Re:Doing pool laps in a thong Date Posted:12/29/2009 11:04:26Copy HTML Our local "Y" in Ohio recently upgraded the locker rooms which were originally built for male swimmers only. They had one for the indoor pool and one for the outdoor pool and had built some very temporary walls to give access to the outdoor locker room to the inside pool and built a new door through the wall to give access from the indoor locker room to the outside. This way, the old inside locker room was used for women and the outdoor locker room was used by the men. Swimsuits of course were required after the pool went co-ed.
Over the years the only real change made to the locker rooms was the installation of another temporary wall over the urinals in the indoor locker room so the women didn't have to look at them. Many women found them objectionable. For the better part of a month one summer, both locker rooms were closed and turned over to a construction crew, who made many changes to them and the adjacent office area. Old timers talked about the old days at the "Y" when the new locker rooms were finally opened for use. They recall the nude swimming Swflaguy mentioned in the last post and the way the shower area was just a room with shower heads poping out of the wall every yard or so. The locker room itself was opened with clear views from one side to the other and no place for privacy. Now showers are individual with lockable privacy doors. The locker room has more lockable private change rooms where cloths can be put on out of sight of everyone else. The occational "old man" or "Old woman" still strips down and changes from their swimsuits to their street cloths in the open, but not a single youth. Today's youth classify these oldtimers as "Queer", "old timers", or perverts. Mothers and especially fathers with small children try to hide them from these "old timers" in an attempt to protect their children from seeing a naked person and maybe even more importantly to keep the "old timers" from seeing the children. Several "old timers" also tell stories about the bleachers along the side of the indoor pool and how they permitted moms (and other related family members) to watch the nude boys and young men swimming. This included sisters and sometime female friends or distant relatives who happened to be there and were waiting for the swimmers to finish before leaving to do something else. There was really no policing of who was permitted to enter, and it was common practice for 7th and 8th grade girls to go there occationally to check out the bodies of their classmates. Now the bleachers are closed to all but a pre-approved list of adults who have proper ID's and who are checked in, photographed each time they enter, have to sign a form each time they enter, and who have ID information copied each time they enter. Getting into a prison to visit an inmate is easier, but we do have to protect our children from the preditors don't we? Maybe things were better in the old days. Traci |

Re:Doing pool laps in a thong Date Posted:12/30/2009 12:20:14Copy HTML I live in Belgium and have had a mostly good experience with swimming in a thong or near-thong at a local pool. I swim twice a week to keep fit and do 1km (1100 yards) non-stop each time. I started six years ago and at first wore a fairly skimpy brief (Speedo) style. I went at various times of the day to figure out when it would be quietest and with no school kids having lessons. This proved to be from 13:10 to 13:40.
I then changed to a black Hom Ussac thong but took great care not to flaunt myself. When showering before and after the swim I kept my back to the wall or went for the corner position. When walking around anywhere, including to and from the edge of the pool, I kept a towel around me. When entering and leaving the water, I avoided turning my rear towards the pool. When doing my laps, I made sure no-one was ever swimming close behind me, but would turn onto my back if someone did come close. This worked fine for more than three years, until finally an attendant approached me and said that a young man (not a woman!) had complained about my thong. They did not stop me, but clearly I needed to be more careful. Unfortunately, a few weeks later, I did not notice that this same guy was in the pool again and that he was swimming near me. He complained again and this time the pool said I should wear something less revealing. I was annoyed, but politely complied, and went back to wearing small briefs for almost a year. I then discovered Skinz, who make a great range of well-made, stylish swimwear, from the modest to the ludicrous. As much as I like very skimpy swimwear, I am not into "in-your-face" styles, which I think many people would find offensive, especially in a public pool setting. By mail order, I bought their Super Low Rio in black, which has a low front, string sides and a half-coverage back; the back tends to pull in (get smaller) as one swims. This has been my standard garb for most of my swimming for the last couple of years, although I sometimes also wear another style with a triangle back that has about one third coverage. More recently, I had Skinz make me a special, which has the Super Low Rio front and the Sunseeker Rio back; this has only 25% rear coverage, which becomes pretty much thong-like after a few lengths. So far so good, and I maintain all my previous precautions to avoid casuing complant. My advice therefore is to keep a low profile, show that you are trying to be careful, and don't even try to wear extreme styles. If you do, you will surely cause offence, be stopped and spoil the chances for the the rest of us. To me, this means wearing nothing smaller than a thong (1" crotch strap) and not a string, and with a small brief-like front (no tiny pouches). |

