I heard of this location for nude beach/recreation a few years ago, but never actually been. It's a bit further than the beaches for me, but I'm thinking of checking it out. Anybody have any experiences or words of wisdom...?
Checked it out today. It was a hot Sunday afternoon, absolutely perfect weather. Here's my advice to anyone thinking of checking it out: Arrive early...! Parking is quite limited, and there was a police cruiser at the entrance monitoring things.
The textile area has grass, portable toilets, and BBQ areas for families. To the right is the trail that leads to the nude area. Be advised it's a trail, not a smooth flat path. Sandals won't cut it. About 15 mins in you arrive to where the nudist are. There's no soft sand, just a "New England" lake shoreline with several areas that had large rocks on top of which you can set up. ( Hence the name "Ledges" ).
I found a rock of my own, but eventually it filled in with other people, some that paddled up in kayaks. I found it a bit "crowded". With many of them knowing each other it was hard to relax while hearing them talk among themselves, but there was no room to spread out. It was most an older crowd ( 50s and up ) and mostly men.
Once I arrived in the parking lot, I lost cell service ( Verizon ) so no listening to spotify. Otherwise, standard hiking etiquette applies: No glass, carry out what you carry in, and some bug spray is probably handy to have.
