Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:09/07/2012 08:37:18Copy HTML We were on Oahu in April this year and stayed at Ko Olina. I wore my thong at the second lagoon for three days during the week. I like the second lagoon because it has the best snorkling. I was the only one wearing a thong or g-string but that didn't bother me.
In previous years when staying in Waikiki, we would go to Ft. De Russy and wear a thong without any problems. Also went to Ala Moana many times and even used the showers. |

Date Posted:09/08/2012 02:45:13Copy HTML I've been to Diamondhead Beach under the lighthouse on several occasions and every time I've seen other male thongers and I've spent the entire day swimming, walking the beach and hiking up the cliffs in nothing but my skimpy thongs.

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:09/15/2012 11:58:16Copy HTML I just visited Oahu and went to Ala Moana twice, Friday and Saturday. I wore a navy Muscleskins poser, 1/2-inch, rio back, so while it's not a thong, it's still pretty brief, and it was no big deal. Some looks, as to be expected, but everyone was super chill, and a thong probably wouldn't have been a problem. The beach was mostly local families with kids, and not super crowded so you could get 10-20 feet away from other people.
I laid out on the slope near the water so I could see my stuff when I was in the ocean. I was in between a lifeguard tower and a couple of familes with kids teaching them how to surf. There were a couple of guys in pretty small swimwear, the obligatory old guys in Speedos, and a couple of girls in thongs and a few more in rio backs. There's lots of parking, and it's a great place to go. |

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:09/16/2012 09:21:39Copy HTML Dewen glad to hear you had a good time at Ala Moana Beach. It has always been one our favorite places to wear a thong while in Waikiki. You will see many locals there and they are mostly friendly. It's also a great place to swim because the water is always calm.

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:10/02/2012 11:26:27Copy HTML I'm hoping to travel to Hawaii early in 2013. There are so many places to visit that look awesome (this will be my first trip to Hawaii), it is so difficult to plan an eight day trip where I can get the most out of it. I'd like to wear thongs the entire time without being hassled. Also, maybe go nude like you have done. Aren't there some legal nude beaches in Hawaii?

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:10/03/2012 12:15:50Copy HTML If you want to be nude you need to go to Little Beach. It is southwest of the airport. My wife and I wore our g-strings the whole week on west Maui in July. We were the only ones wearing thongs or g-strings. I snorkled everyday in a g-string. If you go to west Maui you will the only one wearing a thong. No one hassled us during our week.

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:10/03/2012 01:17:36Copy HTML I spent a few days in Maui in 2000. One day I went to Little Beach. To get there, after parking in the lot, I had to walk across Big Beach (textile), climbed over some rocks, and went to Little Beach. It was mostly nude, so I took everything off. The whales were off in the ocean, and it was a great scene watching dozens of nudists line up at the edge of the ocean watching the whales.
Another day, I went to Red Sand Beach in Hana. The drive to Hana itself is quite a trip. I parked in the town and walked to the beach and had a great nude day. It is not as crowded as Little Beach, and there are some pebbles on the beach, but it was still fine. Being nude or wearing a thong or g-string seems to make the crowd more friendly and open. Very quickly, I started talking to the people around me. On the same trip, I also spent a few days on Oahu where I wore a thong or g-string on beaches along the north-west coast. A link for nude beaches in Hawaii is http://gohawaii.about.com/cs/beaches/a/nude_beaches_2.htm There are also directions on how to get then. |

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:10/04/2012 06:06:40Copy HTML I also was nude the entire time at Little Beach, but when I went back to the hotel the "Hawaii Prince" I would wear my open mesh G-string to the pool and the hot tub. I actually wore only the G-string to and from the beach after parking and once over the rocks on Little Beach off came the G-string

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:11/16/2012 07:23:42Copy HTML I'm going to Maui soon, and I'm going to try it! I doubt I can talk my partner into Little Beach, but if I am brave I will try it somewhere else. I will let you know how it went and if I saw any others! I'm so impressed by all you male thongers that I shouldn't be scared at all, but I am still a bit nervous :)

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:11/19/2012 10:15:56Copy HTML I wore a thong at Lahana Shores back in 2005. It was a nice beach but it wasn't very wide at the part that I was staying. Another place that you might check out is the Olivine Pools. If you get there early then you will have the place to yourself and the pools will be calm and undisturbed. It's awesome. Take an underwater camera and you can get some cool pictures. I wore a thong there too. The rest of Hawaii was pretty dissapointing as far as seeing other people in thongs. I never had anyone say anything to me but I was the only one wearing a thong wherever I went. It didn't bother me but it would have been nice to see other thongers.

