Date Posted:06/15/2026 05:22:10Copy HTML The Atlantic coast, from Bordeaux to Biarritz, is famous for its waves. Surfers come from all over Europe. But it’s also a great place to wear a thong because it’s very tolerant. I just spent the weekend there with my wife and my two youngest children. What I noticed : - A lot of girls in thongs. About half of those between the ages of 15 and 30 - a lot of G-string and string-thong - Girls in thongs wear their thongs on the beach, at the parking lot, etc. They don't put on shorts again to return to their car or their accommodation. - NO OPT this year (One piece thong) - a few topless girls. - Girls who are topless don't put their tops back on to go swimming, etc. - There are a lot of Spaniards here at the start of the season. Half of the people, even though we're in France - several young guys (in their 20s) wore swim briefs. About 10%. It is surprising because a few years ago, there was only boardshort. Even some lifeguards wore a red swim brief. Swim briefs are back on the beach. It seems that the new generation rediscover the freedom of the swim brief I wore my thong as usual. No issue. May be some double looks. I noticed only 2 young girls (12/14) who looked at me in surprise (it last only 10 seconds) and 2 girls in their 20s who sneered behind my back whereas one was in thong too. Otherwise, it's easy to put on a thong. But as a man, I was the only one wearing a thong. So the male-to-female ratio is 1 to 1000. LOL. I even played with my son on the sand, wearing my swim thong (I did not stay on my towel) Atlantic coast is the place to thong in France. |

Re:FRANCE : atlantic coast from Bordeaux to Biarritz Date Posted:06/16/2026 07:49:52Copy HTML Great update @stringeur. I’ve seen more swim briefs on younger guys these past few years on many European beaches. Think guys are finding they are more comfortable and practical. Hope the trend continues. |

Re:FRANCE : atlantic coast from Bordeaux to Biarritz Date Posted:06/20/2026 08:17:51Copy HTML I went to Biarritz this past October. I wore a boy string g-string. Very very small bulge pouch. I had a lot of ppl stop and sit right in front of where my wife and I were sunning and swimming. Even in France I got a lot of looks for wearing a g string as a male. My wife wore her thong but didn’t feel comfortable going topless. I wore my gstring for 3 days on the beach and wore it on my balcony and no one said anything. Got lots of looks and smiles. I wonder if they knew I am American? |

Re:FRANCE : atlantic coast from Bordeaux to Biarritz Date Posted:06/22/2026 03:24:30Copy HTML I can definitely recommend this part of the French Atlantic coast for a visit. I have been visiting this coast both to the north of Arcachon and to the south for about 15-20 years and enjoyed many holidays here.
The beaches are great and the options to camp with a tent on a budget, rent fixed tents, rent Chalet style mobile homes, or stay in luxury b&b’s or hotels are there for the taking.
The beaches are sandy and stretch for miles and miles with beaches backed by dunes and national forest. There are often long stretches of empty beaches, even in high season, as the access roads are set widely apart. You don’t have to walk far from any main beach to find people tanning, walking or swimming naked.
There are at least three official nude beaches and naturist campsites (La Jenny, CHM Montalivet and Euronat) and other naturist beaches on the North coast between Cap Ferret in the South and Soulac Sur Mer in the north. Similarly in the south. QThere is also a dedicated National cycle route all the way from the north of France down to the Spanish border taking in this section of coastline if you are adventurous and want to do some cycle touring.
The highest sand dune in Europe, Dune du Pyla, is situated just south of Arcachon.
It’s worth looking at the sattelite view on google maps to see just how long this section of sandy beach backed by dunes really is. And if you do look, try to find the concrete remains of the fortifications that the Germans set up along this cost in the early 1940’s. There are many spread along the beach at 2km to 5km intervals.
I’m headed to the coast there next week to enjoy 3 weeks in the sun, probably most of it naked, at one of the three naturist sites there. I’ll have to put on a suit to cross a textile beach or two so will most likely carry a thong or gstring to do that.
If anyone is going to be there between 1-22 July and wants to meet up, or just wants more info, feel free to drop me a PM.
It’s definitely a great place to wear a thong (or go naked). |
