Thats brief for the local pool . brief but sexy . I wear my Mykonos to the beach  . Do you have the white with black trim ? I cant find the Zorba any more . I think any tanga side is pretty noticeable for a guy . I had a nice Zacros for the beach too in blue . Any other british sources ? I was wondering the other day where bodybuilders get their posing briefs ? any ideas anyone ?

Mine is gold with mahogany surround. I think Zorba now called Corinth.  I wear a green Trident as mainstream. If cover up really required a Rodas also in green. Don't own anything with more cover. I have worn string styles now for many years. On the beach either Osiris or Bandol

I have worn a Rodas at the local indoor pool - but even when I have requested a medium rather than small (I am about 30-32 inch waist), they sit very low front and back, and are probably a bit too skimpy for a family pool, so I usually wear a Speedo with about 2 inch sides, or a Hom micro, which provide a little more coverage. Ayt the gym, I have worn the Rodas and Trident in the sauna - I like the Trident, and usually resort to this deign when abroad, and in situations where a thong  would feel inappropriate.  I recently replaced my fairly old green and navy Tridents, and the new ones had slightly thicker side straps, a slightly fuller seat, but are very low at the front (need to shaev to wear them). This can be a problem with intersparta - their designs do tend to fluctuate a bit from year to year regarding things like the side straps and degree of coverage.  I have bought some of the Bandol designs over the years- i have a real favorite black one that fits beautifully- it has really thin side straps, and the pouch is really the bare minimum to provide coverage. Subsequent Bandols I bouigyht (same size0 had thciker straps and a slightly larger pouch.

At the outdoor pool in Cambridge, when I lived there a few years back, I wore Rodas or Trident routinely, and often slipped into a mykonos or 'kra' design (virtually a thong) for sunbathing  - I think I could get away with less coverage in tha situaiton, particularly as i saw females sunbathing topless, and even the occasional female thong at the outdoor pool

I've been wearing a Hom Ressac thong swimsuit at my local public swimming pool regularly for the last 7 months and so far so good. I've usually gone first thing in the morning or during my lunch-break when there are only serious swimmers there, but during the summer holidays it wasn't a problem either. I get straight in the pool and straight out afterwards. People only notice what I'm wearing they see me in the changing rooms.

I think as long as it's fairly conservative, wearing a thong at a public pool is accepted by most people. Certainly no-one has bothered me about it. If anyone is wondering about their pool, I'd say go for it, as long as the coverage is not too minimal.

Lucky you - I have not had the same experience at public pools. Rather I have been asked not to wear a thong.

I have just received my muscleskins order which includes a Black string and blue rio briefs. These have 1/4" sides that  expose a lot of flesh. This is made even more extreme by their stretch that  takes the rio from 5" to 10 "  each side when worn. The string has a fuller back. with sides that increase from 3" to 6" when worn. I consider the rio back (8" wide) as a half back. - though some reckon 6" is more a half back. Either of these muscleskins  would be daring for a UK public - though I see gsj wears a 6" rear to local pool..  I plan to try them out at a hotel pool soon if I get the courage to.

sheer1delight - let us know how you get on.  Regarding "courage" I look at it on the basis that's what I wear & just get on with it.  I get changed, do my lengths, shower & get dressed.  No flaunting or any other behaviour that would cause attention.  Good luck.