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:11/28/2012 06:28:21Copy HTML Here is my data from Maui! Kind of disappointing. I didn't actually see a 100% thong, and then wasn't brave enough to wear mine :/ There were a few of what I will call almost-thongs, which are very tiny and practically thongs (especially when riding up), but not quite.
Malukala Beach Park: No thongs Oneloa Bay Beach (very NE part of maui): 3 female mostly-thongs, including my back up mostly-thong :) Slower, resorty part of Kaanapali Beach, north of Black Rock: 0 thongs; 1 very skimpy rio bottom on a man sunning at one of the resorts, which was good to see! Busy part of Kaanapali Beach, south of the Black Rock: 2 female mostly-thongs Paia Park Beach: 1 female mostly-thong |

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:02/27/2013 04:30:51Copy HTML Was recently on Maui to attend a wedding. Was with family and there were several people from my family as well as the bride's family present, so not a good place to wear minimal stuff. I refuse to wear those boardies for anything IN the water so I chose to wear my "Calvin Klein" swim trunk which my wife picked out for me to wear places that I cannot wear minimal suits.
These trunks are similar to the ones Daniel Craig wore in one of the James Bond movies a couple of years ago(can't remember which one, but he caused quite a stir). As can be expected ALL men were wearing board shorts maybe one or two thonged women but mostly conservative stuff. I was "that guy" and not because of minimal stuff but because of my conservative(I think) "speedo". SixFive is right when it comes to the public and their opinion of men in anything other than boardies, oh well! I still refuse to wear them in the water, they just feel ridiculous. I am glad that my wife does not insist on me wearing them instead of the "speedo", heck she did not complain on our recent trip to Mexico where I wore an actual thong most of the time at the beach! That's love!! |

Any new thoughts, were to stay close to a thonging beach, best time to go, do I need to rent a car or is there good pubic transportation, straight night life in the area. Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:03/12/2013 12:02:29Copy HTML I've been to Maui several times and love the place. I've never run into a "thonging" beach but "Little Beach" on the south side is a nude beach. Everyone there seems to be open minded and laid back so you could wear a thong, but you will have more clothes on than most. Maui has better night life than some of the other islands, but there isn't a lot of choices in my opinion. If I'm not with the family I usually just go to a restaurant bar.
I would rent a car. I like the south-west side (wailea) as I think there are more outdoor things to do and the beaches are nicer. |

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:05/14/2013 01:43:24Copy HTML Visiting Oahu again, and wore the same suit as above (Muscleskins poser, 1/2 inch straps, rio rear, almost a thong), and had a good, relaxing time at Ala Moana. I also received my first compliment ever! There is an artificial reef that's maybe 100 feet deep, maybe 150 feet out that keeps the water near the beach calm. Surfers will swim over to the reef, and walk over it on a narrow path to get to the ocean waves. I swam out to the reef and walked over it because I'd never been out there before.
Walking back, a very cute, young woman surfer and her boyfriend were walking out to the ocean, so I stood aside to give them room since they were carrying their surfboards. I smiled and said hi, she said hi, and added, "I like your bottoms. I *really* like them!" (Emphasis hers.) I smiled and said thanks, and walked a little taller that day. She was wearing a rash shirt, and some Brazilian cut bikini bottom. BF was wearing board shorts. Other sightings included lots of narrow back bikinis, some becoming thongs. |

