, I respond to female-female, male-male and any mixture of the sexes. That being said, I tend to be pretty picky and only like to see bodies that are quite fit. And yes, the interest in men was enough to explore sex with a few.

I am very comfortable with my sexuality. I am straight and absolutely love women. I do appreciate good looking men. I have been hit on by men often and appreciate the complement. There have been a few men that I have found remarkably attractive. But I don't see me crossing the fence. There is something about women that sparks my interest, my desire, my erotic arousal, and my intellectual want to know more.

My wife and I are both bisexual.  We both wear thong underwear, she often wears thong bikinis in public on beaches, at public pools, and public hot tubs.  I have worn thong bikini swimwear on our boat, at Hedonism II, and on Lake Michigan beaches only a few times.
I understand the concern brought up in this thread regarding bringing sexuality into thonging, but I might look at it in a different manner.  What you wear doesn't determine your sexuality, but your sexuality may have an impact upon what you wear.
Being gay or bisexual puts you into a minority.  If you're in a minority and yet are still open and proud to show it, you probably have an outgoing, confident personality that isn't going to be easily quashed by public/societal opinion.  You're gonna wear what you want to wear!
I'm not as confident in wearing my swim thong in public as my wife is.  My wife has the sexiest ass around, and I love it when she shows it off!  My ass isn't quite as fit, toned, or smooth as hers, so I usually feel more comfortable in a bikini swimsuit, but depending on the situation I'll still sport the thong once in a while!

We are both bi sexual. When I wore a thong and then got my tan lines I felt a strong desire to be with a man. When I was 12-13 I used to get so turned on by muscled men in skimpy suits. I could get off all day. At 12 I took one of my sisters thongs and really began perving on men. When I had my first same sex experience it felt so natural and easy

Hereroflexible, may be bi. I’m sexually attracted to women and certain men. I’ve experimented with guys and some experiences were good, others not so much. My wife has participated in my experiences as well.  I say may be bi because I wouldn’t consider dating a guy or having sex with guys exclusively.

To me, it’s more about spicing up sex life every once in awhile.

Wearing thongs as underwear or beachweach does not define my sexuality. I'm happily married heterosexual guy and I wouldn't develop any deeper emotional realtionship with a man as I developed with my wife. And I don't comply about my intimate life quality. Notwithstanding, in terms of sexplay, I think I could try to have sex with my wife and another couple of our close friends including male-male stuff. So you can call it slightly bi-curious. Unfortunately, none of our close friends that we coud offer such an attraction is not as open minded as me and my wife are. I find women, thier bodies, the way they move or talk more attractive than men, but I have no problem with admiting that a guy looks pretty if his body is fit and in good condition.

Re:Straight, Gay or Bi ?

I am gay and I wear exclusively thongs for swimwear and underwear (except in flights, most of them over 14 hours). I also wear revealing spandex outfits for the gym (I arrange the boxer shorts between my glutei, like a ballet dancer and they cover only 2 cm under buttocks). However I don't feel sexy, I know I am wearing revealing clothes and I am bold, but in some way it's like being a missionary in viking land. I am quite formal and I have a lot of female attention in my working place. Usually it was easy to ignore them, but the last one was really beautiful, elegant and intelligent, she shares same readings and cultural interests. She is still trying to seduce me, after two years of friendship. It was a pity I don't like women a bit. It is funny: the older I get more beautiful are my female suitors. On the other hand, gay men in my country don't feel atracted to me (unless they are old enough to look at me as an old twink).

I'm gay and have always liked skimpy mens underwear, mainly thongs but also bikini briefs with narrow sides. I meet quite a lot of guys, and am always disappointed to find when they get undressed that they wearing unbrief-briefs or boxer shorts. Very rarely do I meet a guy in a thong.
