 Napoleon 44. I'm not the most daring in public, but I have worn a tanga suit at my local pool a couple of times, but I have never seen a man or woman wearing a thong back suit in any UK indoor pool. I've seen unintentional  (or not!) wedges and I've no doubt they are seen in other pools on women mainly, but I've yet to witness one.

 I have never seen a guy in a uk pool in anything less than a speedo , I don’t personally think a thong is really appropriate there . In a sauna yes maybe . Half backs and tangas would be nice to see . I know some guys get down to much less according to their posts but certainly where I have been I think there would be an issue . Hotel pools are probably a different issue not being council run and of course you are crossed by their palms with silver so they are likely to be more tolerant . I am joining a hotel club soon and see what style I feel I can get down to and be comfortable (ish) with . I think it’s likely to be a tanga 3/4 seat Or a 1.5 cm bikini brief

From personal experience and observation, I tend to agree with Peterko64uk and Napoleon44.  In any municipal pool or even health club pool I have never worn and have never seen any man wear less than a full back speedo.  Sometimes they might only be a 1"-1.5" side but that's about the skimpiest I've seen.  On the other hand, I spent a week in a smart hotel in the UK that had a nice spa which was quite small but well equipped with pool, sauna, steamroom and I did wear a rio-style back first time just to get a feel for the place and later a thong.  It was a quiet place and not very busy but a few men and women were coming and going and nobody reacted in any way - probably that stiff upper lip English thing about pretending not to notice:-)

 I guess I am a rarity in wearing less than a speedo. Not often though because when I swim I do it for fitness. Get in, do several laps and out and I want swim briefs that will last in chlorinated pools and my smaller coverage ones aren't as enduring so I leave them at home. I don't have a problem with smaller coverage and although the life guards have had second looks on the rare occasions they come out, I've never been challenged.

We must ask ourselves why we think they aren't acceptable at a public pool? After all, even a thong is still swimwear that conceals your genitalia and everybody has buttocks; they're basically a set of large muscles. If someone says they're sexual and a turn on, that's just an opinion. For me, the face is the biggest turn on, but we don't expect people to cover the face in most cultures.

Having said I hadn't seen anybody wearing a thong at a UK municipal pool, I now have to report an update. Yesterday I saw a teenager at my local pool wearing a white and therefore see-through swimming costume with basically a thong back. She was no looker to be honest, but she was totally comfortable and confident and that was admirable.

A few days before I saw another teenager in a flesh coloured bikini with a scrunch bottom back. She looked totally naked from a distance and was clearly enjoying the attention. She rocked the look and had a great figure. Maybe things are slowly changing after all?

 It is almost impossible to read the web page of a UK news paper without a sidebar full of paparazzi pictures showing celebrity women wearing thongs. This has got to normalize thongs on women - done - and now normalizing thong swimsuits for girls and women.
For boys it is a different story.

@JM Runs
Just being able to buy thing bikinis at a regular store is probably the biggest hurdle for normalized behaviour. A lifestyle brand released a limited edition thing bikini this summer in Australia and didn't make a huge fuss over it but my the time I found out about it (less than a week later), I couldn't get them and they were sold out.

Similarly my hubby told me about Aussiebum releasing a nude and black thong in the skin material this weekend and when I looked to get him some, most of the sizes were sold out. Whilst I do think there is some pent up demand on the women's side, the speed in which that style was sold out on the men's side must give the retailer a bit of a signal on whether they are able to move the product.

Similarly with some of the micro brands, I saw more than a few WWs over the weekend but they were the fuller styles in Matt lycra. I am just happy when I see people wearing the brands I love. They all had the physique for them

Love Bren

The purpose of this forum is to, amongst other things, to promote the wearing of thongs. The ‘others don’t wear them, so I won’t’ isn’t the way. We need people to wear thongs wherever swimwear is worn to get the acceptance. Incidentally, if you watch some of the ladies diving, Syncroswimming, and water polo, it’s almost become normal for their swimwear to become thong style. And that gets broadcast around the world. I’ve worn thongs in public pools, and never been approached about them. I think if you get in the pool, do your swimming stuff, get out and changed, without drawing attention to yourself, it seems to work out ok.<!--[if gte mso 9]> Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0cm 5.4pt 0cm 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0cm; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;}

 Hi Bren,yes you are right, Aussiebum released a thong underwear, I'm surprised they didn't do it earlier,  but it's a bit dear I believe,  AUD 32 for a thong underwear.... for that price I could probably buy a Muscleskins poser for the beach.   But it's a good start!
I also saw that Aussiebum launched a new line Pro Fit leggings for men;   not very expensive in the seventysh range (Aussie dollar),   I was wondering if anyone has tried this product;   I am quite happy with all my purchases from Aussiebum,  but unlike Skins (where I can match top and bottom), Aussiebum Pro Fit line only includes bottoms..    And they are clearly 'leggings'  not compression pants;  therefore they wouldn't provide the same compression effect as an expensive Skins.   I might try one,  I would have to wear it with a plain t-shirt though.
(sorry to the moderator,  my post has nothing to do with the topic , please feel free to relocate it where it belongs)

 I am more cautious in UK certainly avoiding municipal pools.  Overseas we seem to find much more tolerance even if the locals do not do the same.I have not experienced any problems in hotel pools even in UK but I don't make it obvious that I am wearing a thong even if it is a T back. The best way is just to do what you feel comfortable with and don't ask permission.  I hope that more people will do the same. Mike

 UK has had a long period of sunny and very warm weather recently. This has brought out the thongs at HAMPTON OPEN AIR POOL in good numbers. Plenty of things on show recently, with maybe 10+ or so at a time. Also loads of cheeky costumes pulled up to be effectively a thong. Mostly bikinis but also seen a few one piece thongs. These one pieces seem even less coverage as they seem to be so high cut. As yet no actual g-strings seen. Seems to be mainly youngsters who are school/college age. All very continental and like the same sort of venue in France or Germany or Eastern Europe. No covering up and girls happy to walk about, stand and chat, go to cafe etc with butts fully on show. All loving the looks I am sure.

 I was on a girls trip to Dundee in Scotland the other week. We stayed a the Apex hotel and Spa. Lovely pool, wooden tubs, steam room and sauna. I wore a thong bikini on the first day and a couple of others wore one piece cheeky swimsuits.  No problems.

Sounds fun, what did your friends say? And do you think that hotel would be suitable for guys to thong? Regarding Johnbar's comments on Hampton Pool, I agree the thong is definitely back in the U.K.! I've been to Guildford lido a few times this summer and lots of thongs on show. I've also spotted a couple at my local hotel pool. It's clearly a new trend and I think very much linked to Love Island!
