Re:Bird Island, NC (near Sunset Beach) Date Posted:07/02/2026 09:09:02Copy HTML Good news! Construction effectively finished! Yesterday they removed warning fences and signs. One interesting note, there's already a turtle nest in the new sand area. |

Re:Bird Island, NC (near Sunset Beach) Date Posted:07/04/2026 11:29:03Copy HTML Went to the pier at sunset beach and wore a muscleskins string thong. A Russian girl in an actual skinny thong back sat up right in front of me. A group of Boston accent young women sat up behind me. It was great day. |

Re:Bird Island, NC (near Sunset Beach) Date Posted:07/06/2026 03:46:33Copy HTML Hi Reznor7,
Curious how far down from the pier you were, Its always been a bit crowded in the immediate area of the pier and didn't want to cause any issues so I have gone down past the mailbox to thong in a little more peacefull area. Hope it's becoming accepted for guys on the main beach area. |

Re:Bird Island, NC (near Sunset Beach) Date Posted:07/06/2026 03:52:23Copy HTML I was right next to the pier. I saw about 5-6 other thongs from my spot as I was looking around. |

Re:Bird Island, NC (near Sunset Beach) Date Posted:07/07/2026 11:52:24Copy HTML I agree that pier area Is too crowded. I usually try to walk down to about 38th or 36th St. where it tends to thin out. I’ve been doing that for ever since Sunset Beach modified their city ordinances that allows thongs within city limits! From there I walk up to the pier or down to the jetty to get out and about. Been there only a couple times this year so far but will go a couple more times the second week of August. Looking forward to that. |

Re:Bird Island, NC (near Sunset Beach) Date Posted:07/08/2026 12:39:52Copy HTML It was pretty empty around the 4th, way out past the Mailbox. The landscaping crew seems to have finished, so the project seems done and traffic out there is minimal. Because of the way the new pile of sand is configured, there may be less traffic from the boat people. |

Re:Bird Island, NC (near Sunset Beach) Date Posted:07/27/2026 11:30:36Copy HTML Was out today (Monday). Lots of walkers and people down by the jetty from 11-1pm, after that pretty empty. I was the only one out there. Walking back around 5pm, I did see one gentlemen making his way down there in a t-shirt and a thong. Spectacular weather, thought there would be others out there. |

Re:Bird Island, NC (near Sunset Beach) Date Posted:07/28/2026 12:50:01Copy HTML I too noticed that the west end can be pretty empty. The reconfiguration of the dunes by the jetty also seems to discourage boat people from coming over. Last week when I was down the weather was not really pleasant for a lot of the time.
Given the time of day, you may have seen Tbarky or another regular walker who isn't on the board that Í chat with when he is out. |

Re:Bird Island, NC (near Sunset Beach) Date Posted:08/17/2026 07:14:22Copy HTML That's quite a cliff where the beach ends at the jetty! It just goes to show that man with his mighty machines cannot pack sand as tight as nature does. The ocean just washed it away. The engineers didn't "sea" that coming! |

Re:Bird Island, NC (near Sunset Beach) Date Posted:08/17/2026 07:54:02Copy HTML Since I live nearby I am out on Sunset and Bird Islands often. It doesn't matter if I'm wearing a thong that can be seen on my rear or the ones that have clear straps, I turn around often as I walk so that others can see I'm covered in front. Regardless, these prudes call the police and tell them there is a naked man on the beach. This happens on a regular basis. Police drive down the beach and just ask if I have been naked. One time this prude was on his phone next to me telling 911 that he is looking at a man with nothing on. I even yelled several times, "Quit lying!" He had the nerve to take a picture of me wearing a thong and texted it to them, which actually vindicated me. He followed me to my car and threatened me! Then he followed my car right into the police station parking lot. When he realized there are cameras there and where he was, he left. These people just hate to see us in thongs and will lie to the police! I've been threatened by others, as well. I'm a small man but I know some moves. "The children!" It's a butt, not my private parts. Kids have seen their own butts and probably their siblings' butts and maybe their parents' butts. They're just butts. Nudists in Europe say, "If you don't want to see it, don't look." That's what I have told people, or just don't come here. Go to SC beaches where your eyes are safe. |

Re:Bird Island, NC (near Sunset Beach) Date Posted:08/17/2026 08:07:23Copy HTML When the police get tired of this they'll be calling him back with a bench warrant! There are laws against lying to the police and against lying to send a police response! He'll be calling his "children" to bail him out of jail! |