Re:Doing pool laps in a thong Date Posted:01/04/2010 03:26:33Copy HTML At my health club when I swim laps in a thong I try not to hide he fact I'm wearing a thong.
Let me state my dedication to the speedo solid thong swimsuit I enjoy having others in the pool its drives me to swim better and faster I have swam in the pool whens there is a quite a few people swimming laps. I often swim next to them and even share lanes in some casses. Just makes me think people are not so judgemenal as we might precive on the thong board. Its just takes one person to say something and it can magnify the situation as mentioned in the last post. |

Re:Doing pool laps in a thong Date Posted:02/03/2010 07:28:56Copy HTML Just got back from my swim at 24 hour fitness. Today was the first time I saw another guy swimming laps in a thong beside myself. I noticed he was trying to hide that he was wearing a thong by only swimming when everyone else was and also by standing against the wall. Maybe by seeing me swim laps without stopping, he will build more self confidence. I'm just glad that someone else is swimming in a thong besides myself.

Re:Doing pool laps in a thong Date Posted:02/03/2010 08:36:25Copy HTML I've been following the discussion with envy. My local fitness place, Club One's clientele is somewhat less inclined towards thong wearing. This could be due to many complimentary reasons; changes in management and rules, complaints from clientele, and recent "women only" fitness clubs like "Curves" opening. I say this because only a few years ago, a few of the ladies, maybe 6 different ones, would wear thongs when swimming laps and laying out by the pool. One memorable woman, oviously not from around this area, wore a Wicked Weasel mico-mini around..this lasted only a few times. Nowadays, I'll wear a speedo sometimes, but I've always wanted to try wearing a thong. I've noticed many of the regular guys I see swimming laps when ever I'm swimming laps are now wearing those longer lycra swim suits that cover the thighs and quads.

Re:Doing pool laps in a thong Date Posted:02/13/2010 12:00:49Copy HTML Just called three different public swimming pools in Copenhagen to ask wether it would be ok to swim in a thong suit. They all said it would be fine, as long as the suit is clean and not exactly "borat" style. Two of the persons I spoke to were women and completely cool, while the third person was a guy and he let out a short laughter when I asked. But I remained cool and he then told me it would be ok to wear a thong. Now I just have to find the courage to go through with it...

Re:Doing pool laps in a thong Date Posted:02/16/2010 09:15:36Copy HTML DID IT! Went to the pool by 9am hoping to find it quiet and half-empty. I was lucky. Got my thong on in the shower and pulled a towel around me. Just to make sure that I could head back to the showers if the pool was too crowded. But it wasn't. Only one person in the lane furthest from the lifeguard and some more in the other lanes. Placed the towel on the bench and jumped in. How cool it was! Feeling the water on my bare bottom. Swam for 20 minutes without any comments at all. Got up, got my towel, showered and put my white N2N thong on in the locker room. Even did a short stroll to the mirror only wearing the N2N. Now home feeling great, relaxed and very self-confident. I don't think however, that I will swim in the thong every time - just when the pool is quiet. But you should try it...

Re:Doing pool laps in a thong Date Posted:02/16/2010 02:15:23Copy HTML Usually, I do my laps in a thight speedo. But the elastic is getting a bit loose, so it's kind of dangerous to expose too much. To counter, I always put a thong underneath.. Sometimes when I swim fast, the speedo goes down a bit and the thong is showing and I gave up pulling up the speedo again and again.
However yesterday the bath was quite frequented, but even the youngest girls didn't mind, no comments at all. Or perhaps they pretend. Once I made my 25laps I went out straight to the showers. I showered in my thong a while the some men who were passing made big eyes and thats all. I'm not ready at all to do the laps only in a thong but the time will come :-) |

