Date Posted:07/22/2003 01:37:01Copy HTML Having recently found this - excellent - board, I thought it would be useful to report where I have sunbathed or swam in minimal attire. I have included Cyprus, which though in the eastern Mediterranean is about to become a member of the European Union.I would start by saying I ALWAYS wear minimal beach gear, how minimal depending on the circumstances. With friends who may be embarrassed etc I wear a string bikini with 3/4 back. By a hotel pool I wear a small suit with a narrow back panel. Otherwise it is a T back thong or g -string, the briefer the better! I would confirm I have never had any problem at all with negative reaction etc.Cyprus, Pathos & Pissouri, both in the Greek sector on the south coast. The latter resort, midway between Pathos & Limassol is very relaxed. I have visited there over several years, and it is a great place to strip down. Nudists can be found at each end of the beach & no one bothers. I have thonged at various Pathos hotel pools.GSJ

I don't know the Larnaca end of the island but everywhere in Cyprus is very relaxed. If it were me I wouldn't pack anything but the thong! John |

Re:Cyprus Date Posted:08/18/2003 12:21:54Copy HTML Bob Let them assume that is what you normally wear to the beach. That's my philosophy & I find it is then no big deal. let us know how you get on.

Re:Cyprus Date Posted:10/12/2003 03:41:16Copy HTML Well i`m back from Cyprus. I went to Waterworld near Ayia Napa and wore my 1/2 back, there where no other men dressed as brief as me, though there where quite a few women in thongs. I managed to thong on the beach at Larnaca twice, both on a sun lounger and walking along the sand. It was very busy and it was great. I even got photographed with a video camera by a couple on the beach. I`ve got some great tan lines. Only about three other men in thongs though. Bob |

Re:Cyprus Date Posted:10/13/2003 11:25:39Copy HTML Well done Bob! Glad you enjoyed it. Will you be tempted to try a g string next time? That's what I wear at Pissouri - to the west of Limassol. Nowadays I would find a suit for beach wear with any back coverage unacceptable. Having said that I graduated over several visits to Cyprus from the sort of suit you decribe to the micro g string .

Re:Cyprus Date Posted:10/16/2003 05:32:56Copy HTML I`m not sure about the g string. Maybe at a more secluded beach. I have a very minimal cut thong which is near to a g string, perhaps I will try that. Bob |

Re:Cyprus Date Posted:06/06/2004 06:32:09Copy HTML Excellent to hear that you enjoyed thonging on your holiday. I have only heard positive things about Cyprus in regards to thonging.
One question. It's great that you could freely walk about in just your thong. But how many others did you see thonging? Were they few and far between or did the beaches have lots of thongers? |

Re:Cyprus Date Posted:06/07/2004 04:51:26Copy HTML Ryan - Far & few between. I was the only male - but this did not put me off. It is the sort of relaxed place where you just get on with it. My view is : why should I wear more than I want (which is not a lot) just to satisfy some presumed view of others. I belive other Cyprus locations are much more "thong aware" but I prefer quiter places! |

Re:Cyprus Date Posted:12/19/2005 02:44:14Copy HTML Hi gsj
the beaches were both to east and west of Limmasol. I saw some large signs saying that "Nudism" (their word) was prohibited but these were always on beaches were there was a taverna. However, i got the feeling that thongs were not seen as nudism and were quite accepatable. We also found some coves nearby where we could be nude but I would confidently say that if you're going to Cyprus then there is no need to pack any other swimwear other than thongs or g's. Hope this helps |

Re:Cyprus Date Posted:04/06/2007 07:49:10Copy HTML I spent the entire time on the beach wearing nothing more than a minimal T back G-string - wonderful! The most I wore was a similar suit with a 4" back when using the hotel pool. Without doubt I was the briefest attired - and by quite a margin, apart from a few secretive nudists hidden at either end of the beach. I took my daily walk along the beach - only wearing the T back - and had no problems whatsoever. In fact the only comment came from the water sports attendant who suggested that if I was under dressed he was over dressed. I have got to the stage in life where I wear what I want on the beach, which is not very much and really do not bother about what others may think. |

Re:Cyprus Date Posted:08/04/2009 06:46:38Copy HTML I,m not familiar with the northern part of Cyprus, but I am sure thonging would be fine on any beach there. Southern Cyprus (Larnaca region) was very easy going and thong friendly.

Re:Cyprus Date Posted:07/10/2011 06:33:49Copy HTML Just returned from Cyprus. Went north to Big Sand and spent the whole day in Hom thong with no negative comments whatsoever.
However, I was the only thonger there male or female despite there being a sign warning that you may encounter nude bathers A really good day with some really good tanlines to show for it, I've put photos in my profile images Cyprus to be recommended! |

Re:Cyprus Date Posted:02/27/2016 10:08:46Copy HTML I'll be in Cyprus this March and I expect it will be just as open minded as everywhere else in Europe to thongs :-) I'm there from 14th March on my own (male) and it's always nice to have company whether male or female. |

Re:Cyprus Date Posted:11/06/2019 01:16:54Copy HTML Trip report. I was in Cyprus in September, 2019. The weather was still warm. By mid-September, almost all of the rowdy party kids and families with school kids were gone. I was in Ayia Napa and went to the beach every day. The water was clean and clear. Almost all beaches are public land so you do not have to stay at the hotel to use any beach However you do have to pay to rent sunbeds and umbrellas. The charge was 2.50 Euros for each.
I had on a thongs for most days. No problem at all at the hotel or beaches. Only a few (very few) females in thongs, and only one male (me) in a thong. Speedo were common for men, but not the majority. For women, thong were not common, but their bikinis were often 1/2 or 1/4 backs. Note that during the weekends, the beaches are packed with locals and there were many large family groups that seemed to have set up camp in any shade area behind the beaches. A few of these locals did react and did make some negative comments. These comments were not insulting, rather they were more joking or laughter. The tourists at the hotel did not even seem to notice my thonging. Most of the tourists were British, Russian, Northern European, or Eastern European.
I did cross over to the North Cyprus to visit The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The beaches were wider and less crowded than the south. The water was also clean and clear. The south is Greek and the north is Turkish and you will see differences in culture, food, and language. Note that Cyprus a separate country and not part go Greece and north Cyprus is also a separate country and not part of Turkey. Cyprus uses the Euro and North Cyprus uses the Turkish Lira. The North side is cheaper. The hotel I was at was full of tourists from Turkey. In fact most of the tourists were from Turkey. You can only fly in to North Cyprus from Turkey because the EU an the rest of the world does not recognize North Cyprus as a legal country. You can cross by land from the South to North and back, however. I did not thong in the North (perhaps I could have) because of the large number of Turkish tourists, who seem to be in larger family groups. Speedos, OK. If you rent a car (I did not) you could find out of town or out of hotel beaches where you could thong. There are private beaches in the North, and therefore subbeds and umbrellas are free on the beach at your hotel.
