 Try these from NIKE store:

http://store.nike.com/us/en_us/?sitesrc=uslp=#l=shop,pdp,ctr-inline/cid-1/pid-317831/pgid-368962

They are unlined and even skin coloured underwear shows through them easily when completely dry

These aren't as long as requested, but various colors of the Soffe teeny tiny shorts are at least slightly see through including grey, yellow, and white.http://www.soffe.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=11102&storeId=10051&productId=44307
Also, the Soffe Running Shorts are slightly see through if you remove the inner liner:http://www.soffe.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=11102&storeId=10051&productId=32393
You can find the girl's shorts on sale various places such as Kohls if you watch for it.  I've never seen the running shorts anywhere but the soffe website.

I'll be sure to post a photo in Images when I find the pair I want, maybe with my yellow Muscleskins thong showing thru.  Now I'm hoping it'll be something like navy basketball shorts that aren't too long, like thonger2005 described above with all the little holes in them.  Then I can wear them for my 12k road race in mid-May, with a contrasting tee or tank, and afterwards cut the liner out for the beach season.

I've taken a look at all the suggested links -- thanks, guys -- and many are appealing.  Like richvpl's Nike shorts, .  They're like my white/navy stripe ones that I'd planned to wear in the race, before deciding on navy instead, though mine aren't see-thru the way richvpl describes them.

I found a pair of orange Adidas nylon soccer shorts at Goodwill for $2, like HAPPENSTANCE was describing in white.  They're really sharp, too, but not see-thru.  They go well with my orange Newton trainers and a yellow tank, so depending on the shoes I choose for the race, I may go with that combo instead.

All this fashion consciousness for a race I'd rather run naked!  But that's not possible this year, and I still want to look my best.  On the beach, too, with just the right amount of see-thru to keep things interesting.

Brocker36, I don't do women's stuff, but I took a look at Soffe's men's shorts, and their Bird's Eye Mesh Shorts look pretty good for my needs.  Cheap, too, just $12.99.  If I can't find what I want at Sports Authority, I may order some online.  Do you know if Kohl's carries their men's line?  I think there's one around here somewhere, though these days gas might cost more than shipping!  Thanks for the tip.

Thanks, koenig3456, I took a look.  Pretty impressive see-thru qualities, would give quite a show.  And I like the stripes and Deutchland logo.  A bit long, but I could shorten them.  Nearly four days left, I'll keep an eye on them.  Right now, the shipping is more than the price, but that may change.  I wonder if these are available on the High in the UK, we'll be there this summer.  Would Lily White's offer something this risque?  Thanks for the lead.

Your coverup pics are locked, Thongsailor.

I started this thread, so here's an update:  found some Champion medium gray lined mesh shorts real cheap at Goodwill, 6" inseam.  I cut the lining out, and they'll work great.  Enough see-thru to have a little fun, but they're not blatantly in-your-face.

Also, with a board member's helpful tip, I found some 'Starter' Youth XXL reversible navy lined mesh shorts with white side stripes at Walmart, then cut the kelly green layer out.  But they're very little see-thru, so will probably work fine for regular use running and at my health club.  Sharp looking, and in just the mesh, are very light weight and good for summertime.

Then I found some more navy ones at Goodwill, but they're so good looking I may not 'deface' them, at least for the time being, and use them as regular gym gear.

I have a picture of some shorts my daughter bought that I tried on  and liked the so much, i went out and bought a pair. I took the picture in the store with them hanging on the rack. (the blue pair) I bought a white pair.

They have those little holes in them and i really dont even need to cut the lining out of them and they are still kinda see thru.

They are VERY short shorts, and kinda ride up the rear end.  I took a few pix of me in the pair I bought.

Go look in my profile pix. I did a close up shot of them hanging on the rack.

I have actally gone to thrift stores and found tons of 80's style tight short shorts.  You dont need to modify them at all.  Last week I found a pair of vintage tight cotton bodybuilding shorts (2 in inseam), stretch cotton and in spectacular shape.  They set me back all of $1.99.  I wear them for working out in my gym.  I pair them with a string tank and bandana on my head and make believe that I am back at Golds gym in the 1980's...LoL

My favorite coverup to wear around the beach , at home or pool is an extra long basketball jersey with just my swim thong underneath.  I wear NBA or college basketball jerseys all the time during the summer anyway with shorts.  I usually find them at discount online sports stores like EASTBAY or discount sporting good stores   I will find the triple long for tall guys works best, since I'm 6" 5'.  They hang to my mid thigh and I have worn them many times with out problems.  My collection of jerseys include a throwback Atlanta Hawks, Detroit Pistons, New York Knicks, and UCLA.

