Bringing this thread back to life. Spent this afternoon on the beach between the Mailbox and the jetty. I spent a little time nude, and walked a lot in my HIS bikini. On my way out here I think I saw a girl laying out between 37th and 40th in a Thong (maybe cheeky, just a lot of rump). After I set up in our usual spot, a guy set up past me and got down to a gold G string. A little while latter a blonde girl with a black thong walks past me heading to the jetty with her board shorted friend where they have a photo shoot I actually was walking that way and I think they were college kids on spring break. Hopefully that is a good beginning for the 2019 season

Was out at BI today for a few hours in the afternoon. Weather was terrific, breezy but warm. Unfortunately I was the only one out there today. Lots of foot traffic even in the afternoon with Spring break in full effect. Many walking close to the dunes looking for shells. Looking forward to going again tomorrow!

Just a warning. If you park on Main St. make sure your vehicle is completely off of the pavement. Sunset Beach PD is enforcing the rules about blocking the bike paths now that the new sidewalk is in. Painter what time were you there? I too a ride out about 4 pm

Glorious weather at BI today. Light south breeze, big sun, simply perfect. Far less foot traffic today and low tide was later in the day so lots of beach. Enjoyed a good book and sun on my buns!

Painter, I saw you just as you got there. I was peddling by and called out, but you were heading behind the dunes and I had to get off the beach and head to RDU to pick up my son. It looked like a great beach day. I may not get one for a couple of months the way my work is going.

Was out at BI today. Warm, lots of sun, really breezy in the afternoon. Much lighter foot traffic today too. Got to meet MartyLouie and saw one other gentleman wearing a blue thong very well. A couple of guys in between- one in a speedo, the other in short trunks. Really good to have others out there. A great day at BI... and it’s still only April!

It turned out to be a great day. When I arrived just after 10 am, it was cloudy but warm with a very slight breeze. The bugs were an issue for a short while until the wind picked up and the sun came out around noon. I wore a yellow Joe Snyder bulge thong and spent some time in the water which was just the right temperature to cool off every so often. Among the other folks out on the beach, one gentleman who was there before me seemed to be off walking more than he was in his chair but when he was back at his spot, I think he took off his shorts. He walked past me at one point after lunch and asked where I got my suit. I’m not sure if he was really interested in how he could get a suit like mine or if he just wanted to get a closer look. I suspect the latter because that was the extent of our conversation. I also met a nice couple from High Point who were set up next to me, she was wearing what looked like a sheer Wicked Weasel style suit which was a light tan, almost nude color, with a Brazilian back and he was in shorts. They both went nude later on in the day. They apparently have been coming to Bird Island for years, he was very knowledgeable about the evolution of the preserve. The only other guy in a thong showed up mid afternoon in a black Gstring and set up fairly close to me. I had just come out of the water and was drying off and starting to pack up my things when he approached and told me it was his first time wearing a thong in public. I could tell, he seemed pretty uneasy and I probably didn’t come off as very friendly because I was trying to gather my things and head home. Hopefully I can make it back many more times this summer!

I bet the couple from High Point had bicycles, a blue sport umbrella and chairs. They have been coming to Bird Island for years, but very rarely in the summer. I am so jealous because I can’t come down for several weeks.

How is the thong/nude activity out there either on Thursdays or fridays? May be making a trip up there for a day. Maybe stay overnight at a no-tell motel.

I am I am also assuming that the foot traffic is quite light during the week

Thursday and Fridays until school is out will have fewer walkers, boaters and people laying out because most people work Monday through Friday. There are exceptions. For example me. Last couple of months I have had a lot of weekends of work. Last year a guy used to come down on Thursday because it was his day off. So if you want peace, quiet and privacy the weekdays are better. If you want lots of company, weekends are for you. Things tend to even out when school is out.

Near perfect day at BI today. Falling tide, gentle breeze, warm sun and even the water is warming up. There were a couple of guys in thongs and one woman going topless. One guy and the women left early, so the beach was pretty much empty for me and one other chill guy. Was able to walk a fair distance without any foot traffic. Can’t wait to have a day like this again!

Nudity is not legal on any or the beaches here in NC. Topless, thongs, and g-strings are legal at Bird Island as well as other beaches and parks, but not at Sunset Beach.

Yeah, they made 1 pass when i first got there, then came down only as far as the .mailbox and turned around. Apparently they will make 2 trips a day out there for the season, but have no jurisdiction. We are bouncing to nude beaches along the east coast and maybe over to lido key

Where is everyone? It has been beautiful out on the Bird so far this Memorial Day Weekend. One male thonger out there. I did see a couple of ladies in cheeky suits and even 2 in what I would call true thongs ( but they probably wouldn’t nowadays)
Martylouie #281

Re:Bird Island, NC (near Sunset Beach)

Date Posted:05/27/2019 09:24:32Copy HTML

Sunday afternoon on Bird Island was great. Aside from a cluster of  people near the big bush between the mailbox and the jetty it was pretty empty in the afternoon. Only one true thong sighting on a female who was set up with her guy past the cluster. There was one other girl in a very cheeky who walked past me from the boat show on the inlet to get to the mailbox who must have thought she was hot stuff, until she saw the gal in the true thong.