Re:Thonging at UK swimming pools

I was working in London for a couple of days and alas my hotel didn't have a pool. I did learn of an open air pool at Bushey Park. As it was on my way to the airport bus stop I called there. It is apparently one of three in London. I didn't know what to expect but the advert said it was open 365 days ayear. I called in late afternoon. As I was getting changed I saw a guy putting on a wet suit.. I said to him that it looked as if the water was going to be freezing if that was what he was wearing to the pool. He assured me that it was warm but occasionally there was a cool breeze. So there  he was  dressed toe to neck in a wet suit while I stood in my blue muscleskins string rio back. Anyway I followed him out shortly, carrying just my towel. It wasn't too far to the pool. I sat on the edge and eased myself in. The water was surprisingly arm. The pool and area was not very crowded. A middle aged woman at the poolside who was teaching some 11-12 year olds to swim lengths just glanced at me . She probably got an eye ful of my rear as I passed by though it was dusk and the place was now lit up but not very brightly. I stayed for half an hour doing lengths. A few guys were in swimming shorts and one in a small pair of  bikini "trunks". After half an hour I then climbed up the pool steps grabbed my towel and headed for the changing rooms. Again the middle aged woman and the kids who were talking to her at the pool edge gave me a long look. I'm not too sure how many others clocked the view - not that i was flaunting it. In the changing rooms the guy in the wet suit also appeared and asked me if I had enjoyed the swim and venue. A couple of other guys in the changing room glanced at my attire but made no comment. It was an enjoyable experience though the changing room and showers had seen better days. I have never worn anything as brief  before in public. The rio sides are very fine and long In hindsight the rio was maybe just too brief and perhaps the fuller string may have been more suitable with its shorter string sides.

Aghhh! What has happened to this site. Seems we are missing some of the latest entries.

No doubt we will all get used to it in the end.

Anyway I decided to take the plunge and wore my black muscleskins string to the local swimming pool. This has a bigger back than the rio. It was great to wear with its incredibly thin sides. No adverse reaction from attendants or other swimmers. If I wear this for a while I might graduate to the rio back!

So does anyone want to set a date? I've been wearing a thong at my local david lloyds gym. The outdoor pool is v cold and often empty, so i take my shorts off outside and swim in just a thong. If someone else comes out i usually bottle it and put shorts back on though!Would feel a bit more confident if i saw other people wearing them then i'd be more likely to do it!

Over the weekend Saterday and Sunday  I visited Highgate mens swimming pond in North London, on Saterday I swam wearing a half back Kiniki Brazil,  brief speedo styles being the normal wear with other swimmers, so on Sunday I thought I chance a swim in a Homswim brief with a thong back, I recived no adverse comments  from the Life guard on duty, or other swimmers, so I would suggest its thong friendly, I must admit I have seen other thongers there in past summers, perhaps us thongers should use it more often.

I'm still swimming at my local pool most mornings wearing a Hom swim thong. There do seem to be less people in the pool these days,  only the serious swimmers. I visited three other pools during the break and in the last one after swimming for an hour I was told that the staff 'had an issue' with my swimwear. So this confirmed for me comments on this site about the lack of acceptance for wearing thongs in a public pool. Although the staff member was very polite I felt terrible being 'told off' and I didn't go swimming again anywhere for a week! It's made me more nervous even at my local pool but fortunately no-one there has 'had an issue' (yet). I think the problem with that one pool was that it was a long walk from the changing rooms, past mothers with toddlers, so I was "strutting my stuff". So my advice to would-be thongers is to only thong in public swimming pools where the changing rooms are close to the water! Don't "strutt your stuff"!

I reckon a rio bottom or half back is probably about as far as a male wearer  can go without coming to the attention of staff. I wonder though if female wearers would also be advised about the brevity of their bottom wear. Unfortunately at my local pools I have seen no female thong wearers only a few with string bottoms of full,3/4 and one rio size!

I will be visiting London in early June and plan to go to Hampton Outdoor pool.
I was there last November in late afternoon when it was starting to get dark. At that  time I wore a Muscleskins String Rio Back. it turned a few heads especially that of an older female instructor who did a double take. I just walked to and from the pool without strutting about and did my lengths.

It was starting to get cold but once in the water was OK. However the pool had few swimmers in it.

How busy is it likely to be in early June and do you think a blue wet look string rio would be aaceptable again as at  that time of year it would be clearly visible or would I have to go for something bigger such as a string V back or bigger.

Does anyone have experience here at this pool with skimpy gear?

regards

yes i was there last summer. I was with a few friends, and i saw one lady (prob in late 30s) wearing a thong. She was on her own and kept to herself, no one said anything and it was generally accepted. The pool was absolutely rammed, was a hot day and all the kids were off school!

