Date Posted:04/28/2004 08:20:01Copy HTML Hi, I'm going to Hawaii in a couple weeks. This would be my first time, so I'm really excited, I will spend most of time in Maui, but will drop by Oahu, and possible other islands too.I've thonged in California, Floria. Looking at the messages, it seems that I can thong in most places of Hawaii. However, I'm a bit of shy girl, I'd like to blend in with thongers, especially thonging girls, I don't want to stand out. So I'd like to ask where are the beaches with most thongers in Maui and Oahu, and possibly other islands? I prefer not to go to gay beaches, lesbian ones are okay, but tell me them anyway in case these are all I can get. Thanks a bunch.Gnib

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:04/30/2004 09:37:30Copy HTML Hi Gnib, there are so many beaches on Maui, so it is really difficult to say where you can and can't go in a thong. However, I thonged or saw women in thongs at the following beaches/snorkel sites: 1. Kapalua beach just north of Lahaina - supposedly the best beach in America. The north end is for the resort folks, IIRC. I saw two women in thongs while snorkeling near this end. I had on my dork shorts at the time... 2. I snorkeled in a thong at Mokule'ia Bay (aka Slaughterhouse Beach) the furthest northern Natural Area Reserve. This beach is very rocky, a short trip to the water and is therefore less populated. People of all ages didn't mind seeing me in a thong; this was on a less busy weekday. On the way back to the car, some locals saw me walking on the side of the road and must have thought I was female (I had on only my thong and a towel over my back). They honked their horn repeatedly as they approached, but once they passed and realized I was male, they stopped honking and gave me the thumbs down sign or flipped me off. I just gave them the 'Hang Loose' sign. 3. South of Mokule'ia Bay is Honolua Bay. This beach is much wider and longer than Mokule'ia. I think it was me and one other lady that wore thongs there, but no one seemed to mind or stare. Very good snorkeling here too. Again, I was here on a weekday, so it wasn't that busy. 4. If you make it to Hana for more than a day, the Red Sand beach (aka Kaihalulu) is clothes-optional. I wasn't able to stay for more than a few minutes, as we had to go back to Lahaina that night. I saw a few nudists, but no one in thongs. I suspect either mode of (un)dress would be accepted. 5. South of Wailea, you can always go to the Big Beach (aka Makena or Oneloa). I choose to spend the afternoon at Little Beach, just north of Big Beach. Little Beach is a nude beach. Supposedly the northern end is for male homosexuals, but I found mixed couples in various states of undress throughout its entire length. I thonged and body surfed here. I probably stuck out like a sore thumb, as practically all the guys were nude and many women were topless. There was one older guy there in a thong, too. Coming back from Little Beach, I passed a couple (male and female) on the north end of Big Beach, both were sporting matching black thongs. Very few people around at that time of day (about 3:00 p.m.) on a Sunday. 6. I also snorkeled in a thong at the Ahihi Kina'u Natural Area Preserve, about 2 miles (?) south of Makena. Further south of the easy access beach is a black sand beach that was practically deserted the day I was there. The water was much calmer here, but getting to the tiny bay is a little more challenging, as you must navigate about 100 yards of lava rock to get to the beach. I think wherever you go on Maui, as a woman in a thong, no one will care. I rarely got more than a slight glance, with the exception of the locals as described above. HTH |

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:05/04/2004 07:02:00Copy HTML Hi HTH,
Thank you very much for the reply, the information you provide would be very valuable to me. You didn't see flocks of thong girls? How about Oahu and Big Island? Are there more thonging girls on beaches there? Are there thongers on nude or "clothes optional" beaches? I've never thonged alone before, I've only done it among thonging girls, like on a couple of California beaches, and also many times in Las Vegas pools where I felt quite natural in thongs, so I may not feel very comfortable thonging alone on a beach, although I know nobody would care much actually. Anyway, I just want to blend in a thong crowd. Thanks a lot, nonetheless, I'd really appreciate it if you or anyone could provide more information/experience. Happy thonging... Gnib |