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:06/03/2013 09:26:20Copy HTML dewen, excellent work! I am so glad you got positively noticed :) I was just there a few weeks later!
What I saw on Waikiki May 2013: Boys: Mostly board shorts, a few briefs, one near-brazilian. Girls: I did see 3 actual thongs, and a LOT of pretty small brazilian-like swimsuits. Then I added my own thongs into the mix 3 of the 5 times I hit the beach :) Also at the hotel next to us they had a fashion show / party at a hotel with mostly brazilian / maybe some thongs from San Lorenzo, one of the popular swimsuit shops. Progress??? |

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:06/04/2013 12:29:01Copy HTML Just came back from a Maui trip with the GF. Took along my Muscleskins Classic with Athletic rear and 3/4" sides. I've always thought of them as pretty conservative but my GF teased me by calling them my "tiny-whinys". Wore them snorkeling around Honolua Bay and Black Rock, felt great being underwater with them on.
During my stay on Maui I only saw two other guys wearing classic Speedos. One guy wore form-fitting hi-cut shorts on Kaanapali Beach. As for women I saw a lot of Rio bottoms and "cheeky" bikinis. But I saw no thongs at all on either sex. :( |

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:06/04/2013 12:38:25Copy HTML I'm heading back to Maui this summer any further updates? I've been to Maui several times and don't see many thongs, but the last couple of years I've seen more on women. I know I could wear them easily on Little Beach, but funny how I would still be the odd one out since its a nude beach. Would I have any issues on Big Beach or does anyone know of some more south west side lower key spots?
I refuse to wear board shorts this time. |

I don't think you would be out of place at Little Beach. When we were there I saw more than a few people wearing swimwear (bikinis & board shorts). It was mostly men who were nude. On the southern end of Big Beach (away from Little Beach) I saw a lot of body and boogieboard surfers. It looked to me like they were mostly teenage locals. I don't think you would have any problems on Big Beach. If you felt uncomfortable for any reason you could always find somewhere less populated on Big Beach to sun yourself, the visitors there seemed to be pretty spread out. |

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:07/07/2013 08:16:07Copy HTML We just got back from a week at The Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort Villas. It is located in north Ka'anapali. I snorkeled everyday right in front of the Westin in a G-string. Wife stayed on the beach and watched. We were the only ones in minimal swimwear the whole week. I did see one speedo and some women in rio back suits. I forgot to bring a red, white, and blue suit for the 4th, but wore one of my bling G-strings. Received lots of compliments on my bling suits.

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:08/09/2013 07:55:46Copy HTML I’ve lived on Maui for almost 10 years now and regularly wear my tiny rio and thong swimsuits on the beaches here without any major hassles. Get a lot of nice smiles and long looks of course, total indifference is by far the most common and even some compliments have been given to me directly on occasion. You’ll hear some snide remarks in the back round now and then of course, always by insecure males having to deride anyone who dares to be different, and then there’s the knee-jerk “gay” comments which I suppose feeds there need to feel “normal.” I always just carry on like no one is noticing at all. I love it when a guy will make some snide remark and then the woman he’s with will say something positive like “it looks good on him” and then the guy gets real quiet. By the way my favorite beaches are Kanahapali -north of black rock (known as old airport beach) In south Maui the beach in front of the Maui Prince hotel but there are SO MANY great beaches here! Aloha, and hope to see you there... in your thong!

