Re:Cover-up recommendations? (coverup)

I love wearing summer dresses as cover ups. If I am going from the house to the beach or just the car to the beach, a shorty beach dress is the best cover up. If it is made from jersey with some lycra/spandex, it will fit pretty well. If I am going to spend the entire day hanging out, then I'd wear a maxi dress. Being taller without curves, the maxi dress makes me look in proportion and coupled with some strappy platform sandals, I can go from the beach to a nice restaurant or bar.

Sometimes, I'll mix it up with some cheeky cut-offs with the top button undone, folded down, I'll also hike up the side strings. That way, people will know that I'm wearing a thong/g-string bottom and with the fold down, it shows some of the front panel of the bottom. Pretty sexy if you ask me. Also a nod to the 90s. Where are my rollerblades?

What ever happened to a towel? by far the best option, cause you've got less to carry. you have to take it to lie on it anyway.

otherwise, pareo/sarongs are great. really thin, light material that can be tied in hundreds of different ways. short or long. you can even tie a rudimentary, bulky (kinda) thong out of it. islanders think of everything!

Although, after writing this, i realise that in the south pacific, we're probably quite accustomed to seeing men in sarongs. it seems fairly normal or at least accepted here. where as, especially in America, i believe it's somewhat ridiculed because it looks like a skirt?

At Miami Beach I usually use a towel around my waist so after I reach the beach I don' t have any clothes to carry around- G string is all I need.  Sometimes I've worn colorful boyshort underwear to walk along Ocean Drive thru the cafes and all- no shirt, works fine.

At some hotels where they provide robes I'll wear that with the thong or G underneath. Seems to make the disrobing easy and seems a little classy too.

I love pareos on girls and on guys. On a lean muscular body, a low pareo around the hips, showing off the abs and the veins and a small peek at the thong or speedo is such a great look.
Not a fan of short wraps as they are not really flattering on taller girls. I would rather wear a filmy transparent pareo which covers most of my body than a short wrap. I think they are more mysterious and sexy when compared the the short version. Plus there are more options in how to wear them.
Nice call steampowered!

Re:Cover-up recommendations? (coverup)

I find this discussion rather alarming, because too many comments seem to proceed from the premise that there is, indeed, something shameful about wearing a thong on the beach.
True, it makes sense much of the time to walk from the parking lot to the beach in shorts or jeans. It's what happens afterwards that bothers me.
More and more at Venice or South Beach, you find the following happening: the thonger arrives, finds a convenient spot, sets up his paraphernalia (towel, beach blanket, low deck chair, etc) and starts undressing; however, he removes his shorts or jeans in the most discreet way from a sitting position on the towel; only then does he reveal a thong. He will sit or lie in his thong, but there is no way he will walk around in it. Not to the water. Not over to the trash can to deposit an empty bottle or soft drink can. Not for a stroll along the beach. Instead he will carefully pull on his shorts before standing up.
This sort of attitude dismays me. Yes, certain considerations can always be at play (too many family groups, for example) so you do use common sense. But I've been thonging since my teens and I don't buy into the argument that I must cover myself when ever I stand up on the beach. I like wearing a thong, I like to stroll on the beach in my thong, I like showing my body, and I like doing anything I can to legitimatize the thong culture. Being embarrassed and secretive about it is wrong, in my opinion.
It depresses me that some thongers would disagree with me. Recently, at Ford Lauderdale Beach I was lying near another male thonger who was probably in his early 40s. He was meticulous about covering himself up when he left his beach blanket, and he actually rebuked me for not doing so myself. He told me that by flaunting myself in a Skinz thong (and it was a conservative one) I was disgracing the thonging community. I ignored him, went for a walk and was hassled by no one. When I got back to my towel, this guy had switched his attack two teenagers in (in Speedos, would you believe?) telling them to cover up if they wanted to walk around because they were being indecent. We really have to challenge these attitudes

Thongboy, I totally agree with you about the alarming attitude of some people when it comes to thongs. While it is depressing, I can understand why they feel that way when it comes to others wearing thongs. The thing that really bothers me is that man's attitude towards the teenagers who were searing Speedos. Come on now! Speedos were just normal swimwear when I was a kid, and that's just what everyone wore when they went swimming. Now I read so many comments about people who find Speedos sexy, racy, obscene - it's ridiculous. How and when did a speedo become obscene? What is wrong with people and how did they get so brainwashed to think that speedos are obscene? I am so glad I do not live in america because I'd be ridiculed everytime I wore a speedo, nevermind all the times I wear my thongs!