I typically wear old cutoffs (short) or some other cheap shorts and an old t-shirt. Since I leave these with my towel when I go into the water, get some refreshment, or walk along the shore, I don't take anything that I would feel bad losing, even though in my many years of thonging here, I have only had something stolen once when I was away (a t-shirt).

"what type of coverup do you prefer and why?"

For women (& even small men such as myself) check

http://www.the-bikini.com/galleries-flap/

http://www.biquini.com/Biquinis-bikinis-Vestidos-y-Accesorios/Biquini-bikini-Flap-de-lycra-cubre-string.html

I have two for both front & back with haberdashery magnets to secure the string sides. They are very quick to robe & disrobe.

I like the concept that Peter has pioneered for men at

http://www.addicks.fsnet.co.uk/nat/nudelife/nudelife.htm

I also note that Joe Snyder  http://www.joesnyderunderwear.co.uk/JoeSnyder-Boxers/JS09/index.html has tiny running shorts that would cover up just enough to be legal if, heaven forbid, we need to hide our skimpy thongs !

The latter modified with Peter's method would allow quick dressing & undressing when needed.

A small modification using haberdashery magnets instead of velcro would aid in quick dressing to maximise exposure time.

I bought a Prevail Sport shorts, in black.  They are perfect as coverup arriving or leaving the beach or the pool.   The front and  back panels meet at the waist line leaving a big opening at the sides of the legs.   Because most of my swimwear are thongs or 1/2 inch side rios, it seems like if I'm wearing nothing underneath.   But if I wear a pair of 5cm conventional speedos, the sides of the suit show clearly.

Re:Cover-up recommendations? (coverup)

Date Posted:01/07/2012 12:14:56Copy HTML

Believe it or not, I am actually considering wearing a thong as a coverup to my thong.   Wife and I are going to South beach in the spring.  All my tanning thongs are muscleskins posers or torpedos.   This year, I really started wearing the torpedos.  We only went to Gunnison beach (clothing optional) so any attire at all, no matter how extreme, was still more coverage than most people had ...LoL.   I got used to wearing a muscleskins torpedo that matched (in color and print) her Malibu strings g-strings.  We got lots of attention, a ton of people made (very positive) comments to us, and it was just plain fun to match like that.

Problem is, while I think I am fine walking up and down south beach in a thong (I have done it before), I am not so comfortable walking in a muscleskins torpedo.   i dont know how familiar people are with these, but the way I buy them ....they leave absolutely nothing to the imagination (especially if they are in a light color), and they project me out basically straight.  Sorry...I am just not comfortable strutting up and down sobe like that.   Was I was thinking was, I would bring a much more conservative thong (i.e speedo thong) and put it over my muscleskins when wife and I walked up and down the beach.  I would still tan in the torpedo.      Seems to make sense to me.

I think you are right.  The torpedo is over the top for South Beach and is likely to generate rude comments and possibly some enforcement, but I don't think you have to go "much more conservative" when walking down the shoreline:  I would go small to micro, just not stick out or transparent.

While I understand some are uncomfortable starting out in a mall thong, and change down once they are comfortable with the crowd, I think it looks odd, or you look guilty, when you are switching thongs throughout the day.

I prefer to wear one thong, stick to it, and pretend it is just totally normal. I don't change up, down, or draw any attention to my thong.  It just is, get use to it.  It is a non-issue for me, and hopefully you too. If I were to swap around to me it seems I am admitting that one of the thongs is not approprate for all beach activities.

I only cover up when I get of the beach, like riding home on the bicycle or going across the street to the coffee shop.  Then I throw on a running singlet over the top, which covers the tops of my buttocks and some of the front, yet an observant person will notice I have only a thong on underneath.

Re:Cover-up recommendations? (coverup)

I wore a thong as a coverup on my trek to use the restroom from the clothing optional beach. Didn't think much fuss i would encounter doing it seeing women in bikini thongs walking into out of the beach towards the restrooms in a park. When i did it some long time nudist seen me while they were covered up themselves in the park area. When they later were talking to friends on the beach they thought my attire wasn't appropriate in the park setting with picnics and families with children walking around. Most of the time i wear short running shorts still get sun on my legs and sleeveless polyester spandex top as a coverup in case my back burns from previous day of sunning. Usually the muscle top i wear alone being nude trying to even out my tan from back legs and bum to my already tanned upper body.