Re:Doing pool laps in a thong Date Posted:05/15/2010 12:10:08Copy HTML I swim a few days a week, in either a G-string or my Rio back from Skinz. I swim about 3000 yrds on average. I will say that with sprints, the skinny side straps are all over the place. So I am actually getting some made custom from Skinz with thin drawstrings.
At my gym I swim in my Rio, unless it is not crowded then I swim in my G-string. At the outdoor pools I always wear my g-string so I don't mess up my tan lines. My gym is Ballys. They don't have a policy that bans thongs. I am trying to keep them to that. A few of the people let me go with my g-string without a problem. Only one manager had a problem with it. |

Re:Doing pool laps in a thong Date Posted:05/15/2010 04:29:00Copy HTML I just started swimming regularly in my Speedo Thong. New pool, new club, new rules.
Wow. It really feels faster - not that a Solar was by any means constraining. By comparison though, I will never go back unless the pool rules change. That said, a thong really is the same as a bikini - it is just missing the back panel. I love it. Why did they stop making it and make the pantaloons instead? My backup suit is a JS Rio and a JS Thong. The former needs replacing, but it is still the best alternative when the rules moderate. The JS Thong is my favorite for the beach and will be spared the throws of chlorine. |

Re:Doing pool laps in a thong Date Posted:05/15/2010 04:13:55Copy HTML Great to hear that there others of us on this board that are swimming laps in a thong at their gym. I have been swimming at my gym for about 20 years in a rio back that would usually ride into a thong half way through my workout. Five years ago I just decided to wear a thong for lap swimming. I swim 3 times a week without any problems.

Re:Doing pool laps in a thong Date Posted:05/21/2010 07:16:09Copy HTML I am interested in wearing my swimsuit thong for lap swimming at the local YMCA I know that some allow swium suit thongs and others do not. Does anyone know where are the YMCA's that allow swim suit thongs for lap swimming? Or do other clubs allow swim suit thongs?
I used to swim nude in highschool so I do not understand all the stink about swim suit thongs for lap swimming. Can anyone explain? Where can I swim in my new thong? |

Re:Doing pool laps in a thong Date Posted:05/21/2010 01:38:40Copy HTML What in the world does the fact that you swam nude in high school have anything at all to do with swimming in a thong at a YMCA? How in any possible way can what you did, say, 50 years ago, have anything to do with what happens in your neighborhood gym today? I swear sometimes I think people are purposely dense when it comes to thong wearing.
If you want to swim in your thong why don't you approach the management of whatever gym you go to and find out from them. I think that if you're reasonable about it you won't have an issue. If you're a freak that just wants a reason to be as nearly nude as possible in public for the thrill of it then you will probably fail... |

Re:Doing pool laps in a thong Date Posted:06/23/2010 03:23:08Copy HTML Just started a new season of doing laps at my town's neighborhood outdoor pool during late afternoon adult's swim time. Wearing black, red and sapphire Speedo thongs. Apparently some mothers complained to the lifeguards, even though they were cool with it, so I'm switching to briefs, squarecuts and jammers. Great for cooling off and getting some good training in.

Re:Doing pool laps in a thong Date Posted:06/27/2010 04:01:52Copy HTML So I went back to 24 Hour Fitness this morning and I was wearing my white pinstriped Joe Snyder bulge thong, it's a little sheer when wet but not too much.
I asked this lady if my bathing suit was bothering her, and she reassured me it wasn't. She went on to say, "It looks nice, and when I saw you before, I was like it looks good." So it's all good. :-) |

Re:Doing pool laps in a thong Date Posted:06/30/2010 02:54:35Copy HTML The 24 Hour Fitness that I've been going to, the club manager told me my bathing suit was inappropriate and that I needed to change into another bathing suit. And I asked him for his corporate manager's number. It doesn't say anywhere in their rules that a thong is not acceptable swimwear. And he also tried to debate with me as to how my thong wasn't a swimsuit and it's from Joe Snyder. So I called the 1-800 number and the regional manager or whatever said that they'd talk and get back to me. Was I right to do this?

Re:Doing pool laps in a thong Date Posted:06/30/2010 03:23:04Copy HTML I see no foul in what you did. All you were doing was getting clarification from someone with more authority in the matter. I'm sure he wouldn't have said a thing if a woman had been wearing a suit of a similar nature. Its amazing how society in the US has become one where women are encouraged to show as much of their body as possible, while men are expected to cover up. Enough is enough.