I moved down back to my normal spot which I had passed up in the morning because of all the mailbox traffic. There was a single older lady going topless near there so I asked if she would mind if I moved and would she mind if I went nude. Turns out I had met her years ago. So I set up about 10 yards away and spent several hours nude, as did she. Though she was more blatant about it, which made me more comfortable.

Today was not good, my wife and I went to the same spot in the morning and spent only a few hours out there, instead of the whole day. The flies were terrible!

After my wife left and I packed up, I talked with one of the beach patrol who was having his lunch in his vehicle in front of the Mailbox. Among other things we talked about was that they got a memo to restrict “cheeky suits “ on Sunset Beach. In his words What the hell is A cheeky suit?”  He wasn’t going to worry about it unless someone complained. (I did not bring up the thought that a guy could wear one).

We also chatted about Bird Island being State governed and outside of the town’s ETJ for code enforcement. They are only coming out for health and safety checks and carry water for people too dumb not to.  As a matter of fact on my way out this morning they had somebody who had to be rescued from in front of the mailbox because of the heat.

Strange day at BI today.  Windy and tide was very low.  Foot traffic was intermittent and fairly light.  I was the only thonger out there for a while until one guy walked out and set up quite close to me.  He did not thong or go nude, but stayed in board shorts.  Wind eventually sent me home early.  Hopefully I can get out Tuesday or Wednesday next week.

If you can find a spot, you can park at the 40th street crossover at the end of West Main. After you hit the beach, turn right and walk @ 1/2 mile west to the start of the reserve. You should see 2 signs facing each other, one says keep off the dunes the other is the Bird Island Coastal Reserve sign. Both are becoming a bit obscured because of the growth of the dunes. While you could legally thong there, I would not, because of the proximity to Sunset. Go at least a couple of hundred yards past and you should be fine to thong, plus the beach is prettier. Not only are thongs legal on the reserve, but so is top freedom. If you want to skip the suits altogether, go about a mile further, go past the mailbox about 50 yards and you may find people going nude with care.

I haven’t a clue as to a Street address. If you use google earth and zoom in on the intersection of 40th and West Main it may give you an address.

Looks like 1398/1401 W Main Street will put you at the 40th street crossover.

I never can park that close but there is a crossover every block. As pointed out before remember to park entirely off of the pavement as they will ticket!

Enjoy,

I prefer to park near the main entrance and rent a bike for the day from Julies Rentals. Just need to check the times of high tide and know that within 90 minutes of high tide biking can be difficult. But a 10-15 minute bike ride sure beats a 30-45 minute walk, especially if a thunderstorm pops up and you need to leave quick.

I got there around 2:00 or so. Yesterday turned out to be a pretty good day. The wind was from the NW so there were the occasional flies but bug spray helped that. Otherwise, the weather was great. I was by myself until time to leave when another guy showed up in board shorts. We talked for while. It was his first time on BI and was wondering about getting nude. There were the walkers and bike riders thoughout the afternoon which inhibited long spans of dropping shorts.

Does anyone remember how footbtraffic was at BI the last couple of years for the 4th of July? I am assuming it would be kinda busy everywhere, much like it is in Charleston.
Martylouie #296

Re:Bird Island, NC (near Sunset Beach)

Date Posted:06/28/2019 12:41:12Copy HTML

Foot traffic around the 4th is usually fairly high especially from the boat people coming over to swim in the ocean. Memorial Day Saturday was a bit odd. Some walkers but the boat people stayed on the inlet, even though it looked like a boat show from behind the dunes. People are off work , so they go to the beach. If you are going to thong, just do it and don’t worry.

I’ve been to Bird Island three times on a crowded holiday week. I always walk from the pier ( a 3 mile ? walk) and when it’s that crowded, I wear  a square cut suit or short shorts as a cover up.

I’ve found the holiday crowds to be pretty disdainful (but not hostile) of minimal swimwear on men. Well, the last time it was Memorial Day week last year. More crowded than I had ever seen.

I had a what-the-hell moment, and wore a skinny side strap rio bikini with a full size pouch. I got some positive and negative looks but most people were too busy to notice or care. I had a nice time when I got to bird Island. There were a few potential gawkers set up near the mailbox which doesn’t bother me at all. On the way back, I took the first beach access back to the road and walked on the streets back to the pier. I definitely got some surprised looks and greetings but don’t remember any negative.

Friday afternoon was beautiful on BI. It was sunny and a nice breeze from the south to keep the flies away. The water was warm and the sand was hot. There were minimal walkers. Most of the time, no one was around. I was the only person sitting between the mailbox and jetty. High tide was late in the afternoon. I was there from noon till 6 pm, and waited for the tide to recede, so I did not have to push my bike. To CHSnudist: Parking could be an issue around the 4th of July, depending on your ETA. In previous years, the attendant at the fishing pier lot (paid parking) told me that they had to close the lot throughout the day because there were no available parking spaces. The week of the 4th of July is the busiest for tourism.

If it makes any difference I plan to be out there around the holiday. I haven’t been to the beach in a while and I am suffering withdrawal. Btw, did anybody come across a canon point and shoot camera out there in the last couple of weeks? The zipper on my backpack failed and it dropped out.