I suggest when anyone asks you why you wear a thong or swimsuit as opposed to board shorts or baggies that you mention that you don't prefer to drown just today when you go swimming. Ask them if they have ever seen an Olympic swimmer or diver wear board shorts or if anyone has ever won an Olympic medal wearing 5 pounds of wet clothing which is enough to cause you to drown if you have to fight cold lake or ocean water. I used to swim in the Pacific ocean on the California coast for many years in 'open-water.'  I had to really struggle a few times to fight Ft 10 tall waves and very strong rip currents to make it back to shore after swimming without a wetsuit 1/2 mile of water at 52 degrees F. Stupid dork shorts would most certainly not allowed me to stay afloat while I struggled for my life in an unsympathetic angry ocean. I have often swam in cold ocean water in the Pacific in Hawaii and California as well as strong river currents. Never with a wetsuit. Any dummy who is a fashionable (sheep) that thinks wearing board shorts in a river or ocean is welcome to lose his stupid life trying to impress his idiot admirers.

thongboy, i think for most, it's a question of peoples personal comfort and humility rather than embarrassment and shame.

I understand you're an advocate for your ideals about thonging, but shouldn't that mean you're more open minded and accepting of all people, regardless of what they're wearing? I can never understand how so many thongers get so biased and narrow minded about what other people wear. A lot of the seasoned thong wearers on this forum seem to take quite a negative approach to people not wearing thongs and not wearing them the way they think is right. Isn't this just as bad as all the people who hate thongers and only like people to wear board shorts? To me this is like advocating world peace by killing everyone who doesn't believe in it.

To me, thonging is about the freedom to wear what you want, where, how and when you want and to feel comfortable in anything. rather than everyone having to wear less on the beach.

perhaps i just have a more open and accepting view about thonging.

Thongboy, your story of the prude on Fort Lauderdale beach is amusing.  I bike down there in a thong, run in a thong, hangout in a thong and then come home in a thong. I never take shorts to cover up.  I do take a running singlet that I wear on top while on the bike or at the coffee shop, but it is always obvious I am wearing a thong.  I wonder if the prudish thonger is a local.  If so, if he comes to the beach early on week days I may get to meet him.  I wonder what he is going to think of me running for miles in a thong.

Well stated, steampowered, I'm in total agreement how as thongers we ought to be the last to be judgmental.  Personally, I think lots of guys look great in their board shorts, and if that's what they prefer, who am I to say nay?

Same approach to nude-on-the-beach -- I much prefer a clothing optional venue, where folks can wear as much or as little as they like, or nothing at all, confident everyone respects each other's choices.  That in contrast to a so-called 'nude' beach, where you're looked askance at if you've got anything on, like you're a voyeur or pervert of some kind.  Freedom of choice rules, both for me and for the next guy or gal.

Same applies to coverups -- find your own comfort level.

For me, as long as people are wearing thongs and are being respectful of their surroundings I don't care how they wear them. There's power in numbers. Good example: Was at Haulover a few weeks ago and a group of 4 young women set up not far from me. They were all BIG girls and stripped to thongs - I was thinking to myself RIGHT ON! a] I'm not really that into girls anymore b] If I was I would be into really fit ones - but that doesn't matter. It's about being free to wear what you feel good in and for me, thongs rule!

I guess I need to clarify. I'm not attacking people who don't wear thongs. What I'm really questioning is the growing timidity of many of us who do appear on the beach in a thong but who are anxious to cover up any time we are not actually lying on a blanket or a beach chair. I was also questioning any attempt by such individuals to tell other less conservative thongers, such as myself, to do likewise and cover up should we want to move around. I had the latter experience at Fort Lauderdale, but the same thing happened to a buddy of mine at Will Rogers Beach near Los Angeles.

