While I was the only person that I saw wearing a thong, no one seemed to notice or care. I felt very comfortable walking the beach and sunning in Skinz Bravura thongs. This was my second trip to Cancun and I will certainly return in the future!

Re：Cancun hotels and resorts Date Posted：12/12/2012 05:56:44Copy HTML I used my first beach thong in Cancun 15 years ago, I was very young so I was kind of shied and I was the only one doing it just by my self, locals were not use to see it so all kept on looking, I was at a families resort but still felt comfortable, no one seems to bother, the service at the beaches was great and I did all kind of water sports just wearing a thong. Few years later I went back and brought a collection of g-strings and thongs so I was able to wear a different pair each day by the pool and beach, there were just some topless girls with thongs mostly in the resort and I was the only man but no one seems to bother. I have no problem just wearing them all the way from the hotel room to the beach with nothing else and being around the hotel.

We have never been to a clothing optional resort and we were hoping that we wouldn't be overdressed. We are not nudists and prefer to wear our thongs/g-strings. Any info would help. Thanks

This is a Lifestyle resort so as long as you are comfortable with the Lifestyle, you will have a great time. You don't have to be swingers to enjoy, you just need to be comfortable being around lifestylers. You also need to be comfortable with the fact that others in the resort assume you are in the lifestyle and will approach you. How you "play" that is your deal!

We had a nice time walking around Playa Del Carmen and we thought there would be a few beach shops with some sexier womens and mens suits. We were both pretty disappointed. There was some stores with some nice ladies bikinis but not even any ladies thongs, let alone mens thong swimsuits. Good things we brought our own down.

I'm not saying it isn't there, I just don't remember where it was. The 3 thongs I bought were just the standard design - nothing special, but they were really cheap. I've worn them on 4-5 vacations since I bought them.

We haven't been there since 2001, but went 1-2 times a year thru the 90's It was a changing scene every year. Coco beach went from totally nude to mini bikinis & g-strings to full speedo by 2001. The Blue Parrot went from G-srings at lunch to shorts, only Shangrila stayed pretty much the same at it beach bar, G-strings and topless. |

Same with Playa Del Carmen. You shouldn't have any problems with Cancun; people are there on vacation and pretty relaxed.

Everyone is good to wear thongs there just like anywhere outside of the US. I would expect some looks for the male half from the Americans. Most people at the JW are well traveled so they have no issues with people that are less than covered.

I plan on wearing nothing but my various Muscleskins 1/2" poser thongs to the beach and condo pool! Board shorts I just wear for cover up. :-) Can't wait to get some sun on my buns. It's been a mild, but wet and long winter here in Seattle and I'm PALE! |

I wore my Joe Snyder Bulge thongs mostly, and changed them out a couple times a day for all the different colors I had brought with me, even some mesh ones! The wife really seemed to enjoy her Malibu Strings too. Cameras weren't allowed in many places on the property so I have very few pics...

Last trip to Hedo 2 was not impressive, I had people hitting on my wife as soon as I got on the dive boat and people having sex in the so-called "prude" area. I hear the motto of the swingers is "respect" and I guess they respect no, but really I don't like having people approach me for sex, let alone my wife while I'm offshore. You shouldn't have to say no to a question you didn't want to hear. We have had much more pleasant experiences at N Resort (Jamaica) and Hidden Beach (Mexico) where they specifically say "no sex." Soooo ... is Desire like that or do people mostly leave you alone?

I saw one guy in a square-cut swim brief. I wore my thongs everywhere I was allowed to on the resort, which was everywhere but the lobby and the restaurants. The beach was nice. I only stepped out in the ocean far enough to get my feet wet up to my knees though. Went snorkeling in a thong just a couple miles off the coast and it was fantastic. Spent some time sunning on the beach in a thong though, buns up! There were a few women wearing thongs, some with regular bikini bottoms and everything in between, quite a few also fully nude however. Nearly everyone was topless. I had probably two people comment on my thong, and that was to ask why I wasn't naked! I told them I wanted the tan lines. :) I just feel more comfortable in a thong than I do naked, what can I say? Not that naked is bad, I just don't like dangling about, it's why I don't wear boxers!