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:05/05/2004 06:05:48Copy HTML I'm a long-time reader but your post finally prompted me to join this forum!
The reason is I live in Hawaii and just returned last week from Maui. Although the previous reply mentioned some good secluded beaches, sometimes (especially for a woman) you feel more comfortable where there are other people around. In general in Hawaii, women tend to be hassled less by the locals at the hotel beaches rather than at more isolated spots. For example, Big Beach (Makena) on Maui is one of my favorite beaches but there are no hotels and no lifeguards, so it is sometimes a hangout for horny local males. I saw several women "thonging" unmolested at Kaanapali beach in West Maui and at Kamaole I, II, and Wailea beaches in South Maui. As I recall from past visits and past posts I have read here, DeRussy and Kaimana aka San Souci) beaches near Waikiki on Oahu are favorite spots. On the Big Island where I live, good spots are at Hapuna and Anaehoomalu beaches on the west side of the island. Maybe I'll see you there! |

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:05/07/2004 01:22:52Copy HTML Hi golisch,
Thank you very much for your reply, it would be very useful to me. Are you a girl? Sorry to ask, but I'd like to hang out with thonging girls, :-). I will be in Maui for a week, and will probably go to Big Island, if I do, it's either on May 21 or 22. If I go, I will go to Hapuna, since it sounds fairly popular, and I will wear either navy or pink bikinis, may be thongs, :-). You can look for me. Again, thanks for the info. Any more suggestion or experience? from anyone? Happy thonging. Gnib |

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:11/14/2004 03:21:09Copy HTML I had two days in Maui; the first day I went to Hana and visited the Red beach and the second day I went to Little Beach. Little Beach is much easier to get to; there is a parking lot at Big Beach (a textile beach) but go to the beach and make a right to the end of Big Beach; then cross over the rocky outcrop and you are on Little Beach. The day I went, there were about 50 people; most of them nude. It is a nice white beach and the crowd was friendly. I hope to go again if I had the chance.

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:04/27/2005 09:28:57Copy HTML I have visited Maui's Little Beach 12 times in the last 15 years. I live in Indiana. If only I lived closer to a beach. I could write a book on Little Beach if I wanted to. I'll be going back this coming Christmas/New Years break.
After the first day there, I was hooked. The beach has a little something for everyone. It is a nude beach, so those that wish to take it all off, can. Not all do. There are plenty of women that just take their tops off. Some are in thongs, some wear regular bikini bottoms. In all my visits, I've not noticed a thong on any of the guys. When I'm on a nude beach, I don't bother with a thong. I'll save it for another day, somewhere else. There is just the one way in and out of Little Beach. Once you come down off the trail and come out from behind that last bush, the view is breath-taking. It does surprise a few people. You can see it on their faces when they catch their first glimpse. The beach is a fairly small, crescent shaped beach that sits at the base of what they call a "cinder-cone". This cinder-cone looks like a baby volcano, one that just didn't grow up. The cinder-cone hides you from the rest of the world. Although, there is always a parade of boats going by. The gay guys hang out at the far end. The local crowd lands in the middle area. I prefer somewhere in between the first third and the middle third. Since I usually travel by myself, and being male, I get "hit on" too much by the guys, if I get to close the far end. The surf there is the best I've found for body surfing and boogie boarding. The surf on the other side of the lava outcropping, on "Big Beach", will kill you. Big waves. It's much too large and dangerous for the average tourist. It's not uncommon for the emergency squad to be seen there, hauling someone off to the hospital. (Boys will be boys). Aloha. |

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:09/30/2005 10:50:55Copy HTML They seem fine in the Marriott Wailea pools. However, I didn't see anyone wearing thongs along the hotel beaches along Wailea. I think no one really cares for any beach or hotel pool in HI.

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:03/14/2006 03:51:42Copy HTML I am planning on going for vacation at the end of March and stay in Kihei (South Maui). And I have some questions to ask: Do you have any experiences with thonging on Maui beaches? Which beaches are the most thong friendly? Has anyone of you tried to wear thongs on more family oriented beaches in Kihei or Wailea? What was the attitude of other beachgoers? I have heard that the locals are particularly not tolerant to thongs (and even bikinis), especially worn by men. Is that true? Are there any laws forbiding wearing thongs on Maui beaches? |

