I stayed away from the lighthouse area, more towards the residential side. There were not too many people on the beach. I got to tan in my g-string all day without worries.

I walked up the beach to check out some of the places people had written about. I found mostly men in speedos grouped together near Diamond Head. I didn't go all the way up to the end. At the Hilton I found several men in speedos and women in rio's and a few thongs as the weather got hotter. It was a perfect week. After the third day I wore my black thong and layed out near the lagoon with my wife and friends. It kind of shocked a few people at first but soon people were not fazed. I also noticed more men decided to wear speedos but no thongs. Swimming in my thong was great but the water is really salty and you have to rinse it out really well. I did some surfing but I chose not to wear a thong for that. All in all a great vacation.

I wonder if their spouse made positive comments about your suit or if they had been wanting to wear something smaller but just did not dare until they saw that people were ok with you wearing a thong?

Only one day of rain due to remnants of Felisa. We stayed at the Aston Kaanapali Shores which is a timeshare condo type of place very different from the all inclusive places we usually go to in the Carribean.
I wore my dark colored rios (sunup/sundwn, skins, breakers). I ostensibly was "that guy". My wife even said at our arrival at the resort that I would stick out like a sore thumb. It was difficult at first to get up the cahones to do it but I did and each day it was a little easier. I mean any guy wearing anything above his knee was difficult to find, no one wearing regular speedos even at our resort which was as you may have guessed by now predominantly American. We did go to Napili beach to snorkel and did notice few 3-5 men wearing speedos. We did not see any women in thongs or g's at all but a few in rios comparable in size to mine. In all of our vacations over the last several years I felt the most apprehensive about my swim attire on this one. I had a lot of stares but no audible comments that were bad and the management did not send anyone to ask me to cover up or leave so that was good. On the last day I was on the beach about shin high in the water playing catch with my daughter when three 30-40 something black women walked by us. They were totally checking me out and one of them sneaked a closer look at me by "losing" her flip flop in water near me, they were all giggling like schoolgirls, Made My Day! |

I was there earlier this year. It was the first beach I have ever worn thongs at. I felt totally comfortable [and hot!] walking up and down the beach in my string thong. It is known to be a gay beach, so if you have issues with that then you're shit outta luck. :-)

I have to say though that I've been to Hawaii many times, Maui mostly, and I can count the number of thongs I've seen on one hand. I might add that I have never seen a guy in a thong over there, ever. So sorry if I'm a bit negative but I question it when someone claims there is a beach where guys wear thongs more than anything else. I'll believe it if and when I see it.

Date Posted：12/07/2009 04:54:17Copy HTML We lived in Hawaii on Oahu for 6 yrs and we found that the best places to thong were not known to most tourist's, but it you have a moderate thong you will not get hassled on the hotel beaches. Just stay away from the locals who like to sit and stare at people on the beach, because they are not evolved enough to handle seeing people wearing thongs and will shout obscenities at guys and hassle women if given the chance.

I do really like the look of the Sinny Sided thong from skinz too. I have several skinzwear bikinis and love them, so eager to try the thongs. Thong on, stud!

Thongs observed at north end of Ka'anapali, Kapalua, and Palauea (White Rock) beaches; females only. Some guys in speedos at Napili. I wore my thong at Maluaka (Makena) Beach, near Maui Prince, Po'olenalena, and Oneloa (Ironwoods) Beach. At possibly more conservative areas (Napili, Kama'ole II, Wailea) I wore my "original boodie" with adjustable back for swimming or snorkeling; usually as a thong in the water. No objections or complaints. Several looks and a few cameras obviously pointed my way, which I took as a compliment. As suggested by previous comments, I avoided obviously "local" groups of guys at Kama'ole. Ironwoods Beach had few people other than some surfers, nice parking area and rinse shower at start of beach trail (Ironwoods Golf Resort?). The beaches near large resorts were not busy during the week and possibly have more open minded-tolerant-cosmopolitan guests or residents. My wife & I enjoyed the beaches, great weather, and the tsunami was fortunately a non-event. We referred to an excellent guidebook ("Maui Revealed") for beach locations and access, etc. |

Looking for some more secluded, deserted beaches in Kauai so I can get my BF to thong with me - he's a little on the shy side. Any suggestions? I've heard Secret Beach is really nice and quiet. I do not remember the exact location, but the party is famous.

The most thong friendly beac by far is Diamond Head's Lighthouse beach. Easy to park, easy to walk down to the beach. Learned after checking the surroundings that going left towards the houses and a small bay is the place to be. As I gained my bearings, there were 2 guys CLEARLY cruising, and I was approached by both of them to "watch their stuff" while they got naked and went into the water. I politely declined and claimed tourist ignorance to the "gay nude beach" I was on. Personally, I'm not gay although I am not bothered by it, but one of the guys was a little more agressive and asked me too many questions.
So, after that scenario, it was incentive to walk LEFT (walking RIGHT leads you to a white house and driveway with a guard who walkd the area closest to toward the beach). While laying out to the left, had a few people pass, 4 guys who ended up laying out in thongs or gstrings, 2 couples, and 2 girls. Everyone was "cool" and to themselves although one of the guys wanted suntan lotion help which I politely declined. The scene was actually pretty nice as it was CLOSE to waikiki which is where i was staying. I've thonged on the north shore with my wife which makes me feel the most comfortable (obviously). At lighthouse beach there were a lot of surfers at the time, but they seemed to also understand that they were surfing at a "gay nude beach" so they gave no looks or cares at all. Personally, I would say that if you go down the path, to the RIGHT is the "cruiser" section, the first 1/4 mile to the LEFT is the surfer section, and the rest of the area to the LEFT is the "whatever is your thing" section. Felt comfortable and will go there again when I have little time to lay out near Waikiki. Hope this helps. |