I haven't been to other places, but I heard a few comments that it was much quieter/calmer/slower than at Desire's sister resort on the Riviera Maya. I never got approached or hit on, and I thought I was rather attractive, lol. My wife didn't report being hit on either, and I only heard one story while there from another couple about being propositioned, but they politely said no and that was the end of it apparently.
There was some public displays of sex, but only in the designated areas, aka: around the hot tub and in the playroom. |

The Westin Hotel in Cancun is one of the first resorts of the strip. It is very far from the coco bongo, the clubs and the noise, so has a very different crowd. I was thinking that I was going to be the only one in a thong, but I was wrong. My wife got mad about me because I saw so many girls in thongs that I started to snap photos of them. Got about 10 walking on the beach in a very tinny thong in just 3 days. Sure that they were lots more of them tanning on the beach like us, that that did not walk. Yes, you are going to get some attention from vendors but we felt very comfortable and enjoyed a lot our holiday. |

Being with a lot of family and friends, I couldn't really thong myself publicly, but I found a way to do it secretly. The resort was huge, with a wave pool and a lazy river, but I discovered several "quiet pools" that were often empty or close to it. I realized that once I got in the water, which was about chest high, I could slip off my shorts (wearing a thong underneath, of course) and no one outside the pool would be able to see, if I stayed close to the side of the pool.
I got in quite a bit of thong time this way, when no one else was in the pool and it was a bit of a thrill. I also discovered that these pools were perfect for skinny dipping late at night! |

My GF and I spent a lot of time walking up and down the beach thonging away from the major resort crowd. We had no issues at all, younger folks would find an excuse to turn and take a look while chuckling and older people had no reaction. There were plenty of females wearing thongs all along the beach and at our resort. I chose cover up when passing by the major spring break resorts but not by smaller spots, I enjoyed the walk! We walked for hours in both directions from our resort and it was wonderful!

We stayed at a small but busy all inclusive resort. I took down some Dore;s bikinis and some custom made skimpier bikinis and a few thongs and G-strings. I started out the first day in a Dores moderate bikini in black. I never got any looks or comments. As te days went by I got braver and by the last day I donned a pretty skimpy thong. I did get a few looks and chuckles over the week. All and all a great week, weather was gorgeous and hot. Got a lot of sun and some wicked tan lines. The funny thing was had some older women come over to talk to us a few times and they were there to get a better look apparently. That's okay I enjoyed that too.

It’s an adults only resort and I hear there has been plenty of topless sunbathers there. I’m hoping it’s a place my wife and I could finally thong together. We were considering going sometime in October. Quick backstory: My wife and I were tossing around the idea of going on a cruise, but I finally got her to cave in to wearing a thong on the beach. HOWEVER, this agreement was reached over a deal.... the deal was I had to take her to a nice beach getaway lol. This is totally going to be worth it because she’s my absolutely gorgeous better half, and it has always been a goal of mine to enjoy skimpy swimsuits together! *Update* I learned the water at Excellence Riviera in Cancun has a lot of seaweed. That worries me a little, since I am wanting to snorkel and swim while wearing my thong. Other than that concern, I’m interested to hear if anyone else has experience here, or can recommend a better resort. |

Topless is usually not allowed at the pools, but is not a problem on the beach. Each week seems to be different etc., depending on the clientele. I generally go to Secrets resorts; Maroma, Akumal and Breathless. The wife never has any issues thonging and I've seen a couple of guys here and there in thongs.
As for the seaweed, it varies and it's hitting everywhere, even the US. One day it can be fine and the next holy ish! If you do plan to Secrets resorts, Akumal has great snorkeling right off the beach.

It was great and although the seaweed was pretty bad, the beach was beautiful and the thong atmosphere was perfect.

The sand was so white, and most folx don't speak English, and no one had any issue. Restaurant on site is half price of every other resort and there is a very convenient quickie mart on site. All gated in..
Hispanic cultures are more tolerant of minimal swimwear from my experience. Wore all my Charlie suits and got a killer tan.

Both times I wore a thong at the beach. Second time, I also wore one to snorkel at Isla Mujeres and at the hotel pool and tanning chairs at the terrace (I didn't stayed long at the pool area, I had no issues, but I'm shy and didn't felt as comfortable as the beach). I was nervous when a staff member was coming my way, but turns out he just wanted to offer me a massage, so I assume they are fine with it. I have some photos here:

You certainly don't need to be at an adult resort or a far beach to wear a thong. Both the Royals are family oriented and just in the middle of the resorts area. People really are minding their own bussiness.
You can see in this videos how relaxed are people in Mexico about what you wear. Some of them actually encourage it.

This resort is 21+, topless legal, and caters to an adult party crowd. There are some swingers if that is your thing but no one was least bit pushy. Its more a place to be yourself and not be judged by a soul. They have theme night parties and most people put a lot of effort into their outfits for them. Dinners are sexy as well! Ladies are probably 75% thongs. Guys are mainly board shorts but maybe 25% square cuts.
This was the perfect place for us and we will certainly be back. GF was able to wear a bunch of sheer tops braless for dinner which is something we love to do at home. She didn't even pack a bra for the entire trip which made the airports amazing :)