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:09/30/2013 04:50:09Copy HTML I was visiting Hawaii again recently, and thonged there for the first time! I spent two days again at Ala Moana Beach in a Muscleskins 1/2-inch poser, and its rio back basically rides up into a very conservative thong no matter what you do. As usual, no problems except for the many, many Japanese wedding couples and their photographers yelling commands at them to break up a peaceful beach day.
I spent two more days at Kaimana Beach, AKA Sans Souci, which is in front of the New Otani Hotel on the far end of Waikiki. I wore the rio the first day, but there was a gorgeous woman there wearing a black thong who'd walk across the small beach to shower off each time she came in from the ocean, so I decided to be brave and wear my thong the next day. It's an MS 1/2-inch poser with an actual thong back, and while people did look, it was still a pretty relaxed atmosphere. The biggest hurdle was in my head, though it always helps when there's someone else on the beach not wearing much. That day there weren't any other thongers, but there was a beautiful young Russian woman in a small Brazilian bikini. It's a small beach, and the water's great for swimming with a very gradual slope to the ocean floor. The people are mostly locals with fewer tourists, and parking's not too bad. I had people set up around me, and I was in the middle near the lifeguard, so I wasn't trying to hide, and went into the ocean a few times. As for thong sightings, there was just that one woman in a thong, and many others in cheeky bottoms, which seem to be more popular now. When I was leaving Sans Souci, a group of guys just arrived, and at least 1 was wearing a bikini. I had a great time, and I hope more men and women go to the beach in their minimal swimwear! BTW, I ran across this website which has many pictures of Sans Souci by a pair of twins, both of whom are very active physically and wear pretty minimal swimwear. Those are the best kind of thong pictures! Look on their Flick page for their various Hawaii albums, though the same pictures are posted elsewhere, too: http://www.bombtwinz.com |

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:05/08/2014 02:52:42Copy HTML I've neglected to write about my last two-three trips to Oahu, and with a trip coming up next week I thought I would do so. Here goes... Sandy Beach Park: Spent 3 days here in total. Laid out in a thong the whole time near the rocks to the right. This is a bogey-board beach and the waves are usually high precluding water access without fins. I watched people get crushed here and it's a great place to people watch. I would say that this is a 'locals' beach and there were numerous thongs on the girls, and a bunch of other TINY bottoms on most of the others. A few speedos on guys in a Euro-cut way, but I was the only one in a thong. The rocks to the right of the parking lot also provide a bit of privacy but people do walk the beach to get a better look at the blow-hole in the distance. You can go in the water in between the rocks to cool off if you keep your eyes on the waves. Diamond Head Beach: Spent 3 days here as well. I like this beach a lot. While it is touristy at the top due to the view, the hike down keeps most tourists away. This is the closest beach to Waikiki and I go here on days when I do not have time to explore. I laid out closest to the homes, which is a 1/4 mile hike to the left. if you go right, you are on lighthouse beach which is the 'gay cruisey beach' where some people go nude. Never stayed there but did walk it one morning. There was 1 girl in a thong who laid out not far from me. Many couples walk this beach as well, but many were wearing rio bottoms with guys in board shorts. One guy came by in a gstring and laid out about 30 ft away closer to the bushes. He went nude and then went for a swim. I noticed that the bushes were cut much lower, perhaps to deter going nude, as this is a popular spot for a nude dip. One homeowner came for a dip and said hello and was very nice, which was also encouraging. This is a great beach to lay out close to Waikiki. If you want to feel closer to action you can lay out in the cove area where the surfers enter the water, or closer to the bottom of the paved walkway down to the water. Makapu'u Beach Park: Spent 1 day here. GREAT beach. I was very encouraged to see that when I got here there were 2 girls in thongs and topless in the water swimming. You can BARELY see from the road it is so high and far away, so this is also a comfortable spot. All traffic will come from your left and you can see if anyone is coming if you need that. I set up towards the end of the beach but noticed a number of families began to arrive around lunchtime. The parking lot is small and may deter people, but this is also a great beach to bogey-board and it is not as rough as Sandy Beach. The 2 girls and I were the only ones with skimpy swimwear as everyone else was boardshorts. Waikiki beach and Queens Beach: Spent 2 afternoons here AFTER spending most of the day at Diamondhead beach. On my way back to the hotel, stopped twice. There were actually a lot of thongs. Easily 4-5 girls in thongs, one guy in a black g string on the beach, and towards queen beach (Waikiki gay beach area), there were about 8 guys in small speedos, and a group of guys in thongs laying in the grass. The guys in the grass appeared to be 40-50 years old and all knew each other. The guys on the beach seemed to be mainly paired up laying out. I laid out in between queen beach and the main Waikiki beach area, and immediately went from a Gregg Homme skimpy bikini suit to my black thong underneath. I noticed on my return trip from the water that one of the girls in a red thong bottom near me had her top off and had a great pair showing. I think this is the best location in Waikiki to see minimal swimwear as it is not quite in the gay section, but not in the middle of the family section. Banzai Pipeline: Spent 2 days here. This is also a great spot and while people come and go, I would mainly call it a locals beach. People bring their kids and dogs and picnic and watch the surfers. The girls come to get a tan and watch the surfers, and the girls on this beach are the BEST by far. I would say it is easily 60% thong/rio cut swimsuits, and the age definitely trends under 35. Great spot to people watch. I started higher up on the beach about 15 feet from the shrubs but eventually moved closer to the water where you could actually go in and cool off. Both days I was there I would say the waves were average, and I've been here also on days when the waves were too big to even think about getting near the water. I'm going to be on Oahu next week for 2 days, then back a week later for 1 day so I'm going to try to test another beach out.... But knowing the areas I usually hit, I may just end up going back to these favorites. |

