I just got off a Royal Caribbean cruise out of San Juan, Puerto Rico. I reel you it was a great trip. I was going to the beaches in Curaçao, Aruba, and Tortola. Before getting on the ship I spent four days in Puerto Rico. On the beaches of Puerto Rico nearly all the women were wearing thong bikinis. I saw only one man in a speedo type suit. Otherwise only board shorts. I wore thong swimsuit everyday day. I got a few looks but no negative responses. On the ship I wore a thong on the pool deck. I did get a number of disapproving looks from men. The women were very friendly with me. I had many friendly conversation with many people. There was one gay couple that wore square cut and bikini cut swimsuits. They were great people. We shared many interests and were on a few beaches together . I walked up to the pool bar to get drinks. I rarely wore a coverup at the pool decks. Staff passed me by with a friendly hello. There were absolutely no problems wearing a thong on the ship. In Curaçao I wore a thong with many other people at the beach. Nearly all the women were wearing thong bikinis. I was the only man in a thong. Between the soft sand and crystal blue water was an amazing experience. Only caution was the need to wear water shoes in the water due to the rocks below the surface. I had two full days in Aruba. Once again nearly all the women were wearing thong bikinis while the men wore board shorts. I wore my thongs, a different one each day. Again it was a great experience. No one seemed to care what I wore and I made friends with those around me. Aruba was wonderful and I will return again. Tortola/Virgin Gorda was the best. I did a tour with some of the most high energy young men in the world. They lead this tour with the motto of having fun. They liked my style. The beaches were beautiful with the best water I’ve ever seen. I wore a silver metallic thong this day. Again I was the only man in small swimwear. Every one had a good time. I did see a few people sneak photos. It was to be expected. But most people were friendly, happy and respectful. I would do this all over again if I could. For those of you that ask about wearing a thong on a cruise ship or in the Caribbean I say go for it. You will likely be the only man wearing a thong. At the same time you will likely be making new friends.

That’s me starting Sunday on a week long cruise with my wife, brother, and sister-in-law. I’m guessing I’ll be the only guy on the cruise wearing thongs, but I am curious to see how many women this time of year and going out of the Miami port will be wearing them too.

Probably one of the more disappointing things on the ship was the number of women wearing thong bikinis. Coming out of Puerto Rico and having so many passengers from Puerto Rico I was expecting more women wearing thong bikinis on the ship. The beaches were full of thong bikinis. On the ship there was only a few women wearing thong bikinis. CKWonderer, have a great adventure. Please give us a full report when you return. Enjoy every moment.

Mid last month, my wife and I went on a seven day cruise out of Miami with my brother and sister-in-law. We had wonderful weather during the spring break time. We went to the Dominican Republic, St. Thomas, and Saint Kitts. We also had three days of cruising time along the way. While I have worn my thongs on other cruises this time around, I actually saw a very minimal amount of thongs on women and absolutely no kind of minimal swimwear on men, other than myself. Also, there was very little reaction, almost none, of any kind to me being in a thong while walking around the sun deck, going to the bars, or hitting the plunge pool and hot tube, or while we were on our excursions to the beaches or other destinations. Our ship wasn’t one of the big mega ones with all of the kid, friendly slides, and adventurous stuff on board so there weren’t that many kids running around as you might see on other ships especially at spring break time (Celebrity Cruises). On a couple of the cruising days, we set up with a view of the ocean along the walking and jogging track, but also the only way to get to the backside of the top sun deck for the view of the back of the boat, one of the bars, and the garden patio outdoor area. There were literally hundreds of people each hour walking by us all day. For my cover-up, I wore my standard short, shorts that tends to ride up the back and always wore my thongs. I didn’t even think twice about putting on anything larger. I got out early one morning and took some selfie shots of me on the back side of the boat with the early morning sun clouds. I’ve added one of my pics to my album for 2026. My sister-in-law has a couple extra pics, but I haven’t gotten them yet. So next time you’re on a cruise and wondering about wearing a thong, it’s really a no-brainer!
