Received these black shorts: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/men-Shorts-mens-Crotch-Pants-Collapse-Leisure-Loose-Handsome-Elastic-Waist-Summer-Beach-Shorts-Harem-shorts/1888329770.html  I wore them over the weekend at a B and B. Got up, slipped these on w/o a thong and went downstairs to brunch. Just a few others there, but they cover enough up front to be acceptable on a lazy Sunday morning around others.

Also got these in black: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/men-short-mens-quick-dry-shorts-Men-s-Casual-Sports-Collapse-Harem-shorts-A4015/32437696014.html  They work well with a black thong underneath. In combination, the contrast is subtle enough up front to work in public. The closer fit behind reveals the thong back, however a g-string  disappears,  revealing only small dots of skin.

my preference (derived from a post by marliho elsewhere on thongboard) is for something that I don't need to actually get in to, rather something to wrap around my waist but nothing as bulky as a sarong or towel. Currently I have two of the http://www.the-bikini.com/galleries-flap/ that I tie together to get a front & back cover with a jewelry magnet fastening on the side string; I can simply wrap it around at a moments notice & it is much less awkward than climbing in to shorts.

It is also a sexy little number, still quite cheeky but covers enough for most occasions that call for more than a thong.

another DIY method is explained on http://www.justwearasmile.co.uk/nat/nudelife/skimpy.htm . Peter, a lifetime nudist, probably influenced me to go with the minimal http://www.the-bikini.com/galleries-flap/ modified to give my front & back coverup.

Peter's version is a little more cover than mine but is less likely to be lifted by any breeze & more modest when in closer proximity to textile

I have a WildmanT squarecut swimsuit that I wear over my N2N swim thong as a coverup.  At the gym, it gives me the excuse to say that I'm wearing the thong because the swimsuit would be too sheer to wear by itself.  At the beach, I can just wear the squarecut from the car to our spot on the beach and strip down.

We usually wear our mesh 12" sarongs walking too and from the nude beach.  I prefer to leave my valuables locked in the car. The only problem is that while walking the sarongs tend to creep up higher on the waist and not cover anything up, this usually isn't a problem, but I have on occasion had to pull the front down to cover up while encountering others on the path.

Also, on occasion if we were going straight home from the beach when we lived on Oahu we would just wear them sarongs on the ride home. Once when we got to the townhouse our next-door neighbor was standing by my garage-door when we pulled up, and as I opened the door to my jeep to get out my sarong had creeped the whole way up and he commented "isn't that supposed to be a cover-up not a flash shirt!" I adjusted my sarong when I got out and my wife said at leave it keeps our butts off the seat fabric.

My wife and I  like to wear a sheer mesh mini 12" sarong as a cover up, this work for walking to and from the beach even though it doesn't cover much up! I have also wore this as a cover up going to and from nude beaches, but must warn that I really doesn't cover much and if you sit down it does give you something between your skin and what your sitting on but nothing is covered in front.

Funny story about wearing a sarong,  A few years ago when we lived in Hawaii, my wife and I had been up to the north shore by the polo fields sunbathing and swimming all day nude with a bunch of friends and when it was time to go back, We decided instead of getting dressed before we got into the Jeep we just left our sarongs on, she also had a sarong tied around her top as well for the ride home. this is when we realized that sarongs don't cover anything up front when sitting down, but since we were going straight home we really didn't care, that was until we got to our townhouse and as I drove up my next-door neighbor was standing in his garage waiting for us to come home because he needed to return a drill he borrowed from me. So I opened my garage door and pulled in as fast as possible but he came walking over with the drill in hand and walked right up to the passenger side of my Jeep which had the doors off, and as he looked he saw both of us in all of our glory and as my wife climbed out of the Jeep he just smiled and said "let me guess? you were up at the north shore at the nude beach again!"

I wear one of two things as a cover-up if I am feeling confident. Either a pair of very short shorts (hot yoga/running style) or just a longer singlet/tank top that hangs down enough to cover most of my buns.