I don't think thongboy's initial comment about thongers behaving too anxious about covering up in public, was anything bias, non accepting or narrow minded.
He just made a personal comment on a board of people who share similar feelings and experiences.
He didn't criticise directly this person in any way or form, actually it was exactly the other way around, thongboy was harassed by this chap.
If somebody decides to wear board shorts, good on them.  But if they go for thongs, wear them naturally and don't behave weird or ashamed.  Let alone interfere openly with somebody else's decision to wear it naturally.
Everyone should be entitled to have an opinion,  PC epidemic is becoming mad.

Depends on the situation.  I'm a "white t shirt and low cut button down jeans and flip flops" Kinda guy on the weekend.  At the beach an old pair of khaki shorts unbuttoned at the waist with a t shirt to cover up. While at our pool nothing to cover up except a towel over my shoulder... I may layer on a pair of Lycra hipsters over my thong at a public beach if going to the car or restroom...

I usually wear a t-shirt/singlet and boardshorts to/from the beach if I have to. They are normal clothes for me, being a surfer. I generally always have my hat (surf-style cap) and sunnies on.
When I can, I wear my thong to/from the car to the beach, and carry the towel. I have gone to the beach for the day in just my thong from home, to the beach, and back again, wearing nothong else but a thong many times (but with my hat and sunnies on as well!) If I go into a shop along the way, I wear a singlet and thong, or sometimes just a rio bikini.
Like others have said, it depends...like most situations!

I generally wear an oversize long T shirt as a cover up. I have several XXX tall T shirts that work for me. The just expose a small put of my rump. I have worn these while walking around the lake, going to the local farmers market in the golf cart or the ice cream store. It seems to cover up enough but if you look you can see that I'm still wearing a thong.

From time to time a person might want to make their thong swimwear less noticed to the public without the bother of actually changing.  Obvioiusly, laying on your back works if you are laying out, but what can you do if you need to take a walk -- to your car, through a busy hotel lobby, or what ever?

One thing both Randy and I have found is simply wearing a T-shirt almost always works.  It can be as skimpy as you want -- tank top, traditional, home-made open side, or any other similar top.  It can even be quite short -- as long as it covers the top of your thong swimwear, so the entire swimsuit is not exposed -- people seem to totally ignor the fact that you have half (or even practically fully) exposed buns.  A cropped off shirt that shows off your stomach does not work, but one that covers even an inch of the top of your suit does.  I think this is because since people don't see the entire swimsuit, they don't realize it is a thong.  The shirt and swimwear blend in their minds into being "covered up".

Another thing that works for me -- go topfree.  I think this is simple diversion -- people look at the thing that is the most interesting (or where for example a magician directs their attention) and ignore other things.  A top free woman in may places calls all the attention to her breasts by being topfree so people don't even seem to notice a thong.  I have had negative comments about wearing a thong on a beach where other women were topfree (and enjoying the day without criticism).  Once I took my top off all objections to my swimsuit bottom also disappeared, and no new ones about being topfree replaced them.

Does anyone else have a simple way to divert peoples attention from your thong -- without a major cover up or having to put on pants or shorts?

When getting in or out of the water I prefer to get out at about the same time as other people. If you're the only one getting out of the water I think you'll tend to stand out more to people sitting on the beach or swimming in the water. The past two weeks I frequented Warm Mineral Springs in Florida before its unfortunate closing this past Sunday. There were times I had to get out of the lake alone and was in plain view for all those in the Spring to see. When I would glance over my shoulder I could see a large % of the people in the lake looking my way. However when I got out at the same time with a group of other people and looked back everyone in the Spring was carrying on as normal.

Sometimes I will cover up with just a t shirt.  I agree that people don't seem to notice at all, even with the tiniest of strings.   . . . and I don't need to feel the sand that seems to always be trapped between skin and shorts.

Re:Cover-up recommendations? (coverup)

As previously posted, I don't wear shorts over my thong but do wear a running singlet over my top half when biking to the beach and when going into the coffee shop for breakfast.