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:05/11/2014 06:09:27Copy HTML Hey, thanks.
I did not receive one negative comment, glance, or shrug at any beach there. I have to say, I think Hawaii is probably the most tolerant state as far as swimwear goes. Been to Haulover, SoBe, Venice, SoCal... All great spots and cool, but you know when you depart the comfort zone. In totality, in America, Hawaii is the best overall place to thong without worrying about other people. On flight now to HNL for 2 days! Anyone out there on Oahu this weekend? |

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:05/13/2014 05:03:04Copy HTML @thong4me, was the part of Waikiki you were at right by the volleyball courts? I think there's a little wharf that goes out to the ocean with a little roofed area at the end.

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:05/17/2014 03:35:31Copy HTML I just spent the better part of a week in Honolulu, and wore a thong to the beach every day. I'd say that Hawaii is somewhere between thong tolerant and thong friendly, and no one should have trouble wearing one. People will either look and then go about their business, ignore you, or say something only out of surprise. My last day here, a couple of young girls going into the water saw me getting out and yelled "He's wearing a thong!" They were talking loudly about everything, so it wasn't just because of me that they yelled. I waved and smiled, and so did they. We were cool.
It doesn't hurt that almost a majority of the women, especially the younger ones, were wearing cheeky, Brazilian, or very conservative thongs (I don't even know how to tell them apart now), so the atmosphere was pretty conducive to minimal swimwear. I didn't see any women wear anything briefer than a conservative thong, though. For the men, I saw an older man wearing a tie side gstring at Sans Souci, and one with the back of his briefs pulled into a thong, but that's it for thongs. A very fit older man was wearing a rio back brief, and there were the usual few Speedo/squarecut wearers. Most of the men wore long boardshorts, which really looked out of place next to all of the women. I spent 3 days at Sans Souci, and 1 at Ala Moana, wearing a black 3/8-inch Musclekins poser with a sport thong back. There were people all around me of all ages with and without children at Sans Souci, and lots of surfers walking by at Ala Moana. Ala Moana is much quieter and mellow, while SS has a lot more going on, closer to a Waikiki atmosphere, but still mellow compared to the main strip. Both are great spots. |

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:10/07/2014 10:24:57Copy HTML I'll be visiting Maui the middle of November for some training and wondered what the atmosphere is for a thong or gstring. I'll be at the Grand Wailaia Waldorf Astoria if anyone would like to join me. Not sure if I'll much time during the day and later in the evenings for sure.

Re:Thonging in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui ? Date Posted:10/09/2014 03:47:36Copy HTML I was in Maui in 2009 with my wife. We rented a condo for a week in Kihei, and we spent one night in Hana. This was before my thonging days so I can't say too much about that and you'll probably find more info elsewhere. However, the unofficial nude beach (Little Beach) near Makena State Park is worth going to. You'll have no problem there. Honestly, there is so much to do in Maui that we didn't spend too much time just on the beach. There's volcanoes, Road to Hana, the coffee plantations and forested area, jungles, and so forth. I went on a private dive into some caverns with white tip reef sharks. One of my favorite dives.
