My wife and I received an invite from a older lady at our church.  She is really a wonderfull person and My wife has a special connection with her.  She asked us over for  pool party and BBQ.  I was contemplating what to wear since all of my bathing suits are thongs and G strings.  We are catholic BTW , not that it matters, but wearing my usual outfit would not fly.  Pittsburgh is very conservative when it comes to swimwear and Very anti thong, 80% board shorts and 15% speedo any where in public.
So i bought a Nike brand speedo red and black racing brief at TJ MAXX for $7 bucks.

I have several rio and square cut suits from Skinzwear and Gregg Homme. Some are sheer when wet and one even has laser-cut holes everywhere except the areas covering the package and butt crack.....very cool.

I have VERY few options when it comes to true swimsuits (I'm talking true full backed suits)  that are not thongs. I own 4 suits that I consider full backed,

1: A pale yellow 'Kiniki' trunk with 1 inch sides, it's pretty sheer when dry, not worth wearing when wet!!!!
2: An 'Asics' raceing swim trunk, unlined and again with 1 inch sides, the back is a little briefer than the above Kiniki trunk and it is even more sheer, if that is possible.
3 & 4: These two suits are what I would call my go to swimwear when I can't wear a thong or G, they are both 'Koala' orgasm bikinis, 1 in black, 1in blue snake skin. A little pouch fronted for most people's tastes but as they are the only non-sheer full backed suits I own they are my 'go to' attire when I need full coverage.

I just ordered a Muscleskins classic with a 'lean' seat, which is about rio-cut.
I ordered a narrow pouch and 1/2" straps in matte black.
I think this suit gives just enough coverage when a thong or g-string is not possible.
It's my first non-thong from MS, I am curious about the fit and coverage!

2" side camo mesh bikini from buffedbod.com, with a camo mesh Freeform (sock jock) underneath for bulge control.  The camo design goes well with my tanned skin tones, I'll wear this anywhere, with pride.

I wear a rio back bikini.  I posted a picture of a yellow bikini in the "bikini" section of my images. The yellow material is unlined. It really does not hide much, but it is definitely not a thong.

Navythong, I'd be interested in your take on your new Muscleskins Classic with "lean" seat.  I have exactly the same thing but with 3/8" sides and "athletic" back, but I'm not using it as a substitute for my regular Speedo because the Muscleskins is cut so low in front it might as well be a thong.  It's comfortable, but pointless.  If I am comfortable wearing a suit that low, I can wear a thong.  If I'm not comfortable wearing a thong, I need my bikini suit to go higher in front (and also in back).  The "athletic" back on the Muscleskins is "okay" but I think I would have ordered the full back if I could do it over again, because the "athletic" back would secretly like to be a thong on me - your "lean" back is going to be smaller yet.  If you have the same concerns, maybe you can contact Jupiter before it's too late and tell him to change your order before he sews it.

Hi facelessdrone,

I agree the MS suits are all rather low cut. I'm used to the Posers in narrow cut, which I like very much.
Compared to the posers the classic should be quite a bit higher.
It will certainly not look like a speedo, and that's what I like. Just not a thong, but still as small as possible.
I hesitated between 1/2" and 3/4" sides, and ordered 1/2" because the suits looks just better in 1/2".
I had a few DORE's moderate cut bikini's with comparable seats like Muscleskins 'lean' and a wore it for years aand years just when taking a dip.
The DORE's were a bit higher in the front, but I think I will like the Muscleskins.
I will  let you know how its fits when the suit has arrived!

If I think I can't go about in a string I have two main options. One is a micro tanga, just two wee triangles connected by strings around my hips. That the front triangle will hold the goodies surprises me to this day; the back triangle covers perhaps 1/8th of my rear end. So this suit is just a tiny step back from a thong or g-string. My other option is a diminutive version of a speedo, only a bit more moderate again than the tanga.Of course, one doesn't know what other people really think, but wearing these has kept me free of negative comments but the same holds true for wearing g-strings. I'm afraid that mostly it's been me chickening out of wearing a thong or string without good reason. Luckily leaving plenty of occasions when I did.

When I'm out around our house I usually wear a small square cut suit from skinz. I wear a thong underneath, and it's see through so anyone that walks over to speak would be able to tell I am wearing a thong. If I'm in the back yard I don't usually cover up at all, as we have a privacy fence.