Re:Doing pool laps in a thong Date Posted:06/30/2010 04:56:14Copy HTML After reading this thread a few weeks ago, I thought it was exhilarating and had to give it a try. I recently bought micro thong from Dore Swimwear, and despite it being the most modest thong available from them, I was still nervous about wearing it. I had tried it on a few days prior, but had not even dared to go out in public in it. Well I threw my dork shorts and thong into my bag today when I heading out for the gym, but didn't believe I could actually wear it. After my workout , I slipped into my thong, and put my dork shorts over it, and found the lap pool to be deserted and a woman cleaning the pool. I waited for her to finish, then I slipped off my shorts and swam some laps. It was the most exhilarating sensation ever! The swimsuit fit like a second skin, and it felt like I was naked. I may have to get a more modest suit though, for when there are more people around!

Re:Doing pool laps in a thong Date Posted:06/30/2010 06:21:26Copy HTML One in San Diego, on Imperial. I even looked up the rules for dress code, and it doesn't state anywhere about thongs specifically. Now if it did, that'd be one thing, but since it didn't, then it should be fair game that you can wear thongs, right?

Re:Doing pool laps in a thong Date Posted:07/01/2010 01:23:30Copy HTML It may not specifically say thongs are not allowed, but most likely it says something to the effect of "proper swimwear" needed when using the pool. And they, not you, get to decide what is proper swimwear since its their pool.

Re:Doing pool laps in a thong Date Posted:07/01/2010 04:03:49Copy HTML I have no problems with anyone swimming in thongs. Re:Doing pool laps in a thong Date Posted:07/01/2010 05:09:33Copy HTML I have to say that doing laps in a thong is the best for the swimmer. They provide for minimal drag, are certainly comfortable, and the after swim care of them for the daily swimmer is a breeze--they dry quickly, or are easy to store in a plastic bag in the gym bag, or to hang to dry in one's locker. For the pool owner, thongs leave no lint in their filters. Hopefully, the public at large will come to realize that they are the 3rd most functional swim wear there is (#2: g-sting; #1: nude). Crazy and frustrating that it isn't so now. Read James Michener's book HAWAII where the clerics come to the Islands and forbid the locals from surfing nude. Compare that to the movie THE GODS MUST BE CRAZY where the star of the show wears a g-string throughout. We have a ways to go to educate the public.

Re:Doing pool laps in a thong Date Posted:07/01/2010 11:21:19Copy HTML It's not even that it was a sheer thong, that wasn't the the focal point of all this, it's the simple fact that it was a thong. So the thong could have made of iron and it still would have got me in trouble. Sheer or not, he was coming after me.

Re:Doing pool laps in a thong Date Posted:07/16/2010 12:31:27Copy HTML At my town's neighborhood pool I didn't ask, just went ahead and wore my Speedo thongs doing laps during late afternoon adult time. At 5:30 the whistle would blow and the kids had to leave the pool. They'd hang around with their parents 'til 6:00, when it was their turn again. I got stares, but no comments or hassles, and all went fine for the 3-4 times a week I went from the season start.
Finally, last Sunday, the head lifeguard and his boss pulled me aside to inform me some had complained about the brevity of my suits, moms who didn't want their kids seeing this sort of thing. They acknowledged my suit was perfectly legitimate, which reassured me greatly, and they didn't care themselves. I reminded them it bore the Speedo logo, and that I wore them all the time at the beach (my well-tanned buns made that obvious). It became clear there were no rules against it -- they'd checked with parks and recreation -- and they thought such suits were fine at Misquamicut, but perhaps not so appropriate at this family venue. Bottom line: it was up to me to decide whether to continue wearing thongs or whether to wear something with a more coverage. I assured them I didn't want to offend anyone, and would wear other suits. Which I did, yesterday, an old red Speedo Solar. I ask you, what's more obscene, the bare buns of a Speedo thong, or the well-defined wandering genitals in a speedo whose fabric is old and tired? That embarrassed me, the bare buns did not. Of course I'll pitch the old red Solar and wear other briefs I have, or my Speedo squarecut or black Speedo jammers, as my mood dictates. Best for community relations, these are my neighbors, I live here. BTW, I've heard that Misquamicut, a state park beach in Westerly, RI, doesn't allow thongs. East Beach is next door, in Charlestown, RI, where just about anything goes, and I'm usually in a g-string or less. I realize wearing my Speedo thongs in this hometown, family setting was pushing the envelope. I enjoyed displaying my self-confidence and a casual non-chalance while promoting the notion that thongers were regular folks just like them. Guess I crossed the line, got too much in their faces. I'm satisfied to back off and continue enjoying the facility for my summertime laps. It'll be interesting to see if people treat me any differently from now on, now that I'm dressed more normally. Speedos of any sort are rare, but at least my buns won't be bare. |

