kiyoothong, I used to have a few guys make comments that they thought I was gay back in the early '90s. I was laying out with Maria and you could not overlook her if you liked beautiful women. Yet they couldn't comprehend that I could wear a thong and like women. Puzzling, isn't it?

ndeed Da6772..
Although wearing a thong at the beach find some conservative woman bit puzzled observing. Maybe they are bit confused not seeing any males having the guts to wear a thong and look as good some females.

One a recent visit to the beach one woman from a group just stared at me as I stood by the shoreline.

I watched a group of young females in bright colored thongs taking pictures of one another by the water. They all looked very confident wearing a thong. Felt they were diva like and making other woman little self conscious about there bodies compared to them. I strolled over making sure they seen me in my sling string. They were cooling off, standing in the shallow water. I think they were surprised that i can wear something so small and be well tanned. Definitely got the full attention of the self absorbed divas. I overheard compliment that I had the butt for it. Times have changed, years ago females would have criticized or found fault with a male wearing a thong.

Many years ago, I was tanning my buns at an Ohio State Park (Kiser Lake). This was in the 1990s when there was a serious effort to rid Ohio Parks of thongs, both on men and women. I usually got at lease one complaint per visit. Three young ladies, came along and ask if I could take pictures of them. I agreed and after a few pictures of them they ask if I would mind having my picture taken too. I said it would be okay. After they took a few pictures of me, they ask if they could come over and lay out near me. Again I didn't see anything wrong with what they proposed. We spent hours laying out, swimming and otherwise doing normal beach stuff. Eventually all of us left for the day. I thought the day was nice (even though they wore conventional bikinis) but figured this was a one-time occurrence.

The next time I went to the same beach, I was again sunning my backside and these young women pulled up into the parking lot. They immediately came over to were I was and again we had a present day. Over the rest of the summer, it seemed we met each other at least once a week. I got one of their phone numbers in early fall, and when spring came around, I called it, but nobody answered. Cell phones were pretty rare and expensive at the time, so I was calling them on a land-line. I went to the beach and this time, the young women had beaten me to the sand. Over the next 5 years, the four of us spent a lot of time together. The women never said anything about me wearing a thong, and I never pushed the issue with any of them.

There was no established schedule, we just ran into each other quite a lot. Sometimes they would bring a girl friend who at first seemed to be amused or perhaps confused by what I was wearing. They also brought some boys now and then, and if the boy said anything negative they would immediately tell them that women liked men who dressed like me or that a thong was a lot more masculine than board shorts were. There girls never had a negative word about my swimwear, and took it very casually.

What was interesting was that once I spent a lot of time with the girls, complaints stopped and nobody said anything negative about my thong. I think it was just being with others (perhaps women made the legitimacy of a thong more acceptable) that let me get by with so little.

Unfortunately, the girls (who were related somehow) moves the end of the sixth year, and there was no longer anyone to lay out with. Even at that time, the girls female friends would say things like "cute suit" to me, and even the males seemed interested in thongs, although none ever tried one on when I was there. You can have all the confidence in the world, but having others of either sex accepting what you are wearing goes a long way too.

Today, I still sometimes have women who ask if they can hang out with me and I always say yes. Fewer people have issues with a thonger when they appear to be accepted by others, and the more others they are, even if the others are not thongers too, the less wearing a thong to the beach seem to be unusual.

I guess I'm more approachable when I'm in a thong. Or maybe girls don't see me as a threat. I remember one time I was on the beach and this girl came up to me and asked if I could watch her stuff while she was gone to the washroom. There were other guys there and they were closer to her than I was. She bypassed all of those guys and came to me instead. I felt a bit flattered.

I was just thinking about this earlier today! I was thinking about how lucky women are to be able to sport a thong, and no one really bats an eye. However, people tend to make a bigger deal about a man in one. I really wish the double standard didn’t exist. I’m really hoping to take a day off from work, Monday, so I can go thonging at my local lake.

It is easy for men to say there is a double standard, and there is.....

However as a guy it is easy to be insensitive to the incredible amount of marketing and media that pushes women to look a certain way, and to think they are forever being judged on their appearance and cloths.