Each morning I have a very wide range of thongs to choose from.  I also have a wide selection of running singlets and tank tops.  These days I tend to prefer ones that let the thong show through a bit. Sometimes the thong or it's outline shows through because the top is a light weight fabric in white, or it may have mesh side panels or a mesh back. From a distance or at first glance people just notice the top.  Obviously I am wearing something small under it since most of them only come half way down my buttocks. If they are closer or look harder maybe they can see the outline or straps of my thong underneath.

There are probably 30 or so on the hook rail for me to select from. Some are warmer for cool days.  Some are a color I like. Lately I trend towards the lighter mesh ones. I have had a hard time finding the perfect cover up, but right now my favorite tops are made by Fila, in bright electric blue mesh. The mesh is light, stretchy and tan-through, yet the tops provide the perfect amount of color so that it looks solid from a distance.

They were marketed to women, but I think most women will not wear them for exercise because their bras will show through.  So they are coming up on discount, on ebay.  Originally priced at 36 dollars, one can purchase them for 10 to 15 including shipping.  Even though marketed to women the tops look good on a man too.  They are a lose stretchy mesh singlet that is pretty much androgynous.

This top comes in two colors, blue and black. They have a small reflective bar on each side, which suggests to the viewer they were made for runners. The black is a lot more see through, so for me I find the blue works better. I like them because they are effectively tan-through too.

I have purchased several in the bright blue. They are the only style of top I have been wearing to the beach during the last month. If you want a tan through top then grab one while they are still available.  They are coming up cheep and I like them so much I now have half a dozen. My only complaint is I wish they were an inch or two longer, but otherwise they are near perfect.

You can see them on ebay if you use the following search>>     Fila blue (net, mesh) (tank, singlet, top)

Sort the list by price+shipping.  I recommend the "electric blue" color. This is a bright royal blue.

I have now acquired several in small and medium, which fit because I am relatively skinny.  I am reselling the large, which was a bit wide for me.

I think this is the perfect beach thong coverup. I hope it works well for some of the other thongers on this board. Let me know if you end up getting one, and how it works for you.

Re:Cover-up recommendations? (coverup)

Date Posted:01/12/2014 11:42:00Copy HTML

While I have purchased several of these tank tops, here is a link to the one I am selling because it is a little large for skinny me. I have replaced the one I am selling with 3 more in the correct size.

They are more mesh than it looks like in the picture, but they visually cover more than you would think because of the bright electric blue color. Against a tan skin it looks almost solid, at least from any distance.

Don't be put of by the listing under women's tank tops. These work on men just as well because there is no bra and really no tits cut in. The cut is straight but with very stretchy fabric, so it will hang straight on a man and stretch enough to accommodate a women.

I now have half a dozen in small because I am skinny.  They are excellent.  When I see something that is just about perfect and is heavily discounted I will purchase several.

For example, I am still wearing my Nike sphere caps purchased a decade ago. The perfect cap. I got several. So good I  have twice had offers from people who wanted to purchase my cap right of my head. Wish I had more of them.

I have bought half a dozen of these tops because I really like them. Stocked a supply that should last me a few years. I suspect once they are gone they are gone for good.

Once in a while something comes along that is just that much better in some important way, or it is just "right".  What amazes me is the larger manufactures never know, because they make something last fall, for selling this spring, and by the time the items get to uses and they are excited about the product the manufacture has long since moved on to a different style or cut. Smaller makers who take direct feedback from their customers generally don't stop making something people really like.

This is one item that I think is perfect for a thong - beach - coverup, at least for me.
I don't like putting on shorts, it suggests the thong is somehow wrong.  So for me putting on a longer top works. That it is still tan through is perfect !!  Both the black and blue are tan through, but the blue is a lot more of a visual block, where as the black seems a lot more transparent and is too see through for me, at least for a cover up.  So I much prefer the electric blue.

If you are about the same size as me me the medium might fit well, but for some might be a little short. If you are tall they may not be long enough. Thin women will probably prefer the small. The one I am reselling is a large.