Sometimes when i see guys in tiny micro g-strings or sling shots what's the point in wearing it  might as well go nude being everything is seen through the fabric anyway at the clothing optional beach. Suppose the look brings others to take photos with them in unusual thong swimwear and they like being attention whores.
While i agree with JM_Runs changing into other suits makes it more attention getting then staying with what you originally decided to wear. To many people seeing you change hundreds of times wearing different thongs makes them laugh more and think your trying to model showing it off.

Re:Cover-up recommendations? (coverup)

Wow guess I never thought of using a "coverup" when out and about.  I do wear a tee shirt and a pair of shorts, quite short with pockets when walking to my place on the beach.  I need some place to keep keys, lighter, a few bucks and things like that.  When leaving for the day, I usually wear the same tee shirt but seldom wear the shorts.  When I am at a resort pool I never wear the shorts to or from the pool, only a string or thong and a tee shirt at most.  Most of the tee shirts bottom out just below my belly button so my suit is quite visable but usually have a large towel over my shoulder.  I have never heard anyone say anything to me.
I certainly don't have anything to hide or to be ashamed of, as the parts are covered.  I have not figured out why women like to wear a mesh or sheer "wrap" as you can see right thru them anyway.  What a waste of time and not real sure who they are kidding.

Re:Cover-up recommendations? (coverup)

JM, The only problem with the strategy in which you proposed is that then I get overlapping (and non continous) tan lines.  I have worn muscleskins suits for the last 5 years and my tanline is constant.  If I wear a bigger suit to South beach (which right off the bat seems to be a contradiction) I fear it will mess them up, not enhance them...which is the goal.  I guess my real choice is 1) do i just wear my opaque poser suits (which i would be fine with walking up and down the beach) and not match my wife. 2) Do I wear my posers, match my wife, and coverup with a bigger thong or 3) spend some cash and buy poser suits that match my wife (I guess you could alternatively argue that I could buy her MS Kimmy bottom teardrop g-strings to match my poser suits, but the economics on that are highly unfavorable...LoL).
Wife likes when we match, and I do too, so right now I am leaning towards option #2.   If you run the numbers, probably 10-20 people will see my putting the bigger thong over my muscleskins.  By walking from our hotel to south point and back, or up to the fountainbleu and back, several hundred people will see us.  I agree JM....wearing a sheer yellow torpedo for that distance is sure to raise some consternation...I dont need it.  I think I will just coverup and avoid the hassle.  If they want something to look at, my 105 lb wife with her 34C natural boobs in a teardrop crystal back g-string should do the trick

Re:Cover-up recommendations? (coverup)

Date Posted:01/08/2012 09:53:04Copy HTML

I agree with JM. It makes no sense to start in one suit and then, publicly, put one on over it. It sends the message that you are ashamed of the original suit that you were wearing. If you are comfortable wearing a yellow torpedo, keep it on for your walk. Otherwise, don't wear it at all and wear a smaller micro or whatever you are comfortable in and that maintains your desired tan lines (this is precisely the reason that I don't like tan lines, they are too restrictive).
Either approach will be OK on South Beach, it just depends on your comfort level!

Re:Cover-up recommendations? (coverup)

As much as I am inclined to mostly agree with you bmicro, I am seriously questioning this line of reasoning.    If one adopts your logic, it defys the need for a coverup at all.   Women all over south beach lay out topless, then put their tops back on to walk around.  It does not mean they are "ashamed" of therir breasts, it just means they are not comfortable exposing them to hundreds of people whom they are not in a comfortable environment with.  The point of a coverup is exactly that, to cover things that you do not deem appropriate for exposure to the general public.  In my instance, I am fine with exposing my gluteus maximus, and I am not confortable showing my groin area in the manner in which a muscleskins torpedo does.   I'm surprised with the reaction to this tread, but I guess that is what great debate is all about

Re:Cover-up recommendations? (coverup)