Funny and weird thing happened the other day.  I was driving home from the public Wave pool and decided to just wear my Nike style speedo swimsuit and an UA sleeveless compression top. Tossed my shorts on the seat and drove home.  Now, I wasnot wearing a thong but all you could see were my long legs.  So, I'm at an intersection minding my own business and waiting for the lights to change.  I heard several louds honks from the other lane, so I look around and this jag-off in a big work truck "yells hey, man put some pants on!"  I look over to my right and he and his work crew are rubber necking to see my exposes legs, thinking that I was naked under neath.  They were laughing and smirking,  At first I was pissed off but I chilled instead.  So I said WTF DUDE! Why are you clocking my legs, none of our business what I'm wearing, unless you have a thing for guys with sexy longs legs.  And the other guys in the truck started busting his chops. Light changed and I moved on with a smile on my face.

I typically wear a skinz extreme low boxer swimsuit in a navy mesh fabric as my coverup on the ride to the beach and for the walk back and forth to our vehicle. We usually visit the beach in the OBX area of Nc which is plenty thong friendly so the cover up isn't really needed, but it gives me a sense of security for the drive back and forth. It covers my gstring and most of my cheeks. I have recently bought a Joe Snyder mini cheek in a royal blue that matches my favorite arroyman gstring that I plan to wear as a cover up in the near future. It covers very little, exposing almost the entire cheeks, but from the front is way more pg than the gstring is. I have been wearing the mini cheek at home for the past week to cut grass, wash our cars, etc and haven't received any comments from the neighbors about it.

Re:Cover-up recommendations? (coverup)

It really depends on the location. If I am at my local beach and I am walking home, I won't bother with a cover up, most people in my neighborhood are pretty relaxed about nudity and thongs as my house backs up to an unofficial clothing optional beach.
At resorts, I am generally a little more careful. I have a really cute Tigerlily beachdress which has plenty of holes and drapes really beautifully. If I am feeling a little more confident, I have a great WW biosphere maxi dress which has a double slit that goes all the way to my hip. But my two favorites are my WW swing dress that looks like a spiderweb and is too short that it looks like a long top than a dress and a soft and sheer hoodie (I really don't know where I got it). It's a light grey color that hides nothing. I have rocked that at cafes and beach restaurants.

For us it also depends,  if we are at a regular textile beach or pool we will usually wear a micro sarong about 8-9" in length over our G-strings or my wife will wear a net tank-top.  At nude beaches we have both wore just the micro sarong from the parking lot to the beach, which was quite interesting the first time we visited Blacks Beach because climbing down from the parking lot and back up the steep path the sarong didn't really provide any cover-up and we were already a good ways down before we realized how steep the path was, but since most of the others on the path were coming from or going to the nude beach it didn't really matter much. As for nude resorts we usually just go nude without a cover-up and carry our belongings in a tote bag

Re:Cover-up recommendations? (coverup)

I agree, it depends on where.  I prefer a mesh cover like NudeNArizona has.  The mesh shows off my thong/G-string.  Other times, I wear simply a T-shirt short enough that about half my buns show.  I will choose cloths that cover more when I have a long way to go, or must transition more populated places, and less for a short stroll on the beach or walk to a car.  Sometimes this means not even bothering with a cover-up.

Scott and Brad (my husband and a male friend) are both into cut-offs and rarely wear anything else when a cover up is needed.  They wear these shorts about as short as possible, and often the shorts are quite distressed.  If a top is needed, a home-made open-side T=shirt always looks good on them.  This it the type shirt where the arm holes are opened from the top of the shoulders to within an inch or two of the bottom of the shirt.  These shirts are personal, and some men like them loose, some like them tight, some like the arm holes wide open (so they show the chest and back all the time) while others like a more minimal look.  Almost anything is possible, and it seems that the range of looks is almost endless.

One day I tried on one of Brad's open-side shirts and I am now hooked.  They can show so much and be so cute, and by selecting the right color, logo or text, and length, not to mention how much material is removed for the arms, they are about as close to a custom look as is possible.  While I usually wear open side shirts with cut-offs, I sometimes wear them with a thong, G, or other bottom, or sometimes with no bottom at all.  Likewise, I often don't bother with any type top under the open side shirt, knowing I am showing off more than most woman would be comfortable wearing.

Bren, you are lucky to live so close to your beach. I have to walk of bicycle about two miles on city streets, so I usually wear a pair of conventional cotton shorts over my g-string. Sometimes I'll wear my tight cut-offs, but often my suit will bunch up underneath, requiring a bit of 'adjusting' to get thing looking right when I strip down to my string.