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:03/14/2006 09:34:36Copy HTML I was in Wailea in December 04, we stayed in the condos just down the street from the Four Seasons. I pretty much wore a Skinz Fitted Bikini the entire time and felt that was about as much as I could get away with on any of the nearby beaches (walking distance). The crowd tended to be more family oriented and I did not feel that a thong would have been well recieved. No negative comments, but in some places you just "get that feeling".
One place that you can thong, just outside of Wailea is a place called "Little Beach" which is a nude beach. You should have no problems in a thong out there. We didn't make it out there during our trip....unfortunately. Just a couple of other things that my wife and I thought made are trip really memorable. 1) Go for a Jeep as your rental car. We decided when we got there that the compact car was not going to cut it in the Maui sunshine, so we upgraded to the Jeep. We spent the entire week with the top down cruising around. Well worth the extra $$. 2) Drive the road to Hana. It will literally take you all day, but the scenery is worth every bit of it. If you are adventerous, continue all the way around the end of the island back to Wailea. It will take you through the lava fields and some absoloutely spectacular scenery. |

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:03/16/2006 10:11:05Copy HTML Tahiti beats Hawaii anytime. The attitude in french polynesia is miuch more relax than Hawaii. In tahiti you can spot an americam a mile away. Been to french polynesia 3 times, and never had a problem nude sunbathing on a motu or wearing a thong. |

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:03/18/2006 06:29:48Copy HTML I found Hawaii to be extremely thong friendly. Granted, there are not a lot of thongers there, but no one seemed to mind or pay too much attention to my girlfriend and I during our 2 week trip there in 2004. We spent a week in Oahu and comfortably wore thongs in Waikiki near the Hilton Hawaiian Village, on the North Shore (during a surfing competition no less), and on some more local West Coast Beaches.
On Kauai, we wore thongs on Poipu Beach, Poliale Beach, the North Shore beaches, as well as others the names I can't remember. If you search around the forums I believe I posted a report when we returned. I agree that Hawaii tends to be more family oriented but I had no troubles with them or anyone else, even on beaches where we were clearly the only tourists. I did see some other thongers as well, just not very many. I will be going back to Hawaii and wearing my thong all day every day. Just go for it. It's your life, live it. That said, I'm planning on going to Maui soon and would love to hear some more experiences, particularly with hotels, resorts, etc. |

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:07/16/2006 12:51:36Copy HTML I am going to Waikiki and Maui next week. My girlfriend wants to know how thong friendly the beaches or resorts in those places are. She wants to use them but she will not do that unless there are other women I have read that there are some places near the Hilton Hawaiian Village (in Honolulu) and in the beach of Kaanapali (Maui) where we can find many girls using their thongs or G-Strings without being looked oddly . We need some help from some of the people which frequently have visited Honolulu and Maui in order to have better information. Is there a particular beach or hotel in those places where thong using is more common for women? What is the approximate percentage of women thonging in those places? |

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:07/16/2006 07:15:07Copy HTML Waikiki, is not very good for thonging anymore. Back in the 90's there were quite a few thongs there but not many in the last few years. I would suggest if you will be thonging get out of the city, hit the counrty beaches.

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:07/16/2006 11:00:32Copy HTML Recently I was in Honolulu on business and stopped by a shop in Waikiki which for many years sold mens thongs and strings. Posted by the swimwear was a sign saying something like "for private use only" which made me ask the clerk what that was all about. He told me that the religious right had gotten a wild hair up its you know what and that they demanded that City government make the beach be "family friendly" by which they meant no bare butts! Apparently, they got an ordinance passed which makes it a misdemeanor to enjoy the sun on one's posterior and that the police actually enforce this ridiculous statute. I guess that it includes women as well but doesn't prohibit them going topless (so he said).
This is in contrast to the late 90's when I was working in Honolulu for six months and thonged on Waikiki or Ala Moana beach nearly every day and was hardly alone (many not many men but lots of women then ;-) My favorite was San Souci beach at the Diamond Head end of Waikiki because it was mainly locals there. Hawaii has always stunned me with its "missionary morality" and how it keeps the destination from realizing its amazing vacation potential. Vacations are about enjoying vices and sins that one doesn't do at home and are hedonistic. Look at the success of Vegas and Miami Beach at selling the idea of having a wild time and as the lady said "sex sells everything"! Instead they somehow believe that they will remain pure and get to heaven by prohibiting gambling, wild nightclubs and now "ohmygod" thongs! Go figure?!? |

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:07/17/2006 01:54:27Copy HTML Thanks, your information on Waikiki was very helpful and it is a shame that some religous groups (which probably are a minority) do have the power to make ordinances like this come true. Does anyone have more information about this ordinance? Does it apply to both men and women or just men? And what about Maui? Is Kaanapali beach thong friendly for women now? Is there a better place to wear thongs in Maui (women and men)? I also have read from other posts about Little Beach in Makena being Clothes Optional but I wonder if thongs are common there or basically this a nude beach?