Re:Bird Island, NC (near Sunset Beach) Date Posted:08/18/2026 12:11:06Copy HTML This is why I spend more days thonging in FL than on Bird Island even though I live only 15 minutes away from the latter. Some 20 years ago I was just laying on my blanket face up in a gstring and a guy walking with his family about 30 ft away pulled out a mini-sword and yelled for me to to stay away from his family, lol. This area is too much bible-belt so there's a lot of intolerance and thongs on guys is considered heretical by many. |

Re:Bird Island, NC (near Sunset Beach) Date Posted:08/18/2026 11:56:06Copy HTML I know that some police dispatchers will ask "Is he only wearing a thong or g-string?" as if a little shocked.
If the caller answers "Yes", thinking the dispatcher is on their side, (Thinking thongs or g are illegal), they are told that's legal and often don't dispatch an officer. |

Re:Bird Island, NC (near Sunset Beach) Date Posted:08/18/2026 04:26:48Copy HTML Since there are probably less than 4 men in thongs on beaches in NC any summer day I doubt any police dispatcher will ask about a thong. In Miami - yes they would of course! |

Re:Bird Island, NC (near Sunset Beach) Date Posted:08/20/2026 02:58:09Copy HTML Since it is more acceptable for women to wear thongs than men, I now have empathy with women who would like to go topless everywhere just like men! I want to ask the dispatch manager if they bother to ask if the caller has seen the front side or more specifically did they see genitals. I tried to get a Sunset officer to ask that but he didn't care. I don't know how to call the dispatch manager without calling 911. |

Re:Bird Island, NC (near Sunset Beach) Date Posted:08/20/2026 03:29:35Copy HTML Tbarky, to contact the 911 dispatch, you could call the Brunswick County Sheriff's non-emergency number. But, please don't. It you make a big deal out of it , the county commissioners could (and would ) spoil it for everyone. The Chief of the Sunset Beach has made it abundantly clear that thongs are legal and that he doesn't want his folks to be butt police. If the country gets involved, they may do something stupid like ban thongs for everyone in the county, like in Horry County, and Chief Klammar would be forced to enforce. Leave it alone, and if an idiot calls the law on you, let the officer educate the other party as to legality of thongs. One thing that would help is to wear bright colored thong or G, so from a distance you appear not to be totally nude. |

Re:Bird Island, NC (near Sunset Beach) Date Posted:09/02/2026 08:59:53Copy HTML Was able to spend a few hours at BI Monday and today after a year away. Beautiful weather, not many walkers. Didn’t see anyone else. Missing the days when I’d see lots of folks this time of year. |

Re:Bird Island, NC (near Sunset Beach) Date Posted:09/03/2026 03:00:12Copy HTML You must have been sitting halfway between Mailbox and jetty. Monday we had guests so I only had a bike push in the AM. Tuesday, the guests left, but because tide was high, we setup just past the last pole. I went for a long walk in my thong, out past the jetty. I did see someone up by the dunes. I actually thought it was Painter. |

Re:Bird Island, NC (near Sunset Beach) Date Posted:09/05/2026 11:59:15Copy HTML Martylouie, Thanks! I don't plan on calling the sheriff's office about it. All I wanted was for someone to instruct the 911 folks to just ask a couple more questions of the callers to prevent sending officers. On the time that guy lied to dispatch, the officer was not sent after the guy sent a picture of me wearing a thong. I called and spoke with the officer by phone. But when I asked why they let callers lie to police, he said there is nothing they can do. I looked it up and it certainly is illegal and is a misdemeanor. Here I am legally covered and the caller commits a crime and they do nothing. |

Re:Bird Island, NC (near Sunset Beach) Date Posted:09/18/2026 12:47:00Copy HTML Great Day at Bird Island Talked to Painter and another guy for a bit. All three in thongs. It's funny, since Sunset Beach normalized thongs, you will mostly see ladies in thongs on Sunset Beach proper or coming by boat/jet ski along the inlet, very few make the trek out to the mailbox. |

Re:Bird Island, NC (near Sunset Beach) Date Posted:09/26/2026 04:23:24Copy HTML It was 70 degrees late Friday just before sunset, and the tide was all the way up to the dunes. The almost full moon was behind clouds but lit up the beach enough to see well. I had a nice thong hike down to the mailbox. No bugs! Why did Sunset Beach only remove buttocks exposure from statute 95.16 but never changed statute 130.07? I've never understood why they apply the same law in 2 statutes. I've been watching/waiting 3 years for the change. Is this their fall back should they decide to change it back someday? https://library.municode.com/nc/sunset_beach/codes/code_of_ordinances?nodeId=PTIICOOR_CH130GEOF_S130.07PUNU |