I'm thinking of getting some sheer split-side shorts, as I've gotten several fishnet strings recently, and I don't know how those will play when beach walking up to the "Family" end of the beach. I've not had any issues with some pretty minimal suits in the past, so maybe the shorts won't be necessary. I'll have to wait for Summer to find out. Such a long time away!

Last July while at Sunsplash in FL I wore my Bodyaware Rip Stop Booty shorts to the beach with my thong underneath. They are completely sheer and very short. I think they make a great cover-up for walking to the beach.

My cover-up of choice, when one is necessary or desirable, is a pair of N2N split-side shorts. They don't cover much more than the thong does, but are enough to leave something to the imagination. When I'm home, they're virtually a must, lest I offend the sensibilities of my fellow beach-goers. In years past, when I have been able to attend SunSplash in Fort Lauderdale, I'd walk directly from the resort to the beach wearing only my thong with no problems.

I'm in the 'It depends' school of thought here.

I will wear only my thong whenever I feel it's appropriate to wear just swimwear from my car to the beach. I do this at Bondi regularly as I have said in the Australian beaches thread, totally uncovered by anything else but sun tanning oil, as do many other beach goers. If I need to cover up a bit, it's usually just a brief (rio through to Budgy Smugglers) depending on what I read/fell about the location. If I really need to cover up, it's the same as Grabeach, in sports or running shorts and maybe a singlet top.

Hi all,
As mentioned previously it depends on the circumstance, we're lucky enough that where our place is in Spain the beach is literally a stones throw from our balcony so if we're just going down the beach we wont wear a cover up as it's only crossing the road.
I do have a number of lace or sheer cover ups that I throw on if we're going for a walk etc. but our neighbours know what we wear so if we're just popping across the road or just getting in the lift down to the pool then I don't feel the need as they'll see me as soon as I take it off anyway.

For me it really depends on how crowded the beach is. I have only really started venturing out to tan on beaches from September last year (spring here in Australia) but in saying they have become more confident with less coverage the more public thonging I’ve done. Now I tend to wear a square-cut trunk over my thong when there’s a larger crowd and have moved to a royal blue JS cheek brief to walk the beach when less people are around. This is what I wore yesterday while heading to my usual spot but was also able to walk the length of the beach only wearing my thong when leaving. I’ve just posted updated images on my Flickr page from yesterday’s sun session.

When we lived on Oahu we used to frequent a beach that was near Dillingham Air Field is was a 1/4 mile walk from the parking lot. We eventually got comfortable enough to leave our cover-ups in the car. Because once we hit the beach we removed our minimal swimwear anyway even though it wasn’t legal to wear in the first place.

One Sunday when we arrived at the beach parking lot there were a few more cars than usual but didn’t really bother us. I wore a Baggie and my wife wore a single string but when we finally got to our beach there were about 20 people on the beach, which wasn’t a surprise but we decided to keep our bottoms on. A short time later a couple came walking toward us and I noticed the HPD logos on their matching polos. Apparently they were there to raid the beach of illegal activity. They informed us nudity wasn’t legal in Hawaii and that what we were wearing was borderline but not worth the effort to cite us.

Shortly after they left the beach and another person came over to us to ask what happened. We told them and they laughed because they had read that this was Oahu’s only nude beach. So technically that day our illegal swimwear was our cover-up because we would have been nude otherwise.

I see no point in clear plastic shorts, unless you tend to dibble your chilly lunch into your lap. Plastic shorts are not very comfortable to wear.

However micro short shorts, and somewhat transparent mesh shorts made of lace or net, or other shorts that add some visual cover, without total coverage, are are getting popular for people with enough courage to wear them around town.

I see this a LOT on South Beach, where both women and men are dining and drinking along Ocean Drive, wearing cover-ups that range from skimpy to gauzy. Many of the women are wearing transparent mesh cover-ups, often in fluorescent colors.

On the streets of South Beach you will see a lot of women wearing transparent cover-up pants with the frilly edges, like this:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000028155748.htm
Normally in neon orange or neon yellow, which look good with tanned legs or people with darker complexions.