My conservative suits are a fleet of tan thru print mesh suits I've acquired over the years with designs you could call square cut, swim trunk,  boyshort and bikinis.  They allow me a day or two without getting a tanline.  I have a few string bikinis in spandex mesh too that must be spf 15 to30 that don't cause a line with higher sunblock applied.  I have some cheeky boxer style too that show some cheek.  Nothing would be mistaken for average guy swimwear! Not to leave my exhibitionist streak behind some of my suits have "prominent" pouches that still get attention and evenly tan, ah  every-thing.

When I can't wear a thong to a beach I am usually sporting a Skinzwear Sun Seeker Rio, or Rio, or I will pull on a pouch enhanced mini cheek suit or an enhanced Rio for one of a number of different companies. For the more "family" environment I will wear a pouch enhanced mini square cut or brief. For doing laps at the gym I wear a N2N enhancement bikini.

Hi RapidBlue,
The Skinz Sunseeker Rio I like very much. It's a pity Skinz has such high shipping rates outside the USA.
Shipping costs are almost the same as a suit. So if I order one suits it will cost me $57,00!
If the shipping rates were more like Muscleskins', I would absolutely order one or two of those.
They look fantastic and Skinz' fabrics and fit very well.

Still have a couple of defunct Alphamoda Skyros (unlined 25mm side Brazil back) for laps, washing the car and warm weather cycling. For the surf, a Waveline bikini (25mm side, fuller bottom with a drawstring). Both were about half the price of a similar Skinz (my g-string supplier) item by the time they reach Australia.

Parr of Arizona,  later NuParr, Tie Nada.  A classic inverted triangle string bikini.  Size small fits anybody due to the tie side strings.  Thin lycra clings especially when wet.  Doesn't cover much but it does cover everything that needs to be covered.

For non-thong locations, such as my lap-swimming Y' pool, I like the Sporti Euro Brief from www.SwimOutlet.com.  This is a racer swim brief pared down to bikini proportions.  "Sporti" is their own brand name, and I find the prices good and quality very good.

If I'm at a scene where I can't be showing too much, I'll wear a minimal bikini, like my Marcuse, or as last resort, a Speedo with 1'' sides.

The skinz sunseeker should be ok at most places that don't allow thongs. Even though it is supposedly small, I've changed in to it from a thong and the complaint was no longer an issue. It is still quite a lot more coverage than a thong suit and matches what most females are wearing as standard bikinis, Just my two cents

Being a regular lap swimmer I have a few options.
I have Waveline 1" bikinis in a variety of colours. I also have Budgy Smugglers, and AussieBums. I wear any of these to swim laps, or if I need something with a drawstring waist (for the surf etc)
More often than not, if a thong is not an option, I have a JS bikini and several Skinzwear 1" and 1/2" bikinis, all with narrower backs than the ones mentioned above. I prefer to opt for these when I have to, and will also use them as a cover-up over a thong.

Had the chance to wear my black Budgy Smuggler at the beach this week, for the very first time.  I'm really happy with it,  it is very well made, good quality suit.

Went to the Peninsula back beaches with my brother in law his kids and mine.  I was the only one on the whole beach wearing a speedo type suit, and man I reckon I was the highlight of the whole beach.

I can't believe a  pair of conventional 5 cm speedo on a guy has become almost  an issue to be published on the news..... It might help that I am in good shape, but honestly it's the suit.....or the combination of both. Plenty of young muscular guys with their girlfriends or wives, all looking the same, long board shorts and plenty of ink.   Can't believe they are so afraid of looking any different to each other. And yes, the chicks gave me plenty of eye, to the good old middle age ink free speedo wearing guy.

My brother in law used to wear speedos all the time, but this time he wore a rash guard and board shorts. When he took his top off to dry off and go back home I understood why: He is a tall big guy, but now his lifestyle has given him a huge belly that looks very unflattering. I feel for him. At his age it could be a time bomb.

Anyways, I'm very happy with Budgy Smuggler quality, the same as Thongmad. I also own a few Aussiebums, which are a bit less conservative than Budgy Smuggler.  I would wear them next time I can't wear a thong.