Women are terribly insecure about their bums, having been exposed to the perfect bodies fifteen-year-olds in photo-shopped adds for products to shave their legs or wash their bodies. Open any women's mag and almost every page you will find some portion of a semi-naked, perfect female form, and advertisements for products which will cure and cover. Which leaves most women over 22 embarrassed about their less than Kardashian bodies.

ou only need to look at the number of products in their makeup draw, or on the bathroom shelves, to see how successful the "your natural self is not perfect and needs this" marketing has become.

Our message board is full of stories by men who have difficulty encouraging reluctant women to have enough self-confidence to bare their bums in a thong. Once encourage into a thong they still fear the catty looks and comments from other women, which can be just as terrifying as men find the homophobic comments of teenage boys.

Both men and women need encouragement and reinforcement, delivered in a nonsexual way. A thumbs up and a smile, from a distance, is all it takes to send the message that you approve.

Women might get more of a pass, but it is not easy for them either. So life ain't fair. Blonds have more fun. Skinny girls get invited to more parties. Rich men get more young hot women. You are not going to change the status quo without upsetting some old prudes. Just have the courage to go out and publicly wear your thong, and support others who do too.

Life is not fair. You get old. It is rather likely that you will not look as good in a thong 20, 10 or even 5 years from now.  So now is the time to be bold. Lead the way and others will follow.

Sometimes people ask me if I ever get annoyed when someone makes a rude or homophobic remark. Many years ago I did. Now I have more self confidence, or thicker skin, and actually prefer they waist their breath on me, rather than annoy someone who might be more sensitive.

When you are a social pioneer you must expect some push back. Even Elvis and the Beetles got negative blow-back. This is the price one pays for being in the vanguard, but it makes it easier for others who come on behind.

Over the years people like myself, and many others, have made Fort Lauderdale a more tolerant place, even though we are invaded by many red-necks and tourists from more conservative states. Several people have told me that seeing me out in public in a thong did not make them want to wear one, but did make them want to live in a place where you could wear one, and as a result they moved here.

It does not take many people to change the tone of a conversation. Yes women in things get less grief from the homophobic. Then again, women in thongs get hit on by men far more. It is still a low level form of harassment, just in a different form.

So put on your thong. Go to the beach, and if you want the glory and protection of women invite them to join you for the day.

JM I think you are too readily overlooking the peer pressure and body shaming that men, especially young men, face. Additionally, there was a time in the 60s & 70s when there was a lot more latitude for mens clothing in general--which included swimwear. It was ok to "do your own thing". Just look at the men in commercials or on popular TV series or actors. In many cases they've got washboard abs and built up pecs, square-cut jaws with a "bad boy" several days growth of beard. Or they're the artist/musician type with funky glasses (whether they need them or not) and a man bun or long hair. I'm glad I'm not a adolescent young man today who is trying to find his identity. It may not be the same pressure that women face, or marketed the same, but I think there is a lot of pressure on men for a "certain look" and to fall in line.

There is a double standard, but both male and female face body-shaming. Sometimes directly and often/mostly by media presentation. Many females are fearful that their bodies are not perfect and it can be a revelation that when they see other females on beaches, they realise that they are not alone with flabby bits and cellulite etc. The most liberating thing for many is that others are not perfect honed and toned and that they are enjoying themselves anyway.

And for boys, the felt need to be muscular too soon leads to steroid use/abuse.

Double standards is a reality, even if many people aren't aware of them or are in denial.
And contrary to popular belief, it’s not women who are penalized.

Women complain that they can’t wear what they want, that they’re criticized for wearing skirts that are too short, and so on. And they assert their right to dress however they want. Fundamentally, they’re right to assert their right to dress however they want. But let’s be honest: men have less freedom than women when it comes to dressing.

There are very few alternatives for men : just pants and shirts, especially at work. Even the colors are uniform: white shirt and black pants. Meanwhile, women can wear any color, pants, a dress, a miniskirt, or tight pants.

It’s the same with swimsuits: women can wear any kind of swimsuit, from very modest to a string thong bikini, without any issues.
Men, on the other hand, can at most wear full-coverage swim briefs. And even then, in some places, swim briefs are already considered too revealing, and swim trunks are recommended.