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:11/29/2006 01:15:47Copy HTML I think that things are changing in Oahu, I was there last month and I found the place frendly fot thongers, I stay in Waikiki and after a long flight we rest untill mid morning then we take a walk and near the beach (in front of the zoo) there is a park and they were a guy taking the sun and wearing a thong, then we keep walking and found other girl with his husband sporting a thong... and none one care about it. After a morning walk we got hungry and went to take brakefest. After that we take the car and drive to the north shore and has very nice beaches for thongers, very secluded almost none one there. at Maui we thonged at Little Beach, not a big deal the beach is for naturist and I was the only one with a thong.. also there was a lot of people taking pics of the nudes, they just climb the rocks and take the pics and live the place but one older couple was on the montain full clothed with a camcorder and a photo camara and they filmed all the peoples one by one, they hide themselves in the middle of the trees and lasted 30 min. I didnt like it too much but in a public beach you cant say anything. |

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:12/01/2006 09:14:35Copy HTML Erik: At most nude beaches I have been do people certainly do "say something". Usually there are locals who will confront anyone who takes pictures without permission. I have seen some of the more rowdy locals actually take a guy's camera and open it up, exposing all the film. While this is a bit extreme, taking pictures without permission is certainly rude and should not be allowed to happen unchallenged. |

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:12/02/2006 07:08:13Copy HTML The thing David is that Little beach is an small beach that is adjacent to Big beach, to acces to this beach you need to climb a montain and at the middle of the montain has a trial with trees and you need to go down a little to get to the beach So most of the bathers are facing to the beach and dont look to the back. I was playing with the waves and noticed that a lot of people some young just climb the montain take a pic and live the place but this couple was full clothed (t-shirt and shorts) were ther filming and photografing from diferent places, they moved from one place to the other. I was so angry that I was almost going to advice to all the beach but at the end I just take it easy. I look around and none one was noticed about this, all people were relaxed taking the sun... I know for sure that this people are going to sell the video and the photo, because both cameras seems to be profesional and with good Lens to zoom. |

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:03/23/2007 04:49:21Copy HTML Howzit sheluvs - I live on the north shore but haven't made it out to the beach cause I'm swamped at work. Still, when I drive home windward side I can usually spot one or two thongs. I think thongs are gaining a lot of acceptance here, equally with locals and tourists. I've been seeing a lot of surfer girls wearing them too. Only wish more places sold them so more people would think about wearing them. Keep thonging in Hawaii! |

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:02/14/2008 10:16:03Copy HTML Hi all,Me and my wife are divided between Hawaii or Riviera Maya (I know, but those pyramids have an appeal...). I guess in Mexico there is no question, just book any adults only resort, it shouldn't be a problem for small bikinies. Anyway, I don't know about Hawaii. We're from Brazil, and, although my wife uses thongs regularly here, she is really bothered if the other girls are not in the same way. Just to be clear, we're talking brazilian low cut thongs, but not g-strings here. Something like the Berrydogs tongas...So my question is, where colud be a good place to get a tan on the sand, and walk to the pool? Thanks,Roger

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:04/27/2008 06:38:52Copy HTML We just got back from a week on Oahu. The weather was perfect. We stayed at Marriott's Ko Olina Beach Club. It's located about 45 minutes north west from Waikiki. This location has 4 man made lagoons. I was able to swim and snorkle the whole week in my thong which was great. The wife and kids stayed on the beach and dug sand. I saw four women in thongs during the week, but I was the only male. The swimming pools were another story as there were many kids around. Great place! Wish we were still there.

