WASHINGTON -- In what might have been record time, the Senate Commerce Committee on Thursday approved legislation aimed at reinstating the FCC's authority to fine broadcasters for a slip of the tongue. The measure was passed in less than five minutes on a voice vote without debate or dissent.
The Protecting Children From Indecent Programming Act is Congress' attempt to overturn a June decision by a federal appeals court in New York that tossed out the FCC indecency regulation that said a fleeting reference gets broadcasters a fine for indecency. In its decision, the court told the commission that it failed to give a good reason for its decision and likely couldn't find a good reason if it had to.
FCC chairman Kevin Martin hailed Thursday's move, calling it necessary to protect the nation's children from indecent images.

I seem to recall old monty python sketch's on pbs where the breast weren't blurred. What is allowed on the uk?

I have seen shows from the US on our screen with even the slightest hint of anything being blurred. The Survivor series was even blurring out the smallest hint of bum crack showing above some guys shorts! A recent series over here has been 'The Nanny', where an English girl stays with a family and tries to teach them to control their kids. On the shows filmed in the US, the slightest bit of breast or bum was covered by the electronic blurr, but on the shows shot in England, no such censorship existed. One episode even had a young English mum bending over to her kids with the V of her bright red V-string riding very high above her jeans. I got the feeling this would have never got to US screens! And she was well built to be wearing a G ! |

We are so uptight about our bodies here. Wtih everthing that gets blurred I don' t know why they give it an M. Maybe because the word snogging so much. |

I can't ever remember an incident were something as harmless as someones butt in a thong was censored. Speaking of which there was a program on TV tonight which showed a woman complete topless this was at about 20:40 she was having her breast implants removed.

This is on one of the big three networks (NBC ABC CBS) though, so that is not surprising. NYPD blue and a new show called Nip/Tuck are the only shows on them that I can recall that show nudity, the buttocks and breasts on NYPD and a sequence on Nip/Tuck in which things were blurred stylistically with forced focus (focused on one characted while another was nude) or simply panned quickly.
On basic cable many shows have the buttocks and thongs without problemsm, with both sexes. |

Where there are girls topless in the villa or any of the people completely nude nothing is blured. you sometimes get this type of shot when they are around the pool late at night. I remember one episode where one of the guys was nude round the villa most of the time. |

Re：Thongs on UK television Date Posted：06/26/2005 10:35:27Copy HTML Cable and satellite sometimes show US shows with blurring and pixellating of body parts. My wife gets really annoyed and turns the offending programme off as soon as they do that as not worth being serious, or entertaining.
UK programmes are fine. I've seen bare breasts and bottoms on the TV in the afternoon on holiday type programmes and even some films e.g. Logans Run is never censored when shown as an afternoon matinee. I'm so glad we have a more mature attitude to semi-nudity than America. |

It's sad, but it will probably take a generation before this changes and the young people are in power because none of us care about swearing, nudity. We were all raised on Sex and the City and the Sopranos so gratuitous nudity and constant swearing just seem normal.
However, on cable no one cares about thongs. I just watched a program on the Discovery Channel the other day about Brazil that was rated G, which means acceptable for all audiences, and there was tons of thong shots. |