Date Posted:01/09/2012 12:25:06Copy HTML

This is a tricky one..... I can see, and have experienced both sides of this....
I think it very much depends where you are and who is around you, I've been on holiday in Europe and South America and walked the beach in some pretty small thongs.... This is at more adult orientated resorts where there are few to no families, on beaches where there are families I would always slip my shorts back on to walk the beach as a sign of respect for others around me. Don't get me wrong I'd prefer not to, and tend to seek out beaches where I don't have to do this, but some times you set up early to get in a good days tanning and the beach fills up with families and if you are inclined to take a stroll I think covering up is the best option. That said, I would never change my suit out on the beach in these situations, I work on the theory  "I was here first, if your not keen on my suit, there's plenty of room future along the beach! I want the tan lines this suit gives and I'm not changing!!"
I work on the same principal here in the London parks that I tan in, I find a quiet spot and set up, if people set up around me, so be it, but then don't complain about my choice of tanning wear, if I get up to get a drink or ice cream or the like, I will put my shorts back on, much as I would love to wonder through Hyde Park or the like in a micro, it's just not acceptable in my book, so I cover up.
I credit any guy or girl that tans in a thong or micro but I would think worst of them if they openly flaunt it in an inappropriate situation, there are places you can get away with it and there are places you can't! You have to choose wisely

Well that's my 2 cents worth!!
Cheers Paul

Re:Cover-up recommendations? (coverup)

Date Posted:01/10/2012 02:45:18Copy HTML

I view a coverup as what you wear, if necessary, when transitioning away from a beach or pool environment where wearing a particular style of swimwear is appropriate to an environment where it is not. This is true regardless of your choice of swimwear. I have been on some beaches, both here and elsewhere, where some sections are clothing optional and others are not (e.g. Haulover). In those cases, I will certainly put on a "cover up" when I leave the nude section. There are beaches where there is a transition between sections where g-strings are appropriate and sections where they are not (e.g. going from Crandon Park to Bill Baggs State Park). Again, putting on a "cover up" is a great idea (in my example it is necessary to avoid a citation).
We are, however, talking about South Beach and there is no transition between sections in regard to what is appropriate. If a torpedo is appropriate where you choose to lay out, it is appropriate as far as you can reasonably walk. I don't know of anywhere you can be without exposing yourself to hundreds of people merely by laying out. Walking to the Fountainbleau probably extends that to thousands on a busy day. I am not arguing the appropriateness of any particular style, just pointing out that the appropriateness doesn't change when you move about.
I have seen women walk around without putting on their tops and some that put on their tops when moving about. However, this is different from putting on a swimsuit over another one to cover up and hide it.

agree with that, there is a difference b/w putting on a bikini top on to naked breasts to walk around the beach, and putting on a swimsuit over another one to cover up the first one.

A woman sunbaking topless who covers up when going for a swim,  =  'she is probably a bit shy'.......
the same woman walking around the same area but doesn't cover up  =  'she is confident, hot"...
A guy sunbaking wearing a torpedo yelllow suit at SoBe beach, gets up to walk up the shoreline.....=   'that guy has guts, a master degree in showing off,  he could be a perv, or maybe he is not a perv because a woman is walking next to him,  I bet someone could abuse him for wearing  a porn-shop suit in public".....
Same guy covers up the torpedo with another suit before walking the beach,  =   "odd, guilty, ashamed...silly to wear something he is not really comfortable with"

the above remarks are only mine,  that's what I would think in those situations.   However I would never do or say anything, it's not my business.
The bottom line is everyone should be free to do what they want to do.And accept the potential consequences of their decisions.

Re:Cover-up recommendations? (coverup)

Date Posted:01/11/2012 05:26:54Copy HTML

The issue is not always what you can get away with in a particular venue, but rather with what you're comfortable with personally.  For instance, I've been spending all day every day on the beach here in Naples, FL in my Nu-Parr V-kini thong, sunning and swimming like everyone else.  The folks around me get used to it, and the hoards strolling by all look my way.  Yet I'm reluctant to take off walking down the beach in just the thong, fearing I'd look and feel like a showoff.  I'm a conservative guy; exhibitionism has its limits!

That said, if it turns out my wife is willing to walk with me, that may make it okay.  In her company I'd feel very normal.  Also a little proud for being so daring.

On the subject of coverups and what looks odd, I don't think it looked odd when I pulled on my long navy trunks the other day to walk the half mile down to the pier.  They're the same trunks I wear to and from the beach.  By contrast, if folks saw me pull my 2" tan-thru racer on over the thong, that would have looked odd.

My comfort level wearing the thong grows greater every day, so who knows, maybe by the end of the month I'll be willing to walk that half mile alone in just the thong, and not worry whether I look like a showoff.  I keep reminding myself it's just a bikini, and a few other men on the beach are wearing bikinis.  And since the rear coverage on bikinis can vary a lot, with different cuts showing more or less cheek, a thong bikini is simply a cut that's narrow enough in the back that it slips down between the cheeks, exposing them entirely.  So it's really not that different than other bikinis, is it?  (We all know it is, of course, but I gotta keep telling myself it isn't!)

