NC is still on lockdown until May 8. The Town of Sunset Beach hasn’t opened up beach access yet, and there is restricted parking on the island. The Bird Island Reserve is closed by the state. There is one possibility to use a bit of the Island, the tip where the jetty is located is in South Carolina, so if you had a boat, you could get there.

Monday 4 May at 4:00 the Town Council is scheduled to meet and it is the lead item on the agenda. A lot will depend on what Gov. Cooper will do. My guess is that they will open beach accesses, but limit public parking. According to the state there have been ZERO cases in the 28468 zip code. May The Fourth Be With You!

Sunset Beach is opening up to many activities on Wednesday, however, no sitting/sunning and no towels. There is no public parking and the restrooms are closed. Bird Island is Closed. How and who will enforce it I don’t know. I may go down this weekend

Yes, but that is subject to change. Also I emailed the folks at NC DEQ office in Wilmington and it seemed to me that they weren’t even sure they knew where Bird Island was.

Great news. Bird Island will officially reopen today @5:00 pm. However, Sunset Beach still has many restrictions until 5/15 including no chairs on the beach, one way walkways , and no public parking on the Island. The pier lot appears to be open @ $10.00 per day.

Spent the day out on Bird Island. We were the only ones set up between the mailbox and the jetty. A few people sat on the rocks, but very few bikinis. Mine was close to the skimpiest, and for sure the only one on a male. The inlet side was a little busier. There were a lot of wAlkers, joggers and bikers.

Bird Island opened last week. Sunset Beach opened up yesterday. There are no rentals yet, but you can park and sun. The only caveats are that you must social distance and because it had been closed down, there were lots of walkers

Yesterday was a beautiful day on Bird Island. There were quite a few walkers both from Sunset Beach as well as boaters. I went in the afternoon approaching high tide and by that time, there were very few folks coming by. There were 'opportunities' to use less clothing...

I finally made it out to Bird Island Friday it was a beautiful day. All the parking spots at 40th crossover were full so I had to park in the main lot. Not a lot of people down at bird island while I was there. Got plenty of nude time in while I was there.I setup right below the mailbox walked the beach in my Joe Synder sock it g-string for a while.Walked up to the mailbox a few times nude. I'd love to have gotten to stay the whole day but the wife called and cut my time there a little short. Hoping to get back there again tomorrow. We're in North Myrtle several times a year and I'll definitely be making the 25 min trip to Bird Island a day or two when we're here. I posted a few pics in my album from Friday.

I spent late Monday afternoon during high tide at Bird Island. Beach between the mailbox and the jetty had few walkers; so, I was nude most of the time. Lovely!!

Thinking about doing Bird island this weekend. I have a new drone that I want to bring with me, but will only fly it before other thongers/nudists get there Marty, What prediction can you give me for a Saturday up there? When is high tide this weekend?

MartyLouie After some research, I found out the day for Saturday seems good, aside from low tide beang at about 2pm or something. Plus it being a holiday weekend. Might be too much foot traffic this weekend since combining low tide at mid day. Plus west winds. What do you think?

CHS, you missed an almost perfect day today, the only problem was too many walkers and bikers. Only saw 1 thong, that was on a young lady that set up near us (later she was TNT) and one thin rio on a boat person walking her dog to the mailbox. Only 3 guys in bikinis. 1 more guy walking past me dropped his shorts and was either in his underwear or a white bikini. Looking forward to today

To me, a perfect day is barely any walkers even near high tide. I see there will be alot of windy today apparently. Not even sure we will go to our local beach here.

We were out yesterday and the weather was really nice. We are going out again today and tomorrow. My wife wasn’t up for a long walk so we set up past the relocated Bird Island sign. They moved it a considerable distance closer to the last beach access. Is this because the state purchased that land from the developer that I saw posted here a while back?

Yes. That 35 new acres are still in town limits however and are subject to town rules, so I am told. I should be out there tomorrow, but I usually set up past the mailbox. PM me for more information.

I am in Myrtle Beach again hitting the sands in my bikinis. However I think Sunday and Monday I will be up to Bird “Sanctuary” to set up in my thongs. I will be set up well before the mailbox and will walk down to the jetty a few times to even out my tan. Say hello if you are out there.

Tuesday afternoon was a nice weather day on BI. Although there was a breeze, I swatted a few green head flies. For most of the afternoon, it was low tide. The beach was wide, therefore there were walkers and bikers all the time. I sat most of the time with a book. A couple of the regulars were there and it was nice to talk with them. On Sunset Beach, there was the typical summer day crowd. The crossover at 40th St is one direction from the street to the beach. On the return trip, I rode my bike up to the fishing pier and went to Main St via the gazebo.