When is anyone going to do any thonging in a north london pool??
johnbar5251 #124

Re:Thonging at UK swimming pools

Date Posted:04/04/2008 08:48:39Copy HTML

The lady you saw was lucky to get away with wearing a thong at Hampton. I have seen people told to cover up. I can only assume that it was so busy at the time that the attendants had too much else to keep their eyes on to be bothered with her. I presume she did not walk about the pool area with just a thong on and just sunbathed on the grassy area. I am certain that anyone in a thong getting in or out of the pool would have been asked to cover up.

Sorry to report but Hampton pool in a no-go area for thongs.

As ever London, despite this being the 21st century and being it one one of the most cosmopolitain citie sin the word is still a void as far as thonging goes.

Followup from previous post about Hampton Pool.

On a very hot sunday afternoon there were actually 2 thongs on show. One was worn discretely just when sunbathing on the grass. The other was rather more on show, about the pool, going to get ice-cream etc. It was a very busy day for the lifeguards so I guess a couple of thongs were the least of their "problems".

That's quite encouraging Johnbar, but a bit more detail would be great so that we can work out if it's a sign of improvements in acceptance this summer or just a one off...I presume they were both female (....or we're really doing well!!).How old, what kind of thong, who were they with, how did people react, etc.?Just gives us some idea of how it's looking.
Thanks and keep us updated

Matching Thongs,

Both female. I would think foreign students. One seemed Spanish and was with cpl of elder ladies (?mother + friend). The other sounded E.European and was with some similar aged friends (m/f). No one took any notice of either while in and about the pool/cafe or sunning on the grass.

Re:Thonging at UK swimming pools

Here's my opinion on thongs/bikinis in uk pools. Women wear bikinis in uk pools without any problems, so guys can do the same. There's no way the pool management coould discriminate against the guys, as they would fall foul of the discrimination acts. Ditto with a thong, if they allowed girls to do it, they'd have to allow the guys as well. As far as I'm concerned, any 'speedo' style swim bikini brief is perfectly acceptable, as long as the intention is for it not to be a thong, however brief the back is. I've regularly swum in my JS Capri swim bikini, which is about as brief as you can get before it becomes a thong. I've never had any problems with other pool users of staff. I have swum with a thong style, and again didn't have a problem, although it was a fairly quite time in the pool. What I have found though, is that much briefer swimwear, even down to a g-string, seems to be acceptable in health suits using the sauna and steam rooms. It seems as if the people who use these accept that a g-string is a very pratical thing to wear for such use. I've managed to convert a few cossie users!!!

Re:Thonging at UK swimming pools

Date Posted:06/11/2008 12:40:17Copy HTML

Ukessexbob, just one point of curiosity:  are the saunas and steam rooms where you wear a g-string coed?  If so, that's quite daring, though I agree perfectly decent.  If not coed, why bother with anything?  At my health club, the whirlpool is coed, so I often wear my bikinis (thongs not allowed), but the saunas and steam rooms, off the shower rooms, are not, so I, and a few others, use them nude.  No problems at all, same sex nudity is part of the American way, what with high school gym class, the army, etc.
ukessexbob #132

Re:Thonging at UK swimming pools

Date Posted:06/11/2008 04:16:42Copy HTML

Not sure what coed means, but I'm guessing you mean guys and girls in together. Most UK saunas are mixed, nearly all require the wearing of swimwear, unlike the continent, where they sensibly allow you to go nude, boys and girls together. I've worn thongs and g-strings on many occasions, and it's never been a problem. Where as in the pool, you nearly always have staff around for safety reasons, they very rarely wander into the spa area, so there's not much chance of then seeing you, and if they do, you are usualy in the sauna, steamroom or jacuzzi, so they don't really get a good view of what you are wearing, and others users seem quite tolerant, thus I've never had a problem

Wish I were there to join you.  We always stay at a B&B in Hampstead Garden City when in London, right across the street from the heath.  On our last trip last year, I checked out the pool.  Looked pretty good, though it was late in the day and I didn't stop to swim.  Some folks were sunning in the fields nearby, overlooking the pond, in thongs and skivvies.  Changed into their street clothes right out in the open.  Things are more casual in Europe than in the States, I guess.  I noticed the nude sunning area off the change room.  Segregated by sex, of course, not like the saunas I encountered in Greece, where nobody batted an eye as we all enjoyed the heat in our all-togethers.  Hope the weather cooperates and you all get to enjoy.

