I know this board is primarily about thong swimwear, but covers related smaller swimwear/garments as well. I own thong, bikini (Speedo), midcut, squarecut, and shorts for swimwear. Even though I have both a midcut and a squarecut, I'm not sure which is which.

Is the midcut the one with the very short, maybe 1 1/2 inch legs, or the one with no legs, that ends at a full coverage rear, like the regular bikini?

Looking on the internet has been of no use, because the terms seem to be used interchangeably. That can't be correct, because there is, or SHOULD be a defined difference, even if that difference is admittedly small.

Also, which is the correct spelling of each; is it "midcut" or "mid cut"? The same for squarecut, one word or two? I think that we all should want to know these things correctly so we don't look ignorant or stupid. (Maybe I'm the only one here who doesn't know?) Since we're promoting this smaller swimwear idea, we should also be the resident experts in this area. I look forward to input from the members of this board.

Re:What's the difference between a midcut and a squarecut man's swimsuit?

My Y' pool, where I'm usually the only one going speedo, is currently seeing a style called a "Sunga".  These are a Brazilian style somewhere between a speedo and a "square cut".   Square cut has no legs and a level cut at the bottom of the crotch.   Midcuts are usually like a jammers but shorter legs.  Manufacturers aren't completely uniform in their use of these names. Google responds to either of these names with or without a space.  You can click on "images" and see what is out there for sale.  My pool is cool with speedos including the "one inch" version, but not thongs.

I guess we could be heading for Sunga style becoming popular.  It is getting fairly well known that the Brazilian beach culture for guys is mainly based on the Sunga, so it will be cool, and for Americans very daring.

Might even make it to UK for the gym guys.

Ha!  Just this morning I get an email from MateGear touting their Square Cut swimsuits.

This was the link:  https://mategear.com/collections/swimwear-mini-without-lining-designer-mini-squarecuts

Not exactly what I would call a Square Cut, Although I do notice they actually call them a Mini Square Cut
