Osterman is a very democratic and tolerant beach. The gay and thong part is the south end. Hispanic women and kids also congregate there, and I think it is deliberate because they know most of the guys won't be interested nor hit up on them. But they are friendly and don't make you feel uncomfortable. My attitude is if they want to be there with their kids, they have to see my ass, too bad. The lifeguards do not care about thongs, just safety. Do not go farther out into the lake than their rowboat. I usually have worn a Joe Snyder bulge thong. Again, no one will make you feel uncomfortable, even if you are the only one in a thong.

There is a beach cam from the apartment building that looks like it is Bob Newhart's
http://www.mykpod.com/chicago.shtml

From Downtown, take the 147 bus. Do NOT take the "L". Walking along Bryn Mawr does not look too safe, there are few police on the north side of CTA (this is not NYC), and Boystown by the way has gotten very dangerous in terms of robberies and beatings since Rahm has slashed police headcount from their precinct by 27% over the last 3 years. The east-west 84-Petersen bus from Clark Street (where there is a motel and a White Castle) will also also get you there. Get off at Lake Shore Drive and that will avoid your walking along Bryn Mawr.

I was out there in my thong on Thursday when it was nice and hot. Got a little sunburned and the water was freezing, but other than that, no issues on one of the first nice beach days.  A few other thongs and g's. I was a little shy at first, but soon relaxed and laid out proudly.
I have to differ in terms of taking the El and walking along Bryn Mawr; I really don't think it's unsafe at all.  There might be a few vagrant types who occasionally hang out, but I've never had any worries, especially in the daytime.

Unfortunately, family commitments kept me away from the beach last week (and I really wanted to get there, too - dang!). Now it's cool and rainy again. Phooey.

I've never had any issues with walking along Bryn Mawr either.

I wanted to start off right away with some color so I have a base to work with
I wore a thong
In a few days the bum should be less red and more tan

This is Chicago, I can't wait for the nice weather to come to me

Wow! What wonderful weather! Warm, sunny, nice breeze, just enough clouds, that let the Sun do its thing. And none of the blowing sand that was everywhere on Monday.

I was there again with my Skinz M65. I know lots of folks here love thong tan lines, but I try to minimize them, and the M65 is great for that: undo both straps for front and back, leave one fastened to do the sides. I look to get the best all over base I can early, then I can mix it up wityh my other suits, some high cut, some low. I'm dying to try out the several sheer suits I got during the off season.

I figured, with the nice weather and a holiday weekend and all, that the beach would by crazy jammed with the party crowd, but was glad to be proven wrong. Lots of folks there, but nice and laid back. Aside from this reporter and the usual bunch behind the walls of their fortress, I saw a few other thongs on guys, but was very encouraged to see a lot more briefs and bikini suits than previously.

Did not see any topless or actual thongs on women, but there were a good number of Rios and Cheeky bottoms, as well as string and low rise bikinis -- Maybe we ARE winning the battle.

Are jock straps ever worn there, or would lifeguards object to the crack not being covered?

Re:The beaches of Chicago - Bryn Mawr - Hollywood - Kathy Osterman - Montrose etc.

Date Posted:05/25/2015 11:42:13Copy HTML

Good question. Last September, I got a massage, and the masseuse remarked on my tan; did I go to a salon? I said no, strictly sunshine. He asked where, and when I told him Osterman, he said how his girlfriend told him there were guys wearing jocks there; was that so? I have never seen that.

The only time I've been asked to cover up there was when I first started unhooking the straps of my M65, and had the center strap completely disengaged from my cheeks. I don't know how much I was showing, but since then, I keep the strap held between my cheeks, which also makes it easier to find them when I want to roll over. Haven't had any problems from the lifeguards since.

There's a few regulars there who sport some micro pouches with the twin strings (no center string), and they seem to be accepted by the lifeguards, although they do erect a windscreen around their area, like a privacy fence.

I think you would probably be OK with a jock, as long as you were decorous and didn't "put it in somebody's face" so to speak. But I would still bring a coverup, just in case.

Another beautiful day. Was there today, in my M65 again - got some good color on my sides, so I have a pretty good all-over base now.