I've decided to ask before I did it, so I e-mailed Aqua Springs in Colchester before turning up and wearing a thong. For your information Aqua Springs is a large, local authority owned and run Spa, with all the usual things, Sauna, Steamroom, Jacuzzi, etc. The reply I received from the management was 'To avoid any discomfort or embarrassment for all customers, we request that conventional swimwear rather than thong style costumes are worn.' Now, considering that probably 99% of the women that go there have worn a thong, which means 99% of the guys have seen one, and that you see plenty of them when on the beach for your your holidays, it does seem incredulous that the management offer the 'excuse' that other users would suffer 'discomfort or embarrasment' seeing someone else in a thong. Really !, after, wearing the dam things themselves? More likely management not having the courage to allow people to do their own thing, and retreating behind the excuse that they have to 'think of other users'.

The lifeguard is only an employee, ask him to show you the rules, ask to speak with the manager. If someone says yes, and someone else says no, seems as if they are guessing, or making it up on the spot. Whenever you ask something like this on the phone, get the persons name you spoke to.

I haven't been this year, but I regularly swim at Victoria Swimming Baths in Portsmouth in a thong. I did ask first, and the receptionist was very friendly and sensible about it. I haven't exactly posed, nor do I wear one of my briefer swim thongs/strings, but I haven't had any trouble outside of the odd kid making rude comments. But one gets that on the Eastney nudist beach - our equivalent of the religious police, I guess.

Not to sure about the mixed pond at Hampstead, I thought only the Mens and Womens ponds were still open, but I dont live local anymore, so have lost track of the situation ?  ( there is a web site for Highgate Ponds) but if you mean the Lido at Parliment Hill Fields, I would suggest its worth trying, I have swam there on manyl occasions in a half back Kiniki Brazil, infact  I dont recal seeing a swimmer in shorts at all, skimmpy speedo wear was the norm.
I was going  to thong in a Hom or Kiniki St Tropez on my next visit,  and didnt expect problems, but I think a string sidded T back might be pushing your luck.

Well today i did it, i went for a visit to the mens pond at hampstead heath. It's something i've wanted to do for a while but have put it off. I've always been a bit concerned it'll be full of gay men and perverts (you hear stories about hampstead heath etc!). But i was surprised when i got there. It literally is a normal outdoor lake with changing rooms and people swimming as per usual!
The weather today has been awful, so it wasn't particularly busy although there were about 6 or 7 men there. In the changing room i was still a bit cautious about wearing a thong in public so thought i'd go out first and see what it's all like. There were a couple of lifeguards in the hut but they were talking amongst themselves. I was wearing a black HOM swim thong underneath cycling shorts. The rain was coming down hard but it was still quite warm. After having a quick look round i got in the water and started swimming. After a few minutes i took the cycling shorts off and tied them to the jetty, and went for a swim just wearing a thong.

After a bit of swimming i decided it was slightly too cold on a day like today so i decided to get out. I took the cycling shorts off the jetty but didnt put them back on. I got out of the lake in just the thong, holding my shorts and goggles. Walked along the whole jetty past a couple of people and the lifeguards and into the changing room.

There weren't any lockers or anywhere to put my stuff, I was a bit wary of leaving it ungaurded in the changing rooms. Would hate to have all my stuff knicked and left in hampstead in only a thong!

Saying that, next time i hope to have the confidence to wear a thong for the whole experience, leave the cycling shorts at home. Fun evening though!