How do you guys position when wearing speedo type suits?   I feel that speedo type suits tend to squash me, therefore the 12:30 position doesn't feel or look good.  The one that works for me is the 9:15 horizontal position.  It keeps the tall man at its normal length and it doesn't become minimized. Very comfy.

John Howard, I know you enjoyed your trip to the beach but your story was kind of depressing for me living in the cold winter in the USA.  I was imagining the beach culture of Australia, the warm sun, the freedom, etc.  I was also thinking that your country invented the speedo, so no one cared if you wore speedos at the beach.  Instead, you write that everyone wears board shorts and that no one was in a speedo.  It's depressing to think that even Australia has become so "Americanized" that everyone is in board shorts.  :(

Joshpr16, in regard to your post to John Howard about Australia, I experienced Australia many many years ago.  I spent a week on Bondi Beach and saw the tiniest bikinis being worn.  This was the norm and not the exception!   Every guy was wearing very tiny bikinis.   This was before many guys in the U.S. wore them.   I bought several nylon floral bikinis at the beach-side shops.   I loved wearing them and not feeling the least bit out of place. I wasn't out of place at all.   It was just what you wore.   Loved it so much that I returned to Bondi Beach on another vacation.  Back in the day, if you wanted to see and wear skimpy swimwear, Australia was the place to go, along with the French Riviera, Brazil, and even Waikiki Beach.  I don't know when skimpy swimwear will be the norm again.  Maybe never.  One can only wish!

This last season in Mexico I wore some 1" split shorts over my thong. It was a good combo. I stripped-off the shorts once I was past anyone and left them with my flip-flops and towel. I'd have my morning jog of down a mile and a half, and back. I had a rio bikini along too from SWIC thongs and it's a nice alternative if I can't park any stuff. It has an abstract pattern that's opaque until wet, and then between that and being stuck to me like paint makes the thong more modest.

If I don't wear a thong I'm usually wearing a super small, clingy, unlined, N2N bikini with a "pouch-style" front. Its a sexy little number and is almost as brief in the front as one of Beach N Dance push-out pouch thongs. Sadly, they no longer make them and its one of the best made, best fitting suits I have.  I also have a very small Skinzwear squarecut in their thinskinz fabric.

Yes, N2N has some nice stuff. I have a suit they call "Daredevil" which is an overstatement. It covers my entire rear end, and has a very brief but complete pouch that is attached with a very small string. From the front it looks like a g-string.

for me, whenever i cant wear just a thong, i will always still wear one, but just put layers on top of it. which vary depending on what situation, swimming laps, i wear a seamless thong with brief over the top, so dont show too much visible thong line.
at a beach bar, or adult pool in a hotel where im up and around socialising i tend to wear a pair of thin lycra short boxers, and sometimes deliberately wear a thong which will show a clear outline.

My go to swimsuit when I can't wear a g-string is a small thong.

If think I would be uncomfortable in a small thong I wear a larger thong with a more traditional bikini cut front.
Going up from that would be a very cheeky swimsuit, almost a thong,

But if I can't wear a cheeky swimsuit I don't normally reach for a bikini,
because I don't think the diagonal rear edge is very flattering on my old bottom.
Getting the right fit to the back of a bikini swimsuit is difficult, especially if you no longer have a good round ass.

So at that point I go for a narrow horizontal square cut rather than a traditional speedo bikini cut.
After that a wider horizontal square cut.

Last summer I wore my Muscleskins micro suit to the beach for the first time.
It has a 'lean' back and 1/2" sides; colour is matte black. I like the matta fabrics more then the shiny ones.

I tried it on at home first, before wearing it to the beach. It's fits really well and is rather comfy, but not as comfy as a MS poser thong.
The micro gives a way more 'dressed' feeling and look then the poser thong and is slightly less comfy then a thong.

The poser is still my absolute favourite, and I will only wear my micro when I think a thong is not appropriate.
To be honest I like the Skinz sunseeker rio more then the MS micro. The Skinz back is just a bit smaller and the pouch is somewhat narrower.
Om the other side the MS micro can be worn in more situations. Everything is just a bit more covered. Wearing a micro to a family beach I think is fine. To a family beach I would hesitate wearing a sunseeker rio.

But as said earlier Skinz' shipping rates to europe are absolutely ridiculous, it costs you an extra suit when ordering under $100!
For those few occasions, a thong is not appropriate, the micro is a very good alternative.