I arrived mid-morning, and the by the early afternoon there was a pretty good crowd. A few other thongers; mostly square-cuts and briefs in evidence. Again, no women in thongs, but most of the bikinis I saw were not "moderate", so things ARE progressing, if slowly.

I had a small lunch at the beach restaurant, nachos and a margarita. Fairly typical concession stand quality, and the staff were good, so it was a nice enough experience.

It's been such a busy week for me with family stuff, but when I saw the forecast for today earlier this week, I made it a point to keep today clear for a "personal day". After a lousy winter and a mediocre spring, it's SO nice to be out in the sun again!

I'm sometimes able to grab 2 hours during the week for the beach. First year I started out in a thong and with four visits to the beach, seems only natural to wear them. There are others in thongs, not to mention speedos, which I will also wear this summer. For only being 6/5 in Chicago, should be a good beach year

We're boaters with a small cruiser slipped in New Buffalo, MI.  Does anyone know if it's permitted to anchor offshore from any of the thong and topless-friendly Chicago Beaches and wade in?  If the lake cooperates, it would be fun to make the crossing for some sun, skin, sweat, and sin this weekend!

On weekends, especially Sundays, there are usually a few boats that anchor just outside the marker buoys. This past Sunday, there was quite a bunch, including one really enormous one loaded with passengers. Most of the boaters seem to stay out on their boats, with little back and forth to the shore. I don't know how deep the water is out at the buoys, so I don't know if you can wade, or would have to swim in.

It was a sunny day today, so I hit the beach, but there was a stiff breeze out of the North, so everyone there pretty much hugged the ground; not much walking around. Fortunately, by the afternoon, the wind had diminished somewhat. The wind had blown a lot of water in, onto the shore, and there was pretty high surf, so swimming was restricted to the North end of the beach. There were only a couple of other thongs beside myself.

I wore my new Dubio Mini Pouch , http://www.dubiobikinis.com/proddetail.php?prod=302S in turquoise mesh. I was a little concerned when a group of young girl day-campers set up nearby, but most of them stayed up at the North end, where the lifeguards were. I have to wonder why the counselors park their campers at the "gay" end of the beach rather than the "family" section, but the kids seem to be oblivious to it all. I read the "Double standard" thread, and am so glad I don't encounter some of the BS others run into.

Some fine weather in town this week. After getting rained out on Sunday, I spent most of yesterday sunning in my Dubio Mini Pouch again. The young woman who sunbathes topless set up right next to me, which was nice; I finally got to chat with here a bit, she was quite friendly.  A few of the other regulars were nearby, so there was this little island of skimpiness.

Heard some discussion about my suit (and the others') from some of the people renting standup paddle boards as they walked to the water. Otherwise, the beach-goers in general pay thongs and strings little notice. Reading reports here from some other beaches really makes me appreciate having a place like this nearby.

I  was there in a thong  yesterday as well. Great day for sun
I usually have my eyes closed and fall in and out of naps when on the beach so I don't see too much
I never hear any comments one way or  another- which is perfect for me
I feel people are into their own thing and really don't pay any attention to what you are wearing
Not as many thongers as I would have thought but enough so no one stands out
and enough where more people might start wearing them

Just returned from Chicago. I was visiting family. My daughter said the dreaded words- bring a swimsuit. I had to go out and buy a swimsuit- all I wear are thongs and g-strings. Ended you going to a beach at Evanston. Cost $8 per person- nice beach but very small swimming area. I could see downtown and longed the entire time to be at hollywood beach. I had been plannng on it for weeks. I ended up taking my 19 year old daughter with me, she moved in recently- hasn't lived with me since she was 4. I really love my daughter and ended up having a good time. BTW- since she moved in - I no longer can walk around nude or sit on my front porch at night in a g string.

I was there yesterday and today. Very warm, brilliant Sun, and low humidity made things delightful . . . except for the wind. Yesterday was quite breezy, and today more so. You could see clouds of sand sweeping down the length of the beach. I had to wrap a bandana around the windward side of my head to keep the sand out of my ear and nose.

Question: If it's ninety degrees F, is it still wind chill?