I've been there twice. We've visited Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island. I saw a few thongs on all islands. I would think they are pretty much accepted everywhere. I may be wrong, but I really can't foresee an issue with her wearing one. That being said, on Maui, we satyed at the Kannapoli (spelling) Beach hotel for a week. On the beach next to the hotel and inside the hotel grounds I saw topless women and women in thongs. No one batted an eye at them. They were all seen by hotel staff. On Kauai, we saw thongs on Tunnels Beach and Poipu Beach. Both were very thong friendly. Tunnels doesn't have any hotels but there are nice houses for rent. Poipu has hotels and is a popular beach. If you make it to Tunnels, there is a nude section down on the far end away from the State Park. Toward the East end of the beach away from the lifeguard stand. On Oahu, Waikiki Beach is nice and is thong friendly. Although, there are many many more people on this beach and she will be in the thong wearing minority. Saw a couple in thongs at Hanauma Bay on Oahu, a single woman in a thong on Big Beach on Maui, and a single woman in thong on a beach near Hana. Other than that, the guys were in dork shorts, with a few in speedo-types. My wife wore her wicked weasels around Maui and Kauai beaches, and at the Westin & St. Regis Princeville with no problems. A couple of looks, and I am sure envious comments. I wore my Andrew Christians square cut swimsuits everywhere and I am already getting some looks. sigh, conservative americans. |

I wouldn't anticipate any issues with thonging. Both of you should be able to wear them. The people in Hawaii are all laid-back and very easy going. I went to the grocery store while I was there. Both times I saw at least two ladies wearing nothing more than two piece bikinis and flip-flops. Very tiny two piece bikinis! They were wlking through the isles and going through the check-out lines as if its not big deal. I've seen from travel shows that Lanai is probably the least visited island. There are larg areas of the island that are uninhabited and undeveloped. Many beaches are only accessible using a 4-wheel drive. Once you get there, you might be the only ones on that particular beach! You shouldn't have a problem on Lanai or any other place in Hawaii. After reading all the posts about thonging in Hawaii I am left with two impressions: 1) No problems thonging, but 2) watch out for locals, tourists and families. That leaves me with the question: Which island/beach would you recommend where I can thong without my girlfriend feeling like she is on a thong-only/nude beach?

There were a few hotties nude though.I also finally worked up the courage to thong at Kanapali; it basically consists of stripping down and going into the water, and then back to the towel. Tried hard to avoid the families and the rednecks so it was more nervous then enjoyable. =(
A bit disappointed so far I haven't spotted another thonger, either guy/girl. |

Kamaole II, and particularly III, may have more locals and rednecks, especially on weekends. Most of the time on Little Beach, like you, I was the only guy in a thong, but there were some women wearing thongs too. It didn't bother me to be the only one "dressed" though :-) But even on Little Beach you can see sometimes men wearing thongs or very skimpy bikinis. Yes, you can't see many thongers on Maui, even speedos are very, very rare - but it doesn't mean that you will have problems wearing them. After all European tourist still use speedos for comfort and better tan - I wore mine in Kaanapali. Oh, I also hiked several times in thongs on the Red Hill towering Little Beach - that was fun.

Unlike the movies where having tried it once, a magic wand is waved and the subject is suddenly endowed with grace and self-confidence, in real life you just have to keep doing it. Sometimes the sun shines and the weather is wonderful, sometimes it rains but with the right attitude you have a good day anyway. Same with thonging at the beach. Sometimes you get only positive similes and compliments, other days some fools say negative things, but with a positive attitude you can have a good day anyway. |

I was REALLY disappointed at the lack of minimal swimwear I saw. I never saw a single woman, much less a man, wearing a thong in either place, and I see more Speedo's when I go to a Disney water park than I did in either spot. I wore a square cut, and although I got no negative responses, I didn't feel I could push the envelope any further. :-(

Out on the beaches even the ones in the country your rarely see minimal swimwear. Have heard of a few semi private places beach spots that ppl sun in minimal swimwear but couldnt find it. Daimond head & Sand Island beach isnt bad but too much cursing going on. Looking for someplace simple to get to & able to lay out by myself or with other thongers for an hour or so with being bothered. Any one else on Oahu thong?

I stayed at the Otaini Hotel in Wakiki; there is a small beach there where there were a few men and women in thongs. In fact, I purchased two thongs at a swimwear store a few blocks away from there. I also went to a beach near Dillingham field on the North Shore. There were no too many people there, but there was at least one women in a thong. I also wore a thong at a beach in Kaena Point State Park. In all three places, I felt very comfortable wearing a thong. That was a few years ago and I have not been back to those beaches since then; perhaps the mood has changed.
In 2008, I spent a few days on the Big Island where I wore a thong at a beach park outside of Hilo. I also went to Kehena Beach in the Puna District. There are mostly nudists on that beach, and I went there only wearing my thong tanline. |

I can't imagine going to a place like Hawaii and not thonging. I typically don't care if I'm the only dude in a thong although I favor quieter and more secluded beaches for thonging.