Nice day at BI yesterday. Very few walkers from 11-1 and tide was out so beach was wide. Saw Martylouie near the end of my day. There were two others out there for a short period of time-one set up in shorts and the other in a speedo. Strange they left after only a short while because it was so nice out. Can’t wait to go next week.

Good late afternoon at Bird Island Friday. Martylouie was leaving as I arrived. Few walkers, mostly overcast, refreshing breeze. NOTE: Don't go "wrong way" on a "one-way" crosswalk to Sunset Beach! Even numbered crosswalks are marked for beach Entrance; Odd numered crosswalks marked are for Exit.

Marty, what's the rules on masks at Sunset right now? Mandatory for anywhere in public? Also wonder when high tide is on Friday and Saturday. Weather doesn't seem to be too hot either. I cant find a report on wind for those 2 days.

I like this website for making weather decisions. The date defaults to today, but you can select another date at the top of the page. https://tides4fishing.com/us/north-carolina/sunset-beach I was there one day last week. One other guy was already there, when I got there around lunch time. An hour after I arrived, I was the only person sitting between the mailbox and jetty for the rest of the afternoon. There was a strong wind coming off the ocean, so there were no bugs. There were a few walkers. I did not see an ATV come down from Sunset Beach or see any tracks indicating that they had driven down earlier. Going to the beach, I passed several people returning from the beach, using the 40th St crossover. This is also an ADA crossover. The even numbered crossovers are for going to the beach. The odd numbered crossovers are for returning from the beach. I hope everyone has a great July 4th weekend.

The recommendation is to wear a mask if you can’t or won’t social distance. This weekend my plan is to wear it until I clear the crowd at 40th and beyond. After l settle in with my luck, someone will complain about my not wearing a mask, and not for not wearing clothes.

Re:Bird Island, NC (near Sunset Beach)

I was there yesterday for about an hour when a big thunderstorm moved in from the north. Without a bike I had to haul ass just to make it back alive without getting stuck by lightning. The closest bolt was a mile away when I took shelter in someone's carport as my car was still parked about a mile away. When I was there the closest bolt was 1/5th of a mile away. I cant believe how non-chalant everyone was in leaving the beach with the thunderstorm right over them. Lightning kills more people than hurricanes, floods and tornadoes combined, yet people think hiding under their beach tent is protection. If you count the time between the lightning flash and the sound of the thunder, every 5 seconds is 1 mile. Anything under 10 seconds (2 miles) and you're in significant danger of getting struck.

How far down (west from 40th) do you have to go now to be able to wear a thong ?
VariousThongs #441

Re:Bird Island, NC (near Sunset Beach)

Date Posted:07/14/2020 03:01:03Copy HTML

I’d recommend going past the bird island sign at a minimum. Probably a good idea to go past it quite a bit, at least past where you see any vehicle tracks. Most of the thonging crowd who doesn’t want to be bothered are down past the mailbox. There are beach patrols from Sunset Beach that ride down to the end of town property, sometimes they go past it a little ways but most of the time they turn around after the last trash can.
Martylouie #442

Re:Bird Island, NC (near Sunset Beach)

Date Posted:07/14/2020 01:34:01Copy HTML

The town limits are just past the last garbage can. If you are out of the town limits you should be safe from beach patrol hassles. About 35 acres of the reserve are now in town limits including that portion of the strand from 2 lots past the crossover to where the old reserve sign used to be. that portion of the beach may be part of the reserve, but it is also in town limits and subject to town rules. The beach patrol rarely goes out past the last garbage can to patrol this year. When I see them out past there it is usually due to responding to an emergency, helping out the turtle people, or giving themselves or the ATV's a rest(the ATV's air-cooled motors need a bit of speed to keep them cool). Like I said in another post, there has been more thonging in Sunset (mostly female) despite it being against ordinance than out past the mailbox where people have traditionally thonged. Hope to be out there starting Thursday- Sunday. Look for my new blue & white cabana

BI update: its been a while since I’ve been out here. Sunset Beach is packed and parking is at a premium. I was lucky to find a spot along Main. Many people are not abiding by the one way walkways to the beach. Currently I am the only one out here and foot traffic is moderate as mid tide continues to rise. Breeze is light off shore from the S despite forecasts for NNE. No flies, beautiful day!