Saturday was another nice but breezy day; the wind picked up a bit later on, but nothing like the Haboob on Friday. Very windy again today, with a chance of thunderstorms later, so I'll probably take a pass. Toady (Sunday) is the crazy noisy party day I don't care for, anyway.

I've noticed lately that there seems to be some more mainstream type beach-goers who don't turn and walk north when they see all the gay men. I guess the word is out that this is one of the nicest beaches in the city (and no little kids running all over) (usually).

Apart from the regulars, most men were wearing tight swim trunks, but still, far too may board shorts. I still haven't seen any women in thongs, but a lot more side-tie string bikinis and Rio suits. Saw at least one topless woman (not the usual one).

Forecast is for continued sunshine and less wind into the week, which sound good to me! Water temperature is delightful too.

A beautiful weekend. A real scorcher away from the beach, but closer to the Lake, hot but pleasant. A nice breeze both days, but no blowing sand (Hooray!). Lake water was the best I've ever seen it - warm, clear, minimal waves, itty-bitty fisheys swimming around.

This weekend was the annual Air and Water Show, and we got to see some of the Navy Blue Angels close up. I think they use physical landmarks for some of their turnarounds, and Saturday, they seemed to be using Osterman (Sunday, it seemed to be Foster).

Saturday, I saw quite a few more thongers than just the regulars, but not on Sunday. Saw several very skimpy Rio suits on some very fit women, but still no female thongers though.

Saturday, I wore my Dubio Excalibur, and Sunday, my SWIC teardrop string. Both days, I decided to walk around a lot, rather than just laying out, to try to even out my tan a bit. Got a little attention, but not much. One woman happened to glance up from her phone as I was passing by, and let out a "WHOA!", but, all in all, I was pleased to see that there were Zero issues with my choice of swimwear.

After the horrible Winter we had, the meh Spring, and the way Summer took weeks to get it in gear, I am milking the Sunshine for all it's worth.

Re:The beaches of Chicago - Bryn Mawr - Hollywood - Kathy Osterman - Montrose etc.

Would love to see some Wicked Weasels at the beach!

Was at the beach a few times during the week, but weather and personal errands limited my time. Today (Saturday), though, was a very nice day: Warm but not hot, a mild breeze without being windy, and lots of hotties of both sexes.

Saw one guy with a one-sided thong, and chatted with him about how well it stayed up. He assured me he had no trouble with that. He said it was from Slick It Up, which looks to be sort of a fetish wear place, but they do have some more mainstream stuff. He later swapped it for a sling type thong, which I had never seen one of in person, and it looked a lot better than the pictures I've seen on the Internet. It probably helped that he had a very slender build. We got to talking about swim suits, and I mentioned how I had several sheer suits that I was reluctant to wear to the beach, especially on Weekends, and he told me, "Oh, you should!" Hmmm, maybe I will . . .

I was wearing my blue mesh SWIC  teardrop string, [ http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mens-G-String-Thong-Extreme-Micro-Tear-Drop-Back-Custom-Size-Sheer-blue-clouds-/261498332884?var=&hash=item82792bb33d ] which got several compliments [Blush]. Best was from a young lady in a skimpy Rio cut suit, who I had been eyeing all afternoon. Our paths crossed as we were both strolling around, and she gave me a thumbs up. I told her I liked her suit, and she replied, "MY suit!? I like YOUR suit!". LOTS of Rios and Cheeky suits on the ladies, and a continuation of the increase of thongs on the men.

Two downsides, though: first, a group near me was joined by a guy who brought his large dog to the beach - until I finked him out to the lifeguard. Second was more serious: After the Air and Water Show, the trash and recycling bins were overflowing with glass bottles (which also are not allowed), and apparently, some got crushed when they groomed the beach. I was finding shards of broken glass all week. Today, I found the jagged remains of a bottle of Miller Genuine Draft right at the foot of my towel when I re-positioned it when the angle of the Sun had changed. People! Cans and plastic, please. Of course, I'm sure that no one on this board would do the glass thing :-)

Not realyl a downside, but after the water being warm as bathwater last week, it has cooled of a lot. Just about no one today ventured in past knee deep. Then, I saw a young  couple count down from three, charged into the lake, and belly flop into the water. I told them they were very brave, and shivering, she replied, "No, we're very stupid!" But, the water is still very clear; I have not observed any problem with algae as in past years