I haven't worn my g-string there, until the other day when I was had my workout around noon and felt a little sexy so I don my g-string and went to the pool. no one there but I didn't do laps, it's broad daylight so just in case the workers there, or camera or the people in the office building on top are looking at me. :P nevertheless it feels comfortable going around a g-string. |

Re:Doing pool laps in a thong Date Posted:08/21/2010 10:22:13Copy HTML After spending most of the Summer alternating between thongs and a bikini, the thong feels better in the pool. I prefer the Speedo to others for lap swimming. Joe Snyders are great all round thongs - beach, pool, etc, but - oddly - it did not feel that they sat the same way. At any rate, the Speedo has to have a light schedule in the pool - there are not any more being made. No one has said anything to me or made a remark so my guess is that people don't care.

Got to the gym and it was not open because the person working that moring forgot to open it at 7 on sundays so was stuck talking to the only other swimmer and person waiting at the door. We talked about how no one showers between spa pool steam and how many people dont work out what kinda of swim routine. Then she mentioned how she liked my speedo thong and how she will wear a two piece bikini but thong is to much for her but did not mind seeing me at all if your in really good shape its no big deal. We did get let in to the gym after a 20 min wait then swam in my speedo thong her in a tight one piece with a half wedgie. Good times.

Re:Doing pool laps in a thong Date Posted:02/11/2011 04:10:09Copy HTML An interesting experience the other day. I usually go to the pool early. I have about an hour a day to exercise during the winter. Normally, I rotate my swim gear out to avoid destroying a given suit any earlier than necessary. I was swimming my laps as normal in my Speedo Thong. It's a different experience than the JS Capri and Speedo Solar. There is a core of people who I know and see daily. They prefer those Jammer style suite, me the thong or bikini (which is now becoming rarer among swimmers) . Two ladies show up and I caught them staring at me doing my laps. The pool has five lanes, three were un occupied. I guess they were offended because they took lane one and shared it - avoidng the open lane next to me. As if I would suddenly take any interest in them. Odd.

Re:Doing pool laps in a thong Date Posted:02/11/2011 04:48:08Copy HTML I am a member at the YMCA and use their pool almost daily. I also enroll in some of their aquatics classes like water aerobics. I have always worn a minimal bikini there and have not tried to thong even though I would love to. I am the only one - male or female - that wore a bikini for the longest time. Eventually, several of the women would wear a bikini on occassion. I've been a member a this Y for years and everyone knows me. I guess I could just ask if a thong would be acceptable. I really don't want to thong and be told I've offended someone and get kicked out. Guess I'm stuck with a bikini there.

Re:Doing pool laps in a thong Date Posted:02/11/2011 02:15:36Copy HTML I to am a member of our local Y. I swim and do water aerobics with my wife. Thongs are prohibited at our Y but Speedo style suits are OK. Several of the real men swimmers wear them. I generally wear my Speedo Solar 1 and there has never been any hassels or questions. Like you I generally am the only guy that does, (unless one of the "swimmers" are there) however I do see several of the gals in bikinis. I think there no thong rule is there way of "protecting the kids", I also suspect that there have been some that have pushed the envelope in the past, so that is where they draw the line.