One positive factor is that the folks in Naples, though reputed to be conservative, are genteel, not red necks.  I've had absolutely zero negative comments up to this point.  If people disapprove, they're not saying so.  It also feels good when women choose to set up nearby.

Regarding women's gauzy see-thru coverups, mentioned above in this thread, I think they're great, not silly or dumb.  They can be sexy and alluring on good looking dames, and they provide all who wear them with at least a modicum of modesty.

Something comparable for guys, I think, would be to wear gauzy, white cotton pajama bottoms, with bare torso on top.  Super masculine, and they can be as see-thru as one likes.  Hmmm . . . . since it's going to be cloudy tomorrow, instead of hitting the beach again, it'll be the perfect chance to go shopping.  With my colorfully-patterned red V-Kini thong on underneath, of course.  Then that half mile walk to the pier will be really fun!

I see the board is more on the opposite side of my view than on the same side........I guess I am just going to have to agree to disagree on this one.  Great perspective though....that is what makes social media work!!!

My preference is a pair of unlined short, split side, somewhat sheer running style shorts.  However, if I'm going to wear any type of cover-up, it's because of the situation/environment I'm in.  i.e., a thong or string would alarm/offend if I strutted about in one.  So, I usually go with something that is appropriate for the place/company, yet still expresses my thonging preference. Sometimes, this has been a pair of hip-hugging shorts, that display the waist straps of my thong.  Other times, it has simply been a towel wrapped around my waist, or a pair of short, shorts.

 Stanpuppy,
I doubt that there is much disagreement and certainly not "sides". I think that we both agree that beach goers should wear whatever is appropriate and that they are comfortable with. We might also add the word "least" in there. We are merely articulating different comfort levels.
If I were to tell you that wearing your torpedo on South Beach is inappropriate (which I am not) then we  would have a  disagreement, just as we would have a disagreement if you were to tell me that it is OK to wear a very small g on South Beach while lying out but that I shouldn't walk around in it without covering up.

Ultimately I think it all boils down to confidence and comfort level.   I think your right....if your comfortable in it, wear it!!   I see myself growing more confident about being seen in certain types of clothes (i.e thongs at the gym).   Perhaps as I age, maybe I just care less and less about what other people think and am fine doing my own thing.   Bmicro...i have seen your flickr pics and MAN...some of that stuff is crazy.  But, you wear it up and down the beach everyday with no problem, so obviously it works for you from both a confidence and comfort level.    You probably right.  I COULD wear the torpedo and take my fountainbleu walk.  Would anything REALLY happen....no.  Might somebody make a comment....YEAH.   But at the end of the day.  I will go away.  I will never see that person again.  THey dont know me....I dont know them, so big deal.

Thanks...very therapeutic

I usually wear above the knee nylon swim trunks or I will wrap myself with a towel as cover up.
It seems everyone here has a different threshold for using a coverup. I will usually start out at a vacation spot using some kind of cover whenever getting up for a drink or going to the bathroom. Once I have gotten a feel for the vibe of the place I will more often than not dispense with the cover up for the above purposes. A little liquid courage seems to help also.

I am considering purchasing a Tactics south beach squarecut from UnderGear, as a coverup.  It actually looks like a pair of very tight white jeans short-shorts.  Definetely very sexy! does anyone have any of these or any experiences?

I orderd the Tactics south beach square cut last year. I ordered up a size to XL because I wanted it to look more like jean shorts. It was way too tight and the fabric didn't stretch enough for me to pull them all the way up. I was disappointed because I liked the look, but not the fit.

In general, I wear running shorts and a sleeveless running top as cover-up wear on a beach day. Most of my running shorts are without a liner brief and have a 2" or 3" inseam. Sometimes I wear compression shorts that are the same but tight. On a couple occasions, I have worn a 3" side brief suit as a cover-up over my g-string, that's fun.

I think this year when i go to south beach, I am going to wear a pair of hot skins retro stretch fitness shorts.  I bought them at a thrift store for $4.00 and had them hemmed from a 6 in inseam to a 2 in. inseam.  They are totally 80's retro (red and black alternating stripes)...just like the old Gold Gym bodybuilders on the cover of Muscle & Fitness used to wear