I can see why this would not be a fav for women for several reasons: If they need a bra for exercise this shirt is completely devoid of one. If they have a bra on underneath it will show through rather a lot. If they go topless it will show a lot at close range.
On the other hand if you have a women who likes to go topless and who just wants a simple tan-though cover up for when she wants a bit more on top, these tank tops might be just the ticket. Even for a women who has a bikini top, these might be a perfect semi-coverup for walking through the hotel.

Guys wearing these tops don't have the nipple problem, from a distance they just look blue, from close up you can see they are tan-through. With a flash picture they are going to be very transparent like most tan through fabrics, but with normal viewing not so much.

I would like to hear from other people if they purchase one of these Fila tank tops, to see if they are as thrilled as I am about these tan-through tanks.

Since some of you asked for a picture of me in one of the shirts >>  Fila "Daziling Blue" light mesh racer back tank.
Sorry about the slightly grubby picture.

For me this tank top is about the perfect length, perfect fabric, and perfect amount of opacity, so I purchased more than half a dozen.

The picture shows how the light mesh tan-through tank top is NOT that see-through from a distance.
Yet when you get close, or people are curious, you can still make out the outline of the thong underneath,
as you see from the photo.  (This was not a flash photo.)

I find the small fit me rather well, I am a little skinny. I now have several of the small.
I also kept a couple of the mediums and resold the large on ebay.

If you are not as skinny as me this will fit you better than it did me. It is a little longer but mostly has a bit more girth.

Although marketed to women the tops have no tits cut in. Basically flat in front.
(They were probably counting on the stretchy fabric to take care of that.)
So it still fits and hangs just right on a guy, see my picture above.
I like the fact that it is slightly tapered at the waist for a slim athletic fit.

The picture on ebay makes it look like it is wider at the bottom. I guess it is a bit but not as much as suggested by the picture. On me they hangs straight down, with a very slight flare out for the hips, like all good fitted shirts.  See me wearing one in the link above.

They are very light stretchy mesh, so basically completely tan trough, yet the blue provides a good visual block.

I don't recommend the black. Although I have both colors I find the black looks very transparent,
whereas the blue, from any distance, looks almost solid.

The black are a bit too see through, so all you really notice blocking is the seams.

There are bright orange and dark purple versions listed by various retailers,
BUT they are not the same stretchy mesh fabric, not even the same cut or styling. NOT the same at all.

I have looked for years, and tried many brands.
I may have more singlet cover ups of different fabrics, cuts and colors than most have swimsuits.
(After all every time a wear a thong I also ride back and forth to the beach with a tank-top on.)

Finally I have found this one, which hits the nail on the head.  Very pleased.
Even more pleased to have been able to buy a bunch on discount, not at the full $36 retail price.

Being a mesh of man made fiber they are stupidly quick drying. Good for travel.
Even good for getting a suntan some place you have to wear a shirt.

If you are a man or women, get at least one before they are all gone.
I think they fit both sexes equally well, if you get one that fits.
There again, they are very stretchy, so very forgiving in the fit department.
Just be aware that on a women the stretch needed to accommodate her bust may make the overall length a little shorter than on a man.

I think they look good on me. What do you all think?  Are they too short or too transparent for you?

Got a complement on my blue Fila shirt today, "She said, I like your shirt."
Then she turned to her female friend and said, "I need to get a new coverup, something like that."

I was wearing one of the Fila blue mesh shits over a bright orange thong which had matching blue straps.

My wife and I just came back from a couple of days at the Fountainbleu hotel in south beach.  The first day we were on the beach outside the main pool/hotel area.  I wore a blue muscleskins poser thong, and she wore a blue/white striped wicked weasel thong.  Neither of us were comfortable wearing the thongs in the pool area, so when we went in to eat lunch I covered up with a Greg Homme Bikini and she wore a luli kama scrunchy back bottom.  Both fairly skimpy suits by most peoples standards, but neither raised an eye at the Fountainblue.  Always great when a bikini that is smaller than a standard speedo can be used as a cover up!!!

My cover will depend on where I am at. Most of the time I prefer a bikini/speedo style suit. In more conservative areas I will wear short shorts and a t-shirt. I don't own board shorts. Every once in a while I willed be seen in a square cut suit that I have over my thong.