Lace pants are common, like this:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33008803398.html

you will also see the same sort of thing in sorts:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33039999319.html

It is normal for people in Miami Beach to wear their swimsuits while walking through the city:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/ipanemic/5260314233/in/photostream/

And as a guy I would not be embarrassed to wear short shorts (which I have done frequently), or even mesh shorts over a thong, when eating or drinking at the ocean front restaurants. While I was not wearing a thong last time when visiting SOBE last month, (it was not a beach trip), I still got several complements on my short shorts.

As I posted previously, the trend in the City of Miami Beach is for the women to wear mesh, lace or semi-transparent cover-ups.

I found these rather well made D.M brand men's mesh shorts on AliExpress.
 https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33035471975.html

You could not wear them alone, for they are just net, but as a thong cover-up, that is not really covering up at all, the Dark Blue work well.
Like all Chinese sizing, they run very small. The Double XL, the XXL is about a US 33 inch. Be aware that the mesh fabric has NO stretch at all, so if in doubt size up.

They are in line with the current style of cover-ups that are not cover-ups at all, but more of a let me show you what I  am wearing underneath sort of fun cloths.

Thong coverup - mesh short shorts. I have a couple of pairs of these, the black and gray stripy ones.
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3256804030208412.html

If you have a good base tan then these don't look terribly see through unless you are wearing a thong under them.
As usual with China, order 3x times larger. XXL is about 31".

I am mot thrilled about the letters on the waist band but it is simple enough to turn that over on the inside.
On one pair I cut 3/4 of the top side of the waist band, to leave just the lower 1/4". Then covered that with 1' black FOE elastic to give a narrow 1/2 waist band.

Yesterday wore v-backed red thong to paddle boarded with friends to the Sandbar.

For today's paddling I wore a gold thong / g-string with black trim that has two small brass tassels either side of the front triangle. Katie liked the tassels and Barbera commented her bag matched the black trim.

We paddled about 3 miles and stopped at a waterfront coffee shop for brunch. It was very busy. I did not put on shorts to go in. Just donned a sleeveless singlet style shirt that has side slits at the bottom and a shorter front but longer rear flap. Still very obvious I had no shorts and was just in a thong. Warmly greeted by the manager, staff and some of the patrons. Wish I had more shirts cut like that.

Then paddled back home pasing many houses, boats, kayaks and other paddle boarders.  Lots of friendly waves and comnents.

Recent visit to South Beach Miami and I saw a trend of girls and women wearing "skirt" type coverups which exposed the lower 1/3 of their asses. I saw some cheeky shorts too. Saw a couple of college age girls walk onto the beach with their asses peeking under their skirts, stopped and looked around. A moment later a middle aged couple walked up to them--turns out their parents! They weren't shy about their " coverups". When they stripped down the girls were wearing thongs of course---and then-- Mom was too!! Seems now that ass exposure is so casual and commonplace it's sneaking back into their "coverups" too. Not to mention a number of women marching thru the city streets in only their thong bikinis too.

I have been buying a number of short women's tank-tops with scooped bottoms from Temu. Most men's tanks are cut square across the bottom, but many of the women's are scooped, a little shorter on the sides an longer front and back. What I am look for is a curved cut along the bottom - higher on the sides and a little longer front and back. They make good coverups for a thong. The higher cut sides show I am wearing something brief. Depending on the length the longer back covers the top of the bum but not the bottom, and covers the top of the thong in front, making it a little less in your face. Most have prints on the front like a smily face or upbeat saying, which is fun. Chinese sizes run small and womens sizing even smaller - so most of the time I am ordering the largest, the XL or XXL. While it is difficult to tell the exact length when ordering the shorter ones get paired with short shorts and slightly longer ones as a top for wearing with thongs. The difficulty is figuring out which tank-tops are cut with the scooped bottom seam. Many listings are square cut and many don't show the bottom clearly. Photos often show the bottom runched up over shorts or hiked up with a hand. Very rarely the shirt flat on a table or a good back view. https://www.temu.com/-print-sleeveless-scoop-neck-tank--themed-blouse-style-shirt-suitable-for-lounging-going-out-gifts-machine-washable-spring-summer-wear-non-casual-beachwear-for-new-year-valentine-s-day-g-605632413426457.html