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:05/21/2008 08:14:48Copy HTML There is a great beach on Kauai if you get to that Island, called secret beach. Acessible from just a small steep path and then secluded by cliffs, its about a mile long and very few on it.
Those who are on it are usually nude, and thongs will cause no issues - I've done both. |

I thong regularly at home in the back yard but have not thonged at the beach & would like to give it a try. I have been there on several occasions & there were a few people some fishermen & I noticed military police on patrol, but no one in thongs. Would I get in trouble by the MP’s for thonging? Or does anyone know of a better place on Oahu to thong? I like to thong in Muscle skins MPT or Skinz Bravia thong & I’m not sure how tolerant other locals are. I thong alone & just don’t want to get hassled by the locals.

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:11/16/2008 08:08:59Copy HTML Got to sun in a thong this past Friday at Barbers Point Beach. Went over near the cabins away from others. Found a small opening between some brush at the upper portion of the beach, which I laid out. Had no problems & no hassles. Only a few people walked by & most didn’t even bat an eye that I was in a thong, it was a weekday so there were no children around. Had one older lady in a one piece suit looking for shells walk back & forth in front of me a bunch of times & than came up to say hi & that I had a great tan & that I looked good in my suit. She said that it was the first time she saw a male in a thong in public & just had to say hi (or a better look). I asked her why she wasn’t in a thong or smaller swimwear & she said “naw I’m to old, I wont look good & nobody wants to see a old lady in a thong” Told her that she looked good & she would probably look stunning in a smaller swimsuit or even a thong. She really did look good for her age & looked to keep herself up well. She sat & we talked while I sunned for a while longer & than she said she needed to get back to her kids & grand kids they probably was wondering where she was & as she was leaving she said thank you for the nice comments you made this old lady feel young again, I hope to see you again before my vacation ends! This was my first time sunning in a thong in public & Id say it went real well. I have been wearing thongs for over 14 yrs but this was my first time in public. I wore a Muscle Skin MPX in Tangerine that when dry can’t see through. I wanted to go into the water a 2nd time to cool off but with lady there I was afraid that the suit would become too transparent when wet & may not have been acceptable. Can’t wait to sun at the beach again! Barbers Point towards the Cost Guard station just before the cabins seem to be a great location with the water right there to cool off in & no too many people around.

Date Posted:11/17/2008 02:43:20Copy HTML Rockys01, nice report, it's always great to hear about another guy or gal taking the plunge and finding the thonging experience rewarding. In an MPX, no less! Rather daring for the first time -- congrats for having the guts. You were fortunate to meet a lady so friendly, encouraging and complimentary, and it's great the way you made her day, too. It feels great to feel accepted by regular folks, like you're still part of the human race. Those are the kinds of social exchanges while thonging that really warm the heart. Welcome to the club of happy, confidant thongers!

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:02/17/2009 11:05:13Copy HTML I'm going to Waikiki, Honolulu, and a couple of other islands in a few weeks. Does anybody have any updates on the thonging situation in Hawaii? I'd like to do some thonging at the beach or hotel swimming pools. Any information would be appreciated.

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:03/14/2009 10:46:09Copy HTML We've been to Oahu several times. Waikiki beach is definitely a family/tourist beach. You'd probably find a few younger women wearing thongs there. Oahu has some great beaches but most are pretty crowded and not what we'd think are thong "friendly".

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:03/16/2009 01:40:19Copy HTML A few years ago Sans Souci beach on the Diamond Head end of Waikiki was pretty much locals and thong friendly as long as you were low key about it. I also found that the beach at Ala Moana Park to be more locals than tourists on weekends anyways and at least a good percentage of girls in thongs. Hawaii sadly just never could get past its Missionary past and still remains a bit too uptight for me.
I'll take South Beach any day over Waikiki! Between South Beach and Haulover there's really nothing a thonglover is left wanting. cheers |

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:03/17/2009 05:12:33Copy HTML I haven't been to Ohau since the 1990's but there is a beach east of Waikiki on Diamond Head Rd, just past the intersection of Beach Rd. I think it was called Lighthouse Beach because of an old lighthouse on the bluff. The beach is popular with windsurfers. In the late afternoon when the winds pickup, they put on a great show. No lifeguards, thongers and topless was common. Look for some small parking areas along the road and roadside parking. A trail leads down to the beach, fresh water shower at the bottom of the trail.