Re:Doing pool laps in a thong Date Posted:02/11/2011 02:40:27Copy HTML We recently re-joined the local Y. They closed two inner city branches and built a huge new facility, which opened about the time we stopped going (first born child.) The pool rules merely state, "appropriate swimwear" and only explicitly prohibits things like underwear, cut-off jeans, etc... I highly doubt they would tolerate thonging though. I called a couple of the local Y's about 6-7 years ago, and they had said "no". I believe there would be even less of a chance at the new Y, with windows looking over the entire aquatic center. When I go upstairs for my usual workout, the first thing you see is the warm water pools, but I can easily glance to the right and see down into the lap pool.
That said, we have been going there on Saturday mornings for basketball classes for our son and swim lessons for our daughter. The last couple weeks, when my son and I go through the "boy's locker room" to join the girls (separate from the men's 18+ yo room), we have encountered young men from some kind of swim team. I don't pay too much attention, but did take notice as I don't think any of them were wearing jammers. They were all wearing small squarecuts (smaller than my Adidas that I usually wear) and at least a couple were wearing ultra tiny bikinis... smaller than my Speedo 1" Solar. |

Re:Doing pool laps in a thong Date Posted:02/11/2011 09:29:38Copy HTML My health club, an adult, downtown facility catering to corporate types, also posts the "appropriate swimwear" sign. One day I asked the director, who I've known during several years' membership and who's frequently seen me in my underwear thongs, whether swim thongs would be okay. It appeared to be a first time inquiry as he hesitated for a moment, but replied saying, "No, they wouldn't be appropriate". End of conversation.
So I guess regular mainstream facilities are all pretty much the same in frowning on thongs in the pool. My bikinis are still the briefest, though, and no one ever comments. Just wish the glutes could be given their due as an attractive muscle mass, and if mine were uncovered, maybe some ladies would follow suit. Ah, uptight Americans, we better hide our bodies. |

Hey SlidingG, I appreciate your opinions because of your experience, your healthy lifestyle and relaxed open masculine attitude, and in this comment of yours you hit the nerve on why wearing a thong shouldn't be the big issue that for some people is; I am with you and can't understand either why are the glutes which have one of the strongest and most attractive muscles on both male and female anatomies, so penalised by being hidden under fabric especially when swimming and sunbaking. If men do like to see women with tight bums in tight jeans, and women like to see men who have muscular defined glutes under their jeans or pants, why is there sometimes so much controversy about showing the same body part uncovered under the sun on a beach or a pool..... It's a pity from this point of view. JH |

Re:Doing pool laps in a thong Date Posted:02/12/2011 11:25:30Copy HTML I do not like the signs, that say that appropriate swimwear must be worn. What does that mean. I realize in a Y setting as you describe, I no what that is inferring, but at a outside condo pool in warm locations, or signs on public beaches, unless you can find a manager or beach attendant, I believe that organization, should interpret the signs.

I agree with you to some degree, but most folks consider it taboo in a way of sexual amusement for others. You can argue that's false statement i'm making but it is true for most non thong wearers. I swim in a bikini 1" side and 3/4 back indoors at my gym pool. Would i prefer wearing a thong at my indoor pool, not really. I find that a thong would bring to much amusement and lot more looks at me then i already get when wearing my bikini at the pool Swimming indoors i will not get any tan lines from wearing a bikini then a thong but would prefer a thong if i were outside for sure. Many woman who turn there heads to stare at me wearing a red bikini smiling with a little laughter and comments to there friends when i walk out on the pool deck. I for one don't fret because i know i attract attention to myself looking the way i do be it in a bikini or dork shorts. So when folks look at me be it my smooth toned shaven body or dark complection they will look regardless of what swimwear i put on. With many woman covering there bodies with towels and large swimwear fabric i'm the only one wearing minimal swimwear at the pool to go any less covered would look to them as being obscene or a total show off. When i walk out onto the pool deck wearing my bikini with confidence whatever you may think of me i'm happy they way i look and not afraid to show it off. Today at the pool two woman were in conversation in the pool as i came out from dry sauna walking towards the changing room she said to her friend " i was pretty confident wearing woman like bikini briefs showing off my bulge", giggling ensued. What i notice from most woman that i see who make comments about me when i use the deck pool shower to rinse off they usually stare at me when my back is turned towards them. When i face towards them they are less likely or shy to look at me or laugh. I noticed today at the pool when i showered on the deck pool i had a wedgie in my brand new red tight bikini bottoms the contours of my glutes were evident. So to these ladies they were definitely like to watch even if they were embarrassed to be seen caught looking. While other guys few as they are who wear similar swimwear as i do run to the changing room in fear trying to cover up with there towel as if they were nude or feeling they just robbed a bank. |