But I've noticed that men are also starting to assert their right to dress however they want.
Some men are realizing that their grandfathers had more freedom in how they dressed back in the 1960s.
Men are starting to rebel and assert their right to wear swim trunks while women walk around with their buttocks completely exposed.
They’re also asserting their right to wear mid-thigh shorts when women wear shorts shorter than the crease of their buttocks or miniskirts so short that their buttocks are visible.
Why are men starting to realize that they’re victims of a double standard when it comes to fashion? I don’t know...
I think there are many factors that might explain this:
- the ability to buy clothes that break away from traditional standards, and men just want to treat themselves?
- being fed up with hearing women complain when men have even less freedom? A bit like masculinism.
- Has discrimination reached such a level—with women in thongs everywhere at swimming pools and water parks, while men are asked to wear shorts—that it’s no longer possible to remain in denial?
- Are the younger generations daring to challenge the older ones?
- Are the younger generations more aware of gender equality?

Have you also noticed that more men are asserting their freedom to dress however they want?

From a recent article on men’s swimwear: “A Speedo? Well, technically that’s a brand name, but it’s pulled a “Band-Aid” (or a “Velcro”) and become shorthand for a whole category. In this particular case, that item is a low-slung brief that leaves very little to the imagination. It’s a look, for sure. And you may be able to carry it off, especially if you’re in a foreign country. But as a general rule? Avoid.” We just can see, to get away from the medias poor judgement.

Appears men’s wellness bodybuilding division competition from Brazil has alienated and upset people. Certain female fitness influencers Dana Lin Bailey replied it’s gross. Men wellness division although not sanctioned by Olympia or NPC. Many reject such feminine display by males in bodybuilding. Labeling it gay or too feminine. Yet certain females in bodybuilding take androgen hormones masculine features to hold muscle when competing. In essence female competitors are altering their female features to become more muscular and in turn masculine. Yet they find male @Sean Moraes on IG being gross display. Only because he wearing thongs openly displaying himself much like female influencers. Find this type of double standard sad. Yet Dana Bailey often was compared to being too masculine using androgenic substances to shape her physique. Talk about hypocrisy..

https://www.kulturistika.com/en/magazine/fitness-espresso/san-moraes-in-action-again-the-men-s-wellness-division-shocks-the-world Although Dana did comment on someone’s post about Brazilian competition. “it’s gross!!” https://www.instagram.com/danalinnbailey?igsh=bjZpOGVwbzUwb2Ni Goes to show you certain type of females haters can’t tolerate men posing in feminine manner. Showing off their glutes in a posing costume thong.

Through years of my experiences certain gals react towards me with that, “tsk” murmur once recognized. Finding my clothes are feminine. Spandex short shorts, racerback tank top, leggings, thong swimwear, tight jeans. Gals want to box their ideology he appears gross and wrong in wearing as a male.

For longer than couple decades recognize in the gym  this older running fit married mom late 50’s. We never speak to one another. Cognitive from her past expressions to husband about me, reactions, being upset, grossed out  or very least not appropriately clothed as a man with her taylored beliefs.
Wearing same brand  color tank she also owns. Attention may stray for moment distracted from training scan me over as noticing something familiar.
Got to admit she has evolved being very lean and fit with six pack abs. Wearing her red bra top and 6” spandex black shorts. Never found her attractive noticing cellulite along hamstrings with grey skin tone.
Overhearing conversations she may have from infatuated young male compliment her body transformations. She does appear humble and not arrogant even meek in personality.

Yet inner beliefs of what men should look like and wear. Fit mommy brings her adult son to the gym to look at how odd people appear. She finds it amusing at her sons reactions to others. Apple doesn’t fall to far from the tree. Same mindset on what man should wear or look like. Otherwise your someone best ignored.

rapid blue: you article was from ESQUIRE - "The do’s and don’ts of wearing a men’s swimsuit this summer". totally agree it reads much more of a fashion article than anything even close to true beach related activity. There is no mention of sand or UV rays. how boring, really sound like the author has not seen the sun in quite some time. there is life outside the cubicle!!! She sounds like she would be embarrassed by something as conservative as an AUSSIE BUM, how sad. - Live today, no promise of tomorrow!