Sunday was a pretty good day at the beach for a short run.  I had a couple hours so I ran out to the beach and set up north of the pier. Was a crowded day. I saw a couple thongs on girls in addition to myself. Many itsy's or rios. I was wearing my red cover male enhanced pouch. I saw a couple girls look my way with several stares. One young pretty girl just let looking and smiling. After I went into the water  and came back out she and her group were leaving. She came up and wanted to take a picture with me so I agreed. Re:The beaches of Chicago - Bryn Mawr - Hollywood - Kathy Osterman - Montrose etc.

Date Posted:09/04/2015 02:42:06Copy HTML

I've made it to Osterman a few times lately, usually wearing a bulge-style suit.  I've seen quite a few guys in thongs, and several are up and walking around and not just laying out.  I've seen very skimpy g-strings to fairly large thongs, although most guys are in speedos or square cuts.  Variations from very very loose up front to very squashed.  My last trip I saw one female in what I'd probably call a large thong, it was smaller than a rio but larger than all the guy's thongs.  Otherwise, not many of the ladies in smaller than a moderate rio. As others have said, mostly guys on the south end of the beach and familes on the north end.  I usually end up somewhere towards the middle.
I tend to come just to lay in the sun and relax for an hour or so in the afternoon during my lunch break, but I've also ventured here once or twice on the weekend.  It is busier on the weekend, which just means setting up further from the water.  Either time you're going to be pretty close to other beach goers.  In all my visits I've essentially been left alone.  People will look at you, sometimes walk by you closer than they need to, and sometimes might stare a bit longer than might make you comfortable but it isn't all that unexpected.  Perhaps people leave me alone more if they see my wedding band?
I often see people gathering here to meet up with friends.  So expect that pair or group of people setup near you might grow as the day goes on.
The negatives that I've experienced: occasionally someone will smoke, which given how close everyone is to each other seems rather rude to me.  And the flies, the last time I went out the flies were terrible.  They seemed to really like me more than other people.  Earlier in the summer not a problem. Next time I'm bringing some bug spray too!  For once I was glad for someone smoking, it temporarily kept the flies away.  And lastly, blowing sand.  Usually not a big deal, but sometimes it can be bad.

Re:The beaches of Chicago - Bryn Mawr - Hollywood - Kathy Osterman - Montrose etc.

Yes, the sand. For some reason, it has been very windy this summer, even for the "Windy City". I was out yesterday, making the most of the remaining warm sunny days, and had to deal with wind and flies, alternately. A good coating of repellent helped a lot with the latter, so things were bearable.

The big problem is the broken glass. Several other beach goers an myself have picked up what we can. What is disturbing is that it's not just broken bottles. There is a lot of what is apparently automotive windshield glass, particularly around the volleyball nets. I also found what looks like fragments of light bulbs. It sure looks to be deliberate vandalism, as the bottle fragments are scattered around a wide area, not just in one spot.

It doesn't help that the Chicago Park District does a pretty slipshod job of grooming the beach, and I'm not sure if they even do it after Labor Day. The city had better get it cleaned up or some little kid is going to get injured.

Gorgeous weather this week! Sunny, temps in the lower 70s F. The rain from Friday night's storm has dampened the sand enough so that it doesn't blow around in the pleasant breeze, and the bugs have taken a hike. I sent a message to the Park District about the broken glass, and it looks like they've groomed the beach, even though it's officially closed for the season.

Weather forecast is for more of the same into next week. I feel blessed!

Forecast for the first week of November is Indian Summer - Sunny and around 70F. Unfortunately, even at high Noon, the Sun is only at the altitude it gets in late afternoon during mid-summer, and the days are getting shorter. But, still . . . let's see how the wind is . . .

March in Chicago is still too cold to venture to the beach but it is getting closer to thong days
This winter was an easy one but winter always seems to last a life time
Fridays and Sundays are usually the days I'm able to get to the beach
This year I plan to get an early start and get a descent tan before Memorial Day

I've been fake-baking, so I already have a good base thongtan.