I put on a GASP short when covering up and go with my upper body bare.

These comments are upsetting. The sub-text is that we should be ashamed of being seen in a thong, especially if we want to take a walk on the beach. Count me out of this philosophy. It damages our cause

Seems to me that if you have to walk somewhere where you think a thong isn't appropriate, you simply pull on a pair of shorts. Some shorts are so lightweight you'd hardly know you had them on. More trouble to find a shirt of the 'correct' length. It's not like you're going to lose face by being seen in shorts.

Re topless 'disguise'. Back in the 80s in Sydney, topless was far more common than thongs. It was so rare to see a thong wearing women with a top on that it sort of looked odd. Hence I find the recent trend to sunning in skimpier bottoms while still wearing a top puzzling. All about what's fashionable, I guess.

I find it just as easy to pull on a pair of shorts.  The goal is for you to be comfortable.

The problem with wearing shirts over a thong is that it covers the back of the thong and people think you're nude.  If you're going to do this, it's best to wear one cut just slightly above the waistband so people don't think you're streaking.

For a coverup I like a tank top that mostly covers the front of the thong and comes half way down the back. See link to  Fila "Daziling Blue" light mesh racer back tank.    posted above.  If you expand the picture you can see it is mesh.

Had not considered people will assume I am naked, rather suspect they will correctly assume I am wearing a thong. When I do cover up a bit, to go into the stores, the mesh of the Fila tank-top is covering enough for a casual glance. If they want to know and look it is not hard for them to see my thong underneath the mesh, to confirm I am wearing a thong.

From a distance it looks like a blue sleeveless shirt but as a person gets closer they can clearly see I am wearing a thong.

Some of my tops are longer in the back than front. An old style of running singlet that is difficult to find. I don't want it to long, don't want it looking like I am wearing dress.

I have some women friends who do like a longer coverup, often a simple sun dress.  For them a mesh with a printed pattern works well, or something just just light enough be a bit transparent and flutter in the breeze.

I just wear an pair of shorts to walk to the car or back into the house, etc.  Its just easy.  I will bring a square-cut or board trucks if I'm looking for modesty on a beach walk.

Just like Richard12181970, I use shorts to and from the car and a square cut as an option.:)

stringking  -  There are plenty of pictures of me on the web. Some are linked under the thread on people taking ones picture.

Here is an older one of me in a coffee shop wearing a speedo brand tank top as coverup. This one is a little longer and warmer than most of my other ones, which is good for cooler days.

Hi guys,

I thought I'd resurrect this thread as it's constantly something I'm on the lookout for. The first post sums up exactly what I'm after and hopefully someone out there has some up to date leads.

Basically, when I'm off on my holidays, I love to show off a peek of my thong under my shorts if I have to go out or whatever. I've got a few white linen shorts with no rear pockets but I would love to find some nice shorts that are perhaps slightly more see thru than that. I don't want it to be extremely obvious but it would be nice to see my thong through them without having to look too closely.

The mrs has a pair of the WW beach pants that clearly show her thong but look classy too. Has anyone seen anything similar for men?

I am looking for a cover-up for my wife to wear that really doesn't cover-up anything just more of an accessory dress. Anyone have any ideas, The sexier the better!!! We are nudist and she likes to walk to and from the pool at the local nudist resort with sexy short mesh dresses, and we are wanting something more extreme that will be fun, so no matter what you can suggest it will be considered since she will be nude other wise after getting to the swim area

This year I got a cover up from Skinz (basically unlined running shorts) that match my thong underneath. I also have several old matching sets of Dore full bikini and matching thongs and Gs. Much better than using dork shorts as a cover, and easier to get on/off.

Yeah the Skinz cover ups are great. I use them or a sarong as beach cover up to/from the car. I bought a pair in goldenrod powernet. I've even used them as shorts by themselves around the house and I'm really surprised that in spite of their shortness I don't experience any um, ah, fallout. The powernet is a mesh so when I wear them running, I'll always wear a thong.. usually Joe Snyder bulge in mango. (helps with support too)
